Daham Sirisena, What The Fuck Were You Doing Up There?

Daham Sirisena marred the post-match presentation of the 137th Royal / Thomian awards ceremony when he appeared on stage uninvited.

The son of President Maithripala Sirisena took the Joint Organizing Committee of the event by total surprise when he got on stage initially to shake hands with chief guest Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe and remained on stage thereafter till the presentation was over.

“Fuck the fucking fuckers, what the fuck was Daham doing up there? ” an old Royalist complained about the organizing committee assuming that they had invited Daham Sirisena to be one of the distinguished guests on stage to give away the awards.Daham Sirisena Royal Thomian 2016

However when Colombo Telegraph contacted a member of the Royal /Thomian Joint Committee he refuted this claim and said that even they were surprised to see Daham Sirisena get on stage. “In fact even Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe looked a bit embarrassed when he was taken by surprise when Daham sprung up on stage to shake his hand.” he said.

A distinguished old Royalist said ” It’s embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing ! there were many respected past cricketers of Royal College in attendance. If at all one of them should have been up there and not this idiot. Daham’s presence certainly took the gloss of our fascinating victory by being present on stage. “Daham Sirisena Royal Thomian 2016

“Looks like he is a crazy psycho who now is habitually using his daddy’s powers to be seen in public” another commentator said.

When asked why Daham Sirisena was on stage another Joint Committee Member said “even I did not know who he was. One idiot jumped on stage and shook Premier Wickremesinghe’s hand. When asked to step down he refused and remained up there. As we were busy and since the ceremony was not going to take too long we ignored him and let him be in the foreground. Only later we found out that he was President Sirisena’s son.”

“None of the committee members could sleep last night with a plethora of calls coming through demanding answers as to what Daham Siirsena was doing among such a distinguished gathering” said another disgruntled Joint Committee Member.

The guests on stage who gave away the awards comprised of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Group Chief Executive Dialog Axiata Dr.Hans Wijayasuriya, Warden S.Thomas’ College Rev. Marc Billimoria, Royal College Principal B.A. Abeyratne, S.Thomas’ College cricket captain of 1975 Mohan De Silva, Royal College cricket captain of 1969 Eardley Lieversz and Dr. Hiran Wimalaratne Co-Chairman JOC Host Royal College.

Royalists in general suffer from superiority complex.

No matter he by his behaviour is an idiot, but to say ” I am royalist” saves them everyone within the country. I met few royalists once in Swtizerland and twice in Germany. They are so proud to be royalists even if they are not even basic degree holders. Not even Queen Elisabeth 2 WOULD repeat that often them being royal family in the UK; but so called lanken royalists do so. Shame on your lankens that cant see beyond your nose.

        You are telling the truth.

I myself observed this several times, but I kept quiet, me being Mahindian. Royalists behave very special.

          Samuel,

onces we had a get together for WUS session in Germany. There the older boys of Royalists attended behaved as if they are so superior.
This is in their blood. They feel that they are the ones to teach others anything everything. So narrow minded typ of ones I have sofar met from Royal college. This culture should erode from lankens if we should build up the nation. Having completed a good schooling is one of good things one to succeed his life. But as I said, that is one of them only. Even at Pera – Royalists behave themselves, ” I am royalist”. This they abuse as if they earned academic titles. Those who achieved their academic titles stay mum while so called old royalsts boast about their college.
As one of above commentators added – ” just manne (complex) but nothing beyond” is common to average in this country. We are still centuries behind the civilized folks of this globe.

You may be right. we should be proud of our schools but no need to exagerate. This has become their tradition in the country. Today the internet era has made world a global village.

” They are so proud to be royalists even if they are not even basic degree holders.”

that is because they could not even grow their hair because of the vice principal ‘cutaya'(cut hair).you should have it short like in the military. Not only the hair on the head, you will have to shave the hair on your balls and arse too. That guy was so strict that when you are walking in the corridors suddenly you will find a whole heap of guys coming running in your direction shouting ‘cutaya’ and you will also turn and hook it.Then he also comes to the classrooms and scratches around.Any other school with that kind of discipline?so royalists are proud that they are the most disciplined and law abiding members of society.it is very rare indeed to find someone who has disgraced the school and country.discipline should start from the day you are born in my opinion, though ‘cutaya’would take it to eccentric extremes.

          Shankar,
I fully agree with you no doubt about that we each of us should be well displined from the day 1 st on.
But how can you expect this from a nation every second is highly corrupted mind ?
Just talk to 100- 1000 representing a cross section of people of this country and clear your minds if you have any other thoughts. Even so called educated ones that boast about being educated have some characteristics that the westeners consider as ” corrupted”. Like ones that go through favorisation rather than following the proper steps to get someting day today issues done – are not clean. This culture is entwined with corruption. Each time visting country, I get hurt having compelled to see simple things the way they happen in the country, from the first step – where passengers just arrived in are being controlled, there I find that those officers at the immigration counters are not well trained to do the job. Most of them behave as if they are so corrupted, not asking each and everyone to follow the lines – but supporting their aquintance, friends being given priority. Suddas get hurt just by looking this. Once I happened to explain one of my colleagues (Germans) also travelled with me it is the culture of the like countries. That will never change.

I agree Shankar, people who had no opportunity go to Royal, out of jealousy , insulting Royalists…

That the kind of complex disturbs others. That is it.
We dont mind you being royalists, but it is not royal academy of physicians – it is an another school only. You guys exagerate and make every efforts to show off by telling that you are royalists, besides, to become royalists you should be born to royal families not just having the chance to go to that school cant make you a royalist -basta

You are right. When the Royalists try to act superior it makes it difficult for us Thomians, who are really superior.

          0

those schools that offer English medium from the beginning on feel them to be superior. But whereever you go today, you can see those who come from village schools have achieved a lot in their education compared to those got their schooling st peters, st thomas, Royal or anywhere. Colonisation has left the mentality to behave them so. English is just an another medium only – Angela Merkel or other european nations would never give English speakers a chance – see right at the moment, UK behaves as if a dog tried to hide his tail behind while Germans and even Turks make every effort to save the lives of Syrians. Uk has no capacity to even discuss the issues not having funds enough to contribute their roles. It is believed Portugal and GB are the next round of countries that would face the greece style economic falls.

Why dont you try and get your kid to royal. Then only you’ll understand why royalist are so special . Having power and money is not alone enough to attend royal. Even CBK couldnt get his son admitted to royal. Its an institute with a proud history. I dont have to explaine more

          Come on Royal!

        • 9
          1

Getting admitted to Royal is very difficult due to its limited resources. Studying at Royal alone doesn’t make someone a good human being. Unfortunately, the majority of the Royalists do not have much personal achievements and the only qualification they boast about is studying at the Royal. Even the PM and his buddy CB Governor do not have the commonsense to clear the doubts cast over bond scam. Utter arrogance. Thiefs. Do not know how to behave at a gathering. I am happy that some international and rural schools are doing better than RC in creating qualified future leaders.

I do not think this Dham guy is a Royalist! Can someone enlighten me?

I think it is human nature (insecurity, inferiority) that people try to make them belong to one tribe and want to look down on the others!
I feel sad for these idiots that carry their Uni, school like a honor!

On the other hand, These schools should be available only for kids with special skills (year 5 scholarship). This way one can get rid of many idiots who just happened to live withing one mile radius and got entry!

Of course Royalists are special. Not only Royalists however, everybody love their school , especially guys from Colombo, Kandy and Galle and Jaffa, proud about their school.. what is wrong with that?

        • 0
          0

Everybody has a need of their own dignity, and must take pride in their roots; why not add after Galle and Jaffna, Dambana Vidyalaya, and Mavilmaru Vidyalayam. Their products look back fondly on their formative years, and think admiringly of some their old teachers who appeared to know everything, like Goldsmith’s Village Schoolmaster whose “words of learned length and thundering sound, amazed the gazing rustics ranged round.” To the extent that “doing something for the old school” reflects a desire to improve the prospects of the next generation it is admirable.

However, many Sri Lankans who have been to “elite schools” here certainly overdo it. Those are the guys who have little else to boast of, or who while having achieved something in their youth now feel left behind in their middle and old age. Plus, of course, the social climbers.

Daham probably had the last few years of his schooling in Royal Colombo, but he is doing massive damage to the country by bringing his entire family in to disrepute. The respect his father still commands is being made a joke of by this guy. Yes, transition from the village to the city in one generation is stressful, but it doesn’t look as though this guy has ever sat down to think seriously about what life is about.

I was shocked when I first saw this, and tried to say so from a tablet during the hours of darkness during the power blackout. Still worried, not only about the story, but also about some of the comments, and the language used by CT, although “What . . f***” possibly reflects the thoughts many would have had when seeing the pictures.

President Maithri Sirisena, you’ve got to rein this guy in!

And that too dressed like a pavement hawker. Trouble is both gamaya son and daughter think because the father is technically No.1 they are above the law – and tastelessly demand respect from the people.

You should be really intelligent person not to learn respect the president of the country. Like or not he is the president of the island nation today. We had guys that looted the nation but was honoured by any of you since his lies were injected in you and the ilk easily. How can he be a that stupid if his govt is the one who gave a new light to the lanken democracy. Today entire world is looking at the country praising the way lanka marches forward. Had it been at the time your most abusive president MR in the office ? Even today, he abuses the journalists though being defeated and rejected by people .. not being able to bear his politics further.

As a person who studied at “Thumpane” Central, this incident at Royal College and ‘Gentleman’ Piyadasa & other Royal Gentlemen’s comments put tears into my eyes. 21 years old Thisuri Wanniarrachie’s article about Colombo Big Matches received similar outrageous comments from Gentlemen studied in Colombo..
Couple of years back, at Japanese Embassy in SL, I met a Japanese Monk reading a Sinhala Newspaper. He talked to me in very good Sinhalese. In the end, I asked him about his thoughts about Sinhalese people in general.
      He answered, “හොද මිනිස්සු මහත්තය. හැබැයි මේ අයගේ ලොකුම ප්‍රශ්නේ තමයි – මාන්නේ “.

It is not only the complex but also stupidity. Having studied and lived in Europe for the last 3 decades, I see it this way. In Gemany, many known to me are higher medical profeissionals They simly dont care about the academic titles and where they obtained their degrees. Most of them are PD Doctors (PRIVAT DOZENT Doktor) (equivalent to Associate Professors). They are not used to be called as Drs. I believe our people have colonial mentality AND that is the reason why they behave like Cameroonians and Ghanains.

Surely it was the responsibility of the Organizing Committee to clear the stage of all uninvited persons and other riff raff and if the Organizing Committee did not do that we should ask that Committee what the – – – – were you doing ? were you trying to get marks from him ?I say it is utterly irresponsible behaviour of the OC.

It is naive to think that the security officials did not recognize the person who went up the stage to shake the hand of the PM .In another country either the person would have been apprehended by the security men or the security officials taken to task ..This is not a who is who matter but a security breach I feel certain communications with those on the stage would have happened before someone was permitted to go up the stage and no surprise . and if it was so , this news seem lukewarm . The PM embarrassed? I wonder for he was more than embarrassed by the ignorant statements made by his Minister of education and still that man is on the political stage ..so Daham your Ok son it is a minor issue .its an old school tie issue ..so many state schools do not even have such ritual so what does it matter wait for your time to go on the stage to show and tell your own achievements !

The boy needs a good hiding with his dada’s “Madu Waligey” whip until he learns some decorum in public behavior. He is ill mannered, gate-crashing, creeping into places uninvited, dressed like as he had been sleeping in his pants and his shoes look like as if he had just climbed out of his dada’s rice field. What an idiotic behavior, he is bringing shame to that polite and disciplined dad of his. MS will end up like MR getting the blame for their unruly children’s unacceptable behavior. Yes, bring out that whip, and get this boy to heel before he destroys you MS!

Just because he is the son of the President does not give him the right to be on stage uninvited. Read a few comments and I find that Royal college being criticized and that they are suffering from a superiority complex. It is these people who criticized here that are suffering from an INFERIORITY complex. To these idiots, I ask if it is ok for him to walk in at any time and get on any stage whether at any international event, business event or a Beauty pageant (which would be thrilling). For that matter the idiot can also gate crash any wedding and get on the poruwa with the bride and groom to be photographed. He is letting his father down. We had the likes of Mervyn’s son and S B Dissanayake’s sons behaving in a derogatory manner threatening people, wielding guns and thuggery. Therefore the President should step in and give him a lecture on etiquette and behaviour along with a hiding perhaps before matters get out of hand. Breeding counts which CAN NOTbe bought with money or power

It was Ranil’s fault that Daham the Village Idiot was projected to the village idiots (read the comments in broken English) as a Hero with a capital H. Ranil displayed his weak character with his trademark confused look and ambivalent handshake. Ranil should have stripped the bugger and fucked him then and there on stage.

This is not to make fun of anybody or to make light of anyone’s life situation. But at the rate things are going, Sub-Saharan Africa will surpass Sri Lanka when it comes to things that matter. Maybe then, the less enlightened among us will finally realise what they once had and gave up for a ‘venasa.’ Watura na, kaema na, light na, salli na, andum na, raekiyaa na… kamak na… Mahinda gedara ne. Let us wish Sub-Saharan Africa the best, at least their leaders seem more competent than our own.

Please open your eyes and look around you, Sri Lanka is sliding backwards, about to be hung, drawn and quartered by the USA and India with their puppets in power and their agendas to fulfill. Our ancestors fought long and hard, endured so many trials and tribulations for more than two thousand years to maintain our independence and our identity and our freedom. We’re now failing them terribly; stabbed in the back by our own, so to speak.

Yahapalanaya is taking Sri Lanka back into the bad old days when nothing worked and Sri Lanka was stuck in what seemed like an endless purgatory. There is no silver lining here. Only darkness and gloom. We cannot let this sunless future be our destiny.

      Abey

“It is people like you that ruins democracy”.

No, It is people like you (Abey) that ruins democracy.

You got it terribly wrong, barging in uninvited just because he was a son of a President is not a democratic act, and people like you condoning such behavior by politicians’ children only ruins democracy.

Daham bears all the testimony of a spoilt child. He is certainly not a kid any more and an adult and by now should be standing on his own feet and gainfully employed. He can’t still be running behind his father and depending on his subsistence for his living!

What he did was a very cheap and shameful act and surprisingly he is not aware and thinks he had done a smart thing. Thanks so much to Durham for not concealing his deficiencies openly demonstrating for all to see that he is a good for nothing person, so resorting to various attention seeking exercises. To prove my point no one appreciated what he did to barge in uninvited onto the stage.

There is no purpose blaming the Rajapakse family for misdeeds by their children, first we should have our house in order before finding fault on others.

Behaving like this at his age it is unlikely he would have a good future and he to think like Rajapakse family they would be in the ruling elite for ever is very unfortunate. It is best he learns this soon and change his attitudes and then possibly consider plastic surgery to change is face!

The point is not about what school it was: what is worrying, indeed frightening is the persistence of this horrible corruption, that relatives of persons elected or selected to office are able to claim privileges for themselves also.
That is a mindset the whole country has to work hard to get rid of.

It is a nepotistic and feudal mindset and permeates our society at various levels. The cure has to start early from the primary school itself. Teachers among others should learn not to fawn upon the offspring of the high and mighty from the local level upwards.

The recognition of the distinction between a person and the office he holds is one of the features of a modern society and even in this little island of ours it would not hurt us to learn to make it a habit of mind.

Having said that, the truth remains that Mr Sirisena has to accept blame for the stupid shallowness of his offsprings. The error of his offspring is not mere prattling misbehaviour of children at home: it is the perpetuation and demonstration of national corruption.

High office is nothing if it does not bring with it higher responsibility. In the last analysis, if he cannot put his foot down and impress upon his kids that his office is what is given in trust to him and not a gift or lottery-win for the family, how much good governance can we really expect from him? Indeed it throws doubts not only on his character but on the character of all those who are close to him – his friends and advisers included.

For his sake and ours one hopes that we hear nor see this boy any more.

Please mind your language CT and kindly avoid using such headings in your features as there are many young viewera who read your site. Attributing such a remark to a so called Old Royalist is also very unfair as it can be construed that the writer has a prejudice against Royal and is using his freedom to write to cast aspirations against this hallowed institution.
Daham Sirisena is the son of the President of Sri Lanka and an old Royalist so he has every right to be accomodated on the stage. If the Organisers did not like his presence they could have told him to politely step down.
You will observe that when Justin Trudeau the Canadian PM was invited to the White House he was accompanied by his wife and three kids because that is an honour bestowed to a Head of State and is the usual norm. So if Daham went on stage and shook hands with the PM and probably someone in the organising commitee may have requested him to stay on.

Damn good for those [Edited out] in the Royal-Thomian Match organising committee for ignoring the SRI LANKAN brand of Beer – Lion Larger & choosing imported piss water to be sold at the match. Shows their loyalalty to Sri Lanka. These idiots deserve to be treated like shit. What a load of bull shit that they lost sleep over Daham Sirisena’s incident.

Surely the President must be aware of such ghastly lapaes by his children or at least told of it by close confidantes? This happened at the Bradby in Kandy some years ago to much embarssment to both Trinity and Royal – but not to the then father/son duo, at least that Jnr was dressed appropriately!

No big deal , He didn’t rob the country nor Murder a Player. Just got on stage. May be a childish act.

We had enough of the Rajapakse brats. No need for this fellow too to display his inferiority complex.

    An Interloper on stage!

The wry smile of the Premier says it all.
Neither a Royalist or Thomian,Daham is only too big for his shoes!

I would say to the Premier Esto Perpetua!

This guy is in a blue and gold shirt implying that he is a Royal supporter and whether he is or not I don’t know, lets assume he is. Is it just possible that he therefore has had a couple of shots, one too many, EITHER on his own volition or given by his mates, and thought that he should get on stage and shake the hand of the PM for the heck of it . After all more hilarious and damning things have been done at the RT. Remember the two guys who dressed up as umpires and walked onto the field during the tea break and took all at the grounds by surprise thinking the umpires had walked in, and then ran off?. Then remember the guy who climbed the 100 ft TELECOM TOWER and Pissed on the guy below him right from the top of the tower and refused to come down? Then the guy who somersaulted round the whole grounds three times for the heck of it to the hoots of everyone watching?
This Daham incident could be treated as just ANOTHER one of those ‘mental’ things that people do at the RT. After all this is what makes it “THE ROYAL/THOMIAN”. Just because he is the P’s son can’t he also do some mad thing? That is provided he is in this case a ROYALIST, as he is dressed up to be.

    Dear People,
Why you make such a big fuss over this?
It’s not fair by Daham, to criticize him for an incident like this. You must understand that he’s a old royalist and a youth who needs the freedom of doing something he wants to do.
It’s the fact that everyone is behind him as he’s the president’s son.
Give it a break and there’re much important things in Sri Lanka to discuss.

Then judge even Mahinda Rajapakse’s children too using the same yardstick! They too had the same rights as President’s children and I believe you do not find fault in Namal Rajapakse siting his law exam isolated from others in an A/C room.

Personally I do not think this sort of behavior is seen in Developed countries. Honestly I believe we are only doing Daham a disfavor by condoning his act and such behavior is simply a hallmark of people who do not have any aim in life and still wants to thrive on their parent’s wings. Remember Daham is a fully grown and mature adult and by now he should have the pride standing on his feet and desist being called ‘father’s son’. He should really avoid being seen with the father, and cultivate an image for himself. He is by all means a spoilt ‘child’, with no real aim in life, so resorting to various attention seeking exercises such as what was seen at the 137th Royal / Thomian awards ceremony. Had been asked to leave that might have shaken and woken him up. But unfortunately nothing of the sort happened and he will learn only when everything has collapsed around him. He has no educational qualification his only education was while at school, not sure whether he came to the Advanced Level. I believe he did not receive any diploma training in any field so not really employable at a staff level grade. These is the basic psychology behind what he did! An attention seeking exercise and tolerating such attitudes by people who care for him will only destroy him. Again the best thing could have happened was he would have been firmly asked to leave, if he refuses to call the security to drag him away like what would have happened to anyone else. He will resort to the same type of behavior till this Government collapses and he will find himself lost probably end up in the same plight as Rajapakse’s children (possibly Rajapakse has robbed enough for their children to survive without depending on any employment!).

In that way I respect Chandrika Kumaratunge’s children, possibly because they are of a different class, educated from a good school in Colombo and not in an outstation but bearing the name of a popular school in Colombo and you know what I mean! cheers
