Dayan The Oracle Calls Ranil A “Curse”

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

“…..these are only some of the few seen and unseen development outcomes under the leadership of Sirisena and Wickremesinghe. Wickremesinghe’s entire focus is on economics, whereas your buddies MR and Gota, had no clue on the  subject. Your favourites led one of the most corrupt  and dictatorial regimes in the history of Sri Lanka. Ordinary pedestrians holding onto their ‘siri siri’ plastic shopping bags had to turn their miserable arses and hold onto the nearest wall when Gota and other VIPs  used to hover about in Colombo. You want to see these guys substituting for the current yahapalanaya government? You must be crazy, man!”

Dayan Jayatilleka (DJ) hallucinates being an oracle. Like the famous oracle of Delphi in ancient Greece? People in ancient Athens used to listen intently to that oracle when he makes utterances and predictions from time to time. The oracle, then, was the signal for public belief. In Dayan’s case, despite his incurable over-assessment of himself, discerning readers are increasingly looking at the man as a fool. Not a simple, naive, fool but an intrepid one who is mindlessly writing his two cents.  Every paragraph in his latest foray in Colombo Telegraph (under the caption, “Ranil the Curse and Mahindagamanaya 3 and Gota)  is false, sickly and vulnerable.

Dayan Jayatilleka and Rajiva Wijesinha

One commentator tries to compare DJ with Rajiva Wijesinha. I think that is a disservice to Rajiva who is a man of class and who is utterly civil and decent-although I have disagreed with the latter, too, recently. That is a different matter. The point is, Rajiva Wijesinha is in so many ways above DJ. First, he never uses rude and impolite language when criticising those whom he disagrees with. In a comment dated 16/1/18 on one of my articles at Colombo Telegraph this man described me as a “scumbag.” Mind you, in my piece I never referred to DJ overtly or covertly since I do not treat him as a significant opinion writer  anymore. DJ refers to Prime Minister  Ranil Wickremesinghe as “a knave.” Now, Rajiva did criticise his cousin, Ranil, with whom he is in bad terms; but he dis that at the level of a true intellectual. Nothing vulgar and nothing even derogatory. That’s what a gentleman is. In my response I did credit Rajiva for that.

DJ’s ‘Curse’

Besides, Ranil Wickremesinghe (RW) is not only the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. At base, his is the leader of the largest political party in Sri Lanka. Has been Prime Minister four times. He won a Parliamentary seat this time seat gaining over five lakhs of votes in Sri Lanka’s most educated and modernised electorate. He Is the one political leader in our country today who can confidently and on par face international personages such as the British Prime Minister or the Federal German Chancellor. I cannot see any other political leader in our island today who can do that. We had persons like Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayake but they are gone. I cannot see any other political leader today who has such a grasp of economic, social or political policy. Friend or foe (not the DJ foe) must admit that. When, recently, Ranil addressed the respected and learned body of lawyers here in Melbourne he gave such a brilliant and erudite speech that one of the senior political leaders commented to me, “you should be proud to have a Prime Minister like that!” The problem is that RW does not go boasting. He is to himself-considered and deliberate and often inarticulate. That is, perhaps, a fragility.

Now, I must emphasize that I am not a fan of RW. I stand always to defend those unfairly attacked, when there is nobody to do that. I write with verification and I have given the evidence in this instance, above. I don’t need to be a sycophant of any political leader, RW or any other, for the simple reason that I have absolutely nil ambitions in Sri Lanka. I met and spoke to Ranil for the very first time in my life when he came to Geelong, Melbourne. Of course, he knew about me because of my profile in the Public Service and in my role in the cultural scenario of Sri Lanka.

India’s Hold

Now, DJ slashes Ranil for giving India a foothold in the deep South. The Rajapaksa regime had planned to give that strategic base to China. Is that any better? China has big- power ambitions and so they would have been far more dangerous. Besides, China has already been given the dominant strategic hold in Sri Lanka by the previous government that DJ wishes to get back. Due to huge debts given at commercial rates, we are already a virtual vassal state of China-unable to extricate ourselves of that embedded dependence. We failed to negotiate our way out and to our advantage over the Port City Project. China is close to being our new colonial power, if one goes by contemporary forms of colonialism. Our great neighbour was getting too  nervous and had to be placated somewhat. This is  geopolitical balance in foreign policy. Sri Lanka cannot frighten its neighbour. JR did that once and we got into trouble as India started training the LTTE cadres in their soil.

Besides, Sri Lanka had an unmanageable debt on the Harbour Project and there was no way of earning revenue  for repaying that debt. Hence, the government hit upon the brilliant idea of selling equity on a joint basis on that harbour project. Our huge debts are now diminishing. The IMF recently commented favourable on our debt management and fiscal management, which had taken the country to bankruptcy under DJ’s favourite government.

Indeed, DJ, Ranil is a curse to you as you cannot get rid of him. In a more serious way, he is a curse to all the Rajapaksas because he is the king pin behind this government. If he falls, the government falls. So, keep trying to bring him down. That is the logic of the Opposition and that is how they politicised the Bond issue against Ranil.

Achievements

See how his yahapalanaya outfit has already achieved  so much. Like me to show you? Then open your eyes without reluctance or blink. Take your hatred out and try a bit of ‘upekka.’ Democracy is restored. People are seen freely protesting without being hammered by mafia and thugs with iron bars or shot by the soldiers as in Rathupaswela, when villagers protested asking for water. The evil men of murder whom your pet, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is said to have developed  as a secret force in Colombo are not to be seen. Editors of newspapers have not been murdered on the streets and they roam free while ruthlessly attacking the government with their newly-won freedom. No white vans tapping the doors of journalists in the dead of the night and taking the latter away-leaving behind whole families crying, wailing, and weeping! No add to this all, court is not conducted in Temple Trees anymore. We have an outstandingly impeccable Chief Justice. We have the Freedom of Information Act in force. We have Independent Commissions in action. Our exports have recorded an increase after so many years. Road and rail infrastructure  is coming up. Colombo City will soon have a new road network. Sri Lanka is friendly with all foreign countries.

Under your favourite regime the people were enslaved; only the Rajapaksas were free.

Your Excellency DJ, these are only some of the few – seen and unseen – development outcomes under the leadership of Sirisena and Wickremasinghe. Wickremasinghe’s entire focus is on economics, whereas your buddies MR and Gota, had no clue on the  subject. You must be crazy, man!

Let’s wait for Feb 10th or rather, Feb 11th, shall we?

Either President Sirisena gets rid of RW before the next presidential election, as Chandrika did in 2003. Or we launch Gota 2019 and watch an enjoyable end to this whole farce: GR versus RW in a Presidential race.

    Deal?

PS. I didn’t know China was our next door neighbor and had Tamil nadu within it…:)))

Can GR contest in local elections? I mean with his dual citizenship?

He is not a dual citizen of Sri Lanka & the USA. He just has a permit for residence in the USA (a ‘Green Card’).

Dayan the most abusive mouth piece no second to that of Wimal buruwanshe should be taken away from lanken soceity if it is to be led to success.
He has a grudge on RW from that day on.
Ballige putha should know just becasuse he is no offered any kind of posts by the current duo, he must not lick the balls of Rajapakshe.
What has the man done to this country than being part of highly abusive men such Rajapakshe? These men are condom supporters to Rajapakshe clan.

It is good to go for investgation of bond scam, then avan garde and other high crimes woud nt be able to keep away from inveistgation. We need to see it that way.
RW himself did not do a mistake, by introducing new methods, it came into being, but Rajapkashe killed people deliberately for their survival… none of them can be given life again… please folks think twice before listening tohis bugger DJ. .

I understand the Green Card automatically lapses if the holder discontinued regular continuous US residence for a period of time.
That rule could apply in GR’s case.
There could then be no objection for him to contest in local or general elections.
That could be the reason for DJ’s cockiness for Gota on Feb.10/11th 2018 or 2019 respectively.
Will someone be able to throw more light on this subject?

The biggest curse of the country today – and for some time – is the lack of a leader in the UNP who can win a presidential election on his own right. A leader in the vein of JR or Premadsa (I’m no fan of either; just examples.)

But in fairness to Ranil – let’s be honest here; if we can – Mahinda bribed Prabakaran to win in 05. And he got sacked by CBK …..whenever (can’t remember the year.)

Ranil’s greatest handicap is, he has very little leadership qualities; zilch ………. nothing wrong, some are leaders some are not; just that. In that sense, Ranil is somewhat responsible for the 20 year long mess in the country – even for some of the Rajapakse excesses. His inability to marshal a credible bulwark against Rajapakse misrule, corruption, nepotism, murder (feel free to add :)) ………..and wishy-washy-ing and protecting the culprits – including the Rajapakses – once in power ……..a JR or a Premadasa or even the Rajapakses would have gone after the crooks – crooks see other crooks with clear vision; it’s themselves they have trouble seeing – with all guns ablaze………..

Ultimately cowards pay the prize for their cowardice.

In Lankan terms Ranil is a class-act :)) – some will hoot and holler – but compare him to any other current politician; anyone wanna try? :)) Whom do you want to compare him against? Any names? I’m really curious here …… would someone venture out to throw in even a single name? ……….. or is it going to be the good ol’ eternal silence?

The same people who say Ranil should have left (he should have quit in 05 after the loss and gone in to retirement; he did and came back. I think) like the leaders in western countries …………don’t say the same to Mahinda…….Well, Lankans will always be Lankan……it’s a great sport to watch them from afar ……….now that the birds have gone into hibernation for winter……………..

          Nimal Fernando,

Let’s compare him with Mahinda. Why looking for someone else. What kind of class does Ranil posses? I am very curious to know.

Ranil had lost more than 30 elections now. He had been the leader of opposition for almost 20 years except for 2 years of his premiership. Where as Mahinda has only lost 2 consecutive elections both of which he has narrowly missed and poised to win again in the upcoming election.

Ranil has never won any election which he has contested alone and the times he had won, he was with some form of coalition.

Isn’t it enough to say “Ranil please bugger off?”

          • 5

Thanks for the attempt …….I thought it’ll be nothing but silence.

“What kind of class does Ranil posses? I am very curious to know.”
Many Lankans may not realise this,……… there is freedom in the country unlike before …….to bring freedom to a country one has to have class ………99.99% of Lankan leaders will try to stifle peoples’ freedom like many leaders have done before ….I know you may not agree but for a Lankan that’s rare class – or should I say pure class! :))

You have just dwelled on elections ………many people have won landslides in the past, look what they have achieved! That’s not an indication of what a person can contribute to the country……….. now Ranil is in office we have to deal with what we have …….so let us examine the alternatives ………what they bring to the table………

Can you please elaborate with specific examples or specific abilities (other than winning elections – lets concentrate on what each person can do when in office) that Mahinda possess/possessed to move the country in to the modern world. Let’s keep insults and personal likes/dislikes away – if we can :)) – and have a honest discussion about each man’s capabilities to move the country forward into the 21st century ………..

            We might all learn something……..

              Nimal Fernando,

What kind of freedom are you talking about? The situation is just as it was before under Mahinda’s time. Only difference is that many news papers don’t bash the government as often as it did under Mahinda’s time. The actual freedom was brought to the country by Mahinda. I don’t know what kind of drug you have take to be this delusional.

So under your opinion what are the indications that shows a person is contributing to the country? Specially a politician.

Mahinda atleast know the ground reality to start. He understand the needs of the grass root level people. That is what I think should be the basis of any government policy. The Colombo 7 “Lansi Papol” types needs are too irrational to begin with. Moreover, being invited to the ceremonies organized by Western people are not an good indication of any kind class. We need to understand the fact that there is a political element in all of these ceremonies and it doesn’t represent any pomp or class. A country’s leader should represent it’s people. He should not try to imitate some other country just to become classy. Other country only recognizes the quality of the leadership overtly or covertly not how one dresses or how one talks fluently in English.

“What kind of freedom are you talking about? The situation is just as it was before under Mahinda’s time.”

Any Lankan adult who can think rationally and straight will know the validity of this statement ………….

What I do is ask questions and let people/Lankans expose how they think and how “delusional” :)) they are…………I don’t have to even reply because any unbiased/impartial rational adult who reads what you have written will know why SL is in this mess and why it has been so for the last 70 years…….

So, for my reply ………step back and read again what you have written ………….:))) ……and I’ll request others to do the same and judge for themselves :))

You are not alone …….there are many Lankans who think like you and as a society that’s what we have to deal with ……….

When people are born into a society and have to act collectively in a social context they are nothing but prisoners of that society………that’s a curse for many rational straight-thinking Lankans………………

                Please, I don’t resort to insults ………….because I don’t have to! :))

“I didn’t know China was our next door neighbor and had Tamil nadu within it…:)))”

You didn’t know many things however it didn’t stop you from typing.
Is that why you spent considerable time in Tamil Nadu to confirm China is indeed not our next door neighbour? You could have confirmed it by looking at world map with “Tamil Nadu in it”.

By the way you once typed that you were in India on a clandestine work in the 1980s. Who was in his/her right mind would have hired you to work clandestinely in Tamil Nadu?

My next door neighbours’ children love reading Walter Mitty stories. I too was initiated into the world of Walter Mitty. I love it.

      DJ,
RW has many short-comings. I am a disgruntled Yahapalanaya voter. Yet, given our only options are either RW or GR, I would go for RW even now. GR is a FRAUD. A blood-thirsty, uneducated FASCIST. A coward who ran away from the war. However, I give it to you, cunning Rajapassa clan has built themselves a fake image as saviors of our religion and race. Stupid voters in conservative, rural Sri Lankan hinterland are still bamboozled by criminal Rajapassa clan magic. You have helped those criminals build that image. You may be handsomely rewarded in the future for your your services. But, how do you sleep at night? No urge to throw up?
      Cheers!

      Shyamon Jayasinghe

While we are in ancient Athens I am reminded of Athenian City State Democracy where voting rights were limited to a few. Many didn’t get to vote in the elections due to ancient Athenian election rules. The non-citizens women, children, slaves, freed slaves, foreigners and children of foreigners did not have the right to vote.

What this windbag typed just after the elections of January 2015 was mind boggling. Please read his typing which is self explanatory:

“So Mahinda Rajapaksa indubitably won the majority of the majority of the island’s citizens: 55% of 70%. He lost. The winner failed to win a majority of the majority. He won. To a great many, this structural asymmetry makes the mandate look and feel like a doughnut.”

I thought I was living in Athenian times where Aristotle (384 -322 BC) was concerned about the conditions that promote, sustain, and threaten democracy as a form of government. He preferred democratic flourishing to aristocracy, oligarchy, or tyranny. Aristotle believed Democracy was most
capable of approximating conditions of justice though it was imperfect.

Here comes the public racist who in essence said since the majority of the majority the Sinhala/Buddhist voted for Mahinda and Sirisena didn’t receive majority of the majority votes, the election victory of Sirisena was invalid or hollow.

Like in the good old Athenian city state democracy, Dayan the war monger could campaign for limited citizenship rights to the minority, say introducing another 1948 citizenship act.

I am sorry if I have dropped names.

Percy the Tamilised recent Tamil Nadu kallathoni Karawa descendant, Veddhas are the rightful owners of Srilanka, not you, and they have every right to call Sinhalese who have usurped their lands as racists. Sinhalese are not the first immigrants either as proved in recent archaeological findings. First language to be spoken in Srilanka is Tamil and not Sinhala and first religion to be practiced in Srilanka is Saivaism and not Buddhism. Therefore the claim of Sinhalese that they are the sole owners and rulers of entire Srilanka thereby denying Tamils their share of land and power, amounts to racism. It is people like you who should not enter CT columns.

          • 2
            5

What findings help you to understand that the first language spoken was Tamil an the first religion was Sivaism? Can you enlighten us?

            • 2
              0

Language – It is the view of linguists in the world that at one time everyone in the world spoke either Tamil or some form of it. Srilanka is not an exception to this, as Elu is a Dravidian language and considered as proto-Tamil. Sinhala language evolved in 7th century AD from Tamil and Sanskrit similar to the way Malayalam evolved. Since Sinhala took Malayalam script, Malayalam is older than Sinhala. The oldest stone inscription in Sinhala found dates to 7th century AD which corroborates with this. In contrast 2000 year old Tamil stone inscriptions have been discovered in various places in Srilanka.
Religion – Worship of Murugan a Saiva God originated in Tamil Nadu and since Veddhas the original people in Srilanka worship Murugan, Saivaism had been the first religion to be practiced in Srilanka. There are several Saiva temples in Srilanka which are pre-Buddhist : Koneswaram in Trincomalee, Ketheeswaram in Mannar, Naguleswaram in Keerimalai, Munneswaram in Chilaw, Thondeeswaram in Dondra and Kadirgamam. Thondeeswaram was discovered in 1998 by chance, and will never be resurrected as a Buddhist Vihare has been built over it. Also Isurumuniya is a Hindu temple which has been converted into a Buddhist one (Isuru means Siva) proves the point.
Civilisation – We have been told that Srilanka was an uncivilised country and it is only after the arrival of Vijaya and his gang 2500 years ago that it was civilised. With the discovery of a 10,000 year old civilisation in Settikulam similar to those found in Tamil Nadu, this has been rubbished. If extensive archaeological survey is done using modern instruments, all Sinhala racist propaganda about ancient history of Srilanka will be blown off. Genetically all Sinhalese are Dravidians with Bengali and Veddha input similar to Tamils.

          • 1
            0

Sankaralingam are you re writing history here? So you say that the country belongs to the veddah.OK then what the bloody hell are you communalists talking of traditional homelands of the Tamils? The land belongs to the Veddah. Fullstop. BTW the first language in SL Tamil? Where did you pick up that bullshit?certainly not from history books.has any body in the world claimed that. You are creating records here you dumbwit.

            • 0
              0

You Sinhalised Karawa Tamil Nadu recent immigrant, since the land belongs to Veddhas, Sinhalese have no right to rule the land. Full stop. Hand over power to Veddhas and be their servants. Concept of traditional homelands of Tamils arose because of the claim of Sinhala racists for the entire island. How can Sinhalese rule the entire land when there is no archaeological evidence of presence of Sinhalese in some parts of the country and evidence of Sinhala presence in other parts only since 7th century AD. Tamil stone inscriptions have been unearthed dating back to 2000 years ago, which proves that Tamil was used in Srilanka before the evolution of Sinhala. If archaeological survey is conducted extensively, it will prove Sinhala claims as rubbish. Problem is Sinhala government will never embark on it as it is detrimental to entrenched position of Sinhalese as sole owners and rulers of the entire island. Genetic studies have disproved the Aryan nonsense, and the core genetic material in Sinhalese is South Indian. Since at one stage all Dravidians spoke Tamil, it is the same for ancestors of present day Sinhalese who also spoke Tamil. It is the Buddhist priests who were kicked out from South India, who have made up these stories about Sinhalese, which idiots like you still believe.

                Sankara
You are writing a fictionalised version of Sri Lankan history. There is enough archaeological evidence of Sinhalese occupying Jaffna long before Tamils came from South India. If you refer the Ceylon Literary Register and the Journal of the Cey Br of RAS there are many articles on Sinhalese place names in Jaffna and of pre Tamil settlements. So Iadvise you to research your facts before making outrageous statements here.Which genetic study established that Sinhalesegenetic origins are in South India,? You are fabricating facts and if you are a genuine medical practitioner It reflects badly on your professional competence as well.

I am sorry I didn’t realise you would find Aristotle too difficult.

Here is a story for you:
          Little Red Riding Hood
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived in a village near the forest. Whenever she went out, the little girl wore a red riding cloak, so everyone in the village called her Little Red Riding Hood.

One morning, Little Red Riding Hood asked her mother if she could go to visit her grandmother as it had been awhile since they’d seen each other.

“That’s a good idea,” her mother said. So they packed a nice basket for Little Red Riding Hood to take to her grandmother.

When the basket was ready, the little girl put on her red cloak and kissed her mother goodbye.

“Remember, go straight to Grandma’s house,” her mother cautioned. “Don’t dawdle along the way and please don’t talk to strangers! The woods are dangerous.”

          To be continued.

It could actually help the Tamils as the international community will look at the issue quite different than if Ranil or My3 is in that office.

      1

Dayan, did you hear about an unofficial opinion poll regarding Feb 10th elections. If that is correct, UNP will come first with MR faction second and MS faction third. This means MS has no chance of going for a second term or if worse, continuing the rest of his present term. MS has acted foolishly ditching those who elected him, taking for granted that most who voted for him will remain with him and thinking that if he goes behind SLFP, then he is assured of consolidating his position. MR is not a person who forgets and forgives. As far as MR goes, MS has betrayed him and deserves to be given the works. MS is not going to get any Tamil or Muslim votes as he has let them down. So the next contest for Presidency will be between RW and Gota, and the result will be how the Sinhala votes are going to be split among them.
It is your stupidity to deny that China is our next door neighbour. 20 hectares of land in Port City has been sold in perpetuity to China, and by this they become our closest neighbour as Tamil Nadu is 28 miles away. China is in Srilanka not to do any wonders to Srilanka, but to destabilise India. China had hitherto tried to destabilise India on the eastern front and failed and has now switched its plan to attack India from Southern flank. With Southern states becoming increasingly unhappy over the North Indian Hegemony, anything could happen. China knows that Tamil support is important and therefore this may be a God send gift to Tamils in Srilanka.

      • 1
        0

Absolutely a perfect analysis of the present political situation in Sri Lanka. You rightly pointed China’s long-term political goal in this region. Sri Lankans are too much complacent about their political affiliations with their neighbors. Chinese and Indians have their own agendas to capitalize on their political ideologies in the respective regions. They don’t care about the people regardless of their ethnic identities living in these regions which is mere secondary. Educated and experienced people in the caliber of Dayan are still in deep slumber.

Most certainly the bond issue was politicised by the Sirasa media for their own reasons. There never was any “billions in losses” from a so-called “bond scam”. Sri Lankans are so gullible, and lack the ability to do their own calculations.
      Mr. Jayasinha is absolutely right.

Dr. DJ: Could you please tell us whether your “HERO” Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse is QUALIFIED as a CITIZEN of Sri Lanka to contest as of date at an election.

Mr Shymon: You have taken lot of pain to “Eclipse” our PM Mr.Ranil W, in that, he (PM) is compared to an equal or higher position than even Britain PM and Federal Chancellor of Germany. Also you say: “I write with verification and I have given evidence”. Now that the “Bond Commission Report” is out and you write on Jan.18th, I don’t think you had a chance to at least give a brief glance to it. Please read through it and get some more “verification” and “evidence” to justify your assessment of the “Bond Robbery” that took place within his (PM”S) Ministry. Now those “EQUALS” you compared , your HERO, must be still under “Distress Management” specialists to recover from the “Embarrassment” you inflicted on them. We, in Sri Lanka call the duties you perform “Kade Yanawa” presently; but “Gotta Allanawa” in those good old days.

I couldn’t care less about how Dayan feels about RW but, RW is indeed a curse to the UNP which is the one of the biggest political parties in SL and thus the nation itself. RW has been the leader of the UNP since 1994 if I recall correctly. I was a schoolboy back then. I mean WTF! One man cannot own a party like that. It is ridiculous to say otherwise. RW is a person who has led the UNP to well over twenty defeats (closer to 30 i think). David Cameron quit after losing brexit! He didn’t actually lose the parliamentary elections. In most civilized countries leaders do the right thing an step aside after one or maybe few defeats. Let a fresh new face give the party new life. If the new batch screws up then the old guard can always make a comeback. A strong disciplined opposition could have effectively challenged CBK and MR. Only reason RW is PM is because MS defeated MR and despite giving MR nominations during the general election MS publicly decried MR. And even despite that, despite mighty RW getting over 5 laks his percentage was actually LOWER than MR in Kurunegala (41 vs 44 percent). RW is a curse. He is essentially a political parasite latching on to popular candidates. He tried the same thing with Sarath Fonseka and SF ended up in jail. If MS had lost on the 8th of January, RW will still happily be the leader of the party and the opposition. After all MR allocated nearly Rs. 900 million for the leader of the opposition when he was the president (860 mil IIRC for 2013 onwards). Oh and he DID appoint Ravi K as Finance Minister. I wonder why?

    • 13
      7

Can anyone of Ranil’s critics including DJ say that Ranil has personally robbed public funds as MR had done starting with the Helping Hambanthota scam? Besides MR and family are not only Plunderers but also Murderers. If anyone suggest that the Yahapalanaya should be replaced with Rajapaksas back again, he or she should get their heads examined.
Every one must understand that, MR has udlib funds, robbed from the State, for his propaganda. A cash strapped UNP was no match to MR. Therefore the Bond issue is understandable. All these idiots who shout about the Bond issue must realize that without means, none can uphold Democracy or fight politically on empty coffers. These critics should be thankful that we still have Democracy and Media Freedom today, thanks largely to Ranil Wickremasinghe. If not for him, Democracy and Media Freedom would have been killed by MR like Robert Mugabe did. So give the Devil Ranil Wickremasinghe his due.

      • 5
        5

Huh? What now? Justifying daylight robbery I see! MR looting of the country is no excuse for you moron green-goblins to commit your own fiasco! It wasn’t RW that brought the demise of MR. It was largely due to MR and familys own currupt dictatorial behavior that the people of country decided to kick him out and the brave soul that stepped forward was MS. MS took a monumental risk to his life and his family along with Rajitha and others who dared to defy MR and GR. RW was never under threat. He was enjoying all the nice perks under MR. Infact it was the Americans and CBK that encouraged MS to run for the presidency not RW. RW just saw the oppotunity to be the typical parasite he is and supported MS. RW didn’t do $h!t. Infact it was the hard work of the younger UNP members that revitalized the UNP in certain areas starting from Harin in Badulla. But the moment RW became PM those young UNPers who worked hard are sidelined. NO YOU MORON! THE BOND ISSUE IS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE. If your coffers are empty, then there is a thing called fund-rasing which can be done home and abroad. You mentioned Robert Mugabe? RW literally is UNPs Robert Mugabe. A dictator who rules the party with an iron fist. Robert Mugabe was the president from 1987 to 2017 while RW has been the UNP leader since 1994. In that sense RW is only a bit better than Robert Mugabe. You green-goblins are hilarious.

I have not seen in the western world, Politicians are quitting after few losses or scandles. It is just one defeat, the politician respectfully steps down. Ranil is a leech can not be removed. If Ranil this in a western country, by now, LAw enforcement would have come with Warrants for everything and Ranil would have been arrested as well as all the documents in his office would have been taken away in sealed boxes.
In Sri lanka, Even for Sri lankan airlines, President is waiting and thinking when to appoint a PResidenial commission when it is very clear the management came their because of NEPOTISM and they are the reason why airline is babkrupt

        Jim Softy,

That is not the case in every European country. We can take Konrad Adenauer for an example. He was the leading man of West Germany well into his 80s and they say he had to be dragged out of the office. Then we have Charles de Gaulle. The leader of Free French movement. He stayed in the leadership until his death. Sri Lanka is no different. Why can’t Sri Lanka keep her war hero son as the leading man until he passes out?

Shyamon Jayasinghe: where is Ranil’s Lichchavi Malla type governing (I don’t you what it is ). Where is the ten million jobs that Ranil promised before the election. Anyway, he recruited over 7000 employees to the Sri lanka air lines which 24 planes including those are not air worthy. Sri lankan air lines is paying even to the FIRED MANAGEMENT. Tourism board chairman has caught stealing millions. Sri lankan airlines managment gets millions, air hostesses get in half millions. I”T has lost billions per year. chairman works from home and he ghas a catering/duty free business. RANIL WANTS TO PRIVATIzE IT THAT IS WHY HE RUNS IT AS A LOSING BUSINESS. UNP govt wants to import rice ad are asking farmers to not to grow crops. there is no mneed to talk about the destruction Ranil caused with the bond Scam.
Dayan Jayathilake Is promoting Mahinda Rajapakse who is no different from Ranil,. Ranil appoointed RAVI THE”LIAR. MR appointed BASIL AND NAMAL.

Filing a report, FCID Inspector Nihal Francis said Mr. Weeratunga owned an eight-acre land worth Rs. 40 million and a one-acre land worth of Rs. 25 million in Dompe and a luxury apartment (Trillium Residencies) worth Rs. 29 million in Borella.”

        Stupid Native Vedda
Ranil’s fingerints are all over the Bond scam. He hired Mahendran, obviously with a mutually agreed agenda. Then
Placed RAVI in charge of Zfinance ministry.knowing that Mahendran was not a SL citizen he persisted in keeping him as an adviser. He obviously has no qualms about RAVI living in a rent free Penthouse courtesy of the chief scammer Aloysius. All of the above came out during the COI proceedings. If that is not enough for your stupid brain wait to see AGs Dept making a total mess of the COI report by giving the report for follow up by a UNP stooge just like how Ranil tried to bury the bond scam by appointing 3 illiterate UNP lawyers to investigate with the sole objective of a cover up.Do you want more or do you now feel like running to the toilet you despicable traitor.

    Shyamon,

You are true in saying Ranil is the architect of the government and what I call him as father of New Democratic Sri Lanka. If Ranil falls so does the government and democracy freedom with it. With due respect our president is of no use, he was just a candidate and the people did not vote for Maithripala the person.

DJ wants Gotabaya as president god knows for what reason, I would vote for Ranil hands down if I had to choose between Ranil and the psycho Gotabaya. I compare Gotabaya to the villain character Assault Sethu in the movie Jigarthanda, both ruthless killers.

It is just hilarious to see Dayan boast about his victory at the unhrc session in 2009. He did nothing, the truth was the whole world was aligned against LTTE as India did the work for us plus the banning of the organization in key countries during Ranil’s tenure. Let’s talk about this in public eh Dayan. I can also prove that you met Ranil for favor and he kicked you out.

Sri Lanka politics got into a vicious cycle of no return since independence. People were unable to think in terms of bright economic prospects that would have taken us to greater heights in the international arena. The end result is our rupee value stands at Rs.155/dollar. But the leaders of that time went after the white elephant, the ‘Language Issues’ which took the country nowhere but disastrous outcomes. When British left the shores, Sri Lanka then was known as Ceylon, had a good reputation of class. Hence it was known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. To date, corrupt politicians still inciting the petty sentiments of the people to gain votes by covering all their wrongdoings. So the vicious cycle seems to continue unabated. Poor people of Sri Lanka, seems no way out other than to suffer forever and ever.

There are always something right and something wrong in all writers work-no brainer invention. But Thero does not allow one filter anything from his writing.
One thing you need to understand, ( I am right unless you are one with in circle of Old Royal ) Thero has experience of directly working with those animals. He knows if SLFP animals not in Temple Tree House UNP wild elephants roam there.
There are lions, hunt. Then the Hyena snatch on that. Fox steal out of it. Vultures scavenge. Ants and bugs clean the land. Thero earned, retired & wants to enjoy the retirement. So, these days, instead of becoming the history of the dead animal Thero position him from lion to ant as suitable for the circumstances.
Thero knows how Ranil fooled Ex State Secretary Kerry & saved Old King. He went to New York and met Ex. Secretary General of UN had fight with him to have Old Kings records to be deleted. Ranil did his best to save Lasantha murderers, Kathirgamar murderers……………………… You know better than me on those. Let’s look at the other side. When Old Younger Son Prince was arrested for Thajudeen Murder, King reminded the story of the First Daughters racketeering and him saving her. Remember the same Old King rascal went to earlier UNHRC and polluting it with his complains of that woman’s father mass murdering JVPyers and he wanted actions under Human rights and International Humanitarian laws? Then, when he came to power he did nothing about those gangs murdered the JVPyers but he put forward a proud claim of saving that criminal’s criminal daughter. Ranil shared Batalanda accusation, Old King saved him. When UNP in, it pardon the past SLFP, when SLFP in pardon, it UNP. No Revenge Politics- Gentle man Politics only. Thero understands the formula behind these so, set his path this way.

Karunaratna Gamage and (Melbirne residing) Native Vedi Saimon, I would like to remind you that your craving to be recognised as AN INTELLECTUAL is sure to end up in failure. Pseudonyms reveal your true self to those with IT know how. Licking Ranil’s and UNP ba–s will not make any difference. Be happy that it is 80 plus years now only a maximum of two more years to go. How about repenting?

        Pena Kiyanna

Being non intellectual among intellectual giants in this forum I am lost.
Could you present your point if ever you had one in simple layman’s language.
        Thanks

I blame Sirisena and Ranil for one big thing, ie not jailing these rajapakse rascals. These rascals now go about as if they do not know how to do wrong.

    Funny days these are
    In sunny Sri Lanka
    Hefty robbers are running around
    Calling those in office
    Robbers
Note they are not calling them murderers.
Disc Jockey is the JO’s comedian
    Praising them who
    Feel embarrassed to be praised

DJ is lucky to criticise a government that does not send white vans and hit squads. If it was the Maharaja and his powerful murdering brother GOTA, DJ would have been missing a long time ago. Remember Lasantha? How Gota went before BBC and said,”Who is Lasantha/ There are more important people than him.” He and his Maharaja bro covered up all their murders-Lasantha, Thajudeen, Ekneliyagoda and so many. Gota was an arrogant rascal

Today’s Daily Mirror On Lasantha’s Killing
“The CID yesterday told the Mount Lavinia Magistrate that their investigations into the killing of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge had uncovered an alleged attempt by the Mount Lavinia Police and the TID to destroy vital evidence of the killing.

They alleged the investigations were conducted by the Mount Lavinia Police and the TID during that time, not to identify the killers but to protect them”
Who was behind this cover-up Dayan Jayatilleka? Your Presidential candidate???

Sri lankans are pathetic. Sri lankan politicians do not know what SELF RESPECT is. Now, these two are arguing and there are a lot who separate Rajapakses and Ranils. Yet, SLFP, and UNP are thieves who change chiars from time to time. Nopne of those twwo parties know the Word SELF RESPECT. IF not why Mahinda Rajapakse and Ranila re still fighting for the same places. both DH, Shyamon Jayasinghe are trying to prove thieves re OK. That says their worth as Mahathmayas. Not Gentelmen. Gentlemen are thieves. that is why British have lot of Scottish, Irish, Wales, Main, Indian, chinese enemies.

Shyamon the overseas domiciled bootlicking for RW again. Were you born yesterday? Batalanda? Black July? Rigged referendums?

Dayan is full of hotair but we know that and he is honest about his loyalties and leanings. Shyamon is devoid of rational or balanced views.

Both Maithree and Sarath Fonseka have been duped by this apparition called Ranil. The latest from Handunneththi is that according to the report it was Ranil that has been giving false evidence that it was not him but MS that appointed his buddy Mahendran. Ranil the weasel wording liar had no shame. Both MS and SF have had their integrity ruined by this ogre that played its tricks. Two intelligent men have fallen victim to a fraudster and conman that lives a parasitic life , like the hydra on a hermit crab. It is such a pity that Sri Lankan voters are so blind that they cannot see the shit from food. I hope this time they will open their eyes and learn to discriminate. Get rid of these green shit headed by this conman and vote for something else that has not been stained by chronic corruption.

I thank all those who have taken the trouble to comment. A lot of sensible remarks but a lot of bullshit, too. Thanks also for the bullshit also. As for me, people who know me do know that I have been speaking my mind for years without favor or fervor and that I am not the kind to bow to slander. You can make me bow only with a better argument.
As I have stated, I am no fan of Ranil Wickremasinghe or any other political leader. I support leaders and parties only conditionally. I reiterate here, however, that without Ranil Wickremesinghe the country will be the poorer.
