Mr. Burt must apologize to Sri Lanka for the terrible role UK played for 30 years by allowing the blood thirsty LTTE take root there. Millions of Pounds wereraised and transfered to LTTE. That is a fact. Thousands of Sri Lankans were killed and injured with weapons financed with funds raised in the UK. That is also a fact. Not to mention the LTTE terror propagnada networks still operate on British soil. Mr. Burt will have none of that nonsense, when it comes to Al Qaeda. Classic British hypocrisy.

Sure, just as soon as the Sinhalese apologize for 58/77/81/83 pogroms not to mention the numerous other violations of its own citizens that it carried out LOL.

        Geo

I am calling for an apology from Mr. Burt to all Sri Lankans. Including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others. All suffered a lot under the Jackboot of LTTE terror for 30 years in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Burt has no right to come and preach to us about how we deal with terrorists of the LTTE. We already know how Burt’s UK deal with terrorists. And beleive me Sri Lankans have done better, despite many short comings.

BTW, Geo Sri Lanka’s former President CBK profoundly apologized to all Tamils of Sri Lanka about Black July in 1983. So, let that go now and look to the future.

Supporters of extreme Tamil ethno-nationalism must now think about aplogizing to Sri Lankas as well. For backing LTTE barbarians for 30 years.

            Dear Dodo

You sound like man who knows a lot.

Here is my take on this matter.

If Burt has any respect for Sri Lankans and that means all Sri Lankans. Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others. Not just the noisy LTTE rump in the UK. Burt could start by arresting Adele Balasingham. She still happily resides in the UK. Adele was the God mother of all young females suicide bombers of the blood thirsty LTTE.

Burt’s words will sound rather hollow otherwise in Sri Lanka.

“I am calling for an apology from Mr. Burt to all Sri Lankans. Including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others. All suffered a lot under the Jackboot of LTTE terror for 30 years in Sri Lanka.”

When are you going to call for an apology from Sinhala/Buddhist state to all people of this country including Veddahs, Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others? All suffered a lot under the racist, monolithic, despotic Sinhala/Buddhist state terror for 2,500 years in this island.

          You say:

“Sri Lanka’s former President CBK profoundly apologized to all Tamils of Sri Lanka about Black July in 1983. So, let that go now and look to the future.”

When are the other parties going to apologise for other crimes such as war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the people from 1948 on wards?

Did anyone apologise to my people or for that matter Sinhala speaking people who suffered under the state in 1971 and between 1987 and 1991? Did the state account for the dead of Sinhala speaking youth? When is the state going to stop denying its share of war crimes committed since 1971?

You may chose to ignore my comment.

65yrs of oppression of ethnic minorities by ethnic majority: successive governments have been so oppressive that some Sinhalese think that they can take away the rights of other people and even textbooks have been soaked in such venom.
They are not only against the essence of any religion but also against the international law.
It’s still going on – Sinhalese think they can keep minorities under their boots – inhumanity – living in dark ages of uncivilisation.

Of course there have been a small fraction of conscientious Sinhalese but they have never been in a critical mass:

So British Burt is going to tell the inhabitants what is there for them in 2013 and there after.

The inhabitants know well what was there before 2009 and what they have to date.

Nothing of What ever they have now came from Burt’s mates for sure

British and Canadian Govts are responsible for the untimely demise of our Kadiragamar.

    No need to explain why

Burt’s Boss is hell bent on punishing Srilanka to please his Diaspora vote base.

And his counterpart in Canada is threatening us with Commonwealth Sanctions.

Wonder what more exciting news can Burt deliver to his auduience.

It appears not only VP was trapped, but MR too will be in the near future. Thereafter the post of Presidency is tailor made for the ideal successor, with the 18th Amendment, to cleanse the whole system and establish Law and Order.

    K.A Sumanasekera

You should first grant visa to him and then deport the Sudda at the airport back to his native Sudda Land if you are a honourable person.

This way you could demonstrate to the Suddalanders how powerful a country Sri Lanka is under the guidance of your dear clan leader.

Would you do that for us?

      Native,

      Why would we do that?.

Wouldn’t it be a an insult to the memory of our Kadira, who was the only Tamilian not to engage in communal politics?.

Besides Burt will give your Colombo Elitists a chance to brush up their Pommie accents and have a few free coctails and canopes from Galadari at the HC.

And our SSB may also get a chance to ask Burt to return that 1500 hundred year old Buddha Granite Carving our Sudda planter nicked.

Maybe Alistair Burt is visiting Sri Lanka to get advice about how to deal with the UK’s problems in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Every night for the past few weeks in Northern Ireland groups of people have been hurling bricks and petrol bombs at their own police over how many times each week the Union Jack (flag of the United Kingdom) should be raised at the local town halls. Many Northern Ireland policemen have been hospitalized as a result and the damage to buildings and vehicles is valued in millions of pounds.

He might also be very puzzled as to why, despite all the human rights legislation of the UK and the EU, millions of Scottish people want to be independent from the UK and are demanding a separate state.

Isn’t human life complex and interesting?

This is a ploy to trip up the UK from objecting to the CHOGM.

Oh, Mr Birt, UK parliamentarians can be easily tripped up by Sri Lankan govt ?
      What a pity.

Why can’t the UK Prime Minister say what the Canadian Prime Minister says:

unless human rights situation is improved the UK won’t attend CHOGM ?

The world will improve if every chance of upholding human rights is seized by conscientious leaders.

        Thank you, Rita for:
”The world will improve if every chance of upholding human rights is seized by conscientious leaders”

The world is running out of time – we don’t have a critical mass of conscientious leaders.

Sri Lanka may be strangled by 18A but other national leaders’ firm and upright actions may reduce/prevent 18A from strangling Sri Lankans or even rupture 18A

        Cut the crap out.

        Canada’s current government is Neo-Con.

They love Israel no matter what it does. Canada even voted against Palestinian statehood at the UN rencently. Horrible. That is how conscientious Steven Harper is.

Sri Lanka has many problems to be fixed. I agree. I am no fan of the Rajapass family clan.

But, Canadian politicians are after the LTTE rump’s block vote in Canada. Not to help Sri Lanka. Harper can stay i Ottawa. It is upto him. Really.

Sri Lankans were getting hammered by LTTE attacks funded by millions raised in Canada by Snow Tigers for 30 years. What did Canada do for helpless citizens in Sri Lanka? Nothing. Now that LTTE is destroyed here, they want to take action on this and that. Hypocrites!

Successive governments have been tripping up the UN and the international community:
Sri Lanka: Twenty years of make-believe. Sri Lanka’s Commissions of Inquiry, 11 June 2009, https://www.amnesty.org/en/library/info/ASA37/005/2009/en
Many batches of UK parliamentarians have been invited by the Sri Lankan government and they come back and tell Westminster about the ”ears”, ”tail”, ”legs” they saw like in the fable: Five blind men and the elephant. They are never taken down the road from Omanthai to Jaffna with the scores of Buddha statues or army checkpoints or boutiques. They are not shown the huge war memorials built and opened when A9 was closed down.
Lord Naseby has been invited a few times and he last came back and told the House of Lords what the Sri lankan government told him, contradicting reports by national, regional and international organisations:

Inviting Minister Birt to speak just before CHOGM without implementing LLRC recommendations is related to the intentions in:

    http://www.albergeiger.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/CEO-Lobbying-for-governments.pdf
    Corporate Europe Observatory, May 2010:
”This report presents 15 recent examples of governments using lobby consultancies to influence the EU institutions. The list ranges from Belarus to Botswana, Ethiopia, Jersey, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka, to mention a few. …. Some of the consultancies are lobbying on behalf of governments which are directly or indirectly responsible for serious human rights violations. For instance Bell Pottinger has since 2005 lobbied the EU institutions on behalf of Sri Lanka, whose government is accused of systematic human rights violations.”
