Gota’s Arrest: Sirisena, Ranil Take Law Into Their Hands

President Maithripala Sirisena, in assurances given to civil society representatives, has clearly implied that the prosecution of certain individuals suspected of wrongdoing was in the hands of the political leadership, namely himself and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and not necessarily a matter for law enforcement and prosecuting authorities.

Gamini Viyangoda, one of the civil society representatives who had met with Sirisena to discuss moves to unify the SLFP and the possible repercussions for the Unity Government, said the President had assured the group that the arrest of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and the former Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development ‘had been delayed pending the return of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.’

‘The Island,’ quoted Viyangoda as saying that Sirisena had revealed that ‘there had been consensus that the arrest shouldn’t be made in the absence of premier Wickremesinghe.’

Rajapaksa is accused of misusing state funds to construct a memorial for his father at Weeraketiya.

Earlier, Colombo Telegraph revealed that the Attorney General had sought Wickremesinghe’s approval for the arrest, to which the Prime Minister had responded saying that it was up to the AG to do what was required.

Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that the delegation, following the meeting, had expressed doubts among themselves with respect to Sirisena’s assurances, illegal though they are.

‘ekata aappa kaala avith viruddhava chande illapu eka ne,’ (he’s the one who, having had hoppers [with Mahinda Rajapaksa], came out and announced he would contest [Rajapaksa]) they had mused.

The delegation comprised Ven. Dambara Amila, Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya, K.W. Janaranjana, Saman Ratnapriya and Viyangoda.

      Sach,
You are right. It is the NGO gang with 6,2 million voters behind them, who now expect results. Voters demand killers and thieves of the Rajapassa regime be imprisoned. Nothing less will do.
      Cheers!
PS: How much do you get in return for licking Rajapassa boots so well? What ever it is, I hope compensation is generous.

Attorney General and IGP should immediately resign If the arrest of Gota has to be approved by Sirisena, Ranil and Buddhist monks.

What has happen to the law enforcement in this country??.

Hope civil society will stand up to this nonsense.

Gosh !! How this country has gone to the dogs.

We have no hope at all.

The country has already gone to the dogs.- Oh where are you Mr. Nagananda Kodituwakku – the Public Interest Litigator and next

        DEar Jagath,

Indeed the country has gone to the dogs and I will not be the only one saying so.

It is with a lot of hope that this country was delivered to the two top men, but events have proved they haven’t the caliber to wear the mantles of ‘top men’.

Good governance starts with good actioned principles. Both the top men are guilty of putting them aside when it suits them.

A county that believes in selective justice can only be very close to anarchy.

President Maitripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe,

Thre is a constitution for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, ad Laws.

Your job is the implementation of the constitution and the laws.

Your job is NOT to protect crooks and killers, and claim that you are above the constitution and the law.

If so, you will have to be impeached.

When would you like the impeachment procedures to begin? Tomorrow?

    Sir,
Wanting to arrest this compulsive serial killer for that relatively minor Weeraketiya affiar? What an EYEWASH! There is a mountain of evidence directly implicating Gota for Welikada Prison masssacre. Not to mention MIG Deal & Avant Garde crimes. How about LW killing & Ratupasswala shooting? How about covering up Tajudeen murder? Who secretly transported Duminda Silva on a private jet to Singapore? Put those all aside. Get him for Weeraketiya affair. Even that reluctantly for a few days at Welikada SPA Retreat. AG is a spineless CROOK! He deserves nothing less than a Lalith Weeratunga style treatment. All inclusive at Welikada Prison Hospital for a week. I repeat Sri Lankans are STUPID. Do re-install these corrupt CLOWNS again in 2020 to run this country. You all have a very “BRIGHT FUTURE”.
    Cheers!

We know not much about the MIG deal and Avant Garde. That is why many in this forum want to have Dr Gota (DSc) arrested, subjected to interrogation, collect evidence, charge him in courts, ………….. Let the court find him guilty or innocent.

Interesting times. The threat of arrests is a tool to cow opponents especially during election times. The purported crime of building a memorial is even more interesting…………..Public reaction would be a point of interest too given the context when central bank robbers are roaming free and living in robber provided suites. When millions of public funds are wasted on empty buildings. etc. etc.

Ben, You could’nt have said it any better.

This AG and the law enforcement authorities are a crying shame to our country. Why the hell do they call President or PM when they want to arrest someone as deadly as GOTA?

True that MY3 lambasted the Bribery Commissioner and FCID for doing their job, but if you are doing your job with utmost professionalism and unbiased, why fear even the President or PM for that matter. Bloody spineless pimps. Better to wear the sarees of their wives and stay at home, if they cannot act like men and face the consequences if the need be, for a just and fair cause. Why live like cowards and put a Nation in tatters.

Man dies only once, cowards die a thousand times before their death. Better to die as a man, than live a coward. Wake up you cowards without ruining the lives of generations to come, due to your cowardice. These are the aspirations of 6.2 Million people and you stay on the way, like a bloody coward. This is for you, bloody AG and whoever standing on the way obstructing justice.

Help rescue our country from killers and racketeers or get the hell out of the way and hand it over to some real men, who will do the job for the country.

This can’t be true. If the President actually said what is in the report then he is not suitable for the post of President. It is just like “Game gaanu Katha” It says that he is the only one blocking everything. If he brave enough to appoint a bond commission why he need PM’s consent to arrest Gota if he has done some wrong things? Forget Gota what about the other cases. Rathupaswella case, Waseem Thajudeen case, lasantha, Raviraj, Prageeth Eknaligoda, Mig Deal, Hedging , commonwealth game deal, Greek bond case, killing 11 youths for ransom, Walikada prison killing and other so many crimes that took place during previous regime. Under whose knowledge Armed forces hiding information related to high profile killings? How Anusha Palpita and his buddy got bail directly from the high court? why Siriliya investigation stopped? Under whose instructions files belongs to Dilan Perera, Susil Premajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa being blocked? How the file belongs to Sajin Vaas Gunawardana missing from the AG Dept? Who send that Lady, Dilrukshi Dias Bandaranayaka Home? Why AG wants approval either from President or Prime Minister? Why can’t AG act on the facts before him? If the AG Dept. can summon powerful ministers like Ravi K, Malik Samarawickrama, Khabeer Hasheem and Prime Minister before the commission why they need approval from PM or President to arrest Gota? Our President is following “Bandakka theory” now. While blocking Lankaenews he is allowing Keeli Maharaja’s “Kakkussi Kata” to destroy UNP. You are safe as long as you are with 62 laks people who voted for you and if you betray them and in case if Rajapaksha’s grab the power you will be the first one to go under 6 feet. Once traitor always traitor.

Gota will not be arrested because “Kaha Pati brigade” will put the pressure on Yahapalana President. Kaha pati brigade is the biggest curse in the Country. There is no Leader in the Country with a strong backbone to tell this Kaha pati brigade to not to interfere in Govt. Administrative matters as civil society, various organizations, various political parties are there to intervene if the Govt. takes decisions that will affect the Country. If not Govt. should resign asking Kaha pati brigade to govern the Country. I am just referring to Group of Political monks belongs to Rajapaksha Nikaya only. Most of other Monks follow the Lord Buddha’s path and this Political thug Monks ruin the Buddhism. If the Kaha pati brigade wants to protect Killers labeling them as “Ranaviruwo” it can’t be Buddhism. Probably they following “Devadaththa” foot path.

Today, law enforcement and politics are inextricably linked with resulting injustice to citizens, and flouting of justice to politicians and their minions.
Gotabaya R is just one of many political minions who flouted the law on a massive scale as enforcer of the PTA, as procurer of war weapons and deputy commander of the forces during the war.
His victims are still in jail though there is no case against most of them, except “confessions” obtained by torture.
Now the Sangha is out to protect him from Justice !!

      • 1
        0

Which state are you referring to? as most of the Tamils live outside the north and east! It will not solve your problems. All issues should be discussed and sorted out for everyone living in the island!

The legislators have enacted laws how to deal with people who commits crimes, dealing in corruption, money laundering and various other crimes The laws apply for all citizens whether they are in high office or an ordinary citizen. If it is a genuine democracy, the enforcement of the law is paramount irrespective of who they are. Rajapaksas have plundered the country whole sale and still they are enjoying their life as they are in power still. Billions of dollars and jewellery captured by the armed forces from the LTTE coffers and which belong to the Tamil community are still in the hands of the Rajapaksas. Then comes the Bond scam. Many individuals had made millions of Rupees and they not been punished yet. There are people in high office who made millions out of the Bond scam. Bribery and corruption is at a high level on all levels. Will it stop- N it won’t

The process of justice and law-order is a joke now. No wonder Tamils have
no faith in this system and want out asap. The Sinhala Nation and system
will make this happen – sooner than later.
The Courts and Justice are now respecters of persons. There is a law for the Tamils, as seen by the fate of the youth incarcerated without trial – and another for the Sinhalese. Don’t blame Justice Vigneswarent. He knows what
he is saying publicly. And so does the region and the world.

So finally we have confirmation that Sri Lanka is now a Police State.

A police state is not when police take over the state but when politicians take over the police and law enforcement. Which compel them to discharge their duties to the whim and fancies of politicians.

“Yahapalanaya” brings new meaning to the word.

What is the case against Mr. GR? It is in regard to misuse of funds of RDA, amounting to Rs. 97 million that he “authorized” in his capacity as the Secretary in-charge to build “DA Rajapakse Museum and Memorial” in Weeraketiya. Already Rs. 25 million has been refunded. The balance remaining is Rs.72 million. It was “STATES’s FUNDS” – the PEOPLES’ money that has been spent to build a “Museum & a Memorial” in honor of his Father Late Mr. D.A.Rajapakse. Who was this Mr. D.A.Rajapakse? He was a MP and a Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Land & Land Development of the Late Prime Minister Mr. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike. Please note, he (Mr.DAR) was never a Member of a “Cabinet” even though Mr. Hudson Samarasinghe the ex Chairman of SLBC claimed that this Late MR. DAR was a “Founding Member of SLFP”. He, Mr.Hudson used to say on air that he (Mr DAR) signed the “Document” that created SLFP washed is hands while working in his paddy field. Very strange such a “Highe Flyer” in the SLFP was not even given a Cabinet Portfolio by Mr. SWRD. WHY? Was it because Late Mr. SWRD was a very “Ungrateful” Leader OR there were many other REASONS for this “Founding Member” found “Wanting” to be awarded a Cabinet Portfolio. However, I do not wish to deal with that aspect here; but I leave it to the readers to find for themselves. So this “Memorial & Museum” was not in honor of a Cabinet Minister of the MEP Government of the “Pancha Maha Balavegaya” of 1956 under Late Mr. SWRD. The PEOPLE of this country have already built such a “Memorial and a Museum” at Horagolla in honor of the “1956 Pancha Maha Balavegaya” Leader – Late Mr. SWRD. The PEOPLE of this country have already built such a “Memorial and a Museum” at Horagolla in honor of the “1956 Pancha Maha Balavegaya” Leader – Late Mr. SWRD. If any others, such as children or relatives of that Cabinet & Secretaries of 1956 MEP Government want to build such “Memorials & Museums”, that must not be by the PEOPLE; but entirely at their EXPENSE ; but NOT with PUBLIC FUNDS.
    cont…

    Part II of my comment:
So that balance of RDA Funds of Rs. 72 million that belonged to the PEOPLE must be recovered from anyone who MISMANAGED and MISHANDLED that account. The person who was responsible for that MISMANAGEMENT of RDA funds amounting Rs. 97 million has been IDENTIFIED as Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse. So now proceed to RECOVER the balance Rs. 72 million. What is WRONG with that ACTION? I stopped saying:” What is wrong with that…” One who says it is WRONG is Dr.Sarath Amunugama – the Minister of Special Assignmens.. He says, Mr. GR has not spent this money for “personal Gain” and on that count he (GR) must not be “penalized”. That is the “Yahapalanaya” view. Next the spokesman of JO, Mr. Bandula Gunawardane says, GR should not be “targeted” for this expenditure, because were it not for him (GR) we would never have been able to win the war against terrorist LTTE. Taking both that “Considered, Intelligent and Wise” opinions; one on the Govt, side Dr. Sarath Amunugama can bring a proposal and endorsed by the JO spokesman Mr. Bandula Gunawardane to the Cabinet and grant “Covering Approval” for the TOTAL money spent as Rs. 97 million and refund that Rs. 25 million (already paid back) to GR. Then PEOPLE of Sri Lanka can therefore “Resolve” that amount of money (Rs. 97 million) as an “EX-GRATIA” payment for all efforts put on to win the war AND proceed with rest of the ALLEGATIONS pending against this person Gotabaya Rajapakse. But, both the Yahapalanay; the JO and all other Fronts including those of Buddhist Priests MUST NOT claim IMMUNITY on being GR a WAR HERO. as and when all the pending allegations are investigated and Law Suites are instituted. Also, that would give Law Enforcement Institutions to do their work INDEPENDENTLY, without seeking approval from President, Prim Minister or any other Political Authority. It would be money well spent.

This f..ing AG is a bloody disgrace. why the F… has he to get permission from MS or RW to arrest this murderer and crook Gota? The AG appears to have been bought over by the Rajafuksas – probably a bottle of arrack some string hoppers and a prostitute will do the trick. Civil society must now sack the AG and imprison the shit for dereliction of duties. Time for the citizens to catch this eunuch and hang him by what is left under his waist.

The UNP/Sirisena Gov has all the evidence it needs to arrest Gota, MR, Basil and the whole family. The delay of justice (justice which the people voted for in 2015) has been delayed by these two at the cost of the people’s wishes as an election ploy. This includes the Thuajudeen case which the Rajapakse’s are complicit of. Now they will start exhuming bodies at the expense and torment of the victim’s families. Is this what you call good governance????????

Sri Lanka needs a fresh face in leadership. We the people need to actively look for this person beyond the current brood in parliament.

The Saffron Clad Gorillas are the bane of my beloved country. Sir John once referred to them as “PADIKKAN PURAWANA UN”. How true. There is crime that they are not involved in. SWRD was killed by Somarama and Buddharakkitha. How on earth can a killer be called Buddharakkitha. He was a womanizer, drunkard, businessman, thug and all what I did not mention. Every Buddhist monks should be kept at a distance. They have no right to engage in politics. We lost the right for our children to learn English because of this pirivena educated rascals out of jealousy. Even after six decades we are in that same situation, when India and even Maldives are galloping. Fellows like Galagodaatte were created by that shit GOTA. That clan should be castrated wholesale. I have given up worshiping them. Do not go to temple. Instead I observe my religion at home.

There is a lot of innuendo here, and it is damaging the social fabric which binds all of us to those who govern us, in terms of trust and belief. Those directly affected are the President and the Prime Minister.

Why don’t they build up that trust, by firstly, addressing these issues directly – bull by the horns fashion. Just use these postings and answer them.

It is called ‘clearing the air’.

If they don’t do that, then the criticism they cop can be considered fair.

History should never be repeated but we The people are sometimes too lame we let some individuals or groups to makes us all a bunch of scapegoats to achieve their agendas. Just admit you want to save Dr Gota’s a**e even though he has been implicated in war crimes, crime against humanity, murders, fraud, ….. owning a dead squad, ….. and being the national hangman.

Feel free to say he is your hero hence its worth saving him from all sorts of investigations simply because he killed many innocent people than any other Sri Lankan leader ready to admit.

Basically you want to save a racist alleged killer, exonerate him from all crimes without being charged for any crimes. Your wish will be granted as you know this island is being run by Sinhala/Buddhist fascists.

      Aren’t you one of them.

In case if Sirisena finds his own b***s and summon the courage to arrest him, will you join the mob and attack minorities? Are you ready to start a large scale riot on short notice? Have you got the list of targets? Are the local saffron clad thugs free on the day of your planned attack? ……………………

Please let me know the date time and the area you intent to cover, I will come and stand there as an observer.
