Kudos to Colombo Telegraph – of course I can’t think of a one stop shop to get the full low down on the up coming presidential elections than the Colombo Telegraph. I was just today looking at the impressive array of scholarly articles and the writers, thinking Colombo Telegraph has created a forum that’s so unlike any other – It’s true freedom of speech in action because the editors have without exception given a voice to every one who has a well reasoned opinion or analysis that’s so wide ranging yet independent, giving the writers full freedom to express their thoughts – It’s no mean feat – I would say CT has in such a short time achieved what no other web portal has – well done! It’s a shame that the people in the island of SriLanka – the would be voters don’t have access to it!!!

When Dingle Foot and two of his sons won at the same election his friend’s telegram read:

“Dear Foot congratulations on your magnificent feet”

When I saw your inadvertence in your “no mean feet”, I was reminded of it.

Do you have any scholarly publications??

It is the evidence that you are a productive scholar, an original thinker, an active member of your scholarly community, and finally a person who can produce the kind of work necessary for your eventual tenure.

Well deserved. Editor Uvindu Kurukulasuriya works round the clock. His hard work has paid off. We should all be grateful to him for his dogged determination despite all odds (as we continue to see in his fighting against the government’s web-censorship).

    Hi Uvindu,

Congrats to CT Team led by Uvindu. By the way, some public intellectuals and progressive artistes back home, such as Pro.Sarath Wijesooriya, Gamini Viyangoda,Dharmasiri Bandaranayake and Vimukthi Jayasundara etc, have got together and formed an organization known as the “Citizens’ Power”, and these days, they are doing very good public events to promote My3’s candidacy. In fact, this week, I attended a well-attended event of theirs which was held by them at the National Library Services & Documentation Center auditorium. Please promote it through CT.

One more well-deserved global accolade. You richly deserve it, Colombo Telegraph. Good for you that you operate far away in foreign climes – safe from the bloody hands of those State-sponsored assassins who come in those ubiquitous White Vans, Defender Range Rovers from a politicised army – all out to destroy those who legitimately disagree with the hated Rajapakse familial rule.

Congratulations Colombo Telegraph. You have served the people of Sri Lanka well, by bringing us the truth, and freely criticizing those who govern this country. Despite the unfair treatment by the Rajapaksa regime, and their efforts to silence you, you have prevailed. Good luck and may you continue your good work, dedication, and commitment to free speech. Cheers!

Well done Uvindu and colleagues in the CT. To note you deserve it will be a gross under-statement. This splendid recognition is all the more important because it is accomplished in an environment of an intimidating and hostile State that gives tuppence to decency, custom or the laws. That one of its notorious and corrupt collaborators, a newspaper publisher himself to boot, calls for the most profound gagging techniques to dissenting views at this time of our history in the country is evidence enough of the difficult conditions in which you function.

Here’s to greater strength to your elbow.

Colombo Telegraph, unlike the public-funded Daily News and the Sunday Observer edited by sycophants, seems to me to be the only paper presenting all sides of Sri Lanka-related issues. Just a year ago, it was a one-sided oppositional news sheet, just like the TamilNet and Siyarata. I reckon CT has learned much from reader feedback and experience.

However, i don’t regard CT reflects journalistic professionalism. The editors appear to be a bunch of amateurs who reify outdated Western norms of journalism. It does not understand that “plagiarism” was the norm of
journalism when the first news sheets began to be printed in the 16 th and 17 th century Europe. It does not understand that in the digital age people can access information from the public domain (for example, Wikipedia) to buttress their points of view.

It uses software (like Grammarly) to detect where writers have “plagiarized.” as if this was an egregious legal sin, “Plagiarism” is inevitable in the digital Web 2.0 era. If you detect “plagiarism” through your smart software, don’t feel smart about detecting it. Just advice the writer to attribute it to the original source.

Congrads Colombo Telegraph – a bold and fearless journal in a captive land now globally dismissed as a Police State in the likes of Iran, Zimbabwe and North Korea. It is common knowledge people in the Rajapakse country are denied the right of free expression of opinion – if not favourable to the illegitimate State. In the jaundiced eyes of the Rajapakses even the UN system is also a “Terrorist organisation”

Sri Lanka, arguably, holds the dubious world record of seeing many of her frontline journalists in voluntary exile – an undesirable reputation to the Rajapakse family now improperly seeking a third term of “legitimacy”

I was watching this conversation all along and noticed no one paid attention to the shit vender Javi and this too may be a reason why US Library of Congress has considered CT for inclusion because the commenters are capable of avoiding shit piles while they walk down the scholarly path. The clown made a valiant attempt in vein to break into the discussion but everybody just ignored him! What a shame! What a pathetic sub-human living on the left-overs of Rajapakshas!

To the US Library of Congress: Please install an online “Shit Filter” to sterilize “patho(la)gens like Javi in CT content before archiving.
