Government Is Incompetent, Cannot Run The Country: Chief Opposition Whip AKD

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his government came under heavy criticism for their shortsightedness and for continuing to burden the public with revised taxes. Chief Opposition Whip and Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared that with the revision of the Value Added Tax (VAT), the government has shown that it is not only incapable of preparing a budget, but is incompetent to run the country.

Speaking in Parliament last week, Dissanayake also noted that the manner in which the VAT was increased was improper. “The Prime Minister cannot just come to Parliament and announce that VAT is going to be increased from May 2. There is a procedure to follow. This government came into power promising democracy, but they are not even practicing that in Parliament,” he said.

Dissanayake said that it was obvious that the government was so short sighted that by December they did not realize that they will require additional income. “They got a two third majority for the national budget, and now they just make announcements and incorporate VAT revisions, as and when they please. No one approved this VAT revision. This should immediately be stopped and taken up for debate,” he said.

Dissanayake said that Wickremesinghe does not have the authority to come to Parliament and announce tax revisions according to his whims and fancies.

“The government is so incapable – they can’t even prepare a proper budget, by December they don’t know they will need taxes. They have proved they are incapable of running the country,” he said.

THis government can, and will stand up ONLY if they realise they are about to make a royal mess of things and possibly collapse eventually. They got some utterly clueless and incompetent people in critical positions – take the Port of Colombo for instance. What could it not have done, if an intelligent, educated person was handling it?

The port is the economic nerve centre. With their choice, the government has indicated they are a bunch of jolly yet empty rhetoric men, still out of step with reality.

Every day delayed is another nail in their own coffin. I believe the Prime Minister will have had enough experience to know this.

Can we also have a minister of finance who knows his job? And can we have the assurance of zero tolerance on corruption ans nepotism? A minister appointing his own brother as chairman of a major undertaking under him, has no place in the modern Lanka RW is trying to build.

After dining in Dublin, poor bugger must be feeling shit about getting short changed by the UNP PM, batalanda Ranil.

Even Dublin Banks wouldn’t give VIP customer service for a lousy 10,000 Pounds.

His anger and depression must have reached breaking point, after Batalanala Ranil spent LKR 3000 Lakhs per set of wheels for him, and in fact bought two of them..

And allowed the good for nothing lout Minister to pocket LKR 15 Million per month by renting a property to a SLFP Yahapalana Faction Minister.

Then allowed the Field Marshall to pay USD 100,000 to rent a place as his office.

To top it all, the UNP Minister who destroyed this Prince’s political and moral fibre with just a few words, spent LRR 15 Mil just for the feed ( was it all you can eat Buffet or Sit Down ) on his son’s wedding.

I am surprised that the Prince can still stand straight in front of the mike.

May be he is hoping that Batalanda Ranil will say it was just a deposit and promise to make amends.

AKD realised that this Government is incompetent and are incapable of running the country only at this late stage. Most of us realised that with the first buy back of MARAs defeated criminal associates through the corrupt national list scheme and making them Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

Ah this thrice blessed country of Sinhala Buddhists – how incapable and corrupt we are.

This is the speech I referred to in my comment dated May 9th on the article titled “JVP Scoffs At Break Up”. Readers, please forget the past of JVP, but listen to the facts stated. Were there any one in the Parliament to disprove what he said. That is why I said the JVP is doing its best in the absence of the Official Opposition and those vagabonds who call themselves a “Joint Opposition”. Thank you CT for publishing this video clip. Thank you JVP and its Leader AKD for fulfilling your duty and accommodating the Peoples’ views.

It will only be a glorious fool who will condemn the JVP for its past. They are a fine set of young men and should have been in this government doing yeoman service to the country.

        Correction:

What I meant to say (and didn’t) was:

“It will only be a glorious fool who will condemn the JVP OF TODAY, citing its past”.

        The error is regretted.

Ok, now what? MR is corrupt, Ranil is incompetent, God knows what My3 does. Now what? People don’t trust JVP anymore. God Bless Sri Lanka.

      Shan

Let us assume in the next election JVP wins more than two third seats in the parliament.

What is the guarantee that AKD would not transform the country into a dictatorship of the proletariat, a one party state?

What is the guarantee that AKD won’t burn down the parliament, blame MR, enforce a state of emergency, suspend all civic freedoms, has complete control over the country, continues to oppress the masses, ……. ?

Hitler was supposed to be a successful orator. So is AKD, according to distant observers.

Don’t think JVP is the answer. Unfortunately, Sri Lankans are always left with selecting better of two evils.

    What is your Problem??
It would have been another round of poaching of crooks and criminals from the opposition to pass the VAT increase Motion in the Parliament!!
    That cannot happen!!

This is the only way ! The PM to appear at the Parliament and pass the Motion . It can only happen in our Apeh Aanduwe!!
    God save SL!!

What happened then during the last Regime ?
Had it been right and proper??

This is called democracy ! You can expose the mistakes of the government , we were not able open our mouths let alone writing to websites.

At least count your blessings you old chap that you’re not white Vanned.

In a way it appear as if the govt. cannot run the country. What is missing is sincerity in drafting and implementing plans to develop. What they are fighting for is duty free benefits and privileges, slices in the form of rents etc. Obviously cheating the masses. President and PM seem to lead the way. If cannot give the administration to those who can run the country other than the last regime.

JVP talks of crimes and corruption. We may try to forget the past when our relatives murdered, but I would like to know their position on violence that takes place in the campus in the name of ragging. JVP is silent on that. If what happens in the campus, happens outside the campus, JVPers would shout from roof top.
Why is JVP silent on this issue. According to statistics , owing to ragging , about 27000 students had abandoned their University studies , and about 20 students had paid with their lives .The number of students who became invalids , mentally ill and crippled are also countless.

Have you gone to Uni? Ragging is not done by JVP. I persionally know that most of anti JVP students do ragging.Dont talk about what you dont know.

The Philllipines has been unable to recover the over 10 billion dollars stolen by the Marcos’ during their 21 year dictatorship. Does AKD, in his seeming ignorance of the way the world really works, really think that Sri Lanka will ever be able to recover those stolen by Rajapassa?

Anyone interested in the mechanics of this should read this article in the Guardian:

AKD. .you realise that only now? Most of us realises it almost immediately after the illegal government came into power!

      words

“Most of us realises it almost immediately after the illegal government came into power!”

      You are right.

An illegal business deal with VP paved the way to an election win in 2005.

Most of us realised it almost immediately after the illegal president came to power.

What did you do to stop the clan’s ascendency to power?

It is not JVP, it should be you, people . use your brain when you elect your representitives. It is JVP’s fault that they are capable of educating peopole enough. But it is not easy to educate Sinhala Buddist idiotes.

Words, the reference is obviously to the election of 2005. The UNP won it my dear fellow, until the LEGAL MR went and gave him the santhosam.

NEVER in the history of ANY country has a President and his family been subjected to so much interrogation and accusations. NEVER.

It is really a shame. I feel sorry for my country.

Well presented facts. His speech needs a good response from the gov. Particularly Ranil.

    Will we get one?

C’mon Anura tell us what you did in Ireland. You got Ranil to pressurise Divaina board to get Manoj Aneydeera resigned” from the newspaper for exposing what you did in Ireland. Now after a month lapse you came running back to SL only to commence mud slinging at people you don’t like. At the same time just a pinch in the buttocks to Rani and the clan. Do you really believe people will vote you for power one day? It’s good to have a dream but should not be at the expense of others!
