SB Should Make A Public Apology And Resign; AG Should Take Legal Action Against SB: Friday Forum

The Friday Forum has today urged the Attorney General to take legal action against Minister of Higher Education, S.B. Dissanayake. Condemning the recent statement made by the Minister of Higher Education, S.B. Dissanayake which was directed at the Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, the Friday Forum said; “Minister Dissanayake should resign forthwith, making a public apology to Chandrika Kumaratunga and to the country.”

We publish below the statement in full;

Professor Arjuna Aluwihare

Professor Arjuna Aluwihare

On 12 December 2014 Minister of Higher Education, S.B. Dissanayake said on Sirisa TV, that the former President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Kumaratunga should be “put down on the ground, trampled, stripped naked and made to run along the streets”. This is a terrible statement to come from any individual, but that a Minister of Higher Education, a supposed role model for young people, felt it was even remotely appropriate for him to make such a statement, is truly appalling. In many other countries, he would have been forced to resign or have been dismissed the very next day. At the very least he would have been asked to apologise. None of this was forthcoming, pointing to the culture of violence and hate speech having been so normalized in Sri Lanka that both government and public seem to tolerate it with little or no dissent.

As election fever for the presidential election mounts, there is a lot of talk about institutional change, better economics and a fight against corruption. What is also needed is a drastic change in our political culture. Viciousness and vitriol existed previously but were confined to the periphery of political space. Editors did their job and printed news that “was fit to print”. Today this government, more than any other, has given vitriol and hate speech centre place, whether in its newspapers, radio or TV. Horrendous things are written and said about individuals in the Daily News, SLBC or ITN. We have become accustomed to the crudeness of the so called “attack dogs” of the government, whether they be Ministers, members of Parliament, editors of newspapers, journalists or supportive intellectuals, so much so that we read them with amusement or turn the page. Some people, however, sadly take them seriously. The purpose of this privileged place being given to vitriol is to make individuals the target of hate and thereby to intimidate them, either to keep silent, stop their work or go abroad. To a great extent the government has succeeded in “chilling” speech and action because of the viciousness and vitriol.

The words of the Minister of Higher Education are part of this strategy. He feels no shame in saying such things in a country that once extolled “lajja” as one of the highest virtues, and he thinks that they are acceptable words to be broadcast to the people of our country on public TV. That such crude words of violence against women, advocating forced nudity – which in situations of armed conflict is an international war crime – should come publicly from any human being, let alone a Minister of Higher Education, truly beggars belief.

Minister Dissanayake should  resign forthwith, making a public apology to Chandrika Kumaratunga and to the country. The Attorney General should look into the possibility of taking legal action against him.

Former President was verbally assualted by SB is given no attention by the incumbent president to the very same manner he deliberateyl paid a blind eye at the time following brutal incidents occured/made occured in the recent past

a)Dr Nonis, former Ambassador to the UK was reported to have attacked by close confidiante – former Baggage boy – Sajin Vaas was fully ignorned by the president and any authorities that needed to pay prompt attention on it – instead President included the unciviilzed creature to his entourage heading to ROME -Pope as the man in power is made out of stones; as no hearts actually

      b) Baratha was a presdiential advisor but got contract killed by or without incumbent s knowledge but the family was brutally abused – specially the slain advisor s daughter to consolidate his voter base in Kollonawa.Immatured victimzed daughter kept injustice but not having alternatives than fighting for justice continued with all angers and desparities keeping in her. If I were her, I would have commited suicide – being unable to face further injustices made to the victimzied family by all cold blood tricks unique to Rajapakse

      c) Duminda Silva the alleged murderer today turned rich man of the Kollonawa people – so called Philanthrophist – was kept away from the island to protect him – while PM of the cabinet was well aware of the real MEDICAL condition of allegedly deadly head injured Duminda but state biased new reporters covered the story very secret manner – not allowing world medical experts to closely screen the medical source data of the injured man – yet to surface what was the TRUTH of Duminda S HEAD injuries. If would be found false, all the presidential experts took part to publicize wrong views to cover the court case of Baratha should have been punished with long imprisonments – the days are being numbered today.

Before this infamous statement by SB, he admitted 2000 Presidential election was totally rigged. And won by CBK.

As a close ally of President CBK at that time, he was in-charge of that election manipulation.

He went on to admit all votes of deceased people were also cast. In favor of ruling regime at that time.

Manipulating Supreme Will of the people, during an election is one of the worst crimes anyone can commit in a democracy. Unforgivable!

SB should have been arrested already then.

      Cheers!

      PS:

Disappointed to see that you have failed to grow-up since the time you were teaching at the med fac.

Isn’t it better if you keep to medicine without trying to dabble in politics?

Leave it to the crooks at FF please. They seem to be borne for it -on the loosing side.

RE: SB Should Make A Public Apology And Resign; AG Should Take Legal Action Against SB: Friday Forum

SB will not resign. He will have to be removed with his boss Medamulana Mara.

How, let the people know the facts.

Write, Print and Distribute the Common sense Phamplet, Sri Lanka, 2014, just like what Thomas Paine did in 1776 for the Americans.

Time is of essence. Hurry. Election is on Jan 8, 2015, 20 more days!

    Common Sense (pamphlet)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_%28pamphlet%29

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. In clear, simple language it explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2]

Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[3] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[4] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.[5]

What Dissanayake was urging if carried out could even result in the death of President Kumaratunga.

If his diatribe was acted upon by someone would the “Honorable” MP not be party to a case of assault and maybe murder? If a Minister — a person holding high office and having tremendous powers in his hand over thousands of our youth — if such a person can stoop so low as to urge humiliation and physical violence upon a woman, how can we be surprised about misbehaviour or even violence among the younger generation? Instead of being a role model, as Friday Forum says, he is a model for the most despicable and uncouth behaviour one can possibly imagine.

The utter glee on the Minister’s face when he spewed those shocking words makes one wonder whether he is completely sane. He seems to be unaware of the enormity of his, well, I would call it a challenge, a challenge to someone to come forward and carry out his outrageous wishes.

WHich woman would be safe in a country where a Minister calls for such behaviour? What does his own wife and daughters, if he has any, feel about what he has uttered? They must be ashamed for him at the very least.

Certainly he should immediately have been summoned by the President and stripped of (well, not his clothes) his office on the spot. That he is allowed to “go free”, enjoy impunity, booms volumes for the state of affairs in this country, the quality of government, the absence of collective responsibility and the abysmal level of our political culture.

We know that violence and thuggery, alas, are now part and parcel of an election, but this must be the first time that a Minister, a person set over us to govern us, has actually, publicly, CALLED FOR IT in no uncertain terms.

    O tempora, O mores!

If this is what he calls for in public, one shudders to imagine what he is urging behind closed doors — all-out war?

Thank you, Friday Forum, for taking a public stand on this shocking incident.

First we need to find whether this Minister has a mother and was born of a women and has a decent honorable wife (not a prostitute he married) that he went home after making this speech. Second we need to find out whether all his colleagues including the President who have not disagreed with his statement thus tacitly supporting him, also were born of women and have mothers and have decent wives and women folk in their homes or are actually having a family life style similar to a brothel. If these fellows were from an environment of the former, then such statements would never have emanated from their mouths, because they come from a honorable and decent background. However, if they are from homes that are similar to brothels where their own wives, daughters and mothers are screwed by even their own security persons and drivers, then it is not surprising for bastards like SB and his colleagues to make such statements and feel proud and supportive of it.

The uncivilized Minister deserves further jail sessions – though he feels previous sessions were not clean against him. If anybody would listen to the man s filthy talks of current day would loose nerves but president in sheep cloth -yet to show his true colours to the nation, will do whatever harm if anybody would go against his far brutal regime that has no comparison to the previous ones safar.
I myself raise the question today – the unrest of the today s undergrades which is being mistreated by sole mediation of this minister today though manipulated to the media – students have every right to go against the brutal man. This man should be hung by his balls to give some digree of respect to the academics in general of the island.
People, students, uni professionals stay mum since they are well aware of the fact that nothing would help taking fair side.

Tell me who is not uncivlized in the current bunch ? Even shantha dantha GLP has now turned virulent. Even the Macco parrots at Temple trees should have turned most virulent adlers to this day -since the incumbent s nature is not other way around. They have got in their gene codes to be against civlized people.

Last night having watched Balaya political discussion, I myself raise the question why the buggers in power constantly compare the wrong doings of previous UNP govt when reponsidng to the questions made by opposition today. Well educated lanken talent Dr. Silva clearly made to the Soysa (Gonbatta of the ruling thuggish coalition) that the discussion should be based on real arguments not just evasive baseless says. And the manner so called rural talkative pundit Bandula Gunawardhana to go against Federal system that CBK govt suggested to the cabinet then – making the former president as the all worst creature – IS FAR from ethics and morals
Today, there are many countries that successfully work with federal systems – so there was nothing wrong for me and others to have suggested that as a solution. I know Germany s federal state nature developed that country after the war is no longer there. Several other european states practise that system more successfuly… and tha to be seen as a big blunder of the president.. while keeping the key architect of that then – GLP as their FM today… I really dont get why this buggers like Bandula to go against CBK so brutally.
Their wording being used in such forums are far uncivlized. In the same manner, the man with all filth ablities – SB to suggest CBK to be made naked for what she has now proposed etc – will create even more dislike s to the ruling men

In February this year the British Immigration minister, Mark Harper resigned after it was found that his cleaner was an illegal immigrant.

He did not know that he had employed an illegal immigrant but he still resigned.

In his resignation letter he said that while he had not broken the law as an employer, he believed that his position meant he must “hold myself to a higher standard than expected of others and should have checked more thoroughly that the documents provided by the cleaner were genuine”.

Compare this honorable man with SB!

But what do we expect to happen? MR chides SB, but gently, because he needs his allies. SB promises not to cross over and to keep quiet until it all dies down. MR asks his aides to try and find some genuine dirt on CBK where she attacked SB. Meanwhile My3 waits to see whether SB will jump ship. After My3 is sure, he too condemns SB. The same old same old.

That is why Britain is Great but Lanka is not Sri.

Fully endorsed the Statement of the Friday Forum, a collection of highly respected group of daughters and sons of Sri Lanka. It is a humiliation for the entire country for the President to have appointed this SB as the Minister of Higher Education. This statement of his is the limit that anyone could go to in a platform of Presidential Election, where matters of policy and national interest should be brought up.
The comment of Hirumika P, a great daughter of our nation was the most appropriate.”This disgraceful Utterance can not come fro a human who had been given birth and breast fed by a woman”.
The women in our nation has a selection to make NOW. To choose between man or beast.

If one goes through the following public statements which were uttered by the ruling thugs , it’s fare to say that all of them have gone completely crazy ,

    1) MR’s uttering that he will chop off his hands if his hands are tainted with blood.

    2) Nishantha Muthhettigama admitting that “computer jilmart” is real and if necessary they would do it this time too.

    3) SB publicly announcing to strip former president CBK .

    4) Disaster Minister M.Amaraweera’s admission that his colleagues been plundering colossal amount of public money and resources hence they only need little bit of “Watalappan” as their dessert.

    5) MR’s infamous “pile story”(File)

Not only S.B.Dissanayake, the foul mouthed “A”pavithra Wanniarachchi and Mahindananda “Kunu”Gamage also have to resign. They are disgrace to Sri Lankan Politicians, Parliament and above all to the Peace Loving People of Sri Lanka.

Best thing would be to use rest of the amunitions of the civil war to destroy these men and women – Pawithra s cesspit may have been used by many of the mentioned for their survival. But as we see it today, only a very limited bunch are sent to TV discussions – mostly that Bandula Gunawardhan and the man once bitten by a cobra immediately police announced to arrest him or thelike.

Need of the hour is to clarrify the people what is civilized and what is not.
Nothing can help, if SB and the like would remain further without being made them clear where they went wrong.

Mahadanamutta and horu 40 – is the role model distribution of the current adminsitration. So long this would stay further, nothing towards good will be made.
Mahandanamutta – incumbent president is not hearted enough with these issues. Nor has he been creating due enviroments to resolve these issues. He is full blood ignorant – but would enjoy be in power- above everything.

I support the statement of the Friday Forum. Condemnation is insufficient.

    1. The lackey Minister has incited violence in asking people to put down CBK and trample her. It is an offence for which he should be charged, though it is not certain whether mere incitement without more is sufficient to make an offence. Getting an old woman to run in the nude shows his peculiar perversion.

    2. What is the Friday Forums stance on the past acts of corruption of CBK? We are not talking of an innocent babe in the woods. What is the stance of FF on the killings by the army of Tamils during her rule? We know that MR is guilty of such war crimes. But, what of those committed by CBK? Will Friday Forum care to comment, as the rule of law requires that criminals be treated equally.

    3. What of the Sinhalese youth, many of them innocent, killed during the JVP uprisings? Who is to be accountable for these killings?

Except for the fact that elections are around the corner and priority must be given to getting rid of the monster in power, the country must be purged of these past sins if it is to have a future under the rule of law.
The Friday Forum, consisting such eminent people, must address their thought wider than play politics to suit the occasion.

    Dear Manel Fonseka:
This is not the first time SB has uttered / acted in such gutter behaviour During the “infamous Wayamba” elections SB striped a female UNP supporter in public. Fault of CBK is that she did not sack him then from the Cabinet or take any other action. So he wouldhav accptd that as what CBK approves. That would have made him now to be bold enough to degrade her in such a style. What ever political hues we have, CBK was our President and we have to respect her.
    .
The civility in the west and specially in the U.S. is that a President even after leaving office is addressed to as President. This even applies to Judges and Ambassadors. I could remember seeing on TV an interview of President Clinton by an American channel during his presidency where the interviewer asked a question from the President about some event referring to President Nixon as just “Nixon”. Then President Clinton interrupted him and asked him: “Are you referring to President (with emphasis on the word President) Nixon.” Although President Nixon belonged to his opposing party, he did not allow the (two by four) interviewer to degrade a former President and showed him to learn to respect those who deserved to be respected. That is the political culture they have which we are always critical of.
As far as I know, Prof. Asoka Ekanayake, Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Dental Science, University of Peradeniya was the first to write to SB (with copies to all Vice Chancellors) in protest of his uncultured verbosity.

I was surprised to see on the evening news a shot of Namal Rajapakse and SBD sitting together at a meeting somewhere and having a good laugh together. One wonders what about.

Namal Rajapakse who bemourns on his website the ‘ungentlemanly’ behaviour of Maithripala Sirisena — referring to his ‘breaking bread’ with Mahinda one day and deserting him the next — clearly has his own evaluation of what is gentlemanly. Obviously, he is not dismayed by Dissanayake’s foul utterances in any way.

One is always judged by the company one keeps.

Not surprising that NR keeps company with SBD,
Birds of a feather flock together after all.
Friday Forum’s condemnation of the Education Minister’s indecent ill tempered outburst should set the bar for all Lankan politicians across the board to be conscious of, whenever they are likely to get carried away by their own sound bite.

    0

As everyone knows, MR is a shrewd judge of local politikkas. He knew
the near-slumdog SBD is a man utterly without principles but super ambitious to become President. MR also knows the unreliable SBD can turncoat anytime. See what he did to CBK who brought him to the Cabinet. So MR did the best thing. He gave him the Education Ministry – usually the Kanatte of most politicians in our recent political culture. Who is the Minister who can survive trying to sell a “privatise education” project? Remember Premadasa tried the same strategy to destroy Athulathmudali. As MR figured SBD is now half-destroyed. He cannot step into any University without a huge Army/Police backup.

His untamed tongue, that took him to jail once, will finish the rest.

There is no chance of MR or the Courts taking action against this foul-mouthed rascal in view of the bad publicity it can bring to the President’s campaign. But, mark my words. If in the next few days it becomes palpable MR is on the losing trail, you can count on SBD to jump ship.

I comment when I appreciate a article on a website or I have something to valuable to contribute to the discussion. It is caused by the fire communicated in the article I looked at. And after this article SB Should Make A Public Apology And Resign; AG Should Take Legal Action Against SB: Friday Forum . I was actually moved enough to post a comment ;-) I do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright. Is it simply me or does it look as if like a few of the remarks appear like left by brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing on additional places, I would like to follow anything new you have to post. Would you list all of your communal pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
