Good Heart But No Blood

By Helasingha Bandara

Notwithstanding all the shortcomings, people still believe that Maithri is leagues ahead of Mahinda in his sincerity, humility, wish to restore democracy, law and order and help the poor. Although he has regained some of his credibility after his recent speech, he must realise that he has made big mistakes and likely to make some more if he does not follow his good heart. Being aware of MR’s undignified personality and the political cunning, friends and well wishers have warned MS of likely manoeuvres of MR. They have suggested countermeasures. MS does not seem to have a panel of readers to gather daily information and pass the most important suggestions and advice to him. The time is ripe for him to involve such a strategy if he intends to survive the five years. This writer suggested the right actions in an article on 26 February entitled “New Regime Should Not Commit Hara-kiri“. That was written soon after the new regime came to power and at the very early stages of Mahinda’s manipulations to get back to power. Just before MR was allowed to contest the elections, another article was published on 20th of June entitled “Maithri Should Sack Them All” followed by “Who Is In A Dilemma”. All those articles highlighted one principle that is to do the right thing without hesitation. People know what is right and reward the right actions.

Sarath and Mahinda

I must add that when Sarath Silva spoke I felt like asking “umba reddak andagenada kathakaranne”. The cultural interpretation is where is your shame, dignity, respect and so on to change your stance that often and regularly. My father used to say “minihek unama kelin ley thienna oone” (to be a real man one should have straight blood). As a child, I had always wondered how can blood be straight. I now understand the meaning. Even if you have a good heart, if you do not have that so called straight blood you do not have the courage to act on your instinct. MS is a strong case in point.

Mistakes of the common alliance

The UNP thought it could capitalise on a potential split of the UPFA into Maithri and Mahinda factions. The JVP thought that all anti Mahinda SLFP vote would go to them in the absence of a Sirisena faction emerging to contest the election. Maithri did not have the vision to sack all of them who wanted to go along with Mahinda and form a new SLFP with a new breed of respectable aspiring politicians. The ideal strategy to defeat Mahinda’s aspiration to return to power could have been a united front of all those parties that worked together to defeat Mahinda at the Presidential election. In Sri Lanka, nothing can beat the power hunger of each and every one who is involved in politics. Such greed and power struggle between parties and individuals leave the voter in the lurch. The SLFP supporters who voted against Mahinda have now been left with a serious dilemma as to whom to vote for. Some of them cannot vote for the UNP and they are left without options.

Cunning or straightforwardness

MS’s speech was full of innuendos about his political cunning in order to achieve some promises he made before Jan 8 elections. Had he done the right thing rather than being politically cunning he could have been in a better position to save the Jan 8 achievements. For example, he said he needed to get the support of the majority of UPFA MPs to get the 19th amendment passed, which was one of the promises. He did not need to. If he warned the MPs that he would reveal who would not support such progressive amendments he would have still got the required support. Similarly, when some people threatened to part company with him he should have let them all go and appoint clean people to head SLFP constituencies. The new people would not have any difficulty to win as people in general are waiting for the emergence of clean, respectable, decent young people to become parliamentarians. Rajapaksa and the clan could have been driven into oblivion easily because people know that the people around Rajapaksa have only one thing in their minds: that is to benefit themselves, their families and cronies from the corrupt political environment that MR has endorsed.

Evil intentions

None of the politicians who support MR can be identified as principled people. At the Jan 8 elections most of them remained on the fence to go with the tide. Some of those who did not openly support Mahinda at the Presidential election have come forward this time hoping the tide may turn in MR’s favour. Almost all of the politicians in Sri Lanka, irrespective of party affiliations, are opportunistic rather than principled. Their understanding of politics is completely skewed that they think politics is a job in which quick bucks can be earned without much difficulty and without any educational, professional and social qualifications.

Although it needed a lot of patience to listen to the politicians who spoke at the Anuradhapura UPFA rally, this writer listened to full speeches of Sarath N. Silva, Gammanpila, Vasu, Tissa, Weerawansa and Mahinda himself. None of them spoke one word about policies, about their past mistakes, how they have been reformed, how they are going to stop all corruption and other antisocial activities and so on. They all gave the usual no substance firework speeches (Mal wedi Katha) repeating that MR saved the country from the Tigers and calling the opponents names, the usual sing song that went on the rallies of Mahinda at the past election. It was Sri Lanka voters who sent Mahinda home not the Americans or the Indian as the speakers insinuated. I must add that when Sarath Silva spoke I felt like asking “umba reddak andagenada kathakaranne”. The cultural interpretation is where is your shame, dignity, respect and so on to change your stance that often and regularly.

Good piece Helasinghe. It is all an unprincipled lot who are with MR. You are right there. Opportunists all. Now Dayan Jayatilleka has joined the bandwagon and got nomination list. Another opportunist. Petrol Susil is also there. And that ambettaya Anura Piyadarshan Yapa who is an arch lackey for corruption

These blood suckers can enjoy the way the picture depicts – but all the folks needs to bear the burden should weep for their entire life. There is no leader since indepennce that has abused people s funds for his benefits as MR … Those who wrote those books against CBK should wake up and ask themselves – why they stay silent today ?
That alone says, Ravaya editor was also perk handled by Mahinda. There is no men that collected funds in illegal ways, if they were subjected to investigations, would come to surface… MR is behind all these.
So, people please be forward and expose everything about anyone who had links with Rajapakshe men … and that then bankrupted any kind of progres

Srilanken lawyers should march against the SN silva’s irresponsible reactions.
Then all others could join them. This man has been behaving as if lanken folks are idiots by birth. How can a man with lanken justic experience – behave this way should be discussed by University dons – so that young generations can learn from those discussions. Actually, this way of behaviours are betraying lanken justic system. CJs should be exemplary by all means. This man to do other way around thinking it could not bring any greater harm – is a joke actually.

Not only this man, but also Dayana Silva Jayathilaka belongs to the same category – these men behave as if they are pants down. Shame on you guys.
      I hate Rajapakshe.
I hate even more SN silva
I hate even more more Dayan Jayathilaka – GOD BLESS TO LANKA

This CJ is shameless. He should be out of lanken political stage.

This kind of srilankens should be made accountable for all the mess that the country faces today. Not even few weeks ago, this man Sarath Donkey Silva sought pardon to have made a wrong verdict in terms of MR ‘s tsunami fund abuse case.
Had he been fair with that, this MR would not have been free today – MR could spend days in lanken prisons.

Srilanka had a good history of Justice system until Sarath N Silva was appointed politically. He violated the norms of justice system and political decisions to convince his masters. He himself agreed that he purposely protected Mahinda from going to jail in a corruption case. Then came, Mohan Peries who made all decisions with political motives and protected Mahinda from all crimes and unlawful activities. These two are the murderers of Justice system. These guys should have been punished immediately after President Mithiri took power.

For the sake of future, this man SN sILVA should be hung by his balls – that can then work as a lession to lanken folks. I become nervous when looking at this man being set free in the lanken lawful system.

What you have not pointed out is that MS came to power by putting a lot of allegations about MR which were not proved at all subsequently. You must realize that most of the people are angry with MS for several things.
    1. He jumped ship and ran with UNP and JHU and kept uttering complete falsehoods against MR. He kept promising Yahapalanaya. He has thus labelled himself as a traitor.
    2. What really happened. MS appointed his kith and kin. In case of MR he only appointed Gota, all the others such as Basil were elected to office. Even though MS ran for a Presidential election he brought in Ranil W and the UNP cabinet to replace the existing Prime Minister and the cabinet without an election for them. He also replaced the Chief Justice without proper procedures being followed.
    3. He should have known that Ranil is a megalomaniac and he began running the country to rack and ruin immediately. All the projects started by MR were stopped, he appointed Arjun Mahendran to Central Bank and brought the Finance Ministry under himself. Then the Bond debacle happened. MS then quickly dissolved Parliament to save RW from a No Confidence motion and the presentation of the COPE report. All this does not look good for Yahapalanaya.
    4. During the last 160 days RW and his UNP cabinet ran a fascist Government arresting and jailing people without any proof of a crime and then letting them go after a while.
    5. In spite of massive investigations of MR and his family using not only local resources but also all the resources of USA, UK, Europe etc. no evidence of bribery or corruption by MR and his family were found, Some of them were even jailed before investigation and after a few months were released due to lack of evidence.

In essence I feel Sri Lankans were taken for a ride by some clever manipulations and now the sympathy is for MR. Not for MS who appears to have cunningly won the Presidential election based on false statements uttered from election platforms.

What is wrong with S. Silva? Too much testosterone even at this age? Then he should direct it towards doing good deeds to the society. Obviously he has no children or grandkids to take care of. In other countries we see seniors (with good pensions) doing lot of volunteer services in hospitals, libraries etc. In Sri Lanka this is rarely practiced. There is no end to the greed for power, money, …(See MR, John Amaratunga, DM Jayaratne, Wickramanayake, Vasu…). Funny thing is that these are the same people who preach “Dhamma?” on public television. This is one of the root causes for most of the trouble in SL.

That speech is nothing. It was given to fool foreign diplomats, specially Secretary Kerry. Appe Annduwa was planing to fool Secretary Kerry by manipulating the election date. When they got tough, New King set up a date for election. But, as per the secret agreement reached through direct meeting and secret meeting and intermediaries, he invited the Old King to stand for election.

Then the foreign diplomat re-tightened the screws again. The New King released Four different unrelated reasons why he allowed the Old King to stand for election.
    1. To defeat Ranil.
    2. To prevent future dominance of Old King by exploiting the the UN Electric Chair verdict that is about be released in September.
    3.To defeat Old king.
    4. It was not he allowed the Old King, it is the party and he does not have power to stop it. When these all did not go well, he gave that speech as the 5th one.

Al Qaeda used to say the victims to win they must escape on all of their attempts, by their victory is only on of them putting out the victims. It is that Al Qaeda theory the Sinhala Intellectual Government too operate. On the last fives, Secretary Kerry did not get fooled. But there is no way he keep escaping this way for ever. Sooner or latter, the Sinhala Intellectual will put him off. Secretary Kerry can do nothing about it.

Referring to how MS flip-flops, Mr. Helasingha Bandara has said, ‘Had he done the right thing rather than being politically cunning he could have been in a better position to save the Jan 8 achievements.’

That is the gist of the article. Well said, Sir.

To be a Man one should have Straight Blood…says the writer quoting his Dad..

Is the writer referring to My3 or Batalanada Ranil or the new UNP Oral brigade Boss Mangala?..

Because the writer is not interested in Mahinda,

And Mahinda doesn’t have to prove his manliness, ,,Right folks

Mahinda in fact was the only one with balls among all our Presidents.

I listened to the speeches too.

Mahinda pointed out that Batalanda Ranil and his offside Galleon Ravi have already stopped 1.5 Million inhabitants earning a living directly or indirectly by stopping all development work which Mahinda had in place before January 8.

Restoring those jobs alone will be one heck of a Policy implementation for the inhabitants, considering the fact that the great majority of these are poor rural Dalits.

UNP strategy was to divide and rule which Batalanda Ranil learned in the US from his crash course on how to defeat Rajapaksa.

    But it didn’t work .

If not for the Cousin and British Tiger Forum Surendran , Batalanda Ranil would have been still warming the Opposition Leader chair.

Polonnaruwa Gamarala Gedera Sirisena may be a good Buddhist in his Public Image,

But he knew how to screw the Elite , Anglicans and the Vellalas to win the coveted Presidency which he would have never won.

SLFP would have never backed him because he is no President material..

Ranil did not have guts to face Mahinda in an election, had to send agents from third parties to do that and this guy deserve to hand over the country!

Think from your head guys, what has Ranil ever achieved for the country?

He is a despot in the making and you will have a job commenting the corruption and the cabal.

Do noe let the hard earned country be destroyed !

What matters is not Ranil, we have to stand against most abusive MR.
You guys who abuse social funds being refuged in UK cant know it right. Today, not even 30% of the nation would see it right MR to be their next leader. MR is good at sowing nationalism – for their crime friendly tactics. The bugger is heartless by all nature. Compare the way he abused LANKEN carrier letting go down billions through his brother in law. Lately, I happened to fly from Dubai to London by Emirates, they I asked why the bugger did not let srilanken to work with emirates further.. branding the issue as the airline being sold out to Emirates.. but what brought srilanken to be free from any cooperations- today how many billions have been lost. -how the bugger would ever pump those funds back to nation ?

Rajapakshe were given enough time, why not you guys allow any good kind of leaders to exercise their chance. Why should the bugger be our head of state for an another term ? Do you want your guys to live on a crime friendly society ?

Please write more good articles depicting the way how MR and thugs attacked Aluthgama people last year. All these must not be repeated in this country. You and able men of your category should fight for justice in this Rajapakshe infected country.
The educated will never want to see the Meeharaka being reelected. But as you know most of them that were let in hallozinated mode by Rajapakshe MEDIA units, will take many more years to see it right. Either those people are born idiots or cant think beyond. So Faz please fight to send the bugger burried in hell forever.

All speakers starting from ex CJ, Sarah New Silva were only talking about making MR as P.M. just forgetting he was defeated as presidential candidate only 6 months ago though he has served 2 terms as President.
There was no major speeches about future plans for the country.
They did not realise that people/ voters are not fools and they cannot be taken for a ride all the time.

As long as the Tamils are there in the country to be scapegoated and the memory of the dead LTTE snake is there to be whipped repeatedly in the believe that will resurrect, regretting that it was a great mistake to kill it.
So why should MR & Co, worry about future plans for the country if the voters are regarded to be fools?

Maithree could not do much as the head of SLFP. His hands were tied as many in the central committee support MR.

My3 addressed the nation after the nominations closed as he didn’t want a split in the party. Else, MR would have run seperately and SLFP would have been divided which is very bad for the country without a good opposition. When MR goes home (on Aug 18) for good, My3 has a chance of having his way, to breed a good team of people at least at the next election. My3 will not run for president again and may run for PM at the next election.

    @Srinath

Who won the war for us? It was Fonseka, all three armed forces and the Police who fought the war for us. It was Champika and Rev. Ratana who pushed MR to fight LTTE. MR was only interested in peace talks. MR had a contract with the Tigers (and paid Prabha too) to defeat Ranil in 2005. Dont forget. Karuna Amman was made a big shot in the SLFP by MR, not Ranil.

You cant see idiots like Srinath ever sensing the right thing.
Go to Medamulana or any other rural conrners of the country, you will find more of Srinatha like men and women would stay caputh marunath Rajata. Their intoxications dont allow to feed them with facts. Reason it is the education levels they earned this life.
How come a man who hs been lving in the UK for that many years to see it right attacking MUSLIMS by BARBARIC Ghanasara remot control by Rajapakshe Men being behind the screen ? We are all srilankens, for me be them muslims, tamils burgher or other those who were born to lanka are srilankens and should have equal rights while living though with variend ethinic backgrounds.
If Turks living in Germany or pakistanis living in UK would be harrassed to the manner, lanken minorities face it, Sure UK democractic organisations would not stay AS Rajapakshe deliberately did. Their blood are filled with all kind mixed feelings. I am even more into federal states as it is the case in Germany or other european countries. Then only we can see the country is marching towards the prospher

This “Sarath N de Silva Factor” in MR’s campaign is none other than the “INCOMPETENCY” of a “LEADER” who is preparing to return to Govern the country. MR, to begin with, should have that “average intelligence” of making an assessment of the “Peoples’ support” one has earned over a period of time in whatever public domain he/she was involved in. The whole country, meaning the people are aware who this entity called “Sarath N de Silva was and is. He is a person who failed to earn a single day of honour in his own profession and that is a fact proven by facts and more than anything else his own “confessions”. So, if such a person is made to appear in an election campaign and stand with you publicly and also worse of all to “address” the gathering, what type of “LEADERSHIP” and “COMPETENCY”, Mr.Mihinda Rajapakse is showing to the voter? Not only “Sarath N de Silva” but very many who were seated in the front raw and behind showed us the TYPES of “Nominations” that UPFA has presented to us to vote on 17th August election. What valuable speeches and “PERFORMANCE” one could expect from such a “BUNCH” of PROVEN FAILED Parliamentarians who follow chanting nothing but, Mahinda, Mahinda, Mahinda. That “Chanting” itself is enough of a loud and clear
MESSAGE” we voters have got from this proven “POOR LEADER” (mind you that also in his own admission and confession) who claims a bid to come back to govern the country. I suppose this “HE” and his “TEAM” would realize it on that day of 17 August, 2015.

Sarath Silva : karawe or durawe caste.

Rajapakse govigama but not blue blooded unlike Ranil or Chandrika; and they lack class of westernized English speakers.

They’ll say or do anything to grab all the privileges they had to give up . They need the power to justify their empty lives devoid of intelligence. Sarath got caught with his trousers down. Covered up Helping Hambantota and then fell out and back with his buddy from legal days. People aren’t fooled. Kandy will send a message to these low country thug fellows and MR will not get one vote from us Kandyans

Rajapakay saga would have been ended long ago had this Mohan rightly given the verdict in ”Helping Hambantota” scandal where Rajapakaya swindled millions of Dollors from international donors!!!!
Like you can’t straighten the dog’s tail, Mohan had a taste of corruption and illicit sex which will go to the grave with him.

No wonder he was there witht he Anuradaphura crroks and thugs!!!!
