Gota’s Arrest: Sirisena, Ranil Take Law Into Their Hands

President Maithripala Sirisena, in assurances given to civil society representatives, has clearly implied that the prosecution of certain individuals suspected of wrongdoing was in the hands of the political leadership, namely himself and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and not necessarily a matter for law enforcement and prosecuting authorities.

Gamini Viyangoda, one of the civil society representatives who had met with Sirisena to discuss moves to unify the SLFP and the possible repercussions for the Unity Government, said the President had assured the group that the arrest of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and the former Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development ‘had been delayed pending the return of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.’

‘The Island,’ quoted Viyangoda as saying that Sirisena had revealed that ‘there had been consensus that the arrest shouldn’t be made in the absence of premier Wickremesinghe.’

Rajapaksa is accused of misusing state funds to construct a memorial for his father at Weeraketiya.

Earlier, Colombo Telegraph revealed that the Attorney General had sought Wickremesinghe’s approval for the arrest, to which the Prime Minister had responded saying that it was up to the AG to do what was required.

Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that the delegation, following the meeting, had expressed doubts among themselves with respect to Sirisena’s assurances, illegal though they are.

‘ekata aappa kaala avith viruddhava chande illapu eka ne,’ (he’s the one who, having had hoppers [with Mahinda Rajapaksa], came out and announced he would contest [Rajapaksa]) they had mused.

The delegation comprised Ven. Dambara Amila, Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya, K.W. Janaranjana, Saman Ratnapriya and Viyangoda.

I am trying to list the misdeeds of Gota. He robbed several billions of rupees in the forged deal. If anybody wants I have all the details of the rouge transaction that was published by The Sunday Times. He is the number one killer in the Rajapaksa squad. Lasantha Wickrematunga was killed in broad daylight in a high security zone. His children lost a loving father. His wife lost a companion for life, The loss to his family is irreparable and we countrymen lost a fearless top class journalist. He was aware of the killing of an up and coming Rugger player in Thajudeen. The involvement of A numskull like DIG Senanayake, who I thought with his liking for music, in order to destroy the evidence is the work of dustbin GOTA. He killed Ekneligoda. The poor lady is going round the world with his photo on the bosom. These are acts that should be condemned by all peace loving people. What was the threat created by a simple folk like Ekneligoda. His wife and children has no way of finding the means to eat and drink let alone other needs. Rathupaswala massacre he and he alone is responsible. If by any chance I were to be the father of any of those children killed by now I would have sent the fellow to the other world. For that reason alone he should be hanged [ THE REST LATER]

Ekneligoda was killed by [Edited out]. What about Lasantha same killer. What about Richard Zoysa. ? What about the thousands killed and tortured at Batalanda. Who protected Biyagama Sunil sent to jail for 15 years for rape and pardoned by JR. after 6 months after intervention of Batalandaya Ranil. We don’t give a damn for Ekneligoda.

In my two parts comment, I have erroneously referred to “RDA” instead of “UDA”. Wherever “RDA” is used that must be read as “UDA”. Sorry for the mistake.

    DPR,
I have over the years collected paper cuttings relating to the misdeeds of the MARA era. All these have been investigated by the CID and about 14 cases are before the Courts. I will only supports all efforts to send the whole family to the quad.
    DIDN’T
Gota was behind the Avan guard scandal.
Gota behind the “pump and dump’ scandal in the SEC compelling even Ms Sugathadasa and Tilak Karunaratne to resign as Chairperson of the SEC. They were appointed by MARA. Who else is more powerful. This was done with that infamous Dilith Jayaweera who founeded DeranaTV with his ill-gotten money running into billions of rupees.
