End Of Kleptocracy In Sight – Mirihana & The Historic Day

By W. Vishnu Gupta

W. Vishnu Gupta

Kleptocracy; government by those who seek chiefly status and personal gain at the expense of the governed. It becomes most evil when the government becomes an instrument of nepotism in a country such as Sri Lanka. The non-violent protest launched by innocent oppressed and confused citizens mostly consist of mothers, fathers, and the youth on the evening of March 31st, 2022, near the private residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ended up according to the media division of the president, a violent protest of some extremists. Thanks to media covering the incident especially, Hiru and Sirasa the entire world saw what happened in the peaceful protest of majority Sinhalese in this suburb of Colombo. A picture of a mother carrying her baby, sleeping on her shoulder and joining the peaceful rally should bring tears to the eyes of every decent human being, most likely, the mother could not bear the agony of watching her children crying for milk or she was unable to prepare the food for the kids as there was no cooking gas and electricity or worst of all she may come looking for her husband.

Economic Security

Whatever the explanation given by the public security minister and the PMD, the protesters were asking to live in a country with economic security. Judging by the spontaneous uprisings and protest rallies of average citizens taking place in every region of the country, it is obvious the present government has failed to provide economic security in the country, that is afford ability of individuals, households, or communities to cover their essential needs sustainably and with dignity. Food, shelter, clothing, and hygiene qualify as essential needs, as does the related expenditure; the essential means needed to earn a living, and the associated costs. Since 1955, the successive governments paid very little attention to understand and strengthen the key livelihood processes in Sri Lanka. Because they were preoccupied with corrupt management practices and accumulating enormous wealth with the help of disempowered state officials, incredibly lethargic and inept judiciary, and wealthy unscrupulous businessmen. The negligence of these key essential livelihood processes that includes a) Food consumption pattern, which deals with food habits and whether their diet meet nutritional requirements. Hence demanding rice for staple diet, milk powder for children, cooking gas are not slogans of some extremists arrived in Mirihana as claimed by PMD b) Food production, the farmers, fishermen and other food producers are given necessary land, raw material, technology and implements to produce food. c) Income, create or facilitate an environment where people have jobs or any other legitimate means to earn enough money to cover their basic expenses d) Living conditions: The people must be protected against or insured against natural disasters, catastrophic health crises such as pandemic. e) Capacity: The government is paying enough attention on people’s economic security needs, review it periodically as nation’s number one priority.

The government of Rajapaksas were not different from all other previous governments. They neglected the above basic needs of the people and unfortunately none of the political parties have paid attention to the economic security of the people. The budget allocations since 2019 proves that the politicians have no appetite for economic security of the people; on the other-hand billions and billions of rupees were allocated on highway developments, airport development, military equipment, sports development, useless presidential task forces and presidential investigation commissions plus luxury imported items.

Enough is Enough

Apparently, (225 +1) in Sri Lankan politics have perhaps due to their ignorance or disdain towards the average citizens have not realized that nationally, economic security refers to a country’s ability to pursue its own developmental goals for its economy, and it is often explicitly linked to national security. They specifically those who graduated from the Colleges of Political Trickeries founded by SWRDB and JRJ woke up suddenly from deep slumber on March 31st, 2022, when residents in Nugegoda area (Mirihana) throng to the streets demanding the right to live with dignity, the president panicked and declared emergency and curfew in the country. Fortunately, the entire international community witnessed this historic event through the electronic media and left no room for the political spin doctors to twist the facts, many western emissaries expressed that the democratic rights of the people should not be trampled, and the government must be sensitive to the just and fair demands of the citizens.

Three days later, the cabinet of ministers have jointly tendered the resignation from their respective ministerial responsibilities, and it remains to be seen what the next step of the President and Prime Minister will be. The people have said “Enough is Enough” and identified Rajapaksas as the reason for the national economic insecurity. In fact, (225+1) plus all those who assumed political leadership since 1955 were responsible for our economic insecurity and for precipitating JVP and LTTE insurrections in the past. Hopefully all politicians at least now understand that the economic security of a nation is explicitly connected to the national security.

Interim Solution

The proposed interim solution by some dejected group of politicians of the governing alliance is the only option left to Rajapaksas sans the thought of holding on to power with the help of military. A Military government is not feasible in a country where the literacy rate is more than 92% and, where religion plays a key role in every aspect of life of majority of citizens. Besides, the international community does not have any appetite for such a vile move knowing fully well who are the people responsible for misery in Sri Lanka. Hence an interim government lead by acceptable, less corrupt political leadership with genuine desire to establish economic security and promise to enact electoral reforms and hold the general election within a year may be the one and only option available to the President of Sri Lanka.

Kleptocracy, must come to an end very soon and the chauvinist politicians must understand that people will not tolerate their political antics any longer. There is no exception, all in (225+1) have entered the politics and the legislature through most vile jingoistic political practices and directly or indirectly have contributed to making the failed and bankrupt state of Sri Lanka. Finally, let us be reminded of a sutra from sacred Buddhist scripture about the actions of an individual. Vasala Sutra (Outcast Sutra) tells us

‘Na Jachcha Vasalohoti, Najachcha Hoti Bhraahmano,

Kamanna Vasalo hoti, Kammana Hoti Bhamanothi’

– A Person becomes an outcast or a brahmin by DEED and not by BIRTH -.

The extension of this sutra with a slight tweak is appropriate at this crucial period of Sri Lanka. The legislative, political, and executive actions of the present government will this week ultimately decide whether we will continue to be a nation of KLEPTOCRACY (linked to outcasts) or NOT.

But what can be worse GR and MR stay put. The trio VW, Goman, Vasu were asked to rejoin and none said no to Gotha, when he met them personally yesterday. . As usual VW today says “they don,t get to pick it’s we who pick”???

      Chiv,
Hopefully, the masses have learnt a ‘lesson of their time’ and do not do what the 6.9 Million did, earnestly believe in good faith, fooled by the Messiah’s magic words “Dang Sapade”?
All the ‘Kerum Kara’ rituals along with astrologer Sumanadasa, Gnana Akka and Eliyathamby White, now stand exposed in the public gallery as ‘TOM FOOLERY’!!!
      Finished to a reasonable conclusion.
      Is it??

      VG,
“The government of Rajapaksas were not different from all other previous governments. They neglected the above basic needs of the people”
There has NEVER been a government as bad as this one.
It openly caters only to the Sinhala Buddhists
It made utterly stupid decisions, like cutting 25% of its tax income, banning fertiliser in 24 hours and ruining agriculture.
It is headed by an omnipotent despot who thinks he knows everything. He gave lectures on economics to the Central Bank.
He tells engineers to produce renewable energy in 3 years. He bans cattle slaughter without any idea about how cattle farms run.
I blame the very people who are demonstrating now. Most of them voted for this set of jackasses and, I am sure, will expect any new government to give them free milk and honey in 3 months.
To all of them, I say, there is nothing but hard work and high prices ahead.

One good thing that seems to come out of the chaos…..the Rajapaksa family has united the people of all religions, after dividing them.

The Rajapakse family HAS NOT united anyone and never will. I as a Sinhalese will NEVER unite with those who massacred my people. And if you say the Easter bombings were staged, may I ask how come the Rajapakses were capable of convincing some stupid Muslim youth to die? Are Muslim youth that gullible to die for someone else’s sake?

        RSP,
        .
if Tamil srilankens too would see it right, then working for sustainable peace in the island would ever be a dream.
        .
Not just tamils rebells, but srilanken army too massacred their people. There are no whatsoever estimations how many of the civilians got killed in the last phase of the war.
It was not Rajapakshes, but collectivity succeeded in elemination of the terror inthe country. However, CRIMINAL unethical Rajapkshes painted the picture in favour the survival of their mlechcha politics. Now thanks to the youth, it is becoming clear, that Rajapakshes never loved the nation but their family. :

Then tell us as to why they did not let investigations being contnued and find the perpectrators. Victimized parties have no options but to believe that Rajapakshes should be blamed for the disaster. They were greedy at grabbing power and get exonerated from all the crime investigations that were filed against them.
        :
Looking back, I now believe, there was no BOND SCAM, that too was twisted and the experts say, the kind of bond scams were generated by MR and his backlicking man Cabral in 2008.

        RSP,
Money and wealth are the greatest evil of all in this world!
They were alleged have been paid from the ‘FAT’ Defence budget from 2010+ to the time of the deed
that was the incentive and if they did not bide and obey the command, their ‘handlers’ would have sent them anyway to their creator and meet the 7 virgins and each of them boot were promised!!

        Your outrage is very selective.
It is because of supremacist/nationalist attitude like yours that the country is divided and the big mess it is today. You don’t seem to have a problem when “your people” are being made to suffer like they are today, made to stand in long queues, struggle to feed their families, have no gas or fuel, and their children unable to sit for exams. Also don’t forget how “your people” were slaughtered when they protested contaminated drinking water at Rathupaswala, by your masters in power. No national pride then?
        .

Yes! The people demonstrated effectively to cause some jolt in the state’s apparatus. Any demonstration has to some degree less peaceful. Basically these demonstrations can be described as near zero violent and within the action of expression in a democratic framework. It must also be mentioned that those in government were not that foolish to use the full force of the curfew and the emergency in place. End of Kleptocracy??? It is yet to be seen. One fellow said who will now be at the helm? Another set of devious Kleptocrats?? An old fellow lamented that he lived this long to see the sad state to which the country has gone into. The real issue is none in the current lot of politicians can be trusted. A set of bloody humbugs.

    Chiv,

Gota has shown his true colors, VG has said the actions determine the character of the person; by appointing his former Private Lawyer Ali Sabri as the Finance Minister and illiterate Johnston to the Highways shows what is Gota, an outcast not fit to be the leader of the nation. I think he missed the opportunity for rehabilitation.

      RSP,
      That’s all outdated methodology.
STF hopefully is made of professionals, than stupid uneducated men and women!!
If they try it they are going to learn a “lesson of their lifetime”
They are constitutionally duty bound the People and not a bunch of Looters and Robbers, who annointed them as guardians of the sovereign people of SL

So the rats have left the sinking ship. No problem, it’s for the better, they can be replaced by military rank & file, & there are many & more to fill the vacancies. Call it a military regime or junta, SL is another step closer in establishing total despotic governance, supported by bum sucking military yobs.

“……all those who assumed political leadership since 1955 were responsible for our economic insecurity and for precipitating JVP and LTTE insurrections in the past.”

JVP is NOT the unfortunate after-effect of consecutive rotten governments (especially the current megalomanical one).

No, they are the only natural governing body that our country can settle down to, rest easy with, and be productive on, within Lankan perceptions and historical and geographical contexts.

Time and time again they were chased away by consecutive governments, but Lanka has no choice at this time but do its duty towards the Motherland and usher them in. No more comparing ourselves to oil-rich Dubai and entrepenureal-spirited, immigrant-based Singapore (entrepreneurship based on  banking due to relatively rich oil region).

AKD+Sajith (for free global trade within socialistic setting), should at this very hour, overturn the accursed meglomanial government that Lanka is crushed under.

If JVP-NPP had been there from the very beginning, Sri Lanka would have been a far finer place.

The first known dedication of Ranil to save the Old King is blocking Langkang becoming a signatory to the Rome Accord. That is where Old Rowdy King Drew his Bestial energy. On Jan, 9th Morning Ranil was in the Temple Tree House to save the Royals from US Secretary, John Kerry. That time he didn’t even pickup his slippers but ran to the Heli Ranil had arranged for the run to Medamulana. Old Rowdy Ran to their home, closed the Windows and shouted to his acolytes standing outside the windows, “It is the Parai Demulu Diaspora Kottiyas revenged me like this. Then Thero de Silva came to CT and wrote what a Brave Dutugemunu the Old Rowdy King and what a talented Senathipathi, Atula, his Defense Secretary was. (The CT commentators write that he quit the Rapist Army and pumped gas in LA, to hide). Thero de Silva wrote that it was making his hair stand up and feel proud when his grandma described the heroism of Atula. (The Original Legend says that Dutugemunu didn’t engage in full scale war with Elarala to avoid destruction and he erected a memorial stupa honoring Elarla’s bravery. But Mahavamsa says Dutugemunu used supernatural life forms to do savage to Elarla’s country).

Old rowdy, when mothers were crying for milk bottles for their infants, built an extravagant Sinhala Buddhist temple, to beat the record Dutugemunu. That Punnaku eating Modaya didn’t see that this is coming, or he this time will not get ears to hear his story of “This is something Parai Diaspora Kottiya did to an honorable Sinhala Buddhist Hero. So far Royal rowdies are still staying below the Rathupussalawa massacre because this time they really are fearing that India or America may land in using the opportunity. An immature political woman, Jelani claimed in the last election that she was the first Lady of Langkang. This time Valaiththodam already says that he will have more than 2/3 and do it all in his way. The Demulu Pariah Dr. Jaishankar one time called Valaiththodam to talk about the loan Old King was bugging from him. asked for. So now Valaiththodam is already starting to skinning Parai Demulu Dr Jaishankar for loan. He is thinking that he is already the prime minister and President. Real Buffoons these guys are! But before that, if the protesters enter the TTH & Medamulana Mansion at the same time, will Valaiththodam allow Cooli Kanagaratnam to bring his super jet from Uganda and Park in Katunayake? Or will Valaiththodam ask Dr. Jaishankar to shoot it down?

Thank God, We Sri Lankans Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims have come together to chase out the greedy Family of Rajapakshas. They looted the country by foolish methods like building an Airport where no planes land. The only reason is it is loated in his area. The Hambanta Habour =where no ships arive. Both white elephants draining the countries wealth by paying China [Commissoins included]

Let us all be united and find ways and means to find solutions for the betterment of the country.
    1. There are more than 1,000,000 Diaspora Tamils living all over the word. If 100,000 Tamils contrbute one Dollar per month for the development of the country espeialy the north and east without any red tape the country will prosper rapidly. Due to the racist policy and red tape this opportunity was missed and now we see what is happening.
2 The expanding defence budget – after the end of the war there is no need for so much military. We are not going to war with any country.
    3. Keep the Buddhist clergy out of politics. If they preach what Lord Buddha preached and keep out of politics and preach love, peace and coexisance that will unite the country.
    4. The check and balance: and tranperancy, corruption, commison
5 Commission and corrupton must be abolished.
