Cousin of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Jaliya Wickramasuriya has been arrested by Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) last night for allegedly accepting a USD 245,000 commission while serving as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US.

According to police sources he will be produced before court today.
Wickramasuriya is a first cousin of Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Chamal Rajapaksa.

Commission is not $245,000, it was $350,000. I have seen a news item where he had justified it as a commission. Original CT article says Rs. 45 M then. Even at Rs. 150 a dollar now, amount comes to USD 300,000.
True, a commission is paid by the seller but it is not paid to the buyer, (in this case buyer is Jaliya on behalf of GOSL). Commission goes to the real estate agent. This guy Jaliya is such a fool that he cannot even lie correctly:-)

UNP’s who were in opposition are also responsible for the waive of corruption during Rajapakse regime. The day Basil was appointed to Parliament on National List all UNP MPs including Ranil Wickremasinghe, waived placards in Parliament which said :”Mister Ten Percent”. After that incident what effective follow up action Ranil took to track and disclose corruption on the part of Basil or others ?
Now the biggest threat is whether Ranil and Mahinda will go for a trade-off with corruption cases on each side.
The Civil Society should face this challenge and ensure that wrong doers of both sides are punished.

Plato: Thank you. Yes I missed that point. Our Lawyers are capable of creating any type of story and circumvent the law and they are assisted by the Judges. That is what we saw in the case of granting bail to another rogue viz Tiran Alles. In that case even the AG was not given sufficient time to register a protest. Even there is a move to get the appeal of Dumunda Silva “EXPEDITED” leaving aside the other appeals already in the waiting list. Now the Judges are even visiting him outside normal visiting hours, using “official” status. So what is happening to the so called SACRED Judicial Service? Where are the “BAR” the Judicial Services Commission and the Minister of Justice? All these deterioration and breakdown point to an impending DISASTER.
