Court documents obtained by the Colombo Telegraph show that Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary and vociferous hardline monk, Galabodaaththe Gnanasara pleaded guilty to hit-and-run charges filed against him by Grandpass police in 2000.
On September 20, 2000, the monk was fined Rs. 12,000 by Traffic Courts, Colombo 12. The accident occurred on April 14, the same year, causing injuries to two others named Mohamed Rifai and Ravindra Kumar. Gnanasara Thera was driving lorry number 6 Shri 5444. Among the charges against him were drunk driving, speeding, driving without a valid licence and failing to report the accident.
The monk pleaded guilty to all 9 charges.

a) Was he as a monk – in 2000 had been driving himself that lorry ?
As far as my info (3 decades ago in SL), no buddhist monks drive the vehicles themselves
b) By listening to the video – the filthy sinhala that the particular monk was using was not second to those of Mervin. So is that common to other monks too in the country today ?
c) May well be – that Gotabaya is not aware of the criminal energies of the partiuclar monk – because as we are all aware he was then out of the country. And who would ever support the views of this kind of monks – be it BBS or any other movement… ?

Yes he has been a Buddhist priest in 2000.The charge sheet gives his name as Galabada Atte Gnanasara. He has driven the lorry without a driving licence after taking liquor and injured two persons.Police has charged him with nine counts and he has pleaded guilty to all the charges and he has been fined for all the charges. The Buddhists priests here in Sri Lanka have so far not been issued with driving licences.

Salut to CT for publishing these valuable evidence of the notorious monk. This was what I read among the few comments added by some commentators. This particular monk should have a criminal past to be able to delegate the violence in the name of BBS.
I watched several videos and TV discussions the particular monk was invited in – and felt myself how could he stay further be saffron robbed with high potential of aggressiveness regardless of the matter being just addressed. No doubt these kind of monks should better be sent to rehabs rather then to laity rather than leaving them lead any form of violent organisations.

To learn the law enforcement – how the laws should be in action – rulers should take part in workshops in Germany, France, Switzerland and UK. Else they cant have any idea about the amendments to the prevailing laws in SL. So long nothing would change with the laws – darker era will get extended under the MR rule.

The language he used were very filthy, dirty, foul and disrespectful to any decent person even though he was talking to uniformed law enforcement officers. Also it shows the plight, frustration and and low morel of them as they were humiliated in doing their duty for the people and the country.I wonder why any good Buddhist would follow this person as he is a shame for the them. Simply wearing the robe wouldn’t make them good monk but they should preach and practice the good teaching of the Lord Buddha them and for all their subjects.

No clue if GOTA is said to be healthy person but supporting this cheevara dariya – safron robed pseudo monk to polarize the BBS. Criminals like BBS leaders can then always brainwash the poor masses – They would ask if country^s so called war hero GOTA support why not them. ..
This is the crime friendly environment that MR regime promotes in the country today. If MR has a brain the size of a mustard seed, he should have advised the minister of justice to work on BBS and ban it.

All this pressure trying to save Buddhism in Sri Lanka driven this good holy man to drink and then to drive. Next he will be driven to Gambling if he is not careful hence the reason he oppose Drinking & Gambling to save him self from hedonistic pleasures in life. What a courage’s crusader.

We do not want extremists, either Sinhalese,Buddhists, Muslims,Tamils or Christians. We should live in harmony.
When ever we were divided, the others take our independence as in the past.
Similarly, we do now want interference in our affairs.
We were existing for thousands of years and we want to be in the picture for few more thousand years as Sri Lankans.
