Daham Sirisena, What The Fuck Were You Doing Up There?

Daham Sirisena marred the post-match presentation of the 137th Royal / Thomian awards ceremony when he appeared on stage uninvited.

The son of President Maithripala Sirisena took the Joint Organizing Committee of the event by total surprise when he got on stage initially to shake hands with chief guest Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe and remained on stage thereafter till the presentation was over.

“Fuck the fucking fuckers, what the fuck was Daham doing up there? ” an old Royalist complained about the organizing committee assuming that they had invited Daham Sirisena to be one of the distinguished guests on stage to give away the awards.Daham Sirisena Royal Thomian 2016

However when Colombo Telegraph contacted a member of the Royal /Thomian Joint Committee he refuted this claim and said that even they were surprised to see Daham Sirisena get on stage. “In fact even Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe looked a bit embarrassed when he was taken by surprise when Daham sprung up on stage to shake his hand.” he said.

A distinguished old Royalist said ” It’s embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing ! there were many respected past cricketers of Royal College in attendance. If at all one of them should have been up there and not this idiot. Daham’s presence certainly took the gloss of our fascinating victory by being present on stage. “Daham Sirisena Royal Thomian 2016

“Looks like he is a crazy psycho who now is habitually using his daddy’s powers to be seen in public” another commentator said.

When asked why Daham Sirisena was on stage another Joint Committee Member said “even I did not know who he was. One idiot jumped on stage and shook Premier Wickremesinghe’s hand. When asked to step down he refused and remained up there. As we were busy and since the ceremony was not going to take too long we ignored him and let him be in the foreground. Only later we found out that he was President Sirisena’s son.”

“None of the committee members could sleep last night with a plethora of calls coming through demanding answers as to what Daham Siirsena was doing among such a distinguished gathering” said another disgruntled Joint Committee Member.

The guests on stage who gave away the awards comprised of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Group Chief Executive Dialog Axiata Dr.Hans Wijayasuriya, Warden S.Thomas’ College Rev. Marc Billimoria, Royal College Principal B.A. Abeyratne, S.Thomas’ College cricket captain of 1975 Mohan De Silva, Royal College cricket captain of 1969 Eardley Lieversz and Dr. Hiran Wimalaratne Co-Chairman JOC Host Royal College.

There was a time, long-long-ago, when being a Thomian or Royalist would have been synonymous with good behaviour and impeccable manners. and a wannabe-upstart-shit like the odious ‘first son of the land’ would have stood out like a sore thumb. Those days are gone. Today, even a Royal-Thomian organising committee (full off ‘big shots’) cannot ensure that ONLY the invited presentation party takes the stage. To have a shitty upstart dressed like a Pettah hawker gatecrash what should have been a celebratory presentation is convincing proof that this organising committee could NOT organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Whatever their behaviour was, they probably
always had a chip on their shoulders, swollen heads..
By the way, why do you need to denigrate Pettah hawkers
like that? Not very good manners…

I am in no way denigrating the noble Pettah hawker. What I have said is that the shitty upstart who invaded the celebratory presentation stage was dressed like one. Pettah hawkers, for all their worthy qualities, are not know as providing the benchmark for Royal-Thomian sartorial elegance. Or, have times changed?

In reply to spring koha, the standards have gone down ever since bloody sinhala only was introduced.
When english was spoken and written you sinhala idiots had to make the grade to be in these great institutions.

The focus of this article is merely on Sirisena’s son displaying his lack of understanding of common courtesy and decorum. However, The language published in the CT takes the cake. It’s breaks me to figure out why the majority have decided to grab this opportunity to tear shreds out of this great institution.

There was a time Royalist and Thomians were considered as elite in the Sri Lankan society, but not anymore. No ordinary folk get into such high class society. Although i am not condoning the action of Dham but the reaction of old boys have shown their moral high ground and reluctance of acceptance of others outside their community.

His come on stage out of total entitlement. His under the impression that his owed that privilege due to his Father been the President. Look at how his planted himself there, who and why else would anybody act like this. This is a Pinhead in the making. Maithripala is a public servant. Nothing more. This frog in the well is his son. So your a public servants Son. Don’t get your wires twisted. This is not something to boast or take pride in. In these third world countries when your voted into government, you practically considered a thief. Only a hand full based on their upbringing and personal development managed to stay unscared. The rest are a bunch of Son’s of b*****ches. Nothing to feel proud of. You are living of public money. That’s quite a low thing to be associated with.

I think most of you are missing the point. What this moron did is neither a reflection of what Royalists are or Thomians are not. It is just bad breeding. I have been a classmate of sons of Prime Ministers and other respected Cabinet Ministers, etc. Even a future Prime Minister. While all of them had good clean fun during the RT match even in and around girls’schools in Colombo, none of them would have crashed a presentation at a Royal Thomian conclusion nor tried to get some attention by doing what podi Sirisena did just because they were sons of prominent personalities. It has nothing to do with the school. Just the breeding!!!!!!

So while I understand the indignance, I feel your columnist has overreacted with totally irrelevant obscenities.

Well said Kadalay. This is what the “freedom of the wild ass” brings out. Why has the editor of the CT just overlooked this? This must be a world record in the media where for the first time “F” words have taken a prominent place in a heading and mind you there are hundreds young budding journos out there who will take this as a precedent and like the Pied Piper of Hamlin follow suit.
I humbly request the CT editor to alter the headline so that it will fit into the norms of dignified journalism and also delete the contents where “F” words are used freely in the gist. This dear Editor is self censorship for the sake of the tenderfoot journos.
Thank You Editor and the ball is now in your court.
p.s I hope the Press Commission will also make the request which they are duty bound

YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT THAT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOOD AND BAD. THE GUY SHOULDN’T GO TO THE STAGE BECAUSE HE IS NOT INVITED. IF HE WANTED TO SEE THE FUNCTION, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN A COMMON PLACE. DO YOU GO TO SOMEONE ELSE WEDDING WITH OUT AN INVITATION, YOU MAY DO BECAUSE SEEMS TO ME NOTHING MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR IDEA AND THIS FELLOW’S IDEA.
IF HE COMES TO THE POLITICS HE WILL DO MORE HARM THAN HE FATHER DOES.

There is NO difference between Merwin Silva’s son and Sirisena’s son?
As someone mentioned, their fathers were/are public servents, serving the public, using tax payers money. They steal poor people’s money for their luxuries, expensive cars and foreign tours.
We the people, All Sri Lankans should remind these idiots that they use our tax money for their luxury living.

I think there are two issues here – first is an attention seeking boy’s effort to create a sense of belonging with the big guys and the presumption just that his father’s position gives him right to be at any social event in the country – invited or otherwise. Hopefully, he will realise the more he dos this less that he will be recognised. The second, probably the most shocking is the language used by an old Royalist to express his displeasure, and perhaps a third issue – that CT chose to publish it without any censorship.
I have seen bad language been increasing used by those who comment here – probably those living overseas and who have come to Sri Lanka from overseas. I think Sri Lankan with some foreign experience mistakenly believe using such language sets them apart from the locals and display some sort of displaced superiority. However, this is a language that is used by 3rd class individuals, who are normally called ‘trailer trash’ in the developed world. Once at the airport I experienced a Sri Lankan who landed from the US showing off some dollars trashing the poor sales girls liberally using the F word due to some altercation with them. The humble girls were stunned. Rather than throwing him out, the manager was running behind trying to pacify the twerp. I am sure the wimp would not dare behaving like that in the US as he would be throwing in jail and even banned from entering shops.
All in all I think to keep this forum a respectable place I think it would be good if CT exercise a more stringent censorship policy and ask those who want to express their opprobrium to do so with more dignified language.

They played the sport Rugby for STC and later on too, they started playing rugby long before their father became PM/President, They are good players too. They have helped the sport , some schools and institutions to some extent. They never ever jumped on stage like silly daham,
So just dont go blaming the Rajapakeses for every silly thing

Oh cock a hoop Thomian I know you are smarting with that defeat at the hands of those brilliant Royalists so your frustrations are understandable.
As for the distinguished Thomians of the Rajapakse family attributing them to good rugger players is questionable. As you know no one dare give them a hard tackle fearing any consequence so when you are in that situation the path is free to score tries at your will and fancy. if that’s ‘GOOD’ rugby in your assessment then keep on dreaming.

      • 1
        0

True, true. The Rajapakse boys did play for St Thomas’ BUT remind me Senor, who once slapped a referee? That is the biggest crime a sportsman could commit. That was not something that a real Thomian would do. The times they have been a-changing.

It seems that the Royal college has gone to the dogs. It is not just the act of the President’s son. Even worse is the language used by the so called ex-Royalists. The language of some of the commentators here who are presumably Royalists too shows the lack of class of all and sundry. They all need to look in the mirror and think about their own upbringing. This Daham fellow seems to quite fit the rest of the Royal crowd. I never hear so much filth unless I go near some white trailer trash living in a camp site. All royalists seem to need a basic lesson in civilization.

Without criticizing Royal promote the idea of other schools coming up the standard set by Royal. It is a model school where all communities school themselves in complete harmony. In recent times members of the minority communites in the school have led their alma mater to glorius victories. There is weakness in a section of Sri Lankans a “dog in the manger”attitude that when they cannot achieve the greatness just bring the other guy down to your lvel. Royal has a great tradition of over 175 years and what ever the critis say this hallowed institution will be a model school for other schools to emulate. FLOREAT may it flourish

Personally I do not think this sort of behavior is seen in Developed countries. Honestly I believe we are only doing Daham a disfavor by condoning his act and such behavior is simply a hallmark of people who do not have any aim in life and still wants to thrive under their parent’s wings.

Remember Daham is a fully grown and mature adult and by now he should have the pride standing on his feet and desist being called ‘father’s son’. He should really avoid being seen with the father, and cultivate an image for himself. He is by all means a spoilt ‘child’, with no real aim in life, so resorting to various attention seeking exercises such as what was seen at the 137th Royal / Thomian awards ceremony. Had he been asked to leave and that might have shaken and woken him up. But unfortunately nothing of the sort happened, and he will learn only when everything has collapsed around him.

He has no educational qualification his only education was while at school, not sure whether he came to the Advanced Level. I believe he did not receive any diploma training in any field so not really employable at a staff level grade. This is the basic psychology behind what he did! An attention seeking exercise and tolerating such attitudes by people who care for him will only destroy him in the end! Again the best thing that could have happened was he would have been firmly asked to leave; if he had refused then the security would have been called in to drag him away like what would have happened to anyone else. I am sure he will resort to the same type of behavior till this Government collapses and then he will find himself lost probably end up in the same plight as Rajapakse’s children (possibly Rajapakse has robbed enough for their children to survive without depending on any employment!).

If my memory serves me right he was involved in assaulting a police some time back when his father was a Minister under the former President. I am sure his father will find lot of trouble in settling him in life and have to find that amount of money to able to live without a proper gainful employment. I do not think he will be a successful politician and he should be out rightly rejected.

In that way I respect Chandrika Kumaratunge’s children, possibly because they are of a different class, educated from a good school in Colombo and not in an outstation but bearing the name of a popular school in Colombo and you know what I mean! cheers

I agree with everything you have said, but not about Rajapaksa stealing money. Don’t think and assume stuff you don’t know. Btw, don’t try to compare Sirisena CBK sons with them. I have known the last Rajapaksa boy very well and he was a very down to earth student and he did so much work for the college and country. He’s doing his 2nd Doctorate now and he has got his bachelor and masters degree from one of the most prestigious institutes in the world. Don’t try to drag them to your level bcz of your jealousy or whatever and bring bad name to the person who saved our motherland, gave hope for people to live in peace, made Sri Lanka (Colombo) one of the the most beautiful and fastest growing economy, etc till everything ended bcz of uneducated people who voted MS or RW for their personal benefit or just bcz they knew CBK.

The small shit, fake astronaut would have bought his degrees just like the two elder brothers and the father. There is no smart genes in them. It is a known fact even among the relatives. Thats why they are so jealous of Nirupama’s family.

They are a bloody disgrace to the hardworking youngsters in this Sri Lanka ! They deprived so many by their corrupt actions.

That entire family will suffer for their sins…. I know there are many families who curse them day and night !

This entitlist mind set is what’s exposed here. This boy has no business invading the podium so for him to see the need to walk up, shake everyone’s hand and stick around shows us how full he is of himself.

This is a common phenomenon here with these political families children. Remember how Namal, his brothers, Malaka etc behaved so unruly, arrogantly during the rule of their families. So it’s obvious that they took advantage of their father been in power to abuse that power for self gain.

Why aren’t they acting up now?. Where are all those flashy cars that Namal and Yoshitha were always seen around Colombo in?. Why did everything come to a hault?. Abuse of power!!!. Why isn’t Malaka going to the clubs and insulting Women anymore?. Why isn’t he going to the clubs and dragging others girl friends and wives from their boy friends and husbands?. Each one of them thought they were Lord because their daddy’s were in power?. So what are we to say about the parenting and guidance they received?. What are we to say about children’s of political families?.

When 8 out of 10 politicians are thives coming into power, getting voted I to power only to ransack the country dry, what are we to expect from their children. I know many facts of what Namal has done simply using his power to monetarily benefit, is that what we are to expect from politicians and their families?.

I know everyone is looking for a head start but is that how you want to accumulate fame and wealth?. The country has been sucked dry, do you feel rich now?. The forces of nature won’t support this behaviour, it’s a matter of time before everyone who took what didn’t belong to them, everyone used and abused their power to benefit them and the people connected to them to face their reality. I hope everyone is ready to face the backlash.

Moving forward the common voter has to wise up. There are people who still believe that everything is made up to simply get Rajapakse out of power so this kind of thinking demonstrates how illiterate and ignorant the people of our country our.

This lunatic should have been thrown out of the stage by the organisers. His dad (APPA SIRA) will give an excuse like he gave when he took this guy to the UN assembly. This truly and clearly shows the upbringing of this child. How do you expect MS to run a country when he has miserably failed in up bringing his family?

It’s civil on the part of the organizing committee to just ignore, this nobody,
Who is trying to find his way in the world with reflected glory.
Salute for handling this as gentlemen.
We are proud of the Joc .

Alternative of Kicking the guy out would have been much worse, as the press
Would have gone to town, with all the thuggish tales of how elite school students/old boys behave.

This is a non issue, no point making a issue when there are other pressing issues to deal with.

I am neither a Royalist nor a Thomian but it is simply beyond me to understand why anyone with even little bit of brain would think it is okay to do what Daham did in this instance. So let’s forget about the a phrase used by CT to describe Daham’s action and agree that his action was nothing but shameless. Hats off to the organizers for not getting him thrown off the stage. When parents think it is okay for their children to sit with the State delegation at international events it is not surprising for kids to think that it is their God given right to barge in to any place uninvited. God help mother Lanka.

ii)The language used in title will even make The Sun (UK tabloid) blush!,CT should ensure that crude language should be edited out in the articles published if not CT will be = some trashy rag sheet/website like Lankaweb

Bad language by the commentators to this article should have been edited out, as has been the practice of all respected journals.
The committee and security services should have had the guts to throw out anyone who was not invited on to the stage, at least for security reasons. I wonder whether the younger Sirisena has the weakness of his daddy, wanting desperately to be worshipped as a “great leader”.

154 people, including myself , have made negative comments against the young man Daham, but no one paused for a while to think whether he has
a health problem, which can be treated only by showing extreme kindness.
I think PM Ranil knew the problem and that could have been the reason he did not flare up, when Daham appeared on the “Royal” stage.

President is a level headed man and he would not have taken his son to UN, if he could have avoided such a request from his son. If he paid the airfare from his own pocket for his son’s ticket, there should be no further questions on this matter.Only people in the West have access
to medical journals and they learn various types of diseases the adults
get and its mostly related to stress & leading solitary life and Daham’s behaviour is nothing new and strange.

So folks, its time to close the file on this case.
