It seems that some members of the Buddhist Clergy as well as the laity are against any other religon or adherents of any other religon living or practicing their religon in Sri Lanka. At present there is an organised movement to attack non-Buddhists in Sri Lanka.
There is an unofficial moratorium imposed by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, on the building or renovation of places of worship of other religons even when there is a genuine need of the people living in those areas. Officials of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and the area Police are interfering in the matters of other religons without any basis or authority. On the other hand the Govt is spending every taxpayers money to build temples and statues in various areas at state expense.
These extremist object to people gathering and praying on their own private property. It seems that people have no right to practice their own religon on their own property in this country. This is really strange because these monks do not take offence to gambling dens, brothels and pubs. They object to halal, women covering up, having large families etc whereas they do not object to promiscuity, nudity, indecent behaviour, foul language, pornography etc. It is questionable if these so called Buddhist Activist really have any understanding of their own religon? During the war many of them worked for GoSl forces very hard as spies, identifiers, with translation and interrogation in Tamil. They even lost their lives fighting and by revenge killings by Tigers.But today they are being harassed, intimidated and their properties vandalized by the state and state organized machinery. They have no support from Sinhalese or the Govt. and are left alone high and dry wondering about their future. They are now experiencing a little of the agonies Tamils suffered at the hands of this Government.Tamils are generally skeptical but TNA is trying to help them. SLMC is blinking without doing anything and it’s again the same politics of survival with no honest policy. They are left out in the cold and the Muslim ministers supporting the UPFA Govt is surprisingly quiet and doesn’t want to loose their perks or positions. Poor Muslims they trusted this regime and did bad things to their fellow Tamilians.
It was told that they were chased out from Jaffna by Tigers for doing spy work for the UPFA government against Tamils. They are minorities, speaks Tamil and should have stood with Tamils or they should not have taken a stand against Tamils or supported the regime. Now they are left out and harassed, branded as threat to Buddhism and Lanka. TNA should forget the past, forgive them and give all their support to Muslims in this time of need. GOSL is racist, barbaric and so is BBS, JHU. They are all destroying the nation with glee and success after success.

The provocative politics of BBS and its frontliners is unworthy of a religious-affiliated body coming from a religious tradition whose core is based on compassion and tolerance. Burqah. A controversy was created recently in the Moratuwa University, where some Muslim women students insisted on the dress that covers their entire face – and usually in black. Our Muslim friends must avoid creating the impression they are trying to be more Arab and Pakistani than what they are.
