Easter Sunday’s Suffering: Seeking & Finding Answers

The Friday Forum expresses solidarity with everyone who has condemned the brutal attacks on churches where people had gathered for worship on Easter Sunday, and on three hotels serving Easter Sunday breakfast that day. We stand together with our fellow citizens and offer our condolences to families, friends and visitors to our country for the loss of lives and injuries suffered in this cruel violence. We also express our condolences to the families of the police officers who lost their lives in responding courageously and immediately to this situation.

The churches destroyed were Catholic/Christian places of worship which were also venerated by people of different faiths. Their desecration and destruction are a loss to our country. The collective concern and response of government and the people at this time to the violence demonstrate that they share the grief of the Catholic/Christian community. The Friday Forum recognizes with admiration all those members of the Police and armed forces, professionals, support staff, and members of the public, who responded courageously and swiftly in preventing further violence and suffering. We appreciate all the religious and community leaders, including those from the Muslim community, who have publicly rejected extremism and called for interfaith solidarity. This response exemplifies the admirable capacity of our people, despite the fact that we come from diverse communities, to come together in a time of national crisis.

Nevertheless we owe it to all those who suffered this violence to ask the hard questions regarding the appalling lapses in national security that failed to prevent this carnage. Yet again it seems that our political leadership and senior public officials have failed the nation. We must hold them accountable and demand explanations if situations like these are to be prevented. Commissions of Inquiry have become an easy strategy to avoid effective responses.

The President, the Prime Minister, the Secretary of Defence and the Inspector General of Police must explain to the nation why the State intelligence agencies did not pass on the specific and detailed prior warnings and information on the impending violence so as to take preventive action. Why did the senior officers not bring this critically important information to the attention of the President (Commander in Chief and Minister of Defence), the Prime Minister of the country, and the National Security Council (NSC)? Why did the Prime Minister not attend the meetings of the NSC for several months? And why did the members of the NSC ignore the summons of the Prime Minister to a meeting even in this crisis? Why did the President leave the country without appointing an Acting Minister of Defence or communicating with the Prime Minister on vital issues of national security at this time? Why did public officials not share this important information of a possible terrorist attack with religious leaders and the public so that they could have taken measures to protect themselves? Public confidence in both these leaders of government and these officials has been seriously undermined by the events of Easter

Sunday. The arrogant response of the Secretary of Defence in the media in trivializing critical issues of national security must be condemned.

We cannot assume that there will be no repetition of these terrorist attacks. The President and government have the power, the duty and the responsibility to co-operate with each other, identify perpetrators and introduce a strong, effective system of national security. They must do so while respecting the core values of democratic governance and fundamental rights in our constitution.

We ourselves must resolve that this experience should not justify harassment of any community, or erosion of peoples’ rights on grounds of national security. We must, for the peace and stability of our country, reject ethnic and religious extremism in all our diverse communities.

We must also understand the lessons of history, especially Hitler’s rise to power, and reject absolutely the idea that the need of the hour is a strong, authoritarian and dictatorial leader. Leaders of the former government are arguing that they handed over to the new government a secure and peaceful country so that there would be no threats to national security. They must be reminded that they created the nightmare of disappearances, abductions and killings that left people in fear of their personal security. No political party should be permitted to exploit this horrific experience to promote a divisive and authoritarian political agenda. Our nation’s commitment to parliamentary democracy must be strengthened and not undermined, recognizing that some important and positive changes have been made in the last few years.

This is also an occasion to reflect on the political environment of our times. Have we not experienced yet again the entrenched weaknesses of the Presidential system of government? We have created two centres of power, the President and the Prime Minister, that function without accountability to each other or the people. We have now seen how this system creates a grave threat to public security and can contribute to this kind of carnage and loss of lives and property, and the devastating impact on livelihoods and the economy. Is it not time for us to demand the dismantling of the Presidential system of governance that practically every political party has promised for decades?

We can already see how the Presidential ambitions of those who seek this office can cripple governance. The Presidential system, has always encouraged personal ambition rather than commitments to the wellbeing of the nation. What hope is there for a country that is trapped in the personal ambitions of its leader? Should we not in solidarity call with one voice for widespread

support for a constitutional amendment to abolish the Presidency before the next election?

A weak government with a puppet PM and Clown President, both corrupt, morally and intellectually bankrupt, and power hungry, have enabled foreign interests to slowly take control of Sri Lanka, its economy and security.
The Hollywood style “Shock and Awe” attacks in Sri Lanka along with narratives of retaliation for NZ attacks, and pictures of gruesome hooded villains need to be analyzed further and not taken at face value. NZ PM has dismissed the former story.
Another absurd story is that IS has declared that 70 percent Buddhist Sri Lanka is IS territory! This claim seems designed to get the majority Buddhist community involved in a spiral of violence against Muslims.
IS and or its handlers from the Empire seem to be panicking trying to make a convincing narrative. Most dangerously, foreign intelligence agencies are now crafting the “narrative” and may also be spreading fear psychosis to advance their own security agendas and this must be questioned and stopped.

There are deliberate efforts to spread lies, rumors of attacks, and keep the nation under fear. Sri Lankans MUST be aware of this and not react to the ugly fear mongering. Things can get worse if we do not stay united.

Reuters news agency has been coming up with all sorts of dodgy “human interest” stories about the suicide bombers with dramatic photos of the villains and their life style..
There are other Fake News agencies that write on the economy and promote the neo-liberal narrative to crash the Lankan currency and blame China for the IMF-Euro-bond-ADB debt tap that Sri Lanka is in.
Also, some Japanese news agencies after Nomura Rating Agency published Fake News in ite Democles Index. Guess theJapanese Nomura sword of Democles has fallen on Lanka!

Easter Sunday Suffering and Finding Answers.

May all the victims in the Easter Sunday terrorism Rest In Peace.

Abolish the Executive Presidency. All it does is allow innocents to be executed by the Devil Satan following Wahhabi-Salafies and their clones, such as ISIS.

Still Sirisena and Ranil aspire to run to be Executive presidents.

Wahhabi/Salafi Saudi Arabia, the First ISIS, Iblisic State that made it in Arabia.

ISIS, the second Iblisic State that did not make it in Iraq and Syria.

They all follow the Devil, Satan, Iblis per prescient Hadith of Najd. Just Google.

        Friday Forum and CT,

Now that the Devil, Satan following Wahhabi-Salafi clones, have had their fill of Catholics and Tourists, they want to get back to their fill of Sufis.

What is the crime of the Sufis? They love God, which the Wahhabi-Salafies and their clones do not like, because the Wahhabis Love Satan, Iblis.

Looks like the Wahhabi -Salafies and their clones are under the spell of Satan. They can’t wait to get to hell.

I think this whole thing about Sufis is a canard spread by Moslems to get sympathy. Don’t believe this rubbish. This is Al Taqqiya at its best to subvert and deceive the poor unbeliever until they can deal them the next deadly blow.

They are the terrorists trying to take political mileage. News item – “Sister of ringleader (Zahran Hashim) deplores attack.” True, wasn’t B.P. Old King and his brother (National Hangman) seen socializing (photographed) with Zahran Hashim and two other bombers. Truth is stranger than fiction! These M.F.s knew what was going to take place. No wonder Sillysena B.P. was away from the country. Ranilpaksha is also to be blamed.

There is an intrinsic defect in the Srilankan psyche. Think of one thing, tell one thing and do something entirely different. Totally out of sync. It is like the cat chasing it’s tail. Everything is all empty rhetoric.

Just like the Chagos islanders were brutally forced out of their island home not far south of Sri Lanka , 60 years ago, and are still displaced, even as their dogs were gassed by US marines and the UK, in order to set up a military base called Diego Garcia, Sri Lanka is being pulverized by the Empire in order to bring it into line with the Imperial will and project in the Indian Ocean Cold War against China.

      This is the grim reality

Simply these foreign agencies do their work in English and the
follow up in Sri Lanka is passed on to primarily Sinhala working staff. Everything is forgotten thereafter, in keeping with SL style!

As a former military officer involved in the war, I can clearly state that you obviously do not know what you are talking about?
Where do you think we got the Intel to detect the LTTE ships that were in international waters? Where do you think we got all our weapons and equipment from? Where do you think all the servicemen both officers and non commissioned officers (other ranks) get trained in specialised warfare both theoretically and in exercises? It is obvious you have never worn a military uniform and there is no expectation that all should. But it’s best that you comment on areas that you know and not venture into areas that you are not conversant with.
That’s is why a there is a distinct difference between how a military person (except a desertar or someone dishonorable discharged) and a civilian talks or conducts themselves especially about warfare.

Did Dr Ranil’s Minister of Christian Affairs attend the Good Friday Prayers and the Easter Sunday Mass?.

How Did the Digital Minister Harin skip the Easter Mass and stayed home and sort of bragged about how his dear Daddy’s Tip saved Him?..

As a good Catholics if he is, didn’t Harin have the decency of calling the Archbishop Malcom and telling him what he was doing on Easter Sunday ?.

How can Harin go to sleep now, when he obviously could have prevented most of those sad Deaths if not all, just with a Phone Call?

Is FF going take legal action against scum bags like Harin who helped Terrorists by keeping Govt Intelligence Report to himself?…

Did any of the UNP Ministers or even Mps attend Ester Mass or Good Friday Prayers?.

How come Dr Ranil go to Anuradhapura to assure safety and security tor the Methodist Bishop in Anuradapura ?,

But didn’t call the Archbishop in Colombo ?

Why did Dr Ranil hide the Intelligence Warnings about impending attacks on other Churches?..

Why Did Dr Ranil belittle this dastardly Crime by saying it is designed to Ruin his Yahapalana Economy and Development when made his first Statement?.

In this Hour of immense grief for hundreds of thousands of Inhabitants why did Dr Ranil wear his Dumb ass Smile , when the equally saddened Journs were questioning him?..

Why Did Dr Ranil ‘s mate and Minister Mangala Samaraweera mention how good his Economic Development, quoting even Bullshit Numbers in Parliament ,when Hundreds of the Thousands of poor Catholics and Buddhists are mourning their losses in life and their holy places in every part of the Country?….

The involvement of foreign investigators clearly proves the inefficiency of the Sri Lankan Police. The Police is inefficient because of political interference and infighting within the government. It is evident that the terrorists had links with some politicians Now that Sri Lankan government permitted foreign investigators they should also agree for a team of foreign judges to investigate HR violations

      Pon Kulendiran,
Invite foreign judges with the condition that they first investigate war crimes and human rights violations committed by Demala terrorists and Indian Peace Keeping Force. It is these two groups who committed all the war crimes and human rights violations while Sri Lankan Armed Forces saved Demala people who were used as a human shield by megalomaniac Prabhakaran.

The competition between former President, PM and current Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapakse, current president Mai. Srisena and current PM Ranil Wickremasinghe for become next President or PM is the main reason for the current problem. None of these are true patriotic to this land and people but their sole interest is on Power, become rich and their family at the expense of the Nation’s security. The October 2018 political coup is clear example to show how they cheat people and the nation. The country was united and peaceful during the period of different kingdoms, and under the rule of Europeans but why it is only after independence? Problems did not emerged themselves, they were created by a few power hungry wealthy western educated political leadership. They targeted the weakness of the people and they created fake fears about your life and the people are dying for nothing. None of the Gods (Buddha, Siva, Jesus or Allah) couldn’t do nothing to save the people.

The so-called Friday Forum and elites like them who live in ivory towers are as responsible for this kind of bastadry as the animals who carried them out.
    /
You mob periodically come down from ivory towers and air conditioned luxury motor vehicles to preach your absurdly unrealistic ideals about the American interpreted human rights and stupid and naive reconciliation ideas that do not take in to account the nature of different belief systems and the way they approach these issues to further their ulterior motives.
    /
Take in to your heads filled with neocon-formed theories that the middle eastern religions (Judaism and Islam) that are devoid of any ethics, and that practices an eye for an eye life philosophy are at the root of all today’s global problems. You propagate views that are tailor-made for the furtherance of these evil belief systems in different guises. People like Puswttes are good examples of this.

A few days ago, a SL journalist, when asked by Channel 4 News about the conflicting power bases of the President & PM, replied that the 19th amendment curtailed the powers of the President, perhaps, implying that the President is helpless, in which case, why do we need a ceremonial President whose upkeep is a burden to the citizens of this country? If there are stumbling blocks in the constitution to abolish the Presidency, can’t the people demand a referendum & force the govt. to act on the people’s’ choice? Of course if the majority prefers an ineffective & unaccountable President as the head of state, let it be so & accept the status quo.

I am sure even the stupidest voter realizes the problem of getting a President & a PM from opposing political parties to cooperate & coordinate their efforts for the betterment of the country instead of pursuing their personal agenda. It’s not rocket science to understand the only way to stop the blame game is by holding a single head of state accountable for the state of the country. It’s time civic minded people to the initiative to demand a better class of capable & ethical people in the Parliament instead of uneducated yobs & self serving crooks.

      Not in our name,
They come as refugees and start breeding like rabbits and later start demanding all kinds of things. Some of them might eventually turn against Sinhalayo.
Perhaps the young generation of Muslims may not be aware that the forefathers of the guys who carried out this massacre were given refuge by a Sinhala Buddhist King Senerath when Portuguese started slaughtering Muslims. At that time most of the Muslims who came to Sinhale from Hindusthan lived in coastal areas. When Portuguese started slaughtering Muslims King Senerath allowed them to move to interior parts of the country and settle down. But these ungrateful basta**s attacked a Buddhist procession leading to the first Sinhala-Muslim conflict. British used that opportunity and massacred a large number of Sinhalayo.
Many Muslims who were travelling to rural areas for trade worked as spies to British.
Now the descendants of those who were given refuge are trying to carve out a separate territory in the Eastern part of the country.
Sinhalayo have a nice saying about the behavior of Muslims related with their hat. So we do not want any more problems. Send them back to Pakistan or to Europe. Arabs, although Muslims do not take them.

The Esteeemed Friday Forum should also seek, among is answers, the reason for the rise of ISIS within Iraq after the crimminal invasion of that country by Bushmen.

It is true that our security forces should have been allowed to work to reduce the impact of these groups, I am sure they could have, given the proper guidance from above, but the trouble started elsewhere and this time it’s not our Sinhala Buddhists fault.

The Friday Forum should also allow voters to choose between a weak security system with their pet freedoms intact, or a terrorist free country with little freedom. We have have tested both. Please decide.

I would choose security over freedom.

Now is not the time to change the constitution

Alright, now you know how intelligence works in this island. Though the Hindians tipped off them in good time with specific information the intelligence operatives are caught napping.

Now they are in a hurry to cover their backs and produce results they would have already started arresting anyone and everyone with Muslim names. Take them either to 4th floor or to the old building where passport office was once situated behind Central bank where using all the usual creative techniques on innocent Muslims and make others join the ranks of Jihadis, then complain about a war.

Where are the Sinhala/Buddhist single handed generals who have been gloating about their war winning record and who assured us of total elimination of terrorism from the face of this part of the earth?

Don’t you think it was too early to gloat?
This time around it is not LTTE but an international network which has just begun terrorising the people of this island. Remember it has non stop supply of men and resources and nearly 50 years of shared experience.

We need sympathy, loads of it hence the the clan, their cronies, and the Sinhala/Buddhist fascist and single handed generals should keep their mouth shut at least until this island recoverers from the initial devastation and starts dealing with Jihadis.

Absolutely that Friday F…denied that has upside-down order of Parliamentary norms by Ranil Wicks.TNA and JVP.
In fact F..Forum that blindly follows leadership of UNP did not see on that system failure and Right voted is suppressed by that overall policies of RW of UNP.
So-called that regime of UNP led did NOT deliver nothing last 4 and half years. Indeed ongoing an Island Economic bankruptcy, Political destabilization of democracy, an undermined Right to Vote is responsibility and accountability of current regime discred by Friday Forum.
An open NEW PATH for Islam Terrorism by after 4 years & 5 months by the Rule of misdeeds of is product policies by Ranil Wicks and CBK mode of governance
It has never-ever address key issues of our society ,but not approach remarkable structural changes of governances of Island. By and large that UNP leadership even not that diagnosed practical problems of People living and its democracy. Failure to delivered improved livelihood of masses of people ,instead of that “UNP of governance” has turn into most corrupted Rule after 1948 independence. The UNP democracy has been invisible its responsibility for the Lost of 360 life and 500 casualties of noting for them.
Hence all key issue been that dodge by Friday Forum ….only worried about not life of security of the people , but they worried about that undelivered system of Parliamentary governance….???

Good morning Edwin Aiya. Sudu Veddah 4.1 here, now thel-free and smelling of Rani Sandalwood soap. How many Native Veddas are there now? They seem to be multiplying. I thought the original Vedda was seedless??

I think the Politicfians are to some extent backword. Because, the International community and”UNHCR, NGOs and Non-sinhala buddhists were active and they were singing a different TUNE. So,talk the ground reality. Understand the influence of International community, NGOs and people who supported those moves.

Friday Forum shows the vertical thinking in “Seeking Answers” to “Easter Sunday’s Suffering”
In paragraph 2: {” …..The Friday Forum recognizes with admiration all those members of the Police and armed forces, professionals, support staff, and members of the public, who responded courageously and swiftly in preventing further violence and suffering”}.
The Lankan Armed Services have not done anything. Are they waiting for orders?
    In paragraph 2: {“We appreciate all the religious and community leaders, including those from the Muslim community, who have publicly rejected extremism and called for interfaith solidarity”}
    Really? Hindu? Buddhist?
    The paragraph starting with {“The President, the Prime Minister, the Secretary of Defence and the Inspector General of Police must explain to the nation…….”}
This is a whinge. Friday Forum does not realise that the answer is there!
Nobody trusts anybody in this toxic atmosphere of ‘No Law & Order’.
    .
Do you feel, Prof. Savitri Goonesekere and in particular Bishop Duleep de Chickera, that the suicide bombers are victims in a different sense?

Location of Srilanka in the Indian OCean, NEeds of the west and a foreign intelligence and UNHCR are responsible. all the NGO and MCC, EU and GLOBAL HYPER STATE needs are the hidden hand behind. A Brave HITLER like PResident would have not resulted these.

All the two legged donkeys who gave their vote to ‘Hansaya’ should share the responsibility for what has happened to this country over the past four and half years. If it is not for Sira’s betrayal, thuppahi Don Juan Dharmapala (Reincarnated) would not have had a chance. He is doing exactly the same kind of things Don Juan Dharmapala did. Don Juan handed over the Kotte Kingdom to Parangi. Our Don Juan is trying to hand over the whole country to Uncle Sam.

Does the Friday Forum know that IGP Pujitha Jayasundera shielded Daham Sirisena and his cohorts from prosecution?

    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/i-saved-daham-and-his-veyangoda-underworld-president-wont-touch-me-igp-pujith-jayasundara/

This a strong reason for Sirisena not relieving the IGP of his duties.

I think the time has come Mahinda, Gota and Sarath Fonseka to come together and eliminate this
scourge of Islamic terrorists form our beloved mother land for ever. Mahinda and Sarath swallowed some drope which resulted in the jailing of Sarath Fonseka. They have to move forward and combine their expertise which they gain by exterminating the Ltte terrorists from our beloved mother land. The present leadership of Siresena and Ranil is not capable of doing this as they do not have a ticker in them to do it. Most Srilankans will be great full if this happens whether they are Sinhalese,Tamils,Muslims or whatever religion they follow. This scourge have to be nipped in the bud

The racist fanatics like Blind Eagle are mainly responsible for all these tragedies. Their spitting venom while hiding in the comforts of Aussie tax payers money cause more harm to SL. This fanatic racist living in the past and fantasising about a lost paradise and keep on crooning like a bilious pegion. If this Blind eagle has any feeling for this country first you come back here and live among the people and see that there are numerous decent humans are still left in this country. It is also a blessing that such fellows ran away from here.
