Droll Stories Of Gota’s Lockdown

By Kumar David

Prof. Kumar David

The cockup of transport arrangements and of curfew “relaxation” on Monday 11 May could have cost Gotabaya Rajapaksa the expected election walkover. Exasperation has not come to the point where those who voted for him last time will all switch to Sajith or Ranil – a waste of time – but what I hearing in the last three days from people at the grassroots is, “api chende dena yanne naha; mahataya balanna, godak kattya me sare chande denne natha”. (We won’t go to vote; a lot of people won’t vote this time). The grassroots in Colombo and Gampaha Districts and perhaps beyond are fed up with the way the administration has buggered things up.

This is contra common sense one might think, given that the curve has flattened and the virus brought pretty much under control. But I am prepared to bet a bottle of the old stuff that the rate of abstention in the next election will be the highest since independence. Apart from not wanting to be exposed in public places, a lot of people who voted for Gota last time are now demotivated. Racists and rascals in yellow robes won’t find a ready response to chants of “Burn the Humbayas and tame the Demalas”.  Gota’s poropaya bunch will probably win, but the margin will not be large.

There are good reasons why ‘the lower orders’ are cheesed off; they bear the brunt and pain of lockdown and curfew. Here is what they say; I have plenty of contacts.

1. They said we could go to work but we were kicked off trains. We have to produce a letter from our employer and have it registered at the cop-shop. To get a letter we have to get to the workplace in the first place!! Which comes first, the bloody blindfolded chicken or the rotten egg?

2. They said there would be busses for us to go to work. What buses? Where? We are prevented from walking and told to come in our own vehicles (BMWs and Pajeros?) to bus starting points. Buses would be to central locations from where vehicles (Jaguars and Bentleys?) would convey us to our vadapola.

3. I am daily-paid (davas kuli). From which mother’s son (actual terminology unprintable) am I to get a ****** (unprintable) letter?

4. Oh yes, sons of prostitute big shots in government, company types in ties and fancy ladies, every one of you has a permit (that’s true I have checked around). You drive around and in and out. It’s us small yakos who are cooped down, harassed by the police and threated with arrest and a fine (dhada gahanavalu). No money to feed kids, now pay a fine!

People at grassroots are now more afraid of the police than the corona – what a pass it has come to. The poor are denied their tipple as well. A pluperfect “booruwa” in Excise named Gompy Kumarasinghe issued a statement: “Liquor shops were opened when curfew was relaxed, there were huge crowds. So, we decided to close them down again!” God forgot to give this donkey a brain? What the incident proves is that shops have to be open for the longest possible hours to meet market demand; asses draw the opposite conclusion.

The lockdown imposed by Gota is illegal. To be lawful it has to be Gazetted or issued under emergency law and brought before parliament. Instead he is using the pandemic to seize power. He has dismissed calls to recall parliament and is even undermining Mahinda & Sons Inc. Corona in a chance to push everybody aside and rule without heed to parliament, cabinet or public. He imposes curfew upon curfew without regard to hardships of the poorest; day-wage earners and workers. Gota is tied to the military and has a reputation for ruthlessness. His despotic inclinations reappeared with the outbreak of the pandemic. Hand in hand with the military he has used presidential decrees to arrogate unconstitutional power to himself.

Little anti-Gota discourse is allowed. The media is a vehicle for government propaganda; the authorities treat the public like mushrooms (‘keep them in the dark and feed them shit’). Chairperson of the HRCSL, Deepika Udagama told the Actg. IGP that arresting people for criticising officials and policies, violates the constitution. As of 17th April, 17 people had been arrested for posting “malicious content” on social media.  It is no surprise that the group called the Alliance of Independent Professionals prefers to remain anonymous. At the end its fourth report there is a link to three previous reports which are also worth reading. I cannot vouch for the group, but the reports are sufficiently interesting to warrant attention. You can access the fourth report here.

Kumar, this is getting really scary, especially because I’m comfortable in a calm place, in no real danger myself.

It’s good to have a man of your calibre to tell things to.
    .
    This talk really scares me.

Not because he’s nasty or dangerous individual, The mismatch between his personal decency and what he has to do. He just can’t and see, and listen, to himself what a dangerous position he is occupying.
    .
A scheme like the final digit of the identity card number didn’t seem absurd to me. Had people been told to evolve a strategy to keep 80% of the people off the streets, and presented as something we all had to do voluntarily, without arrests and confiscation of vehicles, we may have got somewhere – and we still may. But imposing this curfew will never elicit anything other than just a display of co-operation.
    .
The outlook is as grim as can be. I have food, but others, even up here in Uva are starving – with vegetables displayed cheap. A third of the people just haven’t got money to buy.
    .
How much worse in Dehiwela – I can imagine.

      Mr Sm,

      Dont forget your daily exercises.
Please take good care of you. I got to watch a video clip of an elderly woman in her 106 years. still living in your area.

There are various factors that prevent you from being infected by the virus.
Unlike west europeans, we had the luck to get vaccinated with BCG. That and several other factors are discussed by world virologists today. Germany has been a model country for them and reports prove that east germans (BCG vaccinated) are not easily infected by the virus while western germans (no BCG vaccinated) are becoming vulnerable. Even if the rate of recovering in Germany is over 90% compared to 10% – 30% in the US , UK and many other countries in Europe.

Apart from genetics, eating culture and various other factors on the list of the virologists.. that ve yet been struggling to find lot more abou COVID 19. Until a clear pic of the virus would not have been made, finding proper medicine is not realistic.

Rajapakshes are world champions to mislead the very same nation. The place given in lanken society to BUDDHAGAMA is the trick.
      .
This picture or similar pictures showing their religious affinity is instrumental in order to manipulate the poor masses.

Have you guys ever heard these men to have donated their salaries for the benefit of the poor of poor in this country ? Never. Buddhists I got to know would always give… but these men wasting the funds of the tax payers, have been doing all bad to the nation from the day we know them.
      .
Very same easy targets who dont even care even if the funds currently received to the govt would have been abused, unless they would not open to the nation

. Gullible masses are made to bleieve that anything would come from the govt belong to Rajakshe private propeties. So were their thoughts also until 2015.. That is why they repeatedly kneel down for that 5000 bucks.People should start realizing … these funds are their own money. #

      .
tell me as to why srilanken media stay mum even if all is clear that the govt received enough funds/donations all these weeks. Media s silence let the public perception be supported to Rajakshes … this is very dangerous

Why do the main stream media to allow govt to be kept away from the people ? what happend to RTI which was also introduced by previos govt ?

What happened to the media freedom that former govt introduced to the nation ?

Please forgive me for having seen these comments of yours only now on the 16th, about 9.45 am. I have now listened to both the Youtubes.
        .
In other words, I hadn’t looked at all this until long after I had seen “Walter Bagehot’s” response and my comment. Please study that exchange carefully. I will get back to this.

          Mr SM,
          .
Just leave that WALTER bagehot: Dimwit seems to be an another close to our most known Mrs Pasqual. Pasqual and his evasive responses are similar to that of hallozinated by preachers. No sense at all. Good luck to his families/circles.
          .
These men and their work on CT should be on a pay. I wonder why Champa did not turn up for sucha long time ? May be she is busy not being able to search for thoughts. Wimal WEERAWANSE is becoming a joker to the gallery today. None of what he resounded is the case in current govt’s acts. His so called “Arthikagathakaya” is the top offical also in current govt. ha ha.. how come… EIther Wimal W should be sick or totally mad not yet resign from the politcs.
          :
If they could stop our voices, then it should be a life-long dream.
Those who dont even sense the little – could come with the kind of comments. Instead of helping the poor/vulnerable/easy targets with facts and figures, what all these men and women have been doing is like adding hay to the fire. where on earth, the people fell on to millitarization from democracy ? The otherway around is the nature in TRIBAL AFRICA. East Germans are today more than happy to be free from their dictatorship. That is the nature of human species. This JVP and CUBANS have been realizing today.

Just when I was wondering where that ageing Marxist Kumar David, who waxed eloquent of the technical prowess of the LTTE in making little war planes, etc., contributed to the Tamil Net, worked to elect Yahapalanaya, and was ever ready to comment on the barbarism of the Sinhala Buddhists, being silent on all this, here he is – with fan club in tow!

Sly and Slimy Pseudonymous Coward, you have said things lower down. I have replied to both your points – where’s your response?
        .
It’s you who brought the “Thomian Community” into all this. Professor Kumar David is a far more distinguished alumnus than you, but he makes no song and dance about it. Despite your pretence of a liberal background, I see that you’re a racist as well.
        .
What layers of irony! The Bandarawela Headmaster, Rev. Christopher Balraj, is fitting company for you. At the Bandarawela Police Station on the 13th February 2020, he told the HQI of, Mr Jayatillake, that the “Manifesto” that I had distributed on the 17th January 2020 was such that it would rouse racial hatred.
        .
I could guide you to the full text of that Manifesto, which is to be found on Colombo Telegraph, but it will be a tedious process. I will undertake the task if you challenge me to it.
        .
I’m sick of your half-truths and downright lies.
        .
If you want to first write to me here’s my e-mail address:

However, I give no promise of secrecy to a crook like you.

          1

          SM:

You have cunningly left out the fact that the reason you were at the police station in the first place is that you forcibly entered the premises of the Bandarawela school without permission on a school day and then tried to secretly distribute your ‘manifesto’, uninvited among the staff, thereby trying to gain unfair advantage over the other candidates? In other countries, entering an operational school of young children could have been seen as trespassing or a worse offense (criminal) but I expect you got away thanks to the leniency of our laws.

Similarly, you reached out to the most inexperienced staff at another branch school (after the administration had been kind enough to let you in) and tried to cunningly plant your ‘manifesto’ among the staff by using them as a distribution tool unbeknownst and without permission from the school. However, this backfired when they immediately reported it to their seniors and you became a laughing stock among all the staff. Not even a former Bandarawela Thomian who is well known for his grouse against the administration and for leaking information (probably to you) could save you there.

Fortunately such gentlemen as Mr G Dias were elected in your stead and will hopefully operate without your style of hidden agenda.

            PART A

Thank you very much, cowardly “Bagehot”,
            .
I don’t understand your motives, but the more you write, the clearer it must become to readers that you are a knave intent on slandering me.
            .
But that is if anybody other than you is going to read what I’m now writing. I have no illusions. The average Sri Lankan is sick of hearing about S. Thomas’. There are more important issues before us. The effect of what Gihan Dias (perhaps unwittingly) and you (wittingly) are doing is to further damage the reputation of S. Thomas’. We may have great love for our school, etc, but the man-in-the-street hates our school and our great opinion of ourselves.
            .
Having, therefore apologised to the general readership, let me correct what you have said:
            .
The Bandarawela school was founded by W.T. Keble on the 20th of January 1942, and there is a “Founder’s Day Anniversary Celebration” every year. The School website carried a notice saying that this year there was going to be only a communion service on Friday, the 17th morning. You will have to ask Balraj why he didn’t have it on Monday, the 20th.

            PART B

I have already stated that I don’t attach must importance to either myself or to these Board of Governors Elections. However, to account for the early date, this possibility has struck me.
            .
The Communion Service is usually followed by a General Assembly where a different Old Boy each year extols the virtues of W.T. Keble. Balraj has been scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for Old Boys who can speak fluent English. It has been suggested to him that I be asked – he refuses! I am Keble’s Godson. The school had classes upto Standard Five in our time, and when Keble left I was in Grade Three (yawn! Is this interesting?). Furthermore, Keble lived just behind this house that I now occupy. The school foolishly sold the property fifty years ago.
            .
I have more first-hand knowledge of Keble than anybody else around, and people feel that I speak better English than the sorry specimens who sometimes come to me for gen on Keble. Got it, idiot?
            .
I saw the notice inviting Old Boys, Parents, etc to the Service on the school website. So, I was invited and had permission to enter the school.

            PART C
            .
Balraj was conducting the service with two other priests; the little Chapel was full, about forty Christians of various denominations (mostly Catholics) about fifteen Staff – and nobody else. It is now difficult for Balraj to persuade Old Boys to take any interest in the school. This is the sad state of affairs that prevails.
            .
Seeing that the Communion was being given by the two other priests, I decided to receive it. Had Balraj been giving communion, I could have snubbed him. If Balraj was giving the wafer, I could snub him by crossing my arms on to my shoulders ( get it? Never mind if you don’t! ). If I didn’t accept the “Body of Christ”, I was not expected to receive the blood, because flesh and blood are always mixed – but it was doubtful whether the priest carrying the chalice would know that. Nevertheless, it goes against the grain for me to play such tricks on Pharisees – and I have by no means taken up the position that all priests are humbugs.
            .
Anyway, with Balraj remaining at the altar, I received Communion.

            PART D

At the end of the service, the priests stand at the entrance to the chapel and shake hands with all those from the congregation who emerge. I proffered my right hand – I had considered using my left (want the explanation?), but I decided “to behave”.
            .
All this ought to make you understand that I’m no idiot who acts without thinking. We lingered for no more than five minutes, while I chatted to those teachers whom I knew, and then Balraj went off to his office, and I made a bee-line for the Primary Section, where almost every class had a teacher. No teacher was “disturbed” for more than twenty seconds, whilst I handed over a copy of the “Manifesto” which I had already e-mailed to all three Headmasters, the Bishop, etc. and which stated that there were to be copies to all “Staffs”.
            .
Did I get permission to distribute this Manifesto? No, and that was deliberate – I have a modicum of intelligence, you know.
            .
The senior students were on the playground, practising for the Senior Sports Meet, their teachers with them. Each teacher was given the Manifesto – no disturbance

            PART E
            .
This is tedious! Cutting short, I encountered Balraj and fellow priests breakfasting in the dining hall. Balraj gave me a rueful smile and told me that no matter what he does, I seem to get things done. I said that I had to be resourceful and that I’m no idiot. He said that he knew that I was no idiot.
            .
I continued to distribute – to the Office Staff, etc. I had arrived for that service at 7.30 am in “fancy dress” – you know lounge suit and College Tie. I left about 10.00 a.m. after I saw the Security Guards coming. In adding that, I’m trying to be absolutely truthful.
            .
The confrontation at the Police Station was because I made a complaint. The “Senior Schools Sports Meet” was finally held on Friday, the 31st January. Again a Public Occasion, Very much so. Lots of parents – my estimate is at least 3,000 spectators, and upwards of 500 vehicles parked outside the school. I didn’t bother with lounge suits, just the distinctive college tee shirt and college cap. I was not allowed through the gate.
            .
I made a bee-line for the Police Station.

            PART F
            .
The constable at the Police Station was an ignorant ass. I mean that. He had to be ordered to take down my complaint, and I think that it is important that you understand this.
            .
Initially, he thought that it was the now government-run S. Joseph’s College, Bandarawela, that had denied me access. Then he told me that S. Thomas’ was a Private School and that they could do as they pleased. You well know that such is not the case. “We Thomians” like to give ourselves airs, and forget this case:
            .

            .
Other readers, even on this forum, may not know that we are governed by the Regulations of the Education Ministry. They will find that judgement rivettingly interesting. Suffice to say, I got over that. In all fairness, I think that I must write another article on this subject when people are less distracted by this Coronavirus.
            .
There’s something terribly vulgar about this sense of entitlement that makes people like “bogus Bagehot” to speak of “Thomian Community” – and then he spouts racism which is the one thing that special circumstances usually helps us to overcome.

            PART G
            .
Correcting something that I said in Part B: I meant to say was that the outcome of that election was not important to me. Holding a free and fair election was extremely important.
            .
In response to my complaint, the HQI wanted the Headmaster and the Security summoned. Only two Security guards turned up the first time. It went entirely in my favour because of a childish thing that I did! I produced my Birth Certificate which states that I was born in that school. It is admittedly an irrelevancy, but unfortunately, that’s the level at which one has to work to get results in our society. The typical “Old Boy” today thinks that teachers are inferior beings. It may be slightly less true of Kollupitiya.
            .
As for me, I know the Vidyalayas and the Maha Vidyalayas well, having worked long in them. The moment a teacher joins the school he has to be respected. I don’t get the full co-operation of the Old Boys Association owing to my consistent and sincere adherence to this principle. The Gurutalawa school exists today only owing to the intervention of my Belgian neighbour, Jacques Huyghebaert, and myself in 2007.

            0

            PART H
            .
Contrast with Balraj. He left the school in 1981 – the same batch as two boys who sat and passed A. Level English, taught by me in the afternoons, at the behest of the then Headmaster, SLA Ratnayake. No student has sat the subject since then although parents enroll students expecting good English. Balraj has not yet joined the OBA; and even after he has been made the Headmaster his younger brother hasn’t.
            .
The entire text of Manifesto is to be found in a four-part comment, uploaded that very day I distributed it:
            .
            https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/royal-institute-defence-secretary-rules-above-supreme-court/
            .
When Balraj arrived on the next occasion with his henchman, Steven Tambimuttu, it was four hardcopies of this document that I passed around the table, and which Balraj stated (at some length) to be something that roused communalism. In this company, the HQI was more cautious; despite my challenge, all that he could say was that I would have to file civil action.
            .
Decide what you want to about the lying of this Priest-Headmaster. Rev. Philip Nesakumar at Gurutalawa is no more truthful. Please study this article and the comments, it’s all there, as I’ve said:
            .

            0

            PART I
            .
With regard to the school in Kollupitiya, Rev. Dushantha Rodrigo is emphatically a decent person. It is true that I expressed disappointment that he had not distributed my Manifesto as he told me he would, but I can well understand his dilemma caused by the duplicity of the Bishop to whom he has sworn an oath of obedience.
            .
I left the Manifestos with the Secretary for distribution. There was neither secrecy nor tension when I visited the canteen on two days, after obtaining permission. Dushantha actually came there to meet me. I complimented him on his excellent plastic recycling project. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I have had a number of cordial telephone chats with him – one lasted 58 minutes. And we have exchanged ideas and material. Please check with him. I wouldn’t venture to call him a close friend yet, since we have met only on a few occasions, but we respect each other.

The Mt Lavinia school was not involved in this election; Rev. Marc Billimoria, the Warden there is actually a friend. It’s the same Board of Governors. We discuss Education. He recently sent me this article:

And that is what you are talking about, “Bagehot”. This is a world removed from what I’ve been telling you has been happening in these two Uva Schools.

He conducted the election properly.

    Prof. David
As usual, keep writing as if you know grass root people thinking. Yes. they may have genuine issues. However, they must understand at desperate times desperate measures are required. When the society is so undisciplined, this is what happens. If people listens to the advice and behave keeping social distancing and high hygiene levels, then these measures are not required. This is why counties like New Zealand and Australia are winning this battle. You are tying to blame GR and the Government for this. You are saying actions are illegal. The doctrine of necessity will protect GR under the law. Why not you guys go to Supreme Court complaining Curfew enforcement? You don’t because you will lose. Don’t try to extrapolate you talks with a few Vanathamulla chaps as general public opinion. People will come to vote in numbers and SLPP will win. However 2/3 will depends on you guys. As long as you guys write these rubbish assessments, SLPP gets closer and closer to 2/3. Only GR wants is to translate CT articles and distribute among public free of charge to prove, how the west, diaspora and NGO backed forces try to derail national agenda of Sri Lanka. So, please keep writing.

According to your theory, the seven judges of the Supreme Court who determined 2018, MR’s 52 days government was illegal are so called eminent Tamil Judges under the Sinhalales names because in your books no Sinhalease judges are not the finest. Are they still there? This is what happens when racist thoughts take over minds. This is why Sinhalese people are suspicious of Tamil behaviour. You can not fathom Rajapashas’ defeated LTTE. You guys will never recover until you accept for greater benefit for all Sri Lankans, it had to be done. Innocent tamils who were willingly or unwillingly associated with LTTE were also perished. LTTE had to take the blame for that rather than the government.

In villages, agents of politicians keep a close eye on fellow villagers when an election comes around. They not only bully voters, but make sure they go to the polls. If they don’t, they will be black listed and reminded over and over again that they did not vote for “our man” or “our party”.

What voters should do, or be trained to do, is to go to the polls and spoil the vote.

    Kumar David,
Who are these people at the grassroots?

Mafia members behind the ‘Regime Change’ who are really upset with the ‘Regime Change’ brought by Sri Lankan voters reversing their ‘Regime Change’ in 2015. They are desperately trying to put ‘Road Blocks’ to prevent President Gotabhaya Rajapakshe moving forward.
As the old Arab proverb says ‘Dogs bark but the Rajapakshe caravan moves on’.

The guys who will not vote belong to Dr. Bond’s and Mr. Padman’s camps. They are really disgusted with the decision taken by them and JVP, not to attend the meeting called by PM Mahinda Rajapakshe to discuss challenges faced due to COVID-19. Your 3% guys might end up becoming 1%.
The question they ask is ‘Is it really necessary to sit in the Parliament wasting millions of tax payers’ money to tell their ideas, if they had any ideas’.

“what I hearing in the last three days from people at the grassroots is, “api chende dena yanne naha; mahataya balanna, godak kattya me sare chande denne natha”. (We won’t go to vote; a lot of people won’t vote this time). The grassroots in Colombo and Gampaha Districts and perhaps beyond are fed up with the way the administration has buggered things up.

      .
had Rajapakshe been in opposition, today you would have seen protest marches, riots on islam, protest of former army men, protests of undergraduates and so on. But today, the opposition though make their voices being away from all the protests the way BPs then did .

Silent masses will show them, in next election for sure.

An excellent witty article which hit the nail hard on the head of the kallathoni modaya of the highest calibre president who has to behind bars in a jail somewhere in the Hague.?
    =
During the 2019 presidential poll, he was able to take 6.9 mainly MKR { modayata Kimbre rattharan fools who mainly sit shit on their tiny midget of a tiny brain to unwittingly vote for him the world’s best pulli gonna.
    =
He then used his presidential powers to dissolve the real democratically elected parliament which had many a month to run.
    =
This was done to swim with the tide to obtain the 2/3rd majority very badly needed to get rid of the vexing to the rajapuka’s 19th amendment and to by hook or by crook secure the 2/3rd majority much sought after to tinker around with the constitution etc.
He also began appointing his ex-military goons or mini maruwo murderous war criminals to run the Kota Uda no money Kota Uda land with the sole aim of making it the military rajapuka.

      rj1952,
“An excellent witty article which hit the nail hard on the head of the kallathoni modaya of the highest calibre president who has to behind bars in a jail somewhere in the Hague.?”

Mahinda Rajapakshe and Gotabhaya Rajapakshe deserve to get Nobel Prize for peace for liberating Sinhalayo, Demalu, Muslims and others in Sri Lanka from megalomaniac Prabhakaran and LTTE Tamil terrorists who terrorized this country for three decades.

The way these two heroes who gave leadership to defeat LTTE Demala barbarians display the ‘hypocrisy’ of some members of the International Community.

Are you denying the fact that the rajapuka’s in their desperation to win the war which they tried to in 2006, used many a banned unconventional war method to defeat the Tamil folk.?
Why are they along with their brave when they fully mightily armed to the core murderous rapist robber among other crimes afraid to face up to an international unbiased war crimes enquiry or a tribunal.?
        WHY.?
        =

Unless you tell what these banned unconventional war methods are, it is not possible to accept or deny your charges because descendants of ‘Para’ Dravida slaves have a very good record of fabricating stories to tarnish the image of Government of Sri Lanka, its Armed Forces and Native Sinhalayo.

        What Nobel Price ?

We have never heard high criminals would be shortlisted as potential Nobel laureate candidates ? Anyways, ultra slaves would never study it before passing it evasively.

For having killed notherners and southerners deliberately – should they be awarded with such prizes ? ( e.g. ruby player, Lasantha W, Ekanaligoda, 23 prisoners, 49 journos and and ?)

Not a single person in their cabinet is obviously not free from high crime allegations. That BP Mahindananda to have bought a house in London came up during the last 4.5 years but it buried under the carpet again to the very same manner Basil rajaakshe gamapa palace and its ownership ended up. Leelagemalli,
Although Native Sinhalayo were the prime target to slaughter by Piripakaran’s LTTE coolie terrorists, records show that LTTE killed more Demalu than the number got killed in the military operation by Sri Lankan Armed Forces to eliminate LTTE.
It is not a secret how LTTE barbarians eliminated people belong to all other Demala organizations and people who stood against them including politicians in order to claim that they are the sole representatives of Demala people. Piripakaran was like Hitler or Pol Pot. Killing was his hobby. Demala people should be eternally grateful to Rajapkshes for liberating them from that megalomaniac crazy devil.

              Native (Fake) Vedda,
It could be that Sinhalayo evolved from Homo sapiens who lived in southern part of Sinhale around 125,000 years ago and gradually moved to Northern part of the country to engage in farming moved to Southern part of the sub-continent as well and settled there before Dravidians moved to the South due to invasions from the West.
Ruthless Dravidians who moved to the South may have destroyed those Sinhala settlements before they destroyed Sinhala Kingdoms Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. If this is what happened, Sinhalayo could be the first settlers in the area that is called Tamil Nadu now.

Prof. Raj Somadeva should do further research on this.

        :
Where law and order is placed above, you have almost no chance for high crimes the way srilankens are used to. See, that murder of young ruby player – Wasim Thajudeen – was no different to that of Jamal Khashogi who was dismembered in the Saudi Embassay in Istanbul, Turkey 18 months ago ?
This murder was masterminded by Rajaakshes family, as I got to know from my info – IGP someone was kept in the prison over 12 months or longer, however, stupid Sirisena did not allow the interogations with Shiaanthi Rajakshe for some hidden reasons.
So called investigative Journalism of lanken media failed to reveal not an inch further. Not just law and order but media mafia ruin this country should be made responsible for all the mess.

if you look at the tourists the way they behave themselves in SL or anywhere they travel to – are totally different that they would respect their laws in Europe. That clearly shows it is the enforcement of rigorous law and order, you can tame – homo sapiens. Independent police commission is just the name, but they are far from their independent actions. How can we on the other hand expect abusive police to act properly ? More graduates should be appointed as police offiers.
          :
One of my colleagues who lived long in Singapore, on his return to the island went on saying, if any govt would double the salary of police and improve the quality of police service only we can reduce high crime rate in the country.

            LM
Problems of law and order have been aggravated by the politicization of law enforcement and judiciary especially since JRJ.
The police are a law unto themselves in most countries. The poor and oppressed minorities in the US are at the receiving end. I am not exempting Britain. You hear nothing about such experiences except through the alternative media. The mainstream media talks abut any when the issue becomes a scandal. Even then the matter is reduced to erratic conduct of a person or two, and protecting a racist and politically guided police establishment.
I can assure you that increasing salaries will not improve any service. Doctors and teachers will do private work. Engineers will collect bribes and so will the police.
Unless the ‘customer is always right’ policy is adopted in state institutions, those in position will abuse their position.
There are no simple answers. Many should have learned this from the experience of the Yahaplana regime.

I think improvement of awareness of the people could help a lot. But that is a long process. So long media would work that biased to their pay masters, unbiased info would not flow to the public. Just imagine, all is now clear over 1200 millions of dollars of more flew on to the country by various institutions. Even if it was a lie, but PM and his secretaray made it in public that nothing is received yet. -Though these are utter lies, as usual, people stay mum. so do the so called srilanken type investigative journalists… ha h ah.. not even SIRASA would not raise it on and on even if they painted the bond scam losses as if occured for the first time in lanken history. Actually, the term “bond transactions” became known thanks to last govt.

This is partly why Trump won:

“(WASHINGTON) — A bipartisan Senate report released Tuesday confirms the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusions that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to sow chaos. Senators warned that it could happen again this presidential election year.

The heavily redacted report from the Senate Intelligence Committee is part of the panel’s more than three-year investigation into the Russian interference. The intelligence agencies concluded in January 2017 that Russians had engaged in cyber-espionage and distributed messages through Russian-controlled propaganda outlets to undermine public faith in the democratic process, hurt Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and help Donald Trump.” TIME

I am not sure if I entirely agree with you. On the contrary the latest evidence gives a different picture which is frightening.

    1) This is contra common sense one might think, given that the curve has flattened and the virus brought pretty much under control.

*** Who says the Curve has flattened. Have you not read the news from Wuhan where there is an outbreak. South Korea which lied and had the elections ( just like Gotha is trying) reported a surge in new cases 108 . There is no respite from this deadly virus until we find a Vaccine. According to the scientific community 18 months away.

    2) But I am prepared to bet a bottle of the old stuff that the rate of abstention in the next election will be the highest since independence. Apart from not wanting to be exposed in public places, a lot of people who voted for Gotha last time are now demotivated.

*** Dont count on that. Die hard racists who support Gotha will turn up Rain or Shine. Race card which Gotha plays better than anyone will withstand any adverse weather.

    3) Racists and rascals in yellow robes won’t find a ready response to chants of “Burn the Humbayas and tame the Demalas”. Gota’s poropaya bunch will probably win, but the margin will not be large.

      K
Do you know the scale of the new outbreak in South Korea?
Marginal compared to the ongoing spread in Europe (forget about the US). And they know the location.
China’s is even less, and the Chinese government is well informed.
S Korea and China are just being cautious: they are perhaps learning from the negative achievements of US and much of Europe.
      *
You say: “South Korea which lied and had the elections”
      What is your evidence?
Do you know that there was general consensus among parties about holding elections. South Korea also has a scheme for advance voting, which quite a few have preferred to avoid crowds on election day.

Come election day all that has to be said is “Minority will take over Silly Lanka soon” and that should get all those (hungry/angry) critical grass roots out of their hutch , en masse to elect that foreigner, who can save the country from foreign invasion.

Let us teleport ourselves to the time when Mahinda Rajapakse lost his Presidential election. There were enough compelling news that when Mahinda lost, on that night Defense Secretary Gotabaya wanted the military to take over. Unfortunately for him, the then Chief of Staff armed forces and the Attorney General did not support this move. This resulted in Mahinda calling Deal Ranil and they did a deal and Mahinda left. Basil and Gota ran off to USA.
It appears Gota never gave up that idea. He has been loading up senior government positions with retired armed persons and giving all key positions over money matters to Basil. We all know who Basil is. At a time when there is no threat to any armed forces members, Gota has been giving security detail to retired senior police and armed forces officers. Why such a move? May be in case of a military coup those officers can also be activated.
Although all these are speculations, the trend and the way the media is controlled / acting and the recent political and judicial moves clearly show, as we usually say “coming colour is no good”. Recently in one of the TV political shows it was stated that some middle east country has stopped giving aid to SL.

Boycotting elections has always proved to be counter productive. At the Presidential election between Premadasa and Mrs.B. JVP VIOLENCE AND UNSETTLED CIVIL CONDITIONS , proved to be favorable to Premadasa.

Again, in the 2005 Presidential election, boycott imposed by the LTTE on the Northern voter helped MaRa over Ranil.W.
People saying that they would not cast their vote at the next election to any party or candidate is only a reflection of their frustration in the current scenario, but will prove to be counter productive..The Rajapakse clan will sweep the Board even without Jilmart!

    SarathP,
    .
I agree how, in villages, the local agents ensure that people go to the polls, but I don’t advocate the spoiling of votes.
They should vote intelligently and strategically. Admittedly, a desperate hope, given the way all the Sinhalese votes coalesced around Gota and Sajith, with even AKD getting so few.
    .
For that, even the candidates are to blame.
    .
    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/was-the-presidential-election-free-and-fair-when-colombo-returning-officer-called-sajith-premadasa-the-son-of-a-donkey-asks-prof-hoole/
    .
The whole story is told there. Not one of the 34 defeated candidates could be persuaded to comment even ten days after the election.
    .
Pasqual, although I agree that to now rule out on the grounds that Gota was an American citizen would be difficult since the Ambassador has pointed out that relinquishment was effective from April 2019, the point is that Hoole was asked to hold his silence, and let a candidate raise the query. Proof was required from Gota at that point. At least when Hoole stated that in the article they could have responded. Note that I had repeatedly asked the one woman candidate to respond (see it’s all there) but she didn’t. On the phone I asked where she learnt her English – secondary schooling in England.

      Mr. Panini,
      .
This is how someone renounce a US citizenship.
Please note that this is public knowledge.
      .
You have to go to the embassy in Colombo and swear an oath………………
It says that the renunciation happens if this is accepted and approved by the State Department.
Then embassy issues a document called “certificate of loss of nationality of the United States”
GR’s citizenship is renounced from the 17th of April 2019.
And GR had this document from May 2019 onward. Well before nomination date.
US Ambassador herself announced that Federal Register list is backlogged and it has nothing to do with the date of renunciation.
      .
And now come the best part.
      .
      Please read carefully……….
      .
This is the document produced to election commission along with the cancelled passport. This being a legal document commissioners inspected and approved the nomination.
commissioners who agreed inside and cried outside are the real liars.
They have their political masters to satisfy.
They have minority manipulators to satisfy.
      And most important……
They have their ballooned egos to satisfy.
So they chose the easy way out by “agreeing inside and crying outside”
      .
And now comes the funny part……………….
      .
This is the document produced to SL courts.
      Guess by whom…..
      Not by GR
      Not by SLPP
      Not by GR’s lawyers…………

        Dear Chaminda Pasqual,
        .
Your comment has just come in. Instead of embarking on a long voyage of discovery, let me tell you what I remember of this.
        .
Yes, Gota had produced some document which the Commissioners had looked passed from one to another. I think that Hoole had said that he was the only one who had looked at both sides. Obviously, he ought to have got a photocopy made, but they hadn’t done that.
        .
I’m not joining in the guessing game, but I don’t think that you should conclude that the Commissioners are lying.
        .
I guess that you are going to keep us in suspense for a while, and then complete your response. The brief message below has also got displayed.
        .
I’m glad to note that you have begun to write to me more seriously. What people like me would like to see is more fairplay, and I must say that there are still many matters of concern for people who’d like transparency.

        Dear Mr Sinhala Man,
        .
Perhaps, you may respond to my question below:
Why is that srilankens address the Prefix Mr. + First name ?
        :
This is not common in Europe: We are used to call anyone with Mr. +Surname.
        .
This is bit irritating to me. I am asking this because you could give me a plausible explanation.
        :
Thank you.. take good care of you… during the week, I wont be able to add my post as had been before. We ve been working hard on getting new medical drugs/vaccinations.
        God bless Mr. SM !

          Dear leelagemalli,
          .
It is difficult to give you even an incomplete brief answer to that question!
          .
A typical Sinhalese tends to address a man as Mahattaya. He feels that the English equivalent must always be Mr. In the Sinhalese system there are no surnames. Some families got “Westernised” ages ago. From Portuguese times probably! Not many will even attempt an honest explanation, including the spelling. I’m supposed to be a “de Alwis Edirisnhe” frrom Baddegama; other southern families are Dias Edirisinhes, which is fine for them. Apparently, there are no Portuguese “de Alwises”. “de Silvas”, yes! Let’s come back to that! No electricity owing to rain. Must shut down note book soon.
          .
In the Maha Vidyalayas, I’m called “Pani Sir” to which I’m inured now! Cheers!

              SM,

It is heard no good in Europe, if you would usually address anyone with Mr/Ms +First name. If I would call someone – Mr Boris… instead Mr Boris Johnson or Mr Johnson -I think it does not sound normal in even TV discussions.
              :
Even TV moderators do that in SL – that is why I wanted to be sure through you – I consider you to be very good at analysing issues of this nature. So, thank you once again.
              :

            0

            Dear leelagemalli,
            .
This business of using names is extremely complex, and the subject itself is not suitable for “public discussion” of this sort. One never knows who will get mad!
            .
The Tamil-Hindu is quite simple and uncomplicated. E.g. First the father’s name: “Rajavarothiam” then the kid’s name: Sampanthan The disadvantage is that there’s no family name whatever – the grandfather has dropped out!
            .
In any case, isn’t it unfair by the mother? We could go on like this for hours!
            .
For us, Sinhalese, the typical system is a “ge” name. I think that most Sinhalese going abroad adopt that as their surname – sensible.
            .
But Boris Johnson and David Cameron were both in what is now officially called an “Independent School”, Eton College, but still misleadingly thought of as a “Public School” – very exclusive. They would call each other by the surname only: so, “Cameron”. They carry that into adulthood, but the average Brit wouldn’t use it that way! They resent it!
            .
There’s a lot of deliberate confusion engendered through the use of names.
            .
I think that you’ve got it right – better than me!

    PART TWO
    .
Pre-elections, I had requested Ajantha to solicit First Preference,
gave her and Nagananda a printed appeal at their first rally at the VMD Park, near Nelum Pokuna. All candidates asked for “kathires”. Prof. Kumar had kept urging 1) for AKD and 2) for Sajith in a dozen articles. I used to follow (like Mary’s lamb) with comments explaining that THREE PREFERENCES were available, although the middle one was not going to matter.
    .
There was little response to that – the minor candidates, at least, should have queried. There was plenty of choices there – realistic – but not at the Parliamentary Elections:
    .
    https://ceylontoday.lk/news-more/13083
    .
Right-click on the table to view the image larger. The Sinhalese captions notwithstanding note how many groups. An incredibly long (ten feet in some Districts?) ballot paper. We must ask voters to select the most honest as a long term policy, but preferences work differently in this election, and there will be only three groups for which voting will ensure representation.
    .
Machinating the Sajith and Ranil Groups into nominating separately, and refusing to recall Parliament so as to ensure that those lists stand even two years later, isn’t Democracy.

SM: Where are the millions that Nagananda cheated hundreds of people out of, amplified by your flatulent voice of encouragement?

Now that the Thomian community is completely done with you trying to infiltrate the board at all costs (even to the extent of slandering your own brother on public fora such as this) have you switched careers to being a political analyst?

      Coward,
      .
Why do you hide behind a pseudonym to insult me?
I do use a pseudonym but I shall sign off with my real name.

This is a famous essayist, whose name you have stolen.
      .
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Bagehot
      .
I have read some things written by him; I think that I liked what I read, but I can no longer recall it. Suffice to say that he was a writer always held in high esteem.
      .
I have seen comments made by you on CT but I have no vivid recollection of them. Yes, I have some vague recollection of your being connected with S. Thomas’ College.
      .
      https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/challenging-three-cheating-thomian-pharisees-and-not-doing-it-from-behind/
      .
That’s the last article that I wrote on the subject of S. Thomas’. My name and photograph are both there. I stand by every word in it. I have only one brother. Was he to blame for what has happened? Yes, but I have avoided putting all the blame on him; even now I repeat that he was to blame. Do you seriously contend that this is slander? Please quote from the articles or the comments that I have made there to prove your point.

      PART TWO
      .
      I won’t defend him, either.
A huge problem in Sri Lanka is that you cover up for the wrongs done by friends or relatives. I will not do that.
      .
Now for Naganada Kodituwakku. I still regard him as a very honest man. He had given a Bank of Ceylon, Nugegoda, account number, and I deposited a small sum of money in it. Anything wrong with that.? I have subsequently met him twice only. Once, very briefly in his Nugegoda Office; on the other occasion it was at Ajantha’s rally, as stated above.
      .
Did I encourage others to contribute to Nagananda’s fund? Yes. Lots of his speeches on Youtube programmes. I praised him in comments below them. If you contributed because of my “encouragement” you could blame me somewhat. I have no regrets.
      .
Millions? Well, yes. So little is the Sri Lankan rupee worth that the money collected may have been several million, but not a fortune. I still admire him for his courage, but I had told him that he was attaching too much importance to his “Autochthonous Constitution”. Nowhere in the world will you win an election by talking solely about such abstractions.

      PART THREE
      .
On one thing, I’m very clear: Nagananda was and is an honest man. You are a sly coward.
      .
I am grateful to Colombo Telegraph for having published my articles. When sending them this I had also sent three attachments, which I hoped would be embedded in the article. That didn’t get done – the fault may have lain in the way I sent them. They were not documents which are already on the Internet.
      .
I have just now, whilst writing, checked the links that have been included. All links to things that were on the Internet, and all worked even now, except the last.
that is not surprising since the list must have changed.
      .
The sham Thomian Election was held on the 6th of March. I expected the new Board to meet only after the 1st of April. What significance does April Fool’s day have? It was the day, in 1930, that the St. Thomas’ College Ordinance was enacted by the Legislative Council of Ceylon. Yes, the “t” was there in the name of the school at that time.
      .

      PART FOUR
      .
Giving you the link again to this legislation that only Parliament can change:

      http://www.commonlii.org/lk/legis/consol_act/stc489223.pdf
      .

Those are details of no significance, but let me draw your attention to an asterisk in the title. It is explained thus at the end of the document:
      .
      • Schedule omitted.— Private enactment.
      .
I haven’t the foggiest notion as to what that means. I don’t pretend to know everything!
      .
What I do know is that the two Uva schools are left unrepresented. I know nothing about this Gihan Dias. He may even be a good guy.
      .
The OBAs of the three schools had already elected Hiran Molligoda of the Kollupitiya OBU to represent the Branch Schools. Gihan Dias should not only be ashamed of the way in which he was elected, but also these Covid-19 travel restrictions make it doubtful that he will ever make an effort to represent the Staff of the Branch Schools
      .
I will submit this now, but I will have more to say tomorrow.
      .
Will the coward who calls himself Walter Bagehot respond in any way to all this? I don’t know: that is up to the said caitiff.
      .

  • 1
    1

    PART THREE
    .
For the Presidential, I did this much. I persuaded at least two women to secretly vote 1) for AKD, 2) for somebody, and 3) for Gota. They truthfully told their families that they had voted for Gota. If truth be known, there’d be murder. That’s the democracy that prevails here. Chiv, it’s been dinned into ignorant and incurious dolts that their votes are “valuable” – and so they vote like cattle.
    .
Even at the polling station, I stared long at the overblown ballot facsimile, urging voters to study before joining the queue. A few voters and the approving policewoman came – I was careful not to pick on any candidate as desirable, although I got away with saying that the rational thing to do was to place one of the big two in third position.
    .
The dismal tallies of 33 candidates prove that not many readers interacted with acquaintances in the Swabasha. I did it with strangers during seven-hour bus-rides to Colombo. For Parliament they will not want to waste their votes.
    .
Devise a strategy, please, Prof Kumar.

SJ, for your comment the answer is right below. Trust me I had all the answers for , anticipating your excuses. Now that you asked I am not sure whether others are truthful or not but they seems to have remorse which Lankans lack (by birth), its not just for truth, for everything what we think as right. No one is immoral as Lankans. If you have doubts look at your own history buddy. (30 years of war, insurgencies, Tsunami, Easter , Pandemic and ??????). Let me ask you a simple question. Why is that you keep comparing Lanka to others to know what is right from wrong ????. Is it to justify our wrong doings. One more thing buddy there are immoral people all over the world but fortunately majority are sane except for few like our shit hole country. GOT IT.

SJ, today news is Russia had 10 Thousand new cases in a single day, 100,000 cases in past two weeks, and now placed third in the list after USA and Spain. The death some how remains less than 2500 as in Lanka. Country which reported zero casualty (just like Lanka) for almost two months now seems to have in thousands. Is this all true ????You seems to have first hand infor on China, Russia, Venezuela and Cuba. China yesterday reported cluster of new cases in epicenter Wuhan which actually may take few more days for rest of us to figure whether it is actually cluster or a calamity.

      Chiv,
      .
it is very typical to Russia. there are the second champions to have performed that lot of PCR testing…
But thei recovering numbers are not even 10% compared to that of Germans whici is over90% as of now.
      .
In contrary, UK has not performed enough tests yet today, and their number of recovering patients are beyond estimation… however, our people back in our home country feel them to have managed it even if the numbers are on rise yet today. Lanken recovering numbers are also not exceeding 30% or so yet today.
      :
Germans are also worried of new patients with the govt allow even fitness centres and some restaurants to reopen.

Have you checked the sizes of the new Chinese clusters?
It is great news for Trump fans if the size is said to be two digit, even if it is just over 10. It drowns their sorrows (not about the victims) about their five figure daily infection rate and four-figure death rate.
I make no excuses for any. I do contest falsehoods in this forum overrun by weird forms of prejudice.
Too bad if I make anyone sleepless.
      *
As for Russia, there is a problem with spread rate. Russia should have been stricter on social distancing much earlier.
While Russia has nothing like the social security and health care under the Soviet Union, the death rate is low— way behind even Germany in absolute numbers as well as per million of population.

Yes you have clearly showing that now only you have found out that your Lankawe and China never gave any true number to you Grandma’s Reports so you only can giggle to downplay your dumbfounded proof. You bring all the chameleons crawling on the fences to your witness stand. Then bray louder than donkeys.

Yes! At the start of the lock down, even the author was very happy with the decisive nature of the government in dealing with the situation. So were many blaming that there would be a couple of thousands of deaths had the opponents won the Presidential Elections. (So did the Prof. in his characteristic style.) But now the situation has changed. The period of lock down dragged too far. The transport network does not permit the transport of all the required people satisfying the COVID 19 prevention guidelines. Now the people are “dead tired”. So the absenteeism as revealed by Prof. is not a surprise. Again! The decision makers do so while being in the Ivory Tower not touching the ground. His Axcellency once inspected to see a massive queue to enter a popular supermarket at the height of the crisis. HE must visit a bus stand and talk to the people who board the busses to get the feeling of WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON. I know of a chap who had only one meal a day and sometimes fast for the day. What do you expect them to do when it comes to their turn to vote?

Prof. Kumar has done one prediction with a bet. The analysis’s right and wrong is not really matter for us. In politics, like in science, every rain drop counts. Nothing gets discarded because it lost the bet or it is unwanted. All genuine efforts, based on facts enhance the understanding of the mass. Further, after Galileo, Socrates like cases, we no longer bother about right but leave it to time to determine, only respect the freedom of expression. If have been shutting down the wrong then and there, we would done it to Dalton 4 centuries ago and shut off Einstein ability to come out with E=MC2. Chemistry grew on Dalton’s invention and atomic research was built on that. This guided Einstein to propose his formula reversed Dolton’s theory. So, modern teaching focuses on students’ understanding and collecting knowledge rather than being attempting to spuriously accurate. So, we value a lot Prof. Kumar’s analysis, but we rarely eagerly awaits for his bottle, even if it is worth a million Dollars. He created the CC idea in 2015 election. Not just he, Madulawe Sobitha Thero, Chandrika, Sampanthar et al. The problem on that is a political ruler like Lankawe EP cannot be selected for single act.

So it paved way for politically most dishonest person in the history of Lankawe forming the Yahapalanaya government. KD later explained, “Yes wrong person came in, but white van gone; democracy returned”. Now even that is gone. Sad part, after New King, Sinhala Buddhist preferred a Hitler to rule them. In other words the purpose of democratic election in Lankawe is no longer to elect a ruler to the country but only to honor the most powerful royal family of that time. But none of these end results never made us not to read KD analysis looking for new understanding or new knowledge out of his mathematical formulas.
During LTTE war American Navy used satellite to trace LTTE ships. That time American experts conceived the theory of the China’s String of Perl. This was the reason for America’s Pacific-Indian Ocean initiatives. Until then American Navy concentrated only in South China Sea. That time neither Sonia’s India nor Old King’s Lankawe entertained that theory. This was a factor for West to get interested in regime change in Lankawe, while improving their relationship further with India. I don’t want to write lot on that topic. Further, I already have written something on Mr. Muttkumaru’s essay too.

America released King from the hold of US citizenship. Many pundits were rather skeptical this goes that easy. It was a surprise for many to see in IRS’s April list the name “Rajapaksa Nadasena Gotabaya”. America blocked Ahimsha’s case in California court against King. But Jalia’s return to Colombo Court has not taken place. Jalia’s Colombo case is viewed as a rescue mission operation of Jalia from American legal system by Appe Aanduwa. Colombo media said Jalia is a witness in a case on King in US. Jalia was arrested in America on an embassy building embezzlement fraud. EU has taken Lankawe from its black list, one of the money launders’ heaven. These are confusing data for anyone to come to a conclusion of what the relationship between King’s Royal government & Trump Administration.
Beyond Prof. KD 2015’s CC story, we do know in 2015 West attempted a regime change. Earlier (2010) they tried using Ponny, but failed. So in 2015, they too, like Lankawe politicians and activists, concentrated on regime change better techniques, but caring less on whom the new regime going to be. This time local politicians did their best on eliminating Royals, but US and EU were just sitting and watching (Or even supporting Royals?). Could that be interpreted as their interest on regime change is gone or is that they gave up grandpa’s technique, which is the “thoppy throwing” thinking the monkeys too had their grandpas, but still active in the ring with a new technique. No all the grape not being able to reach is always sour for everyone.

Fully Agree with Prof David. An incompetent administration. Govt announced in Buses only 50% seats to be used to avoid contact. This was fine for the CTB. Would private buses run with 50% capacity? Govt could have announced that private buses can charge 50% extra bus fare for the time being, People stranded would have paid that as a temporary measure.
Then we sent planes all over to collect stranded Sri Lankans. This was a costly exercise but good for GOTA publicity. While bringing overseas Sri Lankans home, there were hundreds of Sri Lankans stranded in Colombo and suburbs. They are just being sent home- after 2 months.
We feel GOTA is incapable of governing, despite “weda karana viruwa” campaign. What has been achieved in his 6 month Presidency?
Apart from the Swiss Embassy affair, Nishantha Silva, jailing Ranjan Ramanayake, Patali, Rajitha that occupied the news for almost 8 weeks of his Presidency, nothing has been done. Of course the Galle Face land has been sold and a contract for Kurunegala highway has been signed (unsolicited bid)

“…the Galle Face land has been sold and a contract for Kurunegala highway has been signed (unsolicited bid).”
Can you give some particulars. The highway project I understand mostly involved Yahjapalanaya.
Which Galle Face land has been “sold” and to whom?
