Cut Out The Balderdash & Get On With An Election!

By R.A. Ratwatte

Watching the extended teledrama that is being played out in my home Country, there is nothing to do but cringe. Cringe in disgust and abject incredulity, that this type of nonsense is being tolerated!

I was delighted to see that the most venerable Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatte chapter had told Mr. Kiriella to get on with it and cut out the rubbish, or words to that effect. It is this type of no nonsense leadership and guidance that we must look to from our religious leaders. At least this particular Priest remembers what he was threatened with when he tried to organize a protest from the Sanga. How he was threatened with the removal of some temples from his overview and how his Karaka sabhawa panicked. Causing a rift in the Maha Sangha is, we are told one of the worst sins a person can do. Maybe it is time for the Rajapaksas’ to pay?

Rather sad to see yet another man from Ratnapura usurping the mantle of the only credible representative of the UNP from that region, by default. There are so many others, much more able but skulking in the background for reasons that only they understand.

Mahinda rajapaksa Colombo Telegraph USIn one sense the longer it takes to have the election, the longer this nonsense is exposed for what it is. The desperate bellowing from the Deep South is being shown up for what it is. An attempt to keep rogues and rascals out of jail. An attempt to cover up murders, robberies and utter injustice meted out to anyone who was seen as a threat to the Rajapaksa family and everyone who dared to stand in their way.

There are so many stories of Rugby players who dared to court someone desired by a prince, of people driving home from parties who didn’t give way to a prince returning from debauchery, who was mercilessly beaten and almost murdered. This same victim was “advised” by the police to keep quiet and was told he was lucky to be alive! Other victims have been sent abroad to diplomatic postings to keep them quiet.

Two of the most able people who have deigned to put in their time and sacrifice their future for the betterment of our mother land, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Arjuna Mahendran are having abuse and scorn heaped on them. So many others who tried to do a decent job of work, in many different fields from wild life conservation to economics have suffered this same fate in the past. It seems that when it is perceived that someone will succeed or do a good job he is destroyed. It looks like a collective decision is made by all those failed aspirants who have held on to their jobs by hook or by crook that , “this guy may succeed and surely we can’t allow that “ !

The tame press is unleashed. Totally untrue articles are published by so called “investigative journalists” whose investigations happen inside a bottle of arrack. Corrupt stinking scum who pass for members of parliament and who have the effrontery to make speeches in raw filth are allowed to do so. Many a good man has tried to make a difference and been consigned to the dustbins of Sri Lankan history.

It will not happen this time! I say have faith in the people of our Country. They know how to vote and they will show the recently gelded buffalo, the way to the door!

Well written article highlighting the truth of the dirty past. It’s time to forget the dirty past and steer clear of the evils and rule our srilanka with honesty and integrity.

Do we say the lies said by the politicians about the religion has destroyed the country or the country has destroyed the religion.
Why the prelates danced to,the tune of Undemocratic dictatorial politicians? What the Sangha says ? They should follow the books written centuries ago about Buddhism. The maha sangha holds the key to how the religion should be followed and accordingly and not to please the political leaders. Why have they not raised issues when the politicians turning into wicked rulers.
Do they have powers to check the conduct of the rulers of the country and too check the conduct of the fellow yellow robed priests??
These issues are untouched for decades in our country.. Is it time for the Religious Chiefs to wake up and lead the unruly Buddhism which is believed and practiced by You and me to be guided in to correct path??

Those who enjoyed the largesse of Mahinda Rajapakse and his corrupt dictatorial regime are trying to prevent elections, and propping him up in the vain hope of his becoming PM.
These parasites do not want a ‘clean’ election, as they fear a repeat of what happened on January 7th.

You’re only enjoying post January 8th freedoms and venting after being silent for so long.

Where were you when 1983 massacre of innocents happened under your pal JRJ/RW’s regime? Where was your courage when Sinhalese disappeared, tortured and burnt on rubber tyres during 1987 to 1989? All pogroms against Tamils happened when your party was in power from 1977 to 1990s. Yes election needed but your pretend outrage is drawing and MASSIVE amnesia attack about your pals JRJ and RW OF Gonawela Sunil and Batalanda sir. Otherwise it’s a good article m wish you powerful rich and very influential UNP families spoke out against violence under JRJ. We fled SRI LANKA because our homes even on Dharmapala mawatha, were attacked and destroyed by UNP under JRJ not under the thieves from deep south.

      R.A.Ratawate mahaththaya ……..
Where were you when the unsuspecting 13 Soldiers were blown to pieces in 1983 July?………. to be more precise.

What is it? A mud slinging campaign against R.A.Ratawate Mahaththaya and the UNP by Swaminathan Gayathri Nona……..
She is safe as Gona Sunil is no more.

We not only spoke out , We risked life and limb to shelter those affected and transport them to safety.

There are witnesses to these events !

I wish you would stop living in the past and try to do something constructive towards taking our Country forward.

      Well said, Ms Gayathri!
We must all remember how the lives of Tamil people of Colombo were turned upside down in just one morning, how their houses set ablaze and how the government looked the other way, on July 23 of 1983, and all under UNP’s watch, with RW in the government and JRJ at the helm..where was the UNHRC then!!!
SL should declare 23 July as a National day of mourning!

Indeed it’s time for a Parliamentary election . Old parliament has run its due course. All of them now have their car permits and pensions. Let the people decide and send a message to extremists and ethno nationalists and separatist terrorist a clear message. A new parliament and a government of national unity that includes TNA is a sine qua non for stability, healing and protection against internal and foreign interference.

looks like you are sitting in some far off land passing judgement based on the standard bunkum which is being sprouted by UNP. Get down to the grass roots and feel the pulse of the land Mr Ratwatte and you will understand the way the tide is shifting. It’s not by those who benefited largesse from he former regime but from the ordinary man who can see the way the country is being destroyed by a bunch of inexperienced and incapable bum suckers of west. People no longer care even if the Rajapaksas’ made a buck because they also developed the country , saved the nation from grip of terror and gave us a sense of national pride. These UNP rogues are more corrupt and have worse track records of human rights violations like during batalanda terror and underworld rule we suffered during UNP/ RW’s regime. You also seem to forget CBK’s time when Anuruddha Ratwatte’s sons acted more than like princes !! During sirimavo’s period the airs and graces of the Ratwatte clan who were at the helm of power were worse! It’s not It’s not like we have a bunch of saints in the current unelected govt. Yes a election is long overdue – that’s the only point I will concede. Let there be an election fast so that UNP can be packed off to political Siberia where they belong !

      Premila,

Just because you have a Tamil name do I presume you belong to the LTTE ?

Likewise please do your research as to who I am and where I come from before you categorize me with members of my family that you don’t like !

You don’t need to concede anything to me just read and reply if you wish to.

Speaking of bunkum…Ranil inexperienced ?? See you in Siberia !

      Premilla:
You say “You also seem to forget CBK’s time when Anuruddha Ratwatte’s sons acted more than like princes !! “
Would you care to tell us with whom those sons have been associated. In fact, one of them is one of the “Chiefs” in the thug brigade of your hero, Mahinda R.
Come on, Premilla, deal with the FACTS instead of making wild accusations!
