Government Bans Military From Taking Part In Rajapaksa Victory Day

Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi has issued a directive to all military personnel, banning them from taking part in any war related commemorations, other than the events organized by the Government.

Mahinda Rajapaksa

Mahinda Rajapaksa

The move comes amidst reports that a commemoration has being organized in Kurunegala which is expected be held under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who has not been invited for the commemoration to be held in Colombo on May 18, which will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

However, the Kurunegala event is supposed to be on May 19.

Hettiarachchi told a news conference in Colombo that permission has not being granted to any military personnel to attend any commemoration event in Kurunegala.

The defence secretary also added that due to the high cost, the commemoration event organised by the government will not have a military parade, but a cultural show will be held at the Independence Square in Colombo, after the commemoration ceremony at the War Heroes Monument in Battaramulla.

Mahinda Rajapaksa looks very sad that he is denied of his Military toys and Playsets.

Basil might spring some last minute miracles as he has already started talking to generals.

Why is the corrupt clown Mahinda Jarapassa not arrested and behind bars?!
MR and his corrupt family have looted Sri Lankan people and are CONTINUING TO loot the country.

Our tax rupees pay for MR’s trips to visit dictators in Uganda. Why is the stinking Rani-Sira Ayahapalanaya govt providing impunity and immunity for the Jarapassa family of thieves?

Why are the Moda masses of the Miracle of Modayas silent on this?!

Majority of SLFP and UNP and SLMC politicians in the Diayawenna parliament are corrupt and collaborate to loot the people of Lanka. Today the main struggle is between corrupt politicians and the long suffering masses.

When the Sinhala youth formed the JVP in 1971 and rebelled against the government using armed violence, then Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranayake defeated them by using the military. Again when the Sinhala youth rebelled against the government using armed violence, then President Ranasinghe Premadasa defeated them in 1989 by using the military. When the Tamil youth formed the LTTE and rebelled against the government using armed violence, then President Mahinda Rajapakshe defeated them in 2009 by using the military.

Usually countries celebrate war victories when they defeat another country. Here the government had a war with its own people, the citizens of the same country and defeated them in 1971, 1989 and 2009. Did Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranayake or President Ranasinghe Premadasa have military parades to celebrate victories? Why ONLY Mahinda Rajapakshe wants to celebrate and why ONLY victory against Tamil youth?

Prabakaran, KP, Bala etc. were anything but in the category of youth…they were senior adults who just used the Tamil youth to fight their selfish battle by brainwashing them to die for a dream cause that’s never gonna happen i.e. separate state. If they wanted peace and save the Tamil youth they had enough and more opportunities to come to the discussion table, but decided not to because they would anyway got killed by their own people. Let’s not even go there my friend…

However, given the time for reconciliation and forgiving and moving on, this so called victory day should be reviewed and probably renamed as a Remembrance day so that even the Tamil population can mourn those who fought and were forced to fight and lost their lives in the process.

            Your first para,

Don’t forget VP the psychopath was a very useful idiot to Premadasa and Mahinda.

“probably renamed as a Remembrance day so that even the Tamil population can mourn those who fought and were forced to fight and lost their lives in the process. “

Can’t the Tamils remember their kith and kin who were mercilessly killed by indiscriminate bombing and shelling?

Obviously, from the replies you have posted to me and to others here, you are what your name is…veddah…stuck in the jungle…in this case stuck in “negativity and dark ages” and not looking to see the light in any form.

Get out of it man, nobody can change the past or turn back the clock. Move on and move forward… you just might be a happier person!

Isn’t it the past you were concerned about.

I do agree with your second Para.

By the way I am the most cautiously optimistic person who frequently surf this forum. I am much happier person than HLD M, IH Dharshinie, sach, Nuisance, somaass, Rajeewa Jayaweera, Jimy the dimwit, Country Farce, ….. and their fellow travelers.

You should often visit this forum to learn a thing or two. By the way reconciliation doesn’t come cheap. First you need to find the truth then there are other steps to follow.

Just keep Mahinda Rajapaksa at Uganda. He is very comfortable there. If not, ask him to fish in the vast Hindian Ocean, and export the fish to EU.

Just invite Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka, the Real Hero.

Mahinda is a born curse to this nation.

He has no hearts but abuse it further and further.

He himself being unable to maange the finance, did all harm to the staatkasse (state funds).
Today all prima facie evidence are there, rulers have no options than keeping quiet to save consesual politics. Mr Sirisena is doing a great job being caught by all these devils. He is simple so as RW. They both would never abuse funds for their SATISFACTION.

So disgrace, ask you guys that further support mr medamulana, what he brought from Uganda for you…. ? Nothing 0.45Million of rupess were just put into water since the bugger thought he should go and take part. President OBAMA or other leaders never turned up. only bunch of idiots that hold birds of feather joined.

The Govt. is doing the right thing. It was not a war fought between
the Singhalese and the Tamils as two separate nations and the govt. forces defeated only an armed terrorist organization created by the disgruntled Tamil youths, a section of the Tamil population, like what JVP youths did in the 80s and they are in main stream politics, today. America & India smashed many such organizations and they did not celebrate the victory by having military parades, every time they destroyed an armed org. Even the killing of Bin Laden, the much dreaded terrorist, the American Govt.welcomed the news but did not get the armed
forces to parade to gain political millage.

Paying respect to the dead on both sides should always be allowed as
both religions Buddhism & Hinduism allow that for the good and the
bad and it should be done religiously by offering prayers but not by show of force. Having victory marches by military after the war ended seven years back is like opening wounds of hatred among the major communities and are we going to add fuel to the fire every year by having victory marches while the second largest community, who suffered largely during and after the war ended, mourns over the loss of their loved ones in the war.Is this good for the country and the people.? Of course the majority too suffered heavy losses by way of loss of young lives and property and armed rebellion by Ltte should be condemned by all right thinking people, but show of force by having victory marches by the armed forces is clearly not the answer and who created Ltte is another big subject.

Anyone with an iota of brain knows who the Commander in Chief when the was finally came to an end, and who absorbed all the pressure from the West to stop the war that would have allowed LTTE top brass to escape. Yes, MR did nothing. Sorry that our soldiers crushed your pets and allowed your children to freely go to school and study. Sorry mate.

Punchinileme: You are perfectly correct. MR and the rest of his goons who call themselves a “Joint Opposition” have managed to give that impression to the world that he still is in CONTROL. Today Gammanpila said that the invitation from Uganda was “Official” and in a way they have very successfully engineered the claim by getting the Government to pay for MR’s travel. Prior to this, they also managed to get some sort of “recognition” from the Speaker and the PM for this operation called the “Joint Opposition”. That happened, because the Official Opposition and the Leader of the Opposition kept very silent on the issue. He should feel ashamed of himself for neglecting his role as the Leader of the Opposition. We saw how even the PM summoned the Media Secretary to his official residence and reprimanded him on that press release reference to “Joint Opposition”. That is how this GANG of the “Joint Opposition” behave and do things to disrupt the Government affairs. That is what happens when the “Deal Makers” are running the Government. Every thing now is a COMEDY and the CLOWNS on both sides are having a field day while the people are watching in agony.

    There was no war.

There was only the putting down of an uprising by a group of our own people, a group who had every good reason to resort to arms to fight injustice, marginalisation and murder and mayhem.

How can anyone celebrate such a disastrous chain of events. Who were the enemy of who?

Without addressing the root cause of the whole debacle we are going on the wrong path as we have done time and again.

This should be a time of soul searching, reflection and reconciliation. Definitely not celebration.

There is nothing to celebrate on 18th May witn all pomp and pagentry including cultural shows except to be in head bent silent prayer in remembrance of and repose for the dead.Remember in war there is neither a VICTOR nor a VANQUISHED. It has now given rise to claims by several parties as being the individual sole victors forgetting that it was corporate effort and not individualistic. These claimants have forgotten the after effects to be reaped not only now but also with regard to after-life events that betide them. Tne moron mara tribe is in the forefront of it accumulating additional KARMAs. The present “good governance”, if sanity prevails them, should hold no celebrations wasting the time , energy and money of the public exacerbating enmity discord and racial disharmony, silently glowing as hot embers under ash at present in our society.

It is very difficult to rescue a person drowning neck deep in mud. Rulers don’t think about the ruled when in power. MR failed to learn from mistakes made by Mrs. B and JR related to extending the term of office by two years in 1975 by Mrs.B and the infamous referendum by JR.. Having promised to abolish the Presidency it is a deplorable to abolish the restriction of two terms so that the incumbent could contest again any number of times. Purely personal greed. The MPs who voted for the amendment should feel ashamed. Mahinda is now paying for his sins. We are lucky that our electorate is more educated than our representatives. Anyway I don’t see any necessity for the Defense Secretary to issue instructions to the forces as the forces are not expected to attend private ceremonies organized by political parties.

Our Yahapalana Defence Sec, BB Karune is full of guts .. Isn’t he?

He even warns the Armed Forces not to commemorate their sacrifices and pay respect to their fallen comrades.

Because Karune says LTTE Tigers are Ape Minissu.( Our People ).

It was just an internal tiff among us.

Wonder whether BB Karune was in Norway , when his Appe Minissu were sent by Ape Miniha, Piraharan to kill Baby Monks, Grand Mums, School Kids and even lactating women in Aranthalawa, Somawathiya, Maha Bodhi, Temple of the Tooth, and even the Yahapalana PM’s Megapolis.

This order by the Defence Secretary to the army is proof that the army is ‘out of control’ of the elected government.
This is why, the passive ignoring attitude, to what the army does in the north and east and inability to correct same.

It was the Tamils’ votes which clinched the President’s and, this government’s victory.

Whatever regime rules the country, Tamils will have to be resigned to suffer repression.

I think the comparison of JVP insurrections with that of LTTE is wrong. JVP insurrections were purely indigenous exercises whereas LTTE was supported by our neighbour with a population of 1 billion for over 20 years (no doubt later they supported SL govt of the day) and by diaspora supported by the West with billions of dollars. Thus LTTE defeat is a defeat of the West and India and is an international scenario completely different from the JVP scenario. This doesn’t mean that we should go to town with LTTE defeat but we have to be mindful to respect and show our gratitude for those who brought peace to this country. Just put the clock back by 7 years and think for yourself. No doubt it is time to forgive and forget and move forward in true Buddhist spirit.

A very good decision by the Government. The Sri Lankan nation should not thrive on the defeat of the Tamil insurgency This will only prolong the tensions between the Sinhalese and the Tamils although Rajapaksa would want to thrive on the enmity between the Sinhalese people and the Tamils. Close the chapter for good and look forward to peace and prosperity. Bensen

BUT , Rajapaksa and his henchmen can be forced to stop their challenge with the power that has been given
