Hirunika’s Aunt To Get Diplomatic Posting

The Sirisena-Wickremesinghe regime’s policy of helping friends and family appears to have spread to the Foreign Ministry with career diplomats being overlooked in favour of loyalists and their kin.

SwarnaSwarna Pushpa Kanthi Gunaratne, sister of Hirunika Premachandra‘s late father Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra is to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s consul in Los Angeles, USA.

Colombo Telegraph emailed the Foreign Ministry requesting confirmation of the report regarding the appointment, but the Ministry has not responded yet.

When Colombo Telegraph contacted Swarna Gunaratne yesterday, she said she is waiting for the confirmation. “I haven’t got the appointment letter yet” she said.

It is confirmed that Guarante has never held a diplomatic post before or has any career training or experience in the diplomatic service.

RE: Hirunika’s Aunt To Get Diplomatic Posting

So, they kill her brother, Arrest her niece, sand now give her a diplomatic post. Hope she is qualified, and they will not kill her as well.

Is this Sinhala “Buddhism” under Yahapalanaya?

    Just Curious.

We must not make an elephant out of an insect. Consul is not a big position that would need more QUALIFICATIONs than the candidate to have a broader knowledge about the country for which he or she is going to be appointed.
I know a guy who became known as a millionaer – in germany, he is also appointed as a srilanken consul. Having spoken with him on small issues such as duality applications, I felt myself, my gosh, man di dnot know even the basics about the issue.

At some point in time, people of this country must intervene and do so seriously. If a person is not qualified, he/she is not suitable. These are responsible positions that reflect on the nation as a whole and can make or break a nation. Such appointments can also utterly break the spirit of more qualified permanent staff who just give-up on their efforts. I remember many years ago, when I was working for the GOSL, I had to visit Washington where I met along with others a group of investors. Our “man in Washington” was such a dummy he hardly knew the subject and left me “red faced” in the presence of many Washington people in the business. It is time that the Civil Society raised serious objections with regard to diplomatic appointments as well as all other issues.

At some of them do not have any basic qualifications at all. … If politicians appoint civil servants at their will why do we need to have examinations? … political thugs have given diplomatic posts and statues without any basic qualifications.

This is bad. We in the Foreign service have worked so hard during the last year. Now such useless people are filling our positions. At least some of us had much recognition when the previous government was in power for the hard work we did.

How wrong you chaps are to suggest that the job offered is a highly paid diplomatic position. It’s an unpaid job as a consul is appointed to bat for Sri Lanka in Losangelese. This award is a voluntary position that is offered to people who generally have a good standerds in society and acts as a advocate for Sri Lanka in the absence of the Ambassador. How twisted you guys are to think that it is a political favour to appoint her to a non job.

Thank you Sir!. So is that your position that this government job properly selected and no better candidate was ignored? Are you telling there is no one other she, is in good standard in your society? Is that your position that no consul appointed by the Old Royals were not recalled by the New Roayls when recalled about 40 of in one batch?

You are telling to others that this angel woman, an aunt of an MP and a sister of an MP going to closed down her Calgary, Canada shop and rent a house in LA, CA and out her pocket will be doing propaganda for the Wild life Sanctuary Lankawe?

Swarna got a BSc & MSc degrees from top Universities in Canada and she did top jobs in Calgary. Lady ended up at Shell until she decided to quit her job and fight for justice for her brother. Swarna is not corrupt at all. They are financially well off. As usual Colombo Telegraph readers post things they don’t know.

        • 2
          0

She gave up the fight for her bother when her sister-in-law was offered a job as SLFP organizer. Is that right. Her niece stopped the fight after she was offered a candidacy in Western Province. She restated after Chandrika got her a candidacy in UNP. Is that right too?

Is that MSc or the BSc is providing her foreign relations qualification?

“She is well off” means that she is spending for the wellness of the The Wildlife Sanctuary, Lankawe or the on Wellness of the Foreign Ministry officials who allot the jobs?

        • 8
          0

As a long term Calgary resident myself, I can say that “Swarna” did not hold “top jobs” over there, ending at Shell.

That is irrelevant anyway because that does not prepare anyone for a diplomatic job of a two-bob, Third World country like Sri Lanka.

How did she try to get justice for her brother? We have never heard of any attempts. Premachandra’s murder was the result of two drug dealing underworld characters, both equally corrupt and thuggish. After his death, he is being made a saint at the expence of the other. His daughter with the same mentality won a UNP seat and now she is showing her colours.

A symptom of ‘unuth ekai, munuth ekai’ syndrome I have been witing to CT about.

Ranil/Sirisena came to power on the promise to the people that they will eradicate nepotism, corruption and political thuggery, which
were practised by the former regime openly with many billions of Dollars plundered from the treasury and political murders, intimi-
dation and rounding up of political opponents in white vans were rampant. So the people elected a new govt. who promised to keep their promises but within a matter of months, they started doing the identical
things, the past govt. did and did not care a damp about the promises they gave the people and got elected. The President started the rot by appointing his own brother as the chief of SLT and Ranil, the PM appointed his buddy Mr. Mahendran as Gov.of CB. Even though Mahendran
was not directly involved in the scam, the fact is that the govt. lost
over 500 million rupees by his mishandling and money does not grow on trees in SL. On a matter of principle ,PM Ranil should have removed him from the position and sent him home with a golden handshake, as Prez. himself requested him to do so, as it was an embarrassment to the govt. and banking industry as the financial institutions all over the world were watching the situation and the rot spread to the other ministries, unabated. Having a foreign ministry with qualified staff, why should the govt. go for outsiders to fill the vacancies for ambassadors, some of them are not even familiar with world geography. Take India as an example where not one outsider represents the Indian Govt.,overseas.Sure, some of the seniors in the govt. are aware of the actual situation in the country, today but they are helpless as power is vested in only few hands, like the previous regime. every action is identical and people see no change between the two govts, the past and the present.

It is obvious here that the present Govt.is well aware that the people
are now politically educated and able to reason out things and it looks
like they will be satisfied with one term (5 years)governing and PM Ranil will only be happy to be a parliamentarian, through out his political life ,either with the govt or with the opposition and this is his pass time. With such a situation in the country, it is anybody’s
guess as to who will form the next Govt. and one should not forget that there are 5 million voters solidly behind MR. It is a pity that the Prez & the PM did not set a good example from the beginning, by being clean in administration and put behind bars the people who were up to corruption ,nepotism and thuggery and if this happened (There is still time left to correct the situation), the people will have only two choices, to elect a future Govt.

What matters is, what kind of qualifications brings the candidate ?

If she does not have qualifications to meet the expectations for the representation of the country, people have to protest… since ballige puthas govt during the last few years, appointed every simple simons like tea tasters as diplomats and personnel to represent the nation to outside world.

Most joke was the man appointed to US embassay washington had not the least qualifications to be an Ambassador. Main qualification was him to be one of an another close relative of Mr Megalomanic Rajapakshe.

    • 6

Leelawathie – what matters is why deviate from the normal practice of
selecting the diplomats from the foreign ministry. They are given
adequate training as to how to deal with intrigue problems like
Trade, bilateral agreements and so on. Why should our diplomats
look fools, not knowing the subjects well, in the presence of other countries diplomats, while having diplomatic conferences and meetings.
Take India as an example as no outsiders are sent as diplomats to
represent their country and they are all selected from the foreign
ministry. They are all career diplomats.

This I see as gewohnheit – habbit of lankens in general. They should be taught basic things first before making plans to turn the country as a information hub/wonder in asia.

Most having just exchanged with them, I find even the graduates would say nothing but stay as if clay fed up crocodile once they notice any wrong doings are being practised. THis has gone for a long run. TOday, that has added ot their day today life.

As you know Germany s new eve ended up with problems in Colonge city – where women were brutally attacked by some criminal gangs- they were touched and even rape incidents were reported. Today, the news senders say, that the government will impose even more rigorous punishments that would go against the rights of the nation.
Can this be the case in SRILNAKA even if women or men would have been tortured ? NO, they have to fight years long to get passed a tiny amendments in the parliament. That is the reality. Uncilized folks filled srilanka will never raise it head until they the rulers will impose rigorous laws against wrong doers.
Right at the moment, nationlistic bitches sons spread nation deviding statments such as ” sinhale or balule” – this would never be accepted in any civlized world, – in a country left by 30 year civil war, this is beyond all ehtics and moral.
Gommanpila should be executed or brought behind bars for rest of his life to have created the kind of new problems to the nation that is trying to rise head after being lagged by a long driven civli war.

There was a man who was was HE Rajapakse’s first cousin was a shady tea trader. He was first made consul in LA where he lived because Consul position is usually honorary and given to someone with money and connections . Then made ambassador to USA! O levels. Tea taster became businessman. Moved to LA during the same time as Gota probably on lottery. Started a very successful tea export firm. Duped and cheated on many sri lankan Americans. Lived it up. Used limos at state expense. Borrowed money never returned. Totally unethical Matara sinhala buddhist. That’s reality.

You guys to have stayed mum at the time tea tasters was disgracing the nation is not pardonable.
There are lot s of srilanken americans in the STATES. They could go on protests asking that illiterate Jaliya Wikramasooriya to resign. If you guys did it, things could have ended up good for lanken diplomacy.

She is not a bad person but her being the SL envoy to the US is a joke. If srilanken diplomacy up there is related to OIL and Gas Accounting, the qualifications accordingy to my grand child ( who is just 10 years old) will be meeting with the requirements. But i really dont think that Srilankens up there – that are going to work in the canada will focus on oil related issues rather just diplomatic relationship between poor srilanka and canada.

Anyway, if an appointed medical doctor cant do the job properly without having the experience in the medical fieled, just any candidates even if they are graduates in other fields will not be suitable for diplomatic positions. Basta.

THe fact that this lady is Hirunika’s aunt is neither here nor there. The important thing is, will this lady do her job well? If she can perform better than the career diplomats, that would be a terrific bonus.

Qualifications of an Ambassador: Wonder what Swarna has?

Oh My God what has happened to Yahapalane in 1 year…?

She will be worse than Jaliya fellow. Looks like Sirisena is worse than Mahinda.
Sira has no clue how to run the affairs of the country. He wants to stuff the diplomatics post with his friends and yea sayers. Wonder what CBK & Ranil has to say about this appointment.

Francis de Laboulaye, French Ambassador to Brazil, Japan, and the United States

The first reaction of most professional diplomats, when they are asked about the criteria to be used in choosing ambassadors, is to describe their own qualifications. This is a very natural reaction, but if anything useful is to come from such an inquiry it is necessary to step back and look at the essential elements of the position of chief of mission, i.e., of ambassador. One simple definition of diplomacy is that it is the oral aspect of international relations. There is an essential difference between what is written and what is spoken, not only because spoken words are essentially more ephemeral (verba volant), but because the spoken language has infinitely more nuances, being both richer and more subtle than written texts.

    More here: http://www.ediplomat.com/nd/essays/delaboulaye.htm

Get a life people, jealousy, hatred, enviousness cant bring us nowhere. Jayawewa TO YOU Swarna. If many are against, just dont reject the position. That can help these malicious people for their inner peace.

Batalanada Ranil hand picked this beauty Hiru, to give Colombo Elite a good time, in Yahapalanaya of course..

But Hirunickers over did it, I guess by calling our local Mobile mini Papparazzi to cover the event.

When the shit hit the fan, the Elite and Batalanda himself disowned her and vanished to the thin air.

There were only Dalits at the High Court ( or is it Magistrate’s) to welcome Hiru after she got bail, and escort her to the White Van, because the Black Defender is still under lock up.

UNP ‘s real beauty with an impeccable breeding who lost the gig to Hiru will have the last laugh.

And may even get the old gig,if Batalanda pulls a few strings with our FM and get Hirunickers to join the aunt as an assistant to Consul .

Ny thing higher wouldn’t be feasible, because the FM wouldn’t want Hirunickers to front up to the Western Media scrums.

GL peris is a model SRILANKEN professor even if he earned higher degrees at the Oxford. In Germany or Uk if prof would react that way – could easily end up a social revolution. Since, professors in generla have a higher acceptable status in the entire world.

GL should have eaten lots of extrements during the high days of Meeharaka Rajapakshe.

If you disagree, why do the many over 49% among the vote eligible stay on licking Rajapakshe et al. Rajaakshes did all harm to the nation as no other leader happened to do. Even today, their cesspits are not sealed off. They are the buggers behind all these blood statements – they have to be executed to the very same manner the Irakis did it. Not giving any excuses.

But this is far better acceptable than the criteria picked up by Meeharaka Rajapakshe. Did you guys listen to any forums former Srilanken Ambassador to the US was invited as the chief /cheap guest ? I had the feeling the guy could not even comphrehend what was being discussed… many of the questions were responnded by KOHEDA YANNE MALLE POLLE – not even nearly meeting with the contents – why was this allowed for a period of 5 years ? It was just Kirimati gilapu Rajaapkshes had no knowledge in any fields. Here I may be wrong… they are expert in killing tactics and being life long rascal minded. No matter qualified ones could go unemployed, our man principle was above all- on the top of the agenda. More backlickers were appointed rather than the qualified. This is how they worked. Rememeber ? Surely not, srilankens in general are memory losers… ha ha . good luck to us so long these idiots take over the handling of srilanken future.

Yes, but these men who add their 2 cts against her are no better than those gullible stupid masses in the country.

I thought the lady has no qualifications at all – if she is a graduate, why not her to become a consul.

It looks everyone is same, who comes to power. In srilanka we cannot find any one to be genuine rulers. Pathetic situation is that 65% of the poor sector will have to continue their existence, the same way.

Not going through facts, please dont attack the current regime.

They have done a lot sofar. See, people thought Hirunika would not be arrested, what happened. they did it THOUGHT bit late.

Meeharaka led previous govt did not arrest anyone – even if Tangalle their familiy confidiante went on raping visiting tourists, Mahinda did not move an inch. Today, the man still dares to add his thoughts. Can you imagine ?

Sometimes knowledge about people & matters and quality experience is more important than degrees. We had ambassadors and consul generals who were not acquainted with current world affairs. Neither they were vocal enough to drive a point. We should appoint persons with a combination of education and soft skills who can project our country’s image in the foreign countries.
