GMOA On Strike Demanding Posh Schools For Their Children, Says Minister Deflated Their Tyres

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today launched a token strike across several hospitals in the country in an attempt to pressure the government into granting school admission for their children.

Padeniya - GMOA boss

Padeniya – GMOA boss

The token strike launched by the GMOA has affected the hospitals in Kurunegala, Kandy and Matara. The move comes after the GMOA claimed that Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had refused to meet them to discuss the anomaly issue over school admission for their children.

Yesterday evening over 200 members from the GMOA had gone to the education ministry and had waited for several hours to meet the minister, who had not showed up for the meeting.

GMOA says that doctors must show permanent residency for at least five years if their children are to receive admission to national schools. However, the GMOA said that this was not possible in some cases as doctors are transferred or some go for overseas training. But in a statement, the education ministry said that the doctors were demanding admission of their children to the best schools in the country and were trying to mislead the public by twisting facts.

According to the statement, the GMOA has demanded the education ministry to provide admission of their children to 12 popular schools in the country including Royal College, Ananda College, Visaka Vidyalaya, Dharmaraja College, Kingswood College, Mahamaya Vidyalaya, Kandy High School and Maliyadewa College.

Meanwhile, posting pictures on their Facebook page today, the GMOA alleged that while they had parked their vehicles at the education ministry to meet the minister yesterday, the tyres of several cars belonging to the doctors had been deflated. “If this was the way minister treat professionals of the country just imagine how he will treat layman of this country. This is how Education Minister treats doctors. Air has been removed from doctors’ vehicles which were parked in “Isurupaya” Yesterday,” they said in a post with pictures of several cars showing flat tyres,” they said.

The GMOA has said that unless a reasonable solution is offered for the schooling issue, they will be compelled to take drastic action. the GMOA and the government are at loggerheads over ETCA with the GMOA demanding that the proposed agreement be scrapped.

What next? Posh women for them to get married!? We need to stop financing the education of these useless “campus” dudes and grant qualifying students student loans instead while they are given part time jobs to pay for their living during education.

We have gone too far and even allow these “campus” students to hurt police officers, destroy public property and cause immense loss to the nation through blocked roads and traffic jams as a result of their protests every time their private parts fail to rise!

They like all of us should have the right to protest by holding a placard in some place without disturbing the peace and causing public inconvenience.

These fucking jealously idiots dont allow PVT medical colleges, no recognition for nurses, no respect for non-academic… SRILANKEN medicos are suffering from a complex as no other. In Europe, medical profession is held high but their job is made very much responisble. Sure, they earn a lot but in GERMANY for example, u dont have facilities as a doctor- nurses would not hold you as a god which is the case in UK and English speaking world. German doctors work really hard harder than ones in UK – they have no such pvt systems to allow millions but the system has been the best in Europe in a grand nation, even if they suffer, but patients are held like royals.

German Doctors are not paid well. At the begining they even earn less than a normal nurse.

That MAY be right but at the beginning even every med graduate has to learn much from nurses alone.:- WITH the time GERMAN doctors earn to be satisfied.. they dont go after money money,, but the service…. unlike in UK, Doctors are not held gods in Germany, but Germans lead in the health/patient care areas in EUROPE….. as UK people would never achieve it in this life… – Germany s krankenversicherung system has been the one of the best in Europe. UK people dream of … no single patient would go dying not having being entitled to necessary OP. The system is connected with an insurance – which any registered person in germany should be served equally.

if they are not paid well why don’t northern Europeans join the NHS?

most consultants in the UK work at at least 2 hospitals carrying out operations. Recently passed english graduate doctors do not get the opportunity to train as GP at a practice because of resources so they leave for USA where medicine is not free.

The buruvas of missionary school takeover are coming home to roost.

Not really, they cant be Buruwas any means if they have got through the exams.

It is just the mentality of some lankens. Some asked me why they need to pay that much of taxes to the govt ? Being shocked by deductions on the pay slips ….

Average lankens are not used to have contributed by taxes as it is the case for average europeans.

They the average lankens cant just adjust themselves to a system easily. THIS WE NOW SEE IN WHEN DISCUSSING ALSO ABOUT THE DEVOLUTION OF POWER INTHE COUNTRY: please listen to those men with degree hardly get it easily that we should be all be treated with the same spoon regardless of our race, colour religion or any other factors.

      Sir,

What about qualified accountants? In a nation riddled with corruption and financial crime in high places. Their profession is critical for transparency.

They need elite schools for their kids too.

Why only these bloody medics all the time? Who have sought this proffession not to heal the sick, but only to secure themselves a damn good dowry.

      Cheers!

What’s next? Their Children to be found the best marriage partners?

No, No and No. Their children shoulkd be subjected to the same laws and rules as the other children. Of course they should take the tests and if they qualify and are bright, should be admitted like the other children.

The tax payer funded doctors have been spoilt for decades.

Take the doctors for an example :
1They get 13 years free education
2Free medical education for another 5 years.
      3Mahapola scholarship during campus education
4 Govt job when passing out as a doctor
5Free housing when posted outside Colombo
6Free specialized training overseas to become a specialist
7Opportunity to enter kids to popular schools in Colombo
8Right to do private practice whilst being a govt employee
      9Non contributory pension
      10Duty free car permit

The doctors should be told to decide whether they want to be in govt employ, end of in private practice. You cannot enjoy both worlds. All issues will be sorted when this is done.

GMOA is being un professional and unethical – following example of politicians!

Is it unfair when politicians and top bureaucrats who are political appointees too are eating the pie alone ?

It is only a limited no of schools are dedicated for politicians. a few schools in Jaffna are only for Tamils.

Every one else should send their children to what ever schools availavle.

there is a limit to everything.

      Yahapalanaya is doing nothing special.

Yahapalanaya is good because Mahinda Rajapakse was a alibaba.

YEhapalanaya is living previous govt. Otherwise, if we check what yahapalanaya is doing Even Maithripala sirisena looks like another thief.

Only politicians are allowed the everybest in the country. theat is why there is hugh demand and comptetition form children former and existing politics to come to politics.

the same world that politicians are enjoying is not opened to others.

So, think, don’t write like idiots.

      Mudson silva:

If you are a Yahapalan journalist, you should make it clear to the govt, that govt should not exect alligence from trade unions becuse it is their govt or becuse they should support the govt. That is wrong ideology.

whqat these people are asking is good schools to their children.

Do you know how many people are migrating outside the country because education is not what they want.

Why so many parents spend everything they earned to educate their children oversea.

Why almost all the politicians send their children for overseas education. Why certain colombo schools are famous for buddhisng politicians.

      govt should change that.

govt should make it level playing field.

If you are a journalsit you are just a parasite and a blood sucker and criticizes just for your benefit.

But they are all bloody sinhala radicals. Some dont even repsect anyone but their standards. What standards not even good enough to handle local medical issues properly ?I have no respect to average lanken docs. At least they should finally get it their services to the nation is indispensible as any other countries. It is even more since they are prodced by free education of this country.

We have to admit that sometimes Doctors are also become patients like other professionals such as Engineers, Accountants and Lawyers. Some Doctors are suffering from Incurable deceases. Dr. Padadadeniya and his secretory of this Mafia gang is suffering from such a decease. Dr. MARA was capable and very famous for treating for such deceases. Gamunu Wijeratna, Wijedasa Rajapaksha, Mahinda Balasuriya and many others knows wonderfulness of MARA’s medicine.

SIRA and RANIL should ask MARA about the Medicine he used for such Patients during his time. Well done Akila, don’t allow these cowards dictate terms.

Lapatiya, MaRa had done no kind of medicine, but perks being given to them, putting them on altar.. that is what the current duo would never do…. as other graduates, Medical professionals are also professionals that should leave their services to the nation. If they have been prodcued by Free education, they are obliged to deliver… just to work for the agendas of sabotage makers… should NOT be valid for Medical Noble Profession. These men in the office of GMOA should be changed, there are radical thought bearers in the direct board, none of them seem to be kind enough to work for the lanken pateints. but arguments. Why the men stayed like Kirimati gilapu kimbulas at the time, Satem was established few years ago in the days of Meeharaka Led government.

        Sama,

MARA has different kind of medicine for different kind of deceases. You are talking about one method he used and that is true. Remember Gamunu Wijeratne announced Island wide strike for private buses. He was summoned for a discussion by MARA and immediately after the meeting Gamunu Wijeratna made a public announcement saying that strike postpone indefinitely. If you noticed the Gamunu Wijeratna’s face after the meeting then you should have realized what kind of medicine MARA used and that is second set of Medicine.

There is a third kind of medicine and MARA used that medicine for FM Sarath Fonseka and Dr. Shirani B

We perfectly know MARA s tricks being played on HEALTH or other areas have created all kind of problems to the next set that would takeover. Be them through Bond scam or other, the current situation is alarming that the country has to face it -like or not -people are forced to contribute thorugh paying high taxes at least for a forseeable period.
All these MaRa S TRICKS such donation of LAPTOPS to any journalist appeasing them – looking back were almost like bribes. How can a man of that nature could behave well while promoting the kind of tricks to grab mind sets of anyone. Not only jOURNOS but how many of the artistes incl that doby boy Jackson ANthony were forced to do some services to UPFA ….. all fishes were caught by low levels tricks being applied by Rajapskhe men…. today the period we the innocient people have to digest all fo them WHILE the man of the match very same POLITICIAN has further been targetting to return to power by hook or crook.

Schools for children; what’s its relevance for your job/profession?

the minister is not a responsible type it seems.Should be removed from this important ministry.

as for the doctors if they get hammered by the people, they can treat themselves and the police should do nothing about it because if the doctors don’t do essential services then police also need not do theirs.

Can you guys imagine, Most of these men are products of lanken Universities. Meaning they became docs through Free education: But them to turn to go for strikes not caring much about the falling and appalling levels of patients and their situations should be seen as heartless.

Actually what I get it from UK, most couterparts in such countries, they behave being unbiased to any politicians knowing the guidelines of public servants. Regardless of the ruling politicians these men have to behave being neutral. Sadly, teh situation that the poor nation faces not having enough medical speicalists, lanken current day specialists go on demanding their performances. THat is no means right. In Germany and other countries in EU, there are more than enough surgeons. THere are Privat DOzents (ASSOCIATE Profs) that seek jobs longer than in any other countries. Lanken situation is, not having been able to produce enough doctors…. the few men seen as medical specialists are in high demand. SO them automatically become not second to Mahinda Rajakashe after his term claimed war victory. Being power intoxicated, he has lost his healthy consicence. So are the doctors too, who are few in the country.
Best thing is to produce more doctors building new faculties. If a student ffulfils minimum qualifications for a medical student, he or she shoudl be given the chance to become what he or she is ambitious to do.. .meaning going thorugh all the exams succesfuly to beocme a doctor. Then all these monopoly will find its end.

Also it is high time, GMOA men to be replaced with neutral personalities. So long they hold to biased politicians, they may work for them- is a bad reputation for lanken MEDICAL PROFESSION.

The GMOA has been holding the gun for several years & black mailing successive Govt. These doctors are nothing but a selfish bunch of blood suckers. Of course there are exceptions but they are dragged in to this corrupt practices as long as they are in the GMOA. They enjoyed free education paid for by the tax payer, then duty concessionary cars & tax free salaries but still want more.

In UK, for example, Doctors are not treated any better than other professionals but recently, junior doctors went on strike over pay & conditions ‘imposed’ on them by the Minister of Health, Jeremy Hunt. After a couple of 1 day strikes by only junior doctors, there have been negotiations by the Govt & the British Medical Association (BMJ) & a compromise was reached which senior doctors & some junior doctors considered reasonable but some were not satisfied & wanted more strike action. However, the BMJ made sure that hospitals were well prepared during the strike & warned that doctors will be held responsible in the event of adverse patient care as a direct result of the strike. Accordingly, the last proposed strike by the juniors was cancelled at the last minute due to inadequate notice to hospitals but junior doctors are now losing support & the Govt. stood firm. Maybe the Minister of Health in SL should learn something from his counterpart in UK.

Then who would fulfil the stake, would you be ready to import the medical professionals from the UK you sucker ?

You just utter nonnsence here. Not knowing the gravity of the problem. Lanken medicos are parasites: They dont care about the offers them being given after they become the MBBS holders. That is it. Idimenawa….. Not even PGs have been completed but just a MBBS title can make them intoxicated for the title. Mostyl with poor performance. Say a doctor in the UK has to do lot more work thana doctor in SL. In srilanka they have their servant s around. Most nurses and attendents are thre to do the job comfortably. That is not the case in Europe.

Doctors are unable to fulfill the five year residence qualification for their children’s school entry, as they are compulsorily transferred every four years, and some go abroad for training.

Hence they want permanent entry & education up to university entry or entry for some other course for their future, like ALL other parents.

They desire good schools where their children can settle down and study though the parents will serve the public in many hospitals all over the country, during this period of study of their children.

    Hence, their request is reasonable.

Politicians in power obtain the best schools for their children, here or abroad, including those who represent rural areas with poor educational facilities.
Public servants who serve all over the country, at all hours most days, deserve this ‘privilege’ too.

It is disappointing that the minister’s thugs deflated the tyres of their cars.

    • 0
      0

Not only for doctors but for all who are not able to satisfy the five year residence qualification because of mandatory transfers, it is no more than reasonable to give exemption from that particular requirement.

The GMOA should have had the sense to ask for a considered reform that applies to all affected persons instead of behaving like a selfish and spoiled child demanding toys and sweets only for itself.

These are supposed to be, and one hopes they really are, intelligent persons but do not seem to realise that claiming any kind exceptional treatment in a democratic society will sooner or later produce negative consequences. Particularly when they are seen to be better off than most.

Sri Lankan doctors are the worst in the world when it comes to showing off and arrogance. I have seen one doctor attending a temple ceremony. wearing his stethoscope round his shoulders. Honestly such vanity. After all, most of these buggers are just MBBS passed, just a basic degree and on the job training and they think they are gods. It is just another job like everyone else’s; all jobs are important to the society.

If they could afford to send their children to private schools or abroad, fine, let them do it, but it would be grossly unfair to reserve top school places for their kids. Personally I think we should abolish all these names, and make them all National schools. see what school ties have done to our society, corruption galore including the Central Bank debacle.

      Thrisu,

it is just they dont have good TV programs in the country exchanging the thoughts with the patients directly.

Besides, MBBS should also be an another degree to serve the nation with their knowledge. Sure, that has lot to do with the patients/humanbeings direclty there they have to bring with all the kindhearted ness than anything else if the profession to be a great match. Lankens become like Katusage kare raththran banda wage once they get out of the university. As you said, nurses are the ones that hang the stethescope around their neck in Germany, not the medicos…. anyways, just to show off the on lookers these men and women may be doing so… low attitudes in lanken or the like cultures really. Lack of informaton make them even Rajas… in the country. I know myslef some have just come to the UK but being unable to perform well, have returned to lanka. Either their English was not good enough to get on with English patients or various others reasons being unable to get on with the kind of Teams in UK. More of them like Frogs in well mentality bearers.

Have you seen those GMOA men exchange with others on public stage ? There is one secreatary there, he did not even want to share the media what his Alevels results were. He said he had forgotten since the years passed since he sat for Alevels. It is just arrogant behaviours not knowing how their counter parts behaves in GERMANY, UK or any other country in developed world. Basics is to become humble… most of channel doctors I met in SL, once I happened to accompany my aged mother to a neurosurgeon, he never listened to me since he noticed I came from an EU country to visit my elderly mother.

Doctors are also another set of Governement Employees and should be subject to same policy as for other government sector employees who are transferable. By creating a special policy will have an impact on other employees as well as nurses. There are many government officials who works in Colombo or outstation but their kids go to schools in other areas. So this is not a unique problem faced by doctors. Doctors also should also once pass out as graduates should apply & face an interview to get a job as all the other categories like Engineers, clerks etc. These people are pampered so much very soon they will ask for Super Luxury Apartments, Vehicles to Travel, Maids to clean their apartments ,Drivers to drop their kids and take their wives to super markets and what not. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. GROW UP Doctors and stop being cry Babies

Whats the meaning of this. Does education only belong to the privileged. They need to make all school to be English and spend more money on school. This will give both the poor and the rich equal footing. I know now some monk will hate this. I have worked in many companies and most of these operations happen in English. And some of these less privileged students suffer since they can speak it well.

I think education need to be English Medium. So there is no rich/ poor, or religion involved. And give opportunities to everone.

This is a trick played by Patheniya the Mafia boss, he threatens fellow doctors indirectly in various ways and gets him elected, and he did nothing for the GMOA doctors, now he knows that he is loosing support from the doctors as they have known his true motive, and he is playing this drama to get the support of the doctors.

IF the govt is not willing to consider their demands, doctors should consider resigning in mass and opening their own private hospital company.

Here is an opportunity most capable politicians will pray for, and never get in their careers. Fire each an every striker, under the Essential Services Act first. Then, pass a special resolution in Parliament, allowing SAITM educated Doctors and those currently doing their residency to treat and prescribe medications. They cannot do any worse than the strikers.

Remove the tax holiday that was given to them in 1978 from their Channel practice earnings. Take away the Duty-Free car allowance for EVERYONE. Stipulate every government doctor MUST be on duty 40 hours a week, just like the rest of us do in our jobs. No Channeling at 7am, 1pm and then again at 4pm. If they want to make extra money, they should do it on their time.

I will guarantee that after a period of confusion and tragic deaths, life will return to what should have been all along. Equality for all, no special priviledges to anyone. Why should their children study at Royal and the Ralahamis child has to go to the village school? Who do these shits think they are???
