David Cameron Presses For Sri Lanka War Crimes Inquiry

David Cameron has said an international inquiry into allegations of war crimes in Sri Lanka may be needed, as he prepares to attend a Commonwealth summit there, the Guardian report.

David Cameron

According to the newspaper, the UK prime minister has previously said Sri Lanka’s controversial government needs to hold an independent investigation, but has now turned up the rhetoric by calling for an inquiry with international oversight if the country does not order its own review.

The prime minister will be the first leader to visit the war-ravaged north of Sri Lanka since the country’s independence in 1948, where he will meet people directly affected by the 25-year civil war, which ended in 2009 after the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

The World is a stage and all these buggers are Actors.

It is no wonder the West pamper these Corrupt despots ruling here with shows as the CHOGM because all these Rogues deposit their booty in Banks in the West and when they die the wealth belongs to them. So the West allow these Rogues to rob their Nations freely, even if they commit War Crimes as they are assured of their Aid plus interest to revert back to them.

“David Cameron Presses For Sri Lanka War Crimes Inquiry”

Yes, he should, so says one of his MPs.

        Martin Vickers, Conservative MP, UK:

Clearly there has been genocide taken place in Sri Lanka and the International Community needs to take the issue much more seriously and investigations should take place.

Source a video clip in English, above is a transcript by me from:

        Jansee ,

stakes are way too high for an international inquiry , list is starting from very top i.e Ban K Moon, Vijay N , Sonia G, MMS, Narayen , R Blake et al .

You are right and he is also discussing with Karu.
My gut feeling is that they plan to make Lanka another Saudi in the ME.
The Yankees need Chinese money to fight China and RM has done the needful in infrastructure for US arrival as India bluntly refused to cooperate with US & Panetta. It has only made India and China get very close in 28 years by Singh signing 10 agreements even on border disputes. The next only super power IndoChino with the economic backup and russian technical push.

      Abhaya:

“Can you arrange one on Afghanistan as well ?”

Why not you clean up your own house first? Instead of sinking deeper and deeper into the pit, ask your president the most sensible thing – go for a credible independent international investigation – tell the truth and shame the devil. If SL has nothing to hide, then this would be the best option. The investigation should include both the SL regime and the LTTE. Why should innocent Sinhalese and Tamils be drawn into a protracted affair when the scums are roaming free?

He is a hypocrite. They have killed more people in Afghanistan than people killed in SL war.

In SL war only Tamil terrorists died. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I appreciate this guy, David Cameron wanting to press our self appointed “King” on crimes in Sri Lanka etc.

However, much better if Cameron could set an example.

Cameron, walk the talk please. Put ex PM of UK, Tony Blair in the docks for starters.

In other words, please do press yourself first. I would then take you seriously.

PS: We know you are under serious pressure from the covert LTTE lobby in London. We do sympathize with your situation. If you need a shoulder to cry on, please call Manmohan in New Delhi.

    Cheers!

It’s a British Blunder ! If Britain is the Cause of the Problem, better be part of the Solution: Cameron should realise that his predecessors in the Westminster were responsible for the discrimination of the minorities by the majority Sinhalese; which led to the 26 year war.
In India, the lands and the provincial governance were returned to the indigenous people of the regions; like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, even the creation of Pakistan.
This was not carried out in Ceylon. Britain was in a hurry, tired after the WWII and didn’t listen to the fears expressed by the Ceylonese minority communities.
Britain, unified the whole island into one country and gave the governance of the whole island to the majority 74%, without any protection to the 26% of indigenous minority who owned 1/3 rd of lands of the island, for thousands of years.
In fact, Britain took over the Tamil States and served it on a plate to the Majority against the will of the minorities in 1948. This brought about the discrimination as the successive Governments enacted constitutional Protection to the majority Sinhalese and to Buddhism; instead of constitutional Protection to the minorities. Contrary to the civilised norm of the Common Wealth.
Since Independence, whenever the Minorities appealed for Parity; Terror, Loot, Arson and Rape unleashed upon the defenceless Sri Lankans living amongst the Sinhalese which culminated in the ‘Terrorist Training Camps’ mushrooming around the Sri Lankan Refugee Camps in South India in 1983.
There are over 130,000 Sri Lankan Refugees, still being fed and looked after by India for the last 30 years, strong enough to wage another war if they are not repatriated to their Mother Land.
Hence Britain is totally responsible for the plight of the minorities which culminated in the Killing Fields. Hence Britain should own up and rectify the situation for the minorities.

Hope all those 53 state leaders would do the same on lanken regime asking for an international investigation on war crimes. And they should also address current situation (lawlessness in the country EVEN after war against tamil rebells is no longer there). In the aftermath of war end, they are still white van incidents, assuaults, rapes, murders.. to the ascending manner. Why ? Why the magical Rajapakshes cant control them if they dare to say that they are an example to have won a war against militia groups. Today what the majority folks ( minority tamils and majority sinhalese)are not better.

The army reportedly has investigated itself and found that no human rights violations had been committed.
Hence only an international investigation will reveal the truth.

      WHAT WAS THE MANDATE ?

Else, why have orgasms unlesS it stirs them deeply that at last e real probe wilL PROVE THEIR ALLEGATIONS. ON THE FLIP SIDE, IF THE ALLEGATIONS ARE BULLDUST, SHOULD IT NOT BE MR & CO WHO SHOULD BE HAVING MULTIPLE ORGASMS BECAUSE SUCH A PROBE WILL PROVE THEIR DENIALS ?

The Government of Sri Lanka should have appointed an independent group of persons such as those appointed to the LLRC to inquire in to these allegations without allowing it to fester. C R de Silva, the Chairman of LLRC died few days ago, but there are plenty of people with the required stature to conduct an inquiry.

    • 0

      Truth,

Do you seriously believe that C.R. De Silva type are honest and credible to be appointed to conduct an Independent Inquiry? You are sadly mistaken. I know all these people personally on both sides of the divide. Believe me, the fingers on my one hand is too many to count the number who will qualify to be above board to act with impartiality and without fear. This is the sad reality although there are many with high profiles parading as paragons of virtue.

Not sure who advised President Rajapakse to hold the CHOGM in Colombo.
Forgetting the huge amount of tax payers money being spent on this totally unnecessary conference, MR is going to be on the spotlight for the next two years as Head of CHOGM in respect of Commonwealth values on governance, rule of law and humanitarian issues.
Its already bad enough with the UN every 6 months with resolutions passed against SL, now we have to put up with Commonwealth Values the next 2 years.
Already there are calls for MR (as Chair) not to attend the Commonwealth Games in Scotland which may blight the Games if he attends etc.

MR seems to be shooting himself in the foot at every turn.

While David Cameron is talking about inquiries with president Rajapaksa, perhaps the Sri Lankan president can raise the issue of the long delayed report from the Chilcot Inquiry into the background to the UK/USA invasion of Iraq. For the British newspaper The Observer reports that the UK government is witholding evidence and the report is delayed yet again:
    http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/nov/10/iraq-war-tony-blair-george-bush

I’m sure the British public would be thankful to Rajapaksa if he did demand, on behalf of openness and transparency, that the UK government release the secret evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry. This is especially true as many British politicians seem to be more concerned with telling other countries had to run their affairs rather than dealing with injustices in their own country.

Or perhaps David Cameron is really going to advise Rajapaksa about how to pretend to set up an independent inquiry while at the same time carrying on as before. That inquiry would then help Cameron get those pesky Tamil Tiger refugees in the UK off his back and perhaps discourage them from telling their fellow Tamil-British voters to support Labour at the next election.

Kamlesh Sharma, the unsolicited Counsel of the Rajapakse regime, has already done his job here. He has craftily suggested a Committee to
go into allegations of Torture and that its findings should be submitted to a relevant Parliamentary Committee. Pity Sharma was not
around after WW2. He would have recommended his gem to the Nazis to
    investigate themselves.

Dear Hon. Prime Minister David Cameron,

“David Cameron has said an international inquiry into allegations of war crimes in Sri Lanka may be needed, as he prepares to attend a Commonwealth summit there, the Guardian report.”

Bravo!. Thank you for your guts to call a spade a spade and calling for an international inquiry to see if it was a spade or a stick. in Sri Lanka.

Please have more guts. Please also extend this courtesy to India, to cover the Kashmir region as well. That way you will will not be accused of following commonwealth Double Standards.

Let us stick to the commonwealth for now.
