Sri Lanka’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Dr Dayan Jayatilleka is to be appointed as the Ambassador to Russia, Colombo Telegraph learns.
President Maithripala Sirisena has made this decision to which Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has not objected.
Dr Jayatilleka was a strong confidante of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and has of late backed a probable presidential bid by Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Dr Jayatilleka, when contacted by Colombo Telegraph on this, said ‘As of now I am not aware of it.’

Only last week DJ wrote “Taken together the Pohottuwa (JO+SLPP) and the SLFP can win any election, notwithstanding the minority vote. (40%+14%)”
This is the most insulting proposal anybody could make. MR/JO refused anything to do with Yahapalanaya, denying any ministerial portfolios/financial rewards and decided to sit in the Opposition in 2015. They underwent immense troubles, subjected to political witch-hunt and faced slander for 3 years but Maithree or Ranil couldn’t change their principles. Dayan’s proposal was a callous disregard for public opinion who want to see Yahapalanaya traitors in the political dustbin.
I think the old game has begun. First Maithree tried to dilute the quality of the JO by adding Orphans-16, 4 of whom are losers who came through the National List. Dayasiri’s case is a prime example. When he was with Maithree, there was no allegation. He let Dayasiri to plug with JO, then have a private meeting between Orphans-16 and MR, and pronto, the 1 million story came to the surface. The harm I believe was intended for JO, but it stayed with Dayasiri having no damage to JO as people hold MR and JO in high regard despite minor hiccups. I hail their attempt to deny 2/3 to Ranil with the help of Orphans-16, but in the public eye, they are nonentity.
Second part could be diluting the support base by offering various positions, rewards, perks to professionals in MR’s side. It is no secret that Maithree is in favour of Gotabhaya not to mention whose economic policy is also in line with Yahapalanaya. MR should be happy to get this rare chance to test the loyalty of his supporters. He didn’t have this “privilege” run up to the last Presidential Election.

Lankawe Complained Russia falsely reported that there were bugs in the tea exported, but Lankawe insisted it was rice bugs so it was not Lankawe bugs. Health Ministers, last few terms, notoriously inferior in health knowledge. Like all other ministries, it was commission managed too. New King said as he knows Health Ministry was the worst Ministry in his time. Kidney disease may relate to commission management also and if so getting real cause is difficult. Thero left French embassy on his accord and no further assignments were given to him until now. There was speculation, but not specific media report his performance at UNHRC was not to the expectation of the Old Royals.
