Don’t Participate Organized Protest On My Behalf: Rosy

Defeated Colombo district UNP candidate Rosy Senanayake has urged her supporters not to participate in tomorrow’s scheduled protest organized by certain womens’ organizations.

Issuing a statement today, Rosy Senanayake stated the the UNP is a disciplined political party and that there is a policy not to appoint defeated candidates through the national list.

rosySenanayake said that there is a legal way forward to ensure that a recount could be obtained and confirmed that she will seek her party leader’s permission in doing so.

“There is a possibility that the recount could go in my favour or on the other hand it may not” she said.

However the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya made it clear yesterday, that he will not provide Rosy Senanayake a recount as there was no provision in the Parliament Elections Act.

its very sad when people like Rosy who always had a voice in Parliament for women/children and is a loyal UNPier from the beginning lose her seat whereas first timers who crossed parties get a seat through UNP only by using her fathers name and death to win sympathy… the system must change!

Come off it, Mihith or whatever.
Are you saying that Rosy changed the lot of women in Sri Lanka? Can you name when, where and how.

She is just a ‘fashionable’ womens’ activist who has chosen it as a fashion accessory. She has nothing in common with the women of Sri Lanka and she does not identify with them except on TV chat shows.

For whatever reason, the Colombo classes and the English media are trying their best to get Rosie back in to action – against peoples’ will.
The Sunday Island headline was ridiculously promoting her for the British HC vacancy!

The country has gone to the colonial remnants and anyone with a lighter skin appears to be the preferred these days.

Let this cheese cake go. People have rejected her.

Only 11 women in parliament, so, what has happened to all the funds from the foreign donors that went to Colombo’s elite women’s groups to promote women’s political participation?!
Nimalka Fernando and Women and Media Collective had free trips all over the world with AUSAID in name of women’s political participation in governance. They were too busy on the international conference circuit and to work on the ground and do hard work of voter education of the massed on need to elect women and working bottom up..
These elitist Colombo women’s organizations have a top down mentality. They are busy having good time with lot foreign trips and cocktail parties to educate the Sri Lanka voters on need importance of intelligent women in parliament. What waste.

            Yes.

They do not have the time to meet the voter who votes and shake hands or say Ayubovan , Vannakam, Namaste or Assalamu- Alaikum.

Foreigners do not vote. Locals do.

well I don’t know much about Rosy .However I have listened to her political debates online.I felt she is quite mature politically unlike other babes around . it is a pity that she was not selected. She can be fashionable and English speaking middle class woman. But that does not deny her rights to engage with politics. We should come out of this mentality and if some one try’s to do something better for the masses that person should be given a chance.I applause UNPs stance of not giving national list slots for losers of the election .However Rosy could have been an exception as we need more women participation in parliament.
Hard luck Rosy but never give up. There are many supporting you and this may be a blessing in disguise .Hold your breadth and carry on.All the best until you find light at the end of the tunnel.

This is the reason why I call lanken average are so studid.

I really dont know why they voted for idiots such as street boys (Buruwanse and Gonwanssa Udaya) but not Rosy.
      She really fought against injustice.
She was also a powerful voice in Unp.
I have always watched and listen to her arguments when she was invited by Sirasa.

And ofcourse JVPERs are not given more chances even if they were the ones who brought each and every issues to light during the last 5 years. Had JvpeS been away from parliamentary active politics, this nation would have been met with all the unexpected situation to this date.
Guys, you go back to the days we started after janu 8th, and see how JVPers worked on the issues that the anti Rajapakshe and any one who thought and need a change towards the human rights of this country – is it fair them to be given much less mandate by people.. NO.. no no..
As one who stand for ones that shine a voice against injustice, as Rosy always did, I believe, this country needs social democratic autorities rather than more democractic goverancne. Having living in Germany for such a long time, I feel, there should be a system in the country people to feel that they must be obeyed to the rule of law and order… rather than giving them more freedom. Then only the donkey nation ( at least most of the them ) could decide for their future. First disipline and then others. See I hope My3 and RW combination would bring this tangible changes before long. But I really dont like cricketers or any other stars being introduced or offered as ambasssardors to represent the nation. Sure, they are good advercates for the countries representing the country to outside world, but they should also have the knoweldge or experience to do so. Not like the way MR regime did it by appointing grade 5 passed, tea business men allowing to represent the country specially in English speaking countries like the US. Except few examples most of all were their kith and kin or the related guys that were handpicked by maharaja for his jollyful feelings, not respecting the cresdetials – thugs their and thugs here for the system to go forward under the motto of Balu chinthanaya. Anyways, these are now by gone issues, but the days ahead of us should turn it a very positive world for all of lankens. Jayawewa to lanka – mother lanka

          Amarasiri,

I think from that day on, common people of god cursed island, have alwasys been like that. They love to enjoy for the moment, without thinking twice actually. No matter even if their lovely ones would have been tortured or beheaded, they would go for their stupidities supported by their genetics. This has been the nature of those men and women who enjoyed the derogatory terms of Wimal and Gommapila – those terms make them more popular. Even Mervin had thousands that marched for him, remember ? We the ones who get to see such marchs or processions, get hurt easily. I asked myself why people even respect those creatures that constantly use sinhala abusive terms on their stages- not respecting the least – going back how todays Prez was attacked by the kind of abusive sinhala terms ” sirisenayo… umba gedara arinawa on the 8th Jan etc” – the kind of public statements I have never heard in any political campaigns in europe. Had any candidate fallen to that levels, the law and order of the country would surely go against the men or women. That is how they maintain the disipline.
But MR led lanka, we never saw the latter happening. THat is why most that did so got polarised. Listners were entertained int hat way, similarly to far poor indians become so having watched dreamy indian films. MAYAWAKEE me loke – the song sung by Mohideen beg is reechoing my ears while adding my thoughts to this page today.

Mihith, with all due respect to Rosy and her definite capabilities, you must concede that those who used their father’s name and death, were elected BY THE PEOPLE and elections are conducted to figure out the choice of the people.

The problem is with the lack of understanding with the voting list. I suspect there are hundreds of thousands out there, who didn’t actually know the methodology of the voting.

Simplify, simplify, simplify is the answer. Legislators must consider these as critically important to a healthy election which truly reflects the choice of the people. I bet there were thousands who voted without exactly knowing what they were doing, and this would have cost the candidates their due preferential votes.

You are quite right. The polling card given to mark at the booth was confusing. We had to remember the candidates number by memory to mark. The list with numbers were not provided to the voters by displaying it in the cubicle.

Fortunately I remembered mine as I just saw the list and numbers minutes before but did not note them down thinking the candidate name and numbers will be provided somewhere. But nothing was found. At least in the marking cubicle the election staff should have posted the list of names and their numbers so the voter could read off the number of the preferred candidate and mark.

Fortunately I was lucky to remember the numbers of my choice. I am sure many voters would have got lost and simply marked arbitrarily. We chose the party correctly but the preferential candidate within the party was certainly confusing. How can a less educated person understand this complicated voting card perplexed me.

IF ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE… then the National List must be TORN DOWN…( NATIONAL LIST WAS TO BRING IN HIGHLY QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS WHO COULD BE BROUGHT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE COUNTRY AND NOT PEOPLE WHO WERE REJECTED BY THE VOTERS)….comes to mind the famous quote by Ronald Reagan… Bring that wall down ! it was brought down and 2 sets of people live peacefully…

Its a shame UPFA and JVP chose LOSERS to the National List… ( this IS NOT the peoples choice) they need to walk the talk..

Certainly the system must change that is why Hirunika contested under the UNP ticket. It would have been very hard for her to do this, but she also stands for justice. From the same party against all odds she stood for justice for her father’s murder. Where are the murderers today? I am a UNPer but I am not against Hirunika winning from the UNP. In fact UNP should have more winning people like her who stand for justice. Even in the UNP you dont find many of them. For me Rosy has been an all time favourite, but it was the fault of the party for fielding big names in the Colombo district. Some favourites were bound to lose – Unfortunately for Rosy if not her it would have b3een someone else. Life has to go on.

    Women’s organisation,

“Defeated Colombo district UNP candidate Rosy Senanayake has urged her supporters not to participate in tomorrow’s scheduled protest organized by certain womens’ organizations.”

So. we have double standards by the defeated candidates and the candidates who won.

Defeated Candidates want a recount, and the the successful candidates, do not want it.

“in tomorrow’s scheduled protest organized by certain womens’ organizations.”

The women’s organisations should ask the 51% of the voters why they voted for Wimal Buruwansa of 2/2 =0, fame, when a more suitable intelligent candidate like Rosy Senanayaka was available.

Is it because most of the Women are like Wimal Buruwansa, do not understand 2/2 =0?

If not they certainly would have voted for Ms. Rosy Senanayaka.

Women’s organisation, please look yourself in the mirror, and ask each womnen why they voted for Buruwansa and not Rosy.

If there is such a protest in support of Rosy then that is certainly undemocratic and these groups are only trying various dubious means circumventing the people’s verdict.

It is really heartening that Rosy has come out against such as such meetings. These protest meetings are most likely organized by people who really dislike Rosy and want to bring harm to her in the pretense of helping her. It is good Rosy did not fall into their trap.

The history of politics in many countries is replete with instances of leaders who have been desperately unfortunate. Rosy is one of them.

Rosy, you are young enough to come back to parliament in five years. In the meantime, let us MCPs din it into our women folk that it is they who should primarily be concerned about gender issues.

However, your replacing Mano Ganeshan . . . now doesn’t that also cause problems? Isn’t he the only Tamil representing the hundreds of thousands of Tamils in the Colombo District, perhaps in the Southern Low Country?

What I’m saying is there aren’t solutions to every problem. This dilemma is the sole responsibility of our English-speaking Sri Lankan women. They just didn’t vote for her in the numbers that they should have; gender issues were just not important enough for them. So, the real fault lies with each of them.

I’ve already made it clear, I hope, that Mano Ganeshan ought not to make way for Rosy. Make your choice from one of the following: I fear that few will have the courage make the choice from among these:

    Ranil Wickremesinghe – 500,566
    Sujeewa Senasingha – 117,049
    Harsha De Silva – 114,147
    Ravi Karunanayaka – 111,394
    Patali Champika Ranawaka – 100,444
    S.M. Marikkar – 92,526
    Mujabar Rahuman – 83,884
    Eran Wickramarathna – 82,738
    Wijedasa Rajapaksa – 81,758
    Hirunika Premachandra – 70,584
    Mano Ganeshan – 69,064

Let me be honest: I know little of either S.M. Marikkar or Mujibar Rahman – but I wll not dare to outrage all Muslims in the country by suggesting that one of them be dropped. Ravi Karunanayake has had a bad press, especially over the Arjun Mahendran Bondgate. That was quite an achievement for Champika Ranawaka to have got so many UNP votes.

No, I fear that we will stick to the order of the list.

Isn’t she the only one to have started the women and children issues ministry in the first place? Did such a ministry exist before? I thought she should go beyond women and children’s issues, and be some grand ambassador somewhere. But as she finds that it is her calling, she should be given it honorarily.

If you were not blind, were there many female activists that spoke women affairs during the last few years ? Pawithara was like Watti amma – she would go on sucking the corrupted politicians. Once she showed up in a TV discusison, her behaviours were like as if she came from KONGO forest. So, who are else in active politics be able to speak pro women rights and child rights ? Leaving jealousy, you women should get together – it is high time to do so if you see it honest.

I believe a recount in a General Election can be sought only before a victor for the electorate is duly announced by the authorities. The EC
is perfectly right when he declares there is no provision to entertain
Rosy’s request at this stage. Personally, I would have liked Rosy getting in because that would have meant someone with a Burgher parentage is in Parliament. I am told her mother is Burgher. It is such a pity there are no representatives in Parliament today to represent this fine community.

Perhaps one can be accommodated in the National List next time.

    Rosy,

    Do not be disheartened.

You can do good work without being a politician. The bondage of party politics often restrains persons from doing what is best for the community. There is a lot of good work to be done out there, not only for women and children but to the mass of oafs who voted for MARA’s hora kalliya. These oafs need educating. If you are financially secure, avoid accepting any of the chalices that are being offered by your party hierachy – they may over time become poisonous.

I have listened to your talks and arguments before. You are of a better calibre than many of the politicians out there – intelligence wise. Keep your chin up, keep working and there is always a next time. Good luck.

UNP may have not directly involved to appoint rejected politicians. However, a certain rejected politician who support party leaders as and when the necessary arise have been appointed from the national list. He started his political carrier from UNP during JR Jayawardhena’s era and was very much a supporter of UNP. When MR became the president and disclosed that he will probe corruption allegations against UNP politicians he was the first to jump to MR’s party . When MR lost presidential elections he changed his tune to praise RW claiming his close connection with RW from the time he was in the United National Party. He kept one foot in UNP and the other in UPFA. He knew that even if he loose from UPFA, UNP will look after him. This kind of so called politicians are there to feather their own nest and not for the interest of the country or to his constituency. These disgraceful politicians should not be appointed from NL after they are rejected by the voters. People decide their representative to the parliament and reject when the candidate is not suitable for the job. This is a joke to give appointments from the NL.

I doubt these protest meeting in support of Rosy are various dubious means circumventing the people’s verdict. Actually they will go against Rosy in the long term and I will mention in another instance when Rosy spoke out denying any knowledge when CT pointed out animal cruelty when an elephant was used to carry a large picture of Rosy down the streets in Colombo for her election campaign.

Possibly she lost the elections because of these actually had negative effect. I am sure the protest campaign being organized will to have negative effect in long term portraying Rosy as a person who is not willing to accept the verdict of the people and desires to force herself into Parliament. She possibly as a bad set of campaign organizers who are ill advising Rosy. She should sack them to start with.

If Rosy wants a recount when she secured 65,320 votes and Mano Ganeshan nearest rival who got 69,064 and won by over 3500 votes. But in Jaffna district Mrs. Maheswaran won by just 05 votes to the TNA candidate. If Election commissioner allows a recount then it is only fair to have a recount in Jaffna results too!

Just because Mano Ganeshan won over her does not mean he is more popular than Rosy and it is only because of the errors of the voting system and quite unlike the older first past the post system.

I put it bluntly all want to go to parliament only because there is lot of money and collateral benefits being an MP as one who really wants to serve the people could do so from outside the Parliament.

Even though Mano Ganeshan won beating her by about 3500 votes, it does not mean Mano Ganeshan is more popular than her!

If Mano Ganeshan and Rosy Senanayake were the two only candidates, it does not mean Mano Ganeshan will again win, most unlikely and Rosy will beat him by many lakhs of votes. This is the errors in the present system when we did away the first past the post system.

“Don’t Participate Organized Protest On My Behalf: Rosy”

This is a very clever PR exercise by Rosy. She certainly have got this done but denies in public she supports it.
I don’t believe she is not involved in the organization of the protest. She cannot bear the people’s verdict. The trail of events, body language and her conduct shows this in spite trying hard to hide!

The same when the elephant show misfires she denied any knowledge of it and accepted using animals in election campaign is displaying no due respect to animal rights and apologized on behalf of the organizers. She should accept responsibility and cannot deny it. That shows she is not a leader even though she can attract lot of crowd because of her beauty and charm.

I think that Elephants being abused for her campaign and her being favourite, many would have thought Rosy will surely get elected, and others would not . so they should vote for the others. In that way. Else, almost everyone knows from TV and other media how hard Rosy worked against Rajapkashe abusive regime and supporting to win UNP.

We lost an opportunity to elect a great born again evangelical christian doing great work. She is educated and she is capable and conducted herself with dignity in Parliament in face of the foul mouth Sinhala Buddhist thugs like Mervyn and others making disgraceful third world classless comments in and out of Parliament. Her success in real world to help heal people by converting them has really worked. She converted a former President’s wife and daughter to accept God the only and only true Christian god and saved them. She could have done the same through Parliament on a greater scale. Her mistake was to side with Sajith Premedasa in the power battle before Ranil consolidated his power. She openly said Ranil was not fit to be the leader. Ranil neither forgets nor forgives. That is why he is happy. His orders may be why she was not allowed to campaign beyond Colombo West: Colombo west is always UNP; full of minorities and has the highest per capita income. But if she brought her evangelical message to other poorer areas she could have easily topped recent pole vaulter Hirunika and her questionable past with links to drugs.

Rosy does the Lord’s work well and she can continue to heal the nation and get it to accept Christ as the saviour and all these hate and violence will go away. But we do have Eran Wickremeratne to hold one part of our sacred covenant to save people so we hope it will be done. Soon we will have more good Evangelical Christians as Ministers and we can finally do the Lord’s work to heal that nation. Rosy keep doing good work. You have done more to change lives than Chandrika or Ranil or John Ameretunge and definitely more than buddhist Mahinda

  • 2
    2

If everyone heals and accepts christ as saviour there will be a happy Sri Lanka.Rosy will do great work as a lay person and save more people. She has already helped a former assassinated VVIP’s daughter overcome her problems dealing with a kid who is autistic via Christ. The reason she didn’t get enough votes is people have not accepted the message yet. Soon they will. We will have at least 40% Christian Evanglical Sinhalese and Tamils by 2020. To do that we need to elect more evangelicals.

It is very sad that Rosy could make it, some one have written that Hon. Dr. thus iota Wijemanna can replace her, it is wonderful to gave her in the parliament from Sabaragamuwa PC but she can not replace Rosy, Rosy was the women in our parliament who is recognized locally and internationally not only for her looks but her very hard work, brains, political maturity, compassion and most importantly deep commitment to the well being of women children and the whole population. I know her very well and many others in the political arena but at the moment she can not be replaced,

It IS NOT FOR Rosy but for the parliament’s image SHE. SHOULD BE THERE,

So there are so many who thinks that Rosy Akka is highly educated. Can those who allege this prove what qualifications she has apart from been a beauty queen holding a few beauty pageant titles.

Wondering how on earth our idiotic lankan’s have forgotten the famous deals that Rosy had before she was she became a politico.

How remember’s the Famous “Lottery Deal” that Rosy used to conduct. Then her involvement with Mrs. Premadasa?.. Rosy is a born again maniac like the rest of all “born agains”.

For those who rant and rave that she has done so much for owmen and children. Kindly provide proof. She did bugger-all.

If at all she has done so much, why are there still so many rapes and molestations taking place. Has she even talked about implementing the “DEATH PENALTY” for rapists and child molestors. Has she even done one good deed towards any rape victim.

Did she even visit the parents of the last school girl who was raped and murdered in jaffna. What about the recent rape of another teenager that took place down south, what has Pretty Rosy done.

The Victims are the cared for after the ordeals they face. Is there a facility in sri lanka that deals with such traumatic cases. Has Rosy done anything about implementing such facility?.

Only establishing punishment for the perpetrators are not enough. The most important is caring for the Victims the right care needs to be given to them, most times they are just sent to a hospital for physical treatment and then sent back. What about treatment to their emotional, and mental trauma. There has to be a facility that tends to such matters. HAS ROSY even bothered to implement such!… NO

She talks and talks and smiles her pretty smile and many fools are enthralled with her looks.

What did she do when she was appointed HC Malaysia?

Our masses are real asses how a pretty face can fool them all.

This is karma coming her way – she used her office to suppress the official investigation by the Women’s and Children’s Bureau against Rajitha’s son abducting an under-age girl. She being a mother herself should not have done that. No other person can abduct an under age girl and go scot free but Rosy allowed Rajitha’s son to do that. More karma coming for Rajitha too.

Here, it seems all the Indians are voting against Sri lankans not with intelligence but solely with discrimination. It is evident how some Indians humiliate Sri lankans but with absurd and abusive language. The truth is Sri lankans know that the Colombo telegraph is a LTTE – oriented news dealer, therefore opertates from a foreign land as they are illegal to function here; resulting the violation of Sri lankan law and provoking racial discrimination. So, do not worry you Indians, you are welcome to see the difference, we see it at the very moment when we land in your country. All the best.
