Former UNP deputy leader and Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa does not have a proper degree, Colombo Telegraph can now reveal.
Premadasa’s Wikipedia page says he obtained a Bsc. Degree in Economics, International Relations and Political Science from the London School of Economics.
Colombo Telegraph investigations have revealed that although Premadasa was awarded a degree from LSE he did not complete his degree programme work.
Speaking to Colombo Telegraph Sajith Premadasa acknowledged that he had only sat for his first year exams at LSE because he had been sick with measles and then a paralysis of his legs which prevented him from sitting for further exams.
Premadasa gained admission to a post graduate programme in Maryland on the basis of his LSE degree but never completed his studies due to his father’s death, he told Colombo Telegraph.
Asked if he had undertaken grief counselling when his father died in order to continue with his studies Premadasa said he had not.
His Facebook page says; A graduate of the London School of Economics (LSE) and Political Science of the University of London, his degree covered the areas of economics, politics and international relations, an education that served him in good stead later when he launched himself into grassroots politics.
“Our records show that Sajith Premadasa graduated from LSE with an undergraduate degree in international relations in 1989. We do not allow students to graduate who have not completed their course of study. I would be grateful, therefore, if you could let me know why you believe Mr Premadasa did not complete his studies at LSE?” London School of Economics and Political Science asked Colombo Telegraph.
When Colombo Telegraph revealed some of our findings the LSE replied; “Further to your call and this email, this is just to confirm we are carrying out further investigations into our records to establish the exact status of Mr Premadasa. This will require consultation with the University of London, the awarding body at the time, who hold the original records. This may take some time.”

It’s not a must to have a University degree to rule this Island nation. Presidency means an Administration part to perform. You can have advices for areas that you are not that sharp in.
The best example for this is the on going President Honorable Mahinda Rajapakse and we’ve heard some bad rumors about the law exam he has passed.
This is all crap. May be Ranil Wickramasinghe is a smart administrator but we all know that he failed to achieve certain goals.

Chamila, you are right – all you need to run a country is, strictly, a degree of common sense and eyes to watch your back. Sirima shared this with Regan, Bush, John Major et al. Sirima also showed us that she had balls when she took on the JVP in 1971 and won a resounding victory. Have your noticed, the common man has a lot of mistrust in people who are too ‘panditha’ as we say in Angunukolapellessa. As for Ranil, he runs the danger of being remembered as the permanent leader of the opposition. What to do, we are offering Bodhi Pooja every week for the gods to send us some one to build a lasting peace in our beautiful island.

You say ‘Sirima had balls’, you may be right as she certainly had a man’s voice and so does Chandrika.

LSE has a reputation for awarding doggy degrees to politically connected third world off spring! Saif Gaddhafi, who today is facing a war crimes trial was also awarded a questionable post-grad degree from LSE after being found to have plagurized because LSE of course got big bucks from the Gaddhafi family – the Libyan people’s wealth. LSE ironically is where the respected British Marxist and Jewish intellectual Ralf Miliban, father of Ed Miliband taught.
What is clear is that Sajith Premadasa is not bright and perhaps mentally and intellectually impaired and certainly not capable of leading a party or country. He has never said anything substantive, does not have positions or policies and is a hanger on trading on his father’s name.
The tragedy of the UNP is that shameless Ranil Wickramasinghe has got rid of all the bright younger people in the party and now only Sajith remains. But let us not forget Madam Rosy Senanayake who is far more intelligent, bright and charismatic and has been Sri lanka Ambassador in Malaysia. Rosy Senanayake should lead the UNP. Time for a woman to lead the UNP!

Thank you Chamila. I came across RW in 1975 @ Kollupitiya Sirikotha premises. At that time UNP had a youth movement called “Eksath Samavadee Shishya Sangamaya” which I was a member. Imtiyaz Bakeer Markar invited us for a meeting with young RW. At the meeting RW jabbered for about half an hour. At the end of it I asked Imti what the hell RW was jabbering, he said RW is Esmond Wickramasighe’s son & future leader of UNP! I was not impressed with RW, as he was not a orator of any standard. He may be a honest straight administrator the country is looking for as a leader to get us out of this mess but he has no charisma or natural leadership qualities to do the job required of him. He may go down in history as leader country needed & never got the opportunity. Anyway that is my conclusion. Coming to Sajith Premadasa I have another story. My nephew was interviewed for admission to Mill Hill school in 1990. The first question asked by the head master of Mill Hill from my nephew was do you know the president of Sri Lanka & he answered in the affirmative. Then he was told do you that your presidents son is a distinguished old boy of Mill Hill School & my nephew said yes. Head master said you are Sri Lankan & SP is same & was admitted to Mill Hill School & subsequently became a well known physician in Australia. I think Sajith Premadasa bashing has become a favourite pass time for RW fanatics. If you got the time watch a few video interviews of Sajith Premadasa & RW, you will see the leadership qualities.

E quite agree with you, as my perceptions on Sajith was that he had aflair, his standard of english language skills are excellent, equally good as his Sinhalese. He has leadership qualities which has been little known, he has the personality to go with it. He is young, fearless and never to be bought over. Willing to do good for the party and country to prevail the good name of his father. People don’t know much of him, bit will come to realize it, if he us given only half a chance. Very unlike the present fingure swaggering RW.

Who said one must have a University Degree to rule the country ? aren’t “ honesty & integrity “matter more than any thing else , how many times Sajith has uttered this false hood of him being a graduate (Degree holder ) of LSE , people who know enough about this Sajith guy , know the true picture . Guys Sajith is the number two of MR , full of deceptions i.e preach some thing in the day time and do the exact opposite in the night time . please do a case study on both, then you will find the similarities !!

You just need to be somebody’s son, daughter, nephew or niece. Even an unhappy, estranged wife will do.
Sajith believes Sri Lanka’s Presidency is his inheritance. He is not the only one. List is so very long.

Why is it important for CT at this juncture !!? Can’t the CT do some investigative journalism on ”How a handful of Ranil’s UNPers destroy the party day by day and dying to put an end to this young man”!!? The last of the game in the line was to push him into the Southern provincial council election, where those traditional thugs wants this young man to face defeat for their dead leader !!?
Apart from it, Among the present and past educated cruels who filled that Executive chair,Only this man’s father – in spite of all his critical records – didn’t forget the grievances of the majority poor man of this land.
Look at SWRD,JRJ, Lalith and so many degree holders of Cambridge, Oxford and Howard etc., etc., What is it that they have left for us !!? The things they have left are being enjoyed in abundant by criminals and thugs !!?
I do not claim that he is ”the ” Leader to rescue us !! Education is important but do we rally need a degree holder to lead us!!? Late Mr.Kaamaraj- Chief minister of Tamil naadu, couldn’t even get through his 3rd standard due to poverty. He was a king maker in Indian National politics and the service he rendered to education in Tamil naadu was immense. When he passed away, his personal Account had a lum sum of only Rs.9 !! and a Goat by the side of his ancestral cottage. We need honesty in public life – not degrees from Universities.
Any one could make little or big mistakes but to be a leader one should have the courage to accept it !! Didn’t this man accept the truth when questioned by CT !!? That’s what we expect from our leaders and leaders to come !! Honesty…honesty !! CT do you think MR.RW is an honest man to finally to make use of you !!?

The degrees people like MR and RW got, original or fake has

Even he had him behind bars after the 1982 presidential election for his support to Kobbekaduwa !!? knife to manipulate late Wijekumaratunge’s election victory !!? Then he Sent his beloved Ministers along with those Graduates to turn 7000 thousand priceless manuscripts into ash along with it’s glorious Library of Asia in Jaffna.
He invented The LTTE and gave rebirth to JVP – thinking that’s the way to get rid of R.Premadasa !!? The country knew the rest but you and RW. For , you both pretend as if you are sleeping for the last one decade or more !!?….and yes man, It’s really a paramount task to distribute our leaders without a degree !!?
You seem highly worried that Premadasa jr., do not plunge into matters like late Lalith and Gamini to end up in hell !!?
”But to create,and in this
age,you need to know a lot and see a lot”
why why….you seem to be the chief adviser to RW !!? Repeat this slogan until he cremate the party. Also you can boast that people are willing to keep RW forever !!?
”You come into personal contacts with like minded sons of other
developed and developing countries at prestigious

Where do you live !!? In the North Pole !!? First you try to show me a shameless Opposition leader in the world to continue on his seat to produce more and more defeat !!? …and then you start question about other people’s dignity and honesty.
I can go further line by line….but no point ! I am an optimist in the case of Premadasa jr., as he maintain a pretty good record in comparison to other sons of VVIPs. I feel that he misses his father to make little boy’s mistakes. He needs some right people by his side.

One day the catalogue of Christies Auction centre in London carried the details of the painting which was put for auction. I think Sri Lanka High commission intervened and the painting was withdrawn from the auction. When inquiries were held by Sri Lanka CID and Scotland Yard, it was revealed that the painting was sold to a British person by late Mr. Premdasa’s son-in-law. I think there was a case against him. Nothing to do with the economy. Leaders of most nations book a seat at Eaton, Oxford, Cambridge etc before the child is born.- standard practice.
He has not done his sessional work (home work) which is almost 50% marks therefore they have issued him an interim certificate. This happens to many students for various reasons- family pressures, cash etc.
But his pop was very smart and respected in the west for being a workaholic- first man to meet the Queen at the Royal Derby. The bloke knew more than engineers and walked to a building site on the way home at 2am. His workers became asthma patients ha ha.

Javi – Eaton is a secondary/high school while Oxford and Cambridge are universities. “Leaders of most nations book a seat before the child is born standard practice” is an inaccurate statement. Most nations – at any rate – are not English-speaking.
It is those with some connection to the earlier British Empire who pride in sending their children to these much respected institutions. Children of old boys and those of world leaders are
often given some extra consideration, which is not unusual.
“His pop was very smart and respected in the west” is your personal opinion and not necessarily shared by most. But let me give you this much credit – RP did not mess things for us in the eyes of the world like our present jokers are doing.

I am aware of Eaton at Bushy where George Harrison estate is and that it is a gateway to O&C plus that Gonwansa’s kids study there. Because it now cost more for a local to study at Oxford than Harvard all this information came out a couple of years ago in an article in TIME magazine (I have thrown the magazine away but remember the story well). It is not just the commonwealth members looking for a place at Oxford/Cambridge Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese etc. (rich nations) both US/UK foreign offices advertise these universities very much as the inflow runs into Billions and help them maintain these old institutes. I met a very young couple at Shanghai airport heading for London and he said he had just passed out from Cambridge and has received a management position at an investment bank Old Street (100k job) and his very pretty wife said she too was at Cambridge doing her finals- they belong to the party. Sirima got her honours degree from the UOL (University of Life).
Truth is that the basic need to govern a country is a a degree of common sense. Otherwise, how do you think Bush and Regan managed. The big question is: Why, after 65 years of independence, do we still have to send our children in droves to study in foreign universities? Why have we not built the academic institutions that we can proudly depend on to prepare our young for the future?
By the way: whatever happened to that nice, football mad Mr Saif Gaddafi?

“The big question is: Why, after 65 years of independence, do we still have to send our children in droves to study in foreign universities?”
Well one could say it’s the old ties of the commonwealth. On the other hand when we see thousands of Japanese studying at London for weird qualifications I am alarmed. But now it’s the Chinese we see on every turn who have made their way to London and US.300 million folk in China belong to the party and they are rich.
It is human nature join the club like the spice girls who could not sing but had technical aids like in the movies.

This is a bit harsh coming from from the CT. Isn’t it?.
Did D. S Senanayaka have a Degree?
What has the Double Degree ( or is it single? ) of the current Leader done to his great grand dad’s old party of the Establishment. let alone the Nation?.
/
Javi / October 3, 2013
“This is a bit harsh coming from from the CT. Isn’t it?.” CT stands for the truth!
We don’t expect politicians to get caught lying and it’s the media (3rd house) that usually blows the whistle. Can’t you see your boss Gota gunning the media folk.
Without lying you can console yourself that Winston Churchill the great orator had studied only up to the 8th standard failing many times and in the bargain he was excellent at grammar.

Education alone is not enough to be a leader but a degree earned with hard work also brings with it honesty, civilised behaviour, respect for others, humility etc., etc. regardless of what background they came from.
Many of the so called educated politicians in both the major parties have never earned their degrees but obtained them by hook or by crook and that shows in the way they conduct themselves in public. Rajapaksa is a very good example.

The new generation of technical men like the richest man in the world who “changed the way we think” Bill Gates and even Mark Zuckerberg have no qualifications because they pulled out just as in “Fountainhead”.
So whats the problem here because he has not lied as yet saying I am fully qualified.

Is this the most important subject facing the country today? Haven’t we had leaders who didn’t have a degree leading the country before? More importantly are those with degrees doing any better at leadership?
/

Whether they have degree or doctorate it does not matter they all are corrupt selfish murderous.
That what every recent politicians in Sri Lanka are capable of, they do not have any fear or guilt to rob the state, they all help them self with what is belong to poor people of this country.
When there is no law or order this is what will happen to any country. Unfortunately fools who live in this country still support them.

If LSC had issued degree certificate for students not passed, then how would we know who genuinely has passed among its certificate holders? Had I known it, I would never have spend my money and worked hard to get my certificates from two British Universities. I have realized what is important is the ability to deliver and not a display of qualification. DS Senanayake and R Premadasa and Kamraj in India are the best examples. So, I too have dropped qualifications display for a longtime.

Ranil has JVP Punch Criminal record and revenge taking degree also

“Colombo Telegraph investigations have revealed that although Premadasa was awarded a degree from LSE he did not complete his degree programme work.”
If he was awarded a degree that is what he is stating to the public. He is not telling lies.he does not need to mention in brackets that he did not complete his degree programme work.LSE is the culprit not sajith for not maintaining high standards and discrimination the students.I’am sure there must be many cases like this in LSE awarded to people with money. The right price can get you a degree it seems.
“only sat for his first year exams at LSE because he had been sick with measles and then a paralysis of his legs which prevented him from sitting for further exams.”
Now he has been sick for a long time with a terrible disease called acute malignant fibrous ranilcytoma which has paralysed him and prevented his contesting the presidential elections.
Probably there is a psychological factor involved in these episodes of getting diseases just before having to clear a hurdle. He is disease prone when his system realises that the bar has been st too high and his mind is telling him to back off while pressuure is being brought on him to go forward thus resulting in his immune system caving in.
““Our records show that Sajith Premadasa graduated from LSE with an undergraduate degree in international relations in 1989.”
So whats the fuss.We have from the horses mouth itself that they have awarded the degree. It could be that when they saw his face brilliance shone so much that they felt it would be waste of time for such a person to go through the whole course.Or they could have come to that conclusion form some of his preliminary work that here is a guy who is a cut above the rest.Does one expect that if for example einstein was enrolled in LSE they will make him do the whole course.
Now probably an investigation of CBK’s sorbonne degree should be done otherwise due to sajit she may be also tainted with the same brush.Who knows she may have gone to the exam hall one hour late and passed.
“carrying out further investigations into our records to establish the exact status of Mr Premadasa. This will require consultation with the University of London, the awarding body at the time, who hold the original records. This may take some time.””
about 20 years in fact.CT will be contacted in 2033.

the right price can get u a degree… YES and much more easy is getting an online degree… BY now most degree holders in SL might be holding online degrees sold by ONLINE UNIVERSITIES….
THE DEGREE’S OF THOSE HOLDING HIGH PUBLIC OFFICE NEED TO BE CHECKED FOR AUTHENTICATION…. IF found to be fake.. send em to jail….

EW Golding / October 3, 2013
I fully agree with those who say “If Mr Premadasa has no degree, so what!” That’s fine with me and he may or may not make a good leader irrespective of that.
But if Mr Premadasa has lied that he has a degree, when he does not have one, then that is a serious misdemeanour for anyone wishing to be a leader.
Secondly, I am at a loss when the LSE says:(a) He did not complete his studies; (b) he has a degree. Something fishy on the LSE-London University side.
/
shankar / October 3, 2013
nothing fishy. They have given him a degree without him following the course. So he is not lying when he says he got a degree. When he wrote his first essay they were stunned literally. They did not want any further essays from him and decided to give him the degree then and there.

Edison had hundreds of invention to his credit, the greatest inventor in the history. If he didn’t perfect the light bulb, we might be still in the dark but to do this, he had to try ten thousand times. When some one asked him how he was doing all these without any education – he said, he was like a steam engine, while it moves when the steam is less they put more water like wise he too when the need arises for him to do his work, he acquired the relevant knowledge and skills while doing his work.
We could list many great persons who very well excelled in every sphere of human endure and contributed immensely for the well being of the world without any formal education.
Mr.Sajth Premadasa is a good young leader who has the will and ability to take forward the country. Instead of destroying him, give him the good break to do his work and get the good out of him for the good benefit of the people.
This got to stop, Ranil and those who are around him doing all these bad things are destroying UNP for good. All these actions are one nail at time on the coffin of that great party which did great service to the country and gave great leaders as well.

So it has finally begun! I’m sorry CT but you should stop being the bucket carrier for RW…if any of you have ever lived in Hambantota like I did you would realise how much work SP has done in that province and the genuine respect he garners there.
G.W. Bush, Ted Cruz (R) Texas were educated at Harvard if I am not mistaken and see what kind of morons they are.I can name more if you like.
RW is now agreeing to ‘reforms’ to save his skin…he is a despicable man in cahoots with MR.
I think common sense is what a leader should possess (sadly lacking in RW and his cronies) and not just a piece of paper. Get real or you will go down the same path as the Sunday Leader which ended up being a rag sheet good for lining the bottom of a bird cage.
