Defeat For Sri Lankan Government

By TU Senan

Contrary to the claims of the Sri Lankan government they have been defeated on many fronts now. Not just in the UN in the form of the UNHRC resolution, but they also suffered a humiliating loss of support in the local provincial election.

In the last provincial election in Sri Lanka, the ruling party candidates lashed out at the US and the UK. It wasn’t that the ruling party of the misnamed ‘socialist republic’ suddenly wake up to the reality of the horror of capitalism. On the contrary the current Sri Lankan government has been implementing vicious neoliberal policies. But a US-led resolution in the UNHRC this month regarding human rights violations by the Sri Lankan regime, was a major propaganda defeat for the government.

Although the resolution fell short of any concrete action it was a humiliation for President Mahinda Rajapaksa. To this day he maintains that no human rights transgressions either took place or are taking place in Sri Lanka. The ruling party went all out to turn the Geneva embarrassment into votes and support – hence the bashing of western governments. They urged voters to support them to ‘save the nation’ and ‘to send a message to Geneva and the Americans’.

Despite these attempts, the results in the last election provided a clear indication of the diminishing support for the government, even in the places they used to consider as strongholds. While the fall in the vote is significant (11% in the western province and 9% in the southern province), more revealing is that this fall in support is taking place despite the massive Geneva scaremongering. What has been vote-producing ‘development rhetoric’ also received a whacking with a 9% reduction in the vote in the heartland of development and Mahinda’s family cave – Hambantota.

In an attempt to whip up Sinhala nationalism the government now resorts to attempting to adopt an anti-imperialist face. Look at the example of Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe from the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and national organiser of racist Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU). He claimed in an election rally that “they” are prepared to sacrifice a hundred thousand people to “ensure the protection of the country”. This is not just a throw-away comment from a racist, but reflects a mentality that exists in the ruling party in Sri Lanka.

While the anti-western mood is whipped up to protect the regime, a carefully choreographed scaremongering is also taking place. The spectre of the LTTE is used as a tool for further suppression. In the name of a fictional new leader ‘Gobi,’ there is an effective curfew in place in the north. Each and every house has been searched. This is a clear message of what is to come. Anyone willing to give evidence or speak out against the government will be framed as LTTE.

Is a war crime investigation a possibility?

Mahinda Rajapaksa denounced the UNHRC resolution, though he and the SL regime cannot completely ignore what is to come. They may be forced to set up some sort of ‘internal investigation’ mechanism to comply with the UN and the west. This, however, will only be a tactic to avoid further fallout. No investigation will satisfy western interest as its aim is to break the current regime’s increasing ties with China. Unless that break takes place, the west and their institutions will constantly be on the back of this regime. As the ruling family’s strength and wealth is tied to China, the only action we can expect is tactical manoeuvres.

One such tactic was outlined by the regimes’ former ally Dayan Jayatillega. A summary of his argument goes like this: set up some sort of investigation – get Cyril Ramaphosa involved (Cyril Ramaphosa was appointed by South African president Zuma as a special envoy to Sri Lanka) – get ‘known’ Sri Lankans involved in the investigation – get some international names involved. There you have it – a cocktail that that can put a delay on western governments’ advances on the ruling regime!

But this is a proposal for a cover-up. Dayan, who previously successfully defended the Sri Lankan regime in the UN, knows the ‘game’ the regime will have to play. Like Dayan, many who do not support the regime are directly or indirectly showing loyalty on this matter as they have bought into the government’s propaganda that the UNHRC resolution is an attack on Sri Lanka in general, not just against the regime. From the UNP to other opposition parties, many have defended the regime on this with the exception of left forces such as the United Socialist Party.

Even the tactical manoeuvre of setting up a bogus investigation is in itself a humiliation for the ruling family. Mahinda’s family members continue to argue that nothing wrong was done – which effectively rules out any investigation. If they have to establish any investigation – who can they investigate? Who can they blame? Because every blame and every crime will lead all the way to the high command – Gotabhaya Rajapaksa himself. This is one of the reasons why the so-called credible investigation under the current regime is an impossibility. And this is not a secret.

Western interests in Sri Lanka

This is common knowledge among thousands of Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim people. Of course UNHRC experts and those who advise western governments are also aware of this fact. So what makes them turn a blind eye? Why should they continue to “encourage” or “urge” or “welcome” the Sri Lankan government to come out with any meaningful investigation? The recent UNHRC resolution is full of such sham terminologies. It hides the real intention of the western governments which they dare not openly debate for fear of facing a backlash from the masses. Establishing an economic advantage in Sri Lanka is not talked about openly (Beyond UNHRC resolution – demand a constituent assembly http://www.tamilsolidarity.org/?p=3507). What actions the western governments are prepared to take is linked to how far they are prepared to go to challenge the Chinese influence in the region. China and Russia, who have veto power in the UN Security Council, will limit the scope of any UN action.

Some campaigners may argue that these competitions between China and the west in the region could be used to our advantage. This is a false hope. This simplified argument will lead to the dangerous tactic of taking the side of this or that oppressive force. The US and the west attempting to dictate human rights to neocolonial countries is indeed hypocritical. Together the US and western governments are responsible for more deaths across the planet than other governments. But at the same time opposing these imperialist interests should not lead to defending undemocratic regimes who are also committing heinous crimes. Outrageously the Cuba and Venezuela governments support the Sri Lankan regime in the name of an anti-imperialist alliance against the US and the West. This amounts to a parody – ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.

But the Cuban and Venezuelan action comes as no surprise to those who know the character of these states. Their foreign policy is often an extension of local policies that restrict democratic rights. In fact, there is not a single state in the world that genuinely stands for democracy and is on the side of the oppressed masses. Alliances are forged and broken, not in the interest of the masses, rather to corner a piece of the pie. Of course the character of a state like Venezuela is fundamentally different from that of the US in that the Venezuelan government under former President Hugo Chavez took enormous steps forward in lifting the masses out of poverty.

But this doesn’t mean that this country can be immune to criticism and that all they do is progressive. Far from it. The trade unions and political activists in Venezuela are forced to wage a brave fight against the state’s oppression against them. At the same time they are also fighting against the pro-capitalist right which is relentlessly trying get back to power to turn the clocks back on the advances of ordinary people to use the country’s wealth to meet their needs instead of lining the pockets of the rich. A simplistic interpretation of what side any force or individual is on is dangerous – the question can only be, do they defend the rights of ordinary people and oppose oppression whenever it rears its ugly head.

Similarly a one-time armed group with revolutionary ideas, the ANC, now has the blood of South African workers on its hands after the massacre of striking mineworkers in Marikana in August 2012. Workers in South Africa have been forced to assess whether their traditional party, that led the mighty battle against Apartheid is still fit for purpose in the world’s most unequal and racist country. But that is not the end of the story.

Massacre to mass workers’ party is the new South African scenario – which should be the model in Sri Lanka. People in South Africa are drawing conclusions from their bitter experiences – now they know the rotten bankruptcy of the once-revolutionary ANC. The Marikana massacre sounded the death knell of the ANC. The newly formed Workers And Socialist Party (WASP) is expected to make its first impact in the upcoming election. Cyril Ramaphosa, on his way to being a billionaire, was recently chased out by the people during his election canvassing.

There is no reconciliation for the poor and oppressed in South Africa until they have a powerful independent voice to organise the struggle for justice and for rights. Tamils and all oppressed people in Sri Lanka will have to take the South African road – the one that started in the massacre in Marikana.

All the tribulations suffered by MR and the GoSL, abroad and at home, mean one thing in the days ahead. More scaremongering, more surveillance and hard-line tactics at home, and accusations and threats to anti-government groups overseas (as we have already seen). Fasten your seat belts folks, the road ahead will be bumpy for sometime to come.

The ruling party polled more than all of the opposition parties put together. If that is a loss of support, I am sure most political party heads anywhere in the world would yearn for the same.

A kind of hubris had been evident among the LTTE worshipping demagogues for a couple years now. Today though it has gone. The sure-footed stride is replaced by a rather hesitant Monty Pythonesque one. It’s the effect of being banned as terrorist affiliates..

UPFA gain the election with intimadation, forge rogue votes, abusing public property etc. I personally know modawansa(weerawansa) kiss ass rajitha used SEC vehicles and housing authorit vehicles and people from thiese institution for thier election campaign. With all these illegal activites they gain only few percent. If not for those jil marts they would have lost the election.

You must be a moron or a blind and deaf die hard Rajapaksa assister. The UPFA polled about 26% of the total number of eligible votes in the two provinces. You call this victory? According to your learned professor Peiris 75% are against the UPFA. Ha ha ha….

Senan has correctly pointed out that the upliftment of the masses (read Africans) in South Africa is stalled and has not delivered the their just expectations.
The greatest danger to progress in South Africa now is Navi Pillai. By pandering to her evil desire to extract revenge from the Sri Lankan state and the Sinhala Buddhists she will become obligatory to the West. The West will use Navi Pillai in their schemes to destabilise the South African state, divide the nation and people in their quest to wrest control of that nations’ vast natural resources. The moment the West (lead by UK) has been waiting for has arrived with the demise of the wonderful man, Nelson Mandela.
Like Venuzuela, Lybia, Syria the nation of South Africa is likely to encounter externally engineered dissent, accompanied with propaganda – the prelude to external involvement and chaos.
In my view, Navi Pillai’s involvement and loyalty (read disloyalty)in that scenario is predictable.

    Dear Senan,

I have never advocated involving Cyril Ramaphosa in any investigation. If I have done so, please provide the quote. I have strongly urged the implementation of the LLRC recommendation of an independent, credible, Lankan invetigation, for which I have suggested Justice CG Weeramantry or Sir Desmond de Silva QC.

I have however, urged that South Africa, Japan, India could assist in getting the TNA-Govt negotiations back on track and help move those negotiations along constructive lines towards a viable solution, namely the full implementation of the 13th amendment, albeit with swaps involving the concurrent list.

You are suggesting an independent, credible Lankan investigation by two Sinhalese judges. But you have omitted key factor the “impartial” and you do not want to include a Tamil judge in your list. Who is going to monitor that it is credible, independent and impartial. You are suggesting that the full implementation of 13th amendment is viable solution. How do you know it is a viable solution? You want Japan, India and South Africa to assist the negotiations with TNA and Government. Why do you need a negotiation to implement the existing 13th amendment. Why can’t your government negotiate with TNA? What are the barriers for implementing 13th amendment in full? Who has the power to break those barriers? Who has the power to implement the 13th amendment in full?

Why do you want Japan, India and South Africa instead of United Kingdom, South Africa and India?

You are only contesting the role you suggested for Cyril Ramaphosa by Senan but not denying Senan’s allegation that you are trying to protect the war crminals by this sham “cover up” local investigation you want conducted by two Sinhalese.

Many in the forum here and among tamils in Sri lanka and in the diaspora suspected your ulterior motive in opposing an outside investigation. You, despite being savaged by Rajapaksa as an NGO stooge, are trying to protect a war criminal from his due punishment. Whatever little respect you had left among the civilised and decent people from both Sinhala and tamil communities you have now lost for good.

You may gain some benefits now from protecting war criminals but fate and history will not be kind to you and your kind. Remember the fate of those apologists and protectors of Hitler the next time you try to defend the Rajapaksas.

    TU Senan,
Above you say….” do they defend the rights of ordinary people and oppose oppression whenever it rears its ugly head”.

This is the cry of billions of people around world is asking from everyone “Isn’t there any system that is simple and effective to asking justice to the oppressed?”.

Only God Almighty comes in rescue at the opportune moment. Second, no oppressor or oppressing system has survived for long. They survive as long as they remained acceptable to the majority of them. But, when the oppressed cry for help from heaven the wrath of God comes in a flash with devastating effect.

Hitler came to power as people were brain washed with Mind Control techniques (http://vigilantcitizen.com/hidden-knowledge/origins-and-techniques-of-monarch-mind-control/) that touched their base instinct – Racism.

They all loved it. They brought him to power. He presented the blue print to annihilate innocent human beings on the pretext of an “Imagined Enemy”. The Germans loved it and approved him.

He then exercised his power. Invaded countries. Killed millions. Allowed atrocities to be carried out by his army (Like the SL ARMY) and gave them a freehand to operate until they achieve the set goal.

God allowed all this to happen because, when an oppressor was being made and operative. Everyone watched and took it easy. It came to their doorstep one day. There was no one to protect no one.

The whole world was dominated by one bloody hell of a group that propagated WAR and destruction in every nook and corner….The Illuminati….

Anagarika Dharmapala (Open Racists) was a member of this gang. They transformed the Sinhala’s into a future Murdering Machine. The JHU & Gota/Mahinda’s main teaching is Anagarika’s Philosophy.

So, when you check in the links I have given, you will find that all the Oppressors have one thing in unity – SATAN.

All of them are inter-connected. That’s why you see Mahinda is being funded by IMF. When they were massacring in Mullivaikal UK, INDIA, US, Europe, China, Russia…all were united in the massacre. They need to prove the Satan that they can do sacrificial war to satisfy the Devil.

Remember, H.P.Blavatsky who came to SL and became a Buddhist with her comrade Col. Henry Steel Olcott all belonged to this evil group. Check (http://vigilantcitizen.com/hidden-knowledge/the-order-of-the-illuminati/)

Very few understand DJ’s techniques. There is a little bit parallel in the card game of 304 and to DJ’s techniques. Say “one team got most of the very good cards and if they manage properly one or two, with the rest of the cards, it can be a full capture. And, to be able to hold that victory, that team has to declare the capture, right after all leading cards of the opposition are taken. They need to keep an eye on all the cards are discarded by opposition. But, the tactful opposition, normally do not discards their high points card in noticeable way. They get rid them in subtle way. Though, still opposition may reserve tiny ones to cut the tinier ones of “dominants cards holders” team. This causes a confusion to domination ones and either they get caught by the tiny ones the opposition hiding or they fail to declare the capture and play up to the last card without knowing what happened to the high points card that should have gone to opposition. DJ plays this technique to revenge who humiliated him.

DJ wanted to preserve the military victory achieved by the king’s government to the Sinhalese. He worked hard for that. But the King’s government is not really attached to the Sinhalese. They utilized the victory and the Sinhalese for them in the same way they are using Tamils. But, of cause, instead of launching military on them, (unlike the way it is used on Tamils to keep them under control , because Tamils are too difficult to be easily fooled in the elections), election is used to keep the Mahavamsa Modayas under control. DJ understands this and he rather than feeling loss for his employment, he feels for the victory being stolen by the king’s government to fill up its pocket. So he plays the 304 Card game to confuse the GLP like players who got superior hand by hanging with the government’s violent power. True, GLP is also a professor and he has good cards in his hands too, but he cannot stand up to DJ’s playing techniques. What DJ did was for the last two months was, in four or five Medias, in two languages, kept suggesting all the big and the small possible ways that could help to keep out the resolution, free of charge. This is how DJ revenged his opponents who utilized him and threw him away like an empty bottle. So, one might ask “So what is the problems here, why didn’t king’s men and asses utilize one of that and stop the humpty-dumpty from the falling down?” The problem is on a different direction. Unlike the slave GLP, DJ cannot keep his mouth closed and just do whatever the King orders to do. . Kings policy is” always stay within the line I Draw”; but to DJ, he has to consult and brag about that too. So king has put him out just mainly because he advised King unnecessarily. In that condition, when the NGO-DJ giving the free advises with purpose of making them to do at least one of them, how can the king’s government to succumb for that trick? So, GLP was standing not knowing what to do, Brother Prince came out with his superior ideas and arrested Jeyakumari to stop the resolution being passed. This arrest brought in to the prince two bonuses with the names of” Ruki and Fr. Praveen”. Without failing, brother prince grabbed the bonuses too. DJ could not be happier than that. Watching entertainingly this so smooth melodrama smartness, he kept writing additional ones as “After the Resolution”. Even he wouldn’t have dreamed the success he had, by rounding up the entire government single handedly.

The angry king marginalized GLP by asking” Are you a professor?” Yet, GLP was not ready to let his name go like that. So he did his famous calculation of adding 12+12=24. Everybody knew Venezuela, Cuba and Russia voted against America. While voting not for UNHRC interfering in Sri Lanka, Russia invaded into Crimea. Venezuela is trying to sell more oil to American companies. South Africa did not vote because it wants to be the facilitator. Japan and India stayed away with the excuse of China. Pakistan and Vietnam wanted to show old grudges. Though Vietnam was against America; Pakistan had it against India. India spilt the Pakistan. It formed the rebel movements in the Tamils Eelam too. That was considered by Pakistan as India again trying to enhance it power by splitting Lanka too. China has to save its loans. Lanka has been threatening to hand over Nooraichcholai to India. Now by voting, it has got its plant back. If somebody who knows the politics at UNHRC, they know the addition of the GLP’s equation 12+12 will come out with the result of 0 (i.e. 12+12=0). They know the 12+12 not equal to 24 as GLP tries to show.

It is true that Westerns Countries have an eye on China too. America worked against LTTE because the rebel movements were formed by Mrs. Gandhi. She destroyed Old East- West Pakistan. America did not wanted that happen in Lanka too. But their strategy got mixed up with in the last 10 years. China came out with its “chain of Pearls”. They needed India to neutralize it. LTTE and India started rivalry with in themselves. America which still saw LTTE as “old Pakistan split” they offered to India to put down LTTE but wanted to see Chains out of Sri Lanka. India was ready to tolerate China in Sri Lanka but not ready to let Western countries to come to Sri Lanka through UNHRC. India is pretending that if they press Lanka it may force Lanka towards China. One thing is there, even without pressing Lanka is going to China. (Recently gave the Nooraichcholai to China- India is the only one protecting the King on the power. King is the only one in Sri Lanka wants to be the servants of China- No other Lankan leader wanted this and no future one will do that either. So it is like ABC for India if it wants to get rid of China from Sri Lanka, but the truth is it doesn’t want to get rid). Because of the mismatched condition of the variables, this equation cannot be solved. To add more complexity, America is taking India’s position and still not ready to take away the GSP+ it has given to Sri lanka. But the EU has done it long ago. America knows that like, Nooraichcholai, one after other, when China finish taking away everything it gave on loan, Lanka will go back to western countries for fresh aids, like Burma did. Yet, America is following India’s path on GSP +, not EU’s path. The only country in the world interested in keeping the King’s government in power is India; not even China. China would like to see a government in power that can return its loan. The only reason India wants to keep King on the power is, India knows the corrupted King would not easily let the Western Democracies to land in Lanka.

This is why anti-western Congress Party stayed away from the resolution, but explained it as that is the good thing to do for Tamils. In past, every time it was India’s who was fooled by Sri Lanka. But on the resolution, it appears it was Kings who was fooled by India. After the India’s abstinence on the resolution, as a gesture, King sent orange juice for the TN Fishermen whom he would usually arrest in the mid-sea. With that, there was a thank you letter for PM Man Mohan Sigh, too was sent. After all these only, Lanka is finding out they have been cheated by India. It is not GLP who found out that India’s account is not adding up to 24. It was the 2nd Brother Prince who found out the truth. Sujatha Singh said Congress did not vote because it wanted to do something good for Tamils. This was really insulting to Royal government. Yet, that is not what bothering the Royal Government; like always, it was GLP’s calculation that went wrong is the one bothering it. It is not just India is not with GOSL, it seems to be against GOSL. At this time, when the western countries have passed and trying to implement the resolution, India wants the 13 + completed now. Again one might say “Ok then what the big deal here is? Do it and escape from the OHCHR’s investigation. ” What I can say them is “The bull is kicking the one who fell down from the tree”. Do they remember how India got the GOSL to conduct the Northern Provincial election in last September? Because, Instead of nullifying the 13A with the PSL, GOSL lent to India and conducted the election, GOSL is got trapped by a bunch of noisy bees of NPC members and a chief minister. This how earlier America cornered GOSL into LLRC. Now all of LLRC elements are being used at UNHRC. No way can GOSL listen to India this time. At least for India’s stand on the 13+ GLP has to correct his equation as 12+12= (only) 23.
