Due to the death of former Supreme Court judge Sarath de Abrew, the Colombo High Court has terminated the alleged sexual assault case against the late judge.
Abrew who became the first Supreme Court Judge to be indicted on criminal charges died in August this year following injuries he sustained after falling from the upper floor of a building. He was rushed to the Kalubowila Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A domestic aide of Abrew in June last year accused him of sexually abusing her. Later, the Attorney
General indicted Abrew under Clause-365 of the Penal Code on two counts of sexual abuse and assault.
In another incident, in 2012, a police constable attached to the Mount Lavinia police said that Abrew had assaulted him while he was on duty at the judge’s residence.
