Gotabhaya, Weerawansa And Champika Are Part Of An International Conspiracy

LSSP Leader and Senior Minister Tissa Vitharana said yesterday the demand by certain government members to abrogate the 13th Amendment could be an international conspiracy to embarrass Sri Lanka at the November UNHRC sessions in Geneva, Daily Mirror print edition reports.

Tissa Vitharana

“Those who are campaigning against the 13th Amendment were supplying ammunition to our detractors who are hell bent on destabilizing Sri Lanka. The suggestions to abrogate the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was extremely unfortunate and will bring vastly negative repercussions,” said the Minister who chaired the APRC and submitted a set of proposals on power devolution to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“I am sorry that some government members are carrying out a campaign to abrogate the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which introduced the Provincial Council system that led to all the militant groups except the LTTE to give up arms and enter the democratic process under a unitary state. If under any circumstances the 13th Amendment and thereby the PCs were abrogated –I hope it will never happen – it will diminish and dash all hopes of not only Tamils but all Tamil-speaking people of this country to live in a united Sri Lanka as one nation with the Sinhalese. This is disastrous to the extreme,” Dr. Vitharana told Daily Mirror.

He said if there were weaknesses in the 13th Amendment those had to be corrected in a collective effort which will meet the aspirations of all Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims. The position of the LSSP is that the 13th Amendment has to be further strengthened by devolving power to the village level to ensure there would be no seeds of separatism on Sri Lankan soil, the Daily Mirror reported.

Ministers Champika Ranawaka, Wimal Weerawansa and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are campaigning against the  13th Amendment to the Constitution.

These old leftists, having abandoned the cause of the working class from 1964 and betraying their struggles; gave-up the ‘one language’ two nations slogan and betrayed the minorities in drafting (Colvin) and supporting a constitution that removed the provisions of safeguards to minority rights; still hangs to a Govt. which threw into the dustbin the APRC proposals which they made; always talked about foreign conspiracies for their own weaknesses and betrayals. Cannot Tissa say that Gota, Wimal, Champika are the foreign agents and demand that they should be get rid of the Govt. if they the(Tissa and his colleagues) will leave the Govt. otherwise. It would be some self respect for these leftists to leave the Govt. and join the mass struggle that is in the process of development.

You are 100% correct my friend. Those who had no past will also not have a future. Tissa is another parasite like Dew Gunasekara and Vasu. They such everything what they like from any government. These conspirators must get ready to march towards “God’s litte acre” now onwards:

Dr Tissa Vitharana is a honest, learned man who means well. But the dominating culture within which he functions is seething in duplicitous politics garbed in chicanery. He worked hard and well to produce a device to bring peace, unity and prosperity to all communities in the country. He was stabbed in the back – and you know by whom????

      Senguttuvan,

Tissa Vitharana does not have a backbone. He and his pseudo leftist colleagues supporting the Rajapaksa regime are nothing but opportunists. They not only helped Rajapaksa to pass the many anti democratic legislations in parliament but were also silent partners in the criminal conspiracy of the regime to annihilate/ subjugate the tamil people in Sri Lanka. These people were and are collaborators of Rajapaksa’s criminal actions against the Sri lankan people and therefore should be treated with contempt. I would just ignore what they say.

What is honesty if one cannot stick his principles and kick-out positions that hinder him from sticking to his principles. I could give one example in Sri Lanka of one who sticks to his principles. Bala Tampoe, the well known Trade Union leader, he was on several occasions offered various positions in Govts. He refused saying he would never join any Govt. that is not truly pro-working class. He was twice (once by Chandrika and then by MR) offered awards for long-standing service to the working class. He refused on both occasions saying ‘He derives honour from serving the working class and he does not look for any honours who are not pro-working class. Here is an example of honest service true one’s principles that people like Tissa can take to mind and leave this world with some respect.

All the leftist are f….. opportunists their actions prove that beyond any doubt. For example how they help to destroy the democracy of the country with the 18th amendment.

you say, “Dr Tissa Vitharana is a honest, learned man who means well.”
That is completely wrong, every single word. More than that need not be said because the facts and Sri Lankan history speak loudly enough about this parasite.

Tissa Vitharana says,’the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which introduced the Provincial Council system that led to all the militant groups except the LTTE to give up arms and enter the democratic process under a unitary state’. I believe barring the NE the rest of the PCs have certainly allowed not only the militant groups but also the Underworld to enter the PCs. ‘Chuti Malli’, ‘Maru Sira’ ‘One Shot’ are all members of the PCs as Chairmans and Deputy Chairmans. They rape, kill, rob, drug peddle, abduct and what not they do to develop this country? One of these days MR will remove Tissa Vitharana’s pants without him knowing. It makes no difference, as he has no shame at all. Yet another Trinitian whose name will go down in History with the rest.

Tamils have never listed their grievances and asked any government to cure it. Instead their elected MPs or MPs of the TNA or ex LTTE proxies have come up with an uncanny aspiration as a remedy.

Grievances we should cure but aspirations not for it is full of hidden agenda. Let’s make no mistake; the goal of aspirations was and still is Eelam.

LTTE wanted a straight run to Eelam with its wacky ISGA. Every Tamil waited eagerly for the D day. And they include those that were whacked and mollycoddled by LTTE.

If RanilW hadn’t been thrown out by ChandrikaK, LTTE would have been marching over us by now. I mean not to say ChandrikaK is our savoir; she was only a stop gap for our savoir MahindaR to be elected as president.

LTTE is a python in the jungle now. But this ex-chair man of APRC, Withrana is a two headed snake under the bed. What more proof than he talked the need to implement APRC recommendations while hundreds of thousand people gathered to pay tribute to the heroic forces for ending the war.

The man is so thick he does not give up. For our good luck, half-witted chair man has already become the dim-witted no chair man of APRC. Witharana is not elected but appointed; he cannot get elected even to a municipality.

We Sri Lankans both the Tamil and the Sinhalese never asked for the 13th amendment. It was the outcome of a lousy act by an egoistic young prime minister that belittled a timid old president with a few bags of parippu.

Old man pushed it through parliament only with resignation letters of his MPs in his pocket. It had cost the country a fortune by way of life and wealth over the next twenty years. And to date, it continues to divide us all. Tamils want 13A plus and Sinhalas don’t want it at all.

If I remember right, both local and the foreign proponents of it told us that magic wand of 13A would remedy all our ills and ill wills that they thought we are ailed with. But it had not functioned where it meant to be. So, no Tamil had experienced it in the North to date.

When the PC started functioning in the Eastern Province at long last, no Tamil, Muslim or Sinhalese in the East have benefited from it for the last three years. No Tamil, Muslim or Sinhalese in the South have benefited from it for the last twenty years. Only shady Politicians have profited from it with no race barrier.

Those Politicians that could not have elected to parliament made use of it to reach some power. Over five hundred of them got expensive SUV each duty free for a paltry sum every five years. Not just that, they got their perks, kickback and the whole lot.

Chief Minister of East had done nothing except to bemoan; “without police and land powers my job is useless”. So far neither he nor the ones that are to contest in the north had dropped the word ‘Eelam’ and ‘Pulikal or tiger’ from their party names or its acronyms to date. Bestow them with the powers; they will soon want more. Give it, give it all, ex-Chair man; you will end up in the eternal hell to burn forever.

Muddle headed chair man professor is so engrossed with his federal agenda to realize the aim of Tigers and their cubs. He does not realize that 13A was rammed down our throat by an intruder that made us gulp it.

Everyone is divided on the full implementation of the 13th amendment. So are the parliamentarians of the government and the opposition. They are all divided openly on this point. If there is a Plebiscite, Sinhalese will vote robustly against it and the Tamils in favour of it.

I am indeed sad if you have forgotten about ‘pythons’ so quick.

      Quoting from your comment:

“If RanilW hadn’t been thrown out by ChandrikaK, LTTE would have been marching over us by now. I mean not to say ChandrikaK is our savoir; she was only a stop gap for our savoir MahindaR to be elected as president”

I would like to read from you, why you -Leela think that RW would have paved the way LTTE to march over us if CBK let RW to govern further ?

I really dont think that any sinhalaya would ever allow terrorists to invade lanken territories ? These are just lies to corner RW politically. Leela, there are STILL significant fraction of lanken population (majority sinhalese and other minorities)- that would not respect mass killings even if they too want peace and harmony to be resorted as had been before 83.

      • 0
        0

Dan, this hackneyed theory that RW would have given part of the country to the LTTE, had he continued, being rescued by CBK and at the hustings that followed the LTTE without electing RW and securing what the LTTE were to get, helps MR to Presidency. What convoluted Logic of these Donkeys? They keep on repeating this, thinking the public will buy this, to tarnish RW.

      • 0
        0

        Dan
You sound like a great admirer of RanilW. I do not object, we need them as well. In fact, there are a few ardent ones next my house as well who I meet regularly. But mind you, they are a vanishing breed.

Your attributing “would not respect mass killings even if they too want peace and harmony to be resorted as had been before 83” to RanilW alone made me think, for you guys, peace, Harmony, ‘not respect mass killings’ are all RanilW specialty and is out of bound for others. I am puzzled!

Leave out stopping war and killings, RanilW couldn’t even stop LTTE recruiting children. MR on the other hand went far beyond RanilW. MR not just stopped LTTE recruiting children; he had put a stop to all LTTE atrocities and brought about real peace to entire Lanka. Few incidents here and there cannot bury that truth. Problem is; that is anathema for some people.

So, if you fail to interpret ongoing peace as real peace that is a problem of understanding. You see, such people are like the followers of the creator God; they study nature and Darwin’s theory of evolution and etc but still believe in all powerful God and his creation. There is no cure for such illness.

Leela, oh Leela, you seem to be no better than a Wimal or a Champika to relate unrelated stories The history of the issue did not begin from the 13th Amendment or the emergence of the LTTE or the TNA, but much before that. Reading back might make you able to relate better stories.

No one would take what Prof. Tissa Vitarana says quite seriously. He like his leftist colleagues Vasu and DEW lost their credibility long ago. They have already sold their souls in their bid to enjoy the Ministerial perks. Their hypocrisy and political nudity were exposed when they voted for the 18th Amendment. What has become of the report of the APRC Prof. Vitarana chaired? Did he have the backbone to tell the people why the public funds and the valuable man-hours spent on the exercise went down the drain? Did he at least learn a lesson when the APRC report which he and many labored to produce was contemptuously consigned to the dust bin? Any other self-respecting person may have reacted in some way if he were made to suffer such indignity. But the good professor did not. Going by his past record, we can rest assured that the professor will definitely vote for the proposed 19th Amendment Bill to repeal the 13th Amendment when it is presented in Parliament and will happily continue to enjoy the Ministerial perks!

The Rajapaksa regime is a war machine, that cannot be stop. It can survive only in a state of permanent warmongering; so it is natural that they will keep on hitting their enemies (or considered as such). The oppression of the Tamils is instrumental to maintain the adrenaline high and possibly to trigger a reaction that will satify even more the necessity of permanent violence of this regime.

These are only the sparring rounds.
Wait until Round # 10 comes – and the vote is taken on the repeal of the 13 th amendment.
This is the same lot that supported the 18th Amendment – the most draconian bit of legislation introduced in our parliamentary history – with the comment “…we are against the amendment in principle…but will support it in practice”
So dont expect anything different this time..they will piddling in their pants…and meekly raising their hands …so that they can continue to enjoy the perks of office.

The so-called father of Marxism/Socialism in Sri Lanka,Philip Gunawardena, started the rotting of the leftist movement in Sri Lanka by joining SWRD in 1956 and forming a Govt. with him. Now his son, Dinesh, has become a commulanist. NM followed Philip in getting the LSSP to join the Srimavo Govt. in 1964. So on the rot continued. Now Vitharana, NMs nephew has become an apologist to all the manipulations of the MR Govt.

Dr Vitarana can salvage a little of his nearly completely gone self respect by advocating devolution for the only parts of the country where it is needed, that is, the north and the east. The Sinhala areas do not need devolution. The old kachcheri and DRO system, properly restored, would work fine. The provincial councils in the Sinhala areas serve only to legitimize local thuggery and are a white elephant. Dr Vitarana can propose this to the government and if unsuccessful, he can resign, without continuing to disgrace the name of the great N.M.

I sincerely hope the rational analysis of readers like Mr. HL Seneviratne will prevail for the good of the future of our country.
I have argued for PC/Devolution to the Tamil majority areas of the country and am convinced this will work – given time, support and resources. At least let us give this a try for a few years and forget this delusion of the area merging with the relatively developed and stable South Indian State of Tamilnadu.
