How Did My Father’s Driver, ‘Raththaran’ Stack Up Billions In 10 Years?

By Achini Ediriweera

Achini Ediriweera

How did my father’s then driver, Raththaran aka Rohitha Abeygunawardhana, who came to my house in a push bike and won my father’s heart, manage to stack up billions in 10 years. Hope he was smart and made up papers like others do. But, this man I tell you, is a Disgrace!!

Being my driver isn’t the case, but the point is he fooled my father into thinking he is a good person. My father, who didn’t bring his wife or sons into politics, or give relatives any positions at his office or ministry, due to his principles, gave this man the opportunity. He told my father how much he loved to be in Politics, and how he admired my father’s views. My father appointed HIM instead of my older brother or mother! He made HIM the chairman of the Beruwala council! As the chief organiser for Beruwala/ Kaluthara District, he gave HIM the ticket for the next election at the provincial council, and my father told Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who refused to give him a chance at the parliamentary election, that “Here is my resignation letter, If you don’t give this man the chance in my district!.” Sadly my father didn’t see what Chandrika saw that moment! There are many who were present when this happened, who can prove this! My father then gave him the seat of Beruwala and said “it would be best if you took my seat, Beruwala, cause I have set this up for you now and made you here, and I will move to Agalawatte.”Rohitha

This was done by my beloved father, because he believed you don’t need to come from a rich background to be what you want! You don’t have to inherit the right to become a politician, you need to have only the “passion” and “hunger to serve the people” and he though a poor man would know BEST ! Like my father did when he came in as a 13 year old. Which minister today gets on a stage and say about his driver, “This is my son in politics” “I see you making your sons and wives a political career, but, This here is my son! Vote for him! I appoint him for you, my Beruwala people!”

His success was not something my father would ever be jealous of because that is what my father gave him, without giving even his own older son or his wife, like many others did! My oldest brother’s dear friend was already in the parliament back then, and today he is the secretary to the SLFP, whilst my father chose to stand by his principles. Prathipaththi, and trust that this Raththaran would never steal from the nation!

Today his entire generation is in politics, and made billions for his family, and disgraced my father.Rohitha

We don’t need politics to survive because we got a life beyond that. We are disgusted that he does everything that my father never dreamt he would do when handing him this life! Something no one today would do.

I will NEVER support this rouge or any rouge who steal from the innocent people of this country!

Falil Hajiar uncle (from Beruwala) he was your worker first, and you gave him to my dad because he said that he admired my dad, so he can be my dad’s driver. Then when my dad made these moves and got fooled by his talk, you warned my father, who thought naturally anyone would be jealous. I thank you for that, Today.

(praejudicium) “judgment in advance.” Where is the mannerism?

religion is no excuse because that is exactly where its happening world wide.

Is currently under investigation on several counts of fraud by the Bribery commission.

She knew he and his relatives were billionaire’s before this case.

“his entire generation is in politics, and made billions for his family, and disgraced my father.”

There are millionaire/billionaire lawyers who would clear him and its their profession? then what he is free man and may sue her for defamation.

To late now to be sorry.
Just hope for the best keeping a tight lip because any psychologist would not believe you at this moment.

Achini Ediriweera seems to jelous of Raththaran. How isit she couldn’t see Old King Swindling of $18 Billions? She is trying to question Raththaran’s swindling not even few Million $?

    @achiniediriweera Achini Ediriweera

During #CHOGM in #Perth. I could never ever forget you! You never forgot my father, you never forgot us. You were always a father figure to me advising me and directing me in the correct path to achieve my dreams. Thank you so much for always being there for us. I love you long time!!! I know dad is giving you the thumbs up all the way from heaven :’). You have truly and always remained the same person I always knew since I was a kid. It’s sad to hear what people who don’t even know you and your family say about you. As they say people will always talk all day anytime, any day anyways. #Ladies and #gentlemen I present to you, the one and only Hon. Mahinda Rajapakshe the Sri Lankan President. Still the people’s president in my eyes! The one and only Sri Lankan president who managed to end a deadly civil war that went through many decades tormenting many and stealing many lives. His stubborn and strong decisions lead to defeating the LTTE a horrifying terrorist organisation. We enjoyed defeating terrorism. Within a short period of time, after defeating terrorism he put forward many action plans to do what’s important after ending a war that robbed people of their livelihoods. He gave importance to rehabilitation and the reconciliation of the nation, postwar. He also gave an eye for the development of our country. It’s not an easy piece of cake to juggle with all being in such a position in a third world country however he did not fail to prioritise all. — CONTINUED SEE BELOW —

“Achini Ediriweera seems to be jealous of raththaran”

Yes of course, her statement suggests that and she seems to have a personal grudge with him.

Congratulations to your father for seeing the leadership qualities of his driver. The Nation suffers for his thinking capacity. Well done.

Your farther should be equally responsible for bringing these kinda goons in to politics. In that manner I do not see any difference between him and your father.

Good account if true. But I am not sure if her father also did any significant contribution to Sri Lanka. Sorry, I haven’t done much research on this but scarcely can remember her father as only “one of them.” The reason I say this is that most of the politicians’ children who do not succeed after the parents are in a dreamworld and expect us to believe that their parents were saints and great contributors to the nation. My foot!

    Achini,
What good is all these revelations?
There are much more evidence going begging at the modem but both the President and the Prime minister are quite contended to let it go past. So much so that, I hear the head of FCID and CID have threatened to resign if the political interference does not halt.

Hmmmm, I do not know what to make of this piece.

This is a little bit too personal. To publicly proclaim that the former cabinet minister was a mere servant – a driver is going beyond what is decent. I wonder if what was written by Achini and then to be published by CT does not comprise libel.

All politicians in Sri Lanka are dishonest. They are all fraudsters. That is a no brainer.

However to single out one politician, on a widely read publication, especially digging out a not so illustrious beginning, in a very class and creed demarcated country like Sri Lanka is in bad taste. Rohitha Abeygunawardhana may be a rogue, probably is, but that is a matter for the court to decide.

Thre are 225 of them right now stealing Rs, 20 Million a piece right now! MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa AmaNa MaRa, Dhushana MaRa, has trained them well.

      Reference:

      https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/the-floods-get-me-a-pencil/

“So 225 parliamentarians * 25m = Rs. 5,625M. So, the government has offered 2.66% of the LOST REVENUE only as floor relief.”

“Put another way, they gave THEMSELVES a Rs. 20m*225 = Rs. 4,500M cash bonus in April. Flood relief is 3.33% of that.”

“I’ll leave it to you to decide which section of hell you want to reserve for the Parliament.”

There are thousands of examples such as this in Sri Lankan society. I know purchasing clerks who are driving Mercedes Benz cars, trainee executives who have become overnight millionaires, Tea exporters who export nothing but have millionaire life styles. All people who have chosen to break or bend the law to their advantage.

One this that is very clear is that EVERYONE knows because it is obvious when you look at them and someday they will lose it all as there is JUSTICE in this world !

Only hard earned wealth, remains and can be enjoyed.

No offence to the daughter but I guess your dadday being a politician should have been more careful as to who he nominates and make a driver to head a place like Beruwela is hmmmmm not so good as he wont have the experience needed to do such a task

Also your talk of serving the people and all that is crap especially if it comes from a politician as we all know the best thing politician like to do is line their pockets!

It takes courage to make a public confession that your father made a mistake. We all do make mistakes but it is greater to acknowledge it than ignore it. Rohitha Abeygunawardene is one of many rogues that MR created. If Rohitha.A made 10 billion you can imagine how much MR and his entire family made. When you accuse them, you are then branded anti- nationalistic and a western conspiracy theories. How can robbing a country and its people be called nationalistic or an act of patriotism? It’s because I despise the MR clan for what they do because I love my country makes me patriotic. I wish MR’s sons had the courage to confess but they won’t. They don’t have the guts or the decency you have.

It’s upto the people now to decide and put thiesw rogues permanently out of commission.

At least this guy had a push bike to ride to your house, according to SF, Gota could not even afford that in the states and someone gave him a pushbike to get to work.
The point is see how rich Gota is? Sri Lanka is a land of miracles for politicians, their family and their goons.

Shortsighted politicians of our country have put us in this position. A good leader should have the ability to identify people. Similar to recruiting a wrong candidate in an interview for a job.

      Sushena Ranatunga

It’s a must for the people; the voters to be far sighted when electing representatives.

Stressing again, it’s not leaders but it’s you who have to be able to identify people.

It’s a well known fact that almost all our politicians are short-sighted and people should not raise their hands for anything prescribed by them.

Members as well as non members of the 2 main political parties should build pressure upon the leadership not to select candidates on their whim and fancy.

We don’t have the option to elect representatives. General public is scared even to display their name even in a paper article comment (like in your case) let alone getting involved in politics. Only option is to destroy the vote. I believe lot settle with that option.

Sri Lanka gold robber blessed with spiritual links
    Mar 25 2001 19:32 IST

COLOMBO, March 25 (AFP) – The son of a Sri Lankan government minister has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a post office, officials said Sunday.
Prabath Premaratne, the son of the deputy minister for the Buddhist affairs ministry Buddha Sasana, was arrested on Friday night together with one of the minister’s police bodyguards, officials said.
Minister Ediriweera Premaratne, a former monk, denied any involvement in the incident in central Colombo and said he was not responsible for the actions of his son.

Police said the son, who is a student at a college in Switzerland but is currently on holiday in Sri Lanka, was arrested while anti-narcotics agents were investigating a drugs smuggling operation.

“Our men were waiting to catch two people who were getting a postal package sent from abroad,” a police official said.

“As the two suspects were getting out of the post office with the package, another two robbed them at gun point,” the official added.

“That is when our men went into action. It later turned out the package had nearly four kilos of gold.”

Please do a quick Google search on “Ediriweera Premaratne” and you will know who Achini’s father is and how this bugger became “Raththaran” LOL

Mr.Jayasinghe you got your wire crossed “Raththran” is Alias name former Minister now M.P Rohitha Abeygunawardana not Achini father.Achini father was former monk turned marxist politician he was a close ally of former President Chandrika .I stand by her because when her father Mr.Ediriweera Premaratna was never a corrupt politician .Mr.Premaratna died prematurely after prolonged illness. His family even didn’t have vehicle my friend Mr.Chandana Amarasinghe a close ally of former minister G.L. Peiris offered his vehicle Isuzu Fargo for his funeral arrangement unfortunately I couldn’t attend funeral may be I was either overseas or I didn’t get the message funeral took place in low profile. As far above incident concerned it is about a son of Mr.Premaratna a spoiled brat I would say not about father. It was not fair to blame Mr.Premaratna who lived by his principals.

Typical of these scumbags who were close to the Rajapaksa hyena pack. These shits will sell their mother for a few rupees. It is comforting to know that decent human beings like Achini are prepared to say the truth and expose these skunks. The country has sunk to the lowest levels of corruption, moral bankruptcy and criminal impunity because of the greed and decadence of the most horrible and criminal regime that Sri Lanka has ever experienced in its long history. Dictators like Gadaffi and Saddam look saints when compared to the thug that was Rajapakse.

Achini….I salute you for your courage.
The reason for your father to insist Chandrika to give nomination to this rouge Rohitha chap is because he did a charm to your father.
I have a friend who lives close to this rouge’s palace in Ratmalana.
He told me that this guy is doing Manthra (charm ) very often.
He has set of “Kattadiyas” working for him regularly.
If you speak to residents of Ratmalana , they will confirm my findings.
I heard the Guy is doing many poojas and charms at his place these days hoping that Bribary commission and Judicial system can be tackled by his famous Charms.
Lets see…..if the guy gets bail then the charm has worked for the guy again…

Achini Ediriweera, your father is responsible for bringing a culprit to politics if he is convicted for corruption.

Your statement may be confession on behalf of your beloved father but it goes beyond that: you may be looking for a smart entry point for politics.

There might be more hidden intentions behind this statement.

Nobody should take anybody to politics as anybody can join politics without the help of somebody.

It’s a pleasure to know that Mr.Ediriweera had a daughter who has preferred to call a spade nothing but by its real name. I met him only once long ago where a memorable incident I witnessed and next I heard about him was after I migrated to far flung isle, NZ. In fact he had visited our residence but I missed him, a distant memory of almost 30 years.

Well, every syllable you have written speaks volumes to the unholy alliance of Rajapaksa the rogue had with all the scoundrels from the lowest depth of a clique of brigands who hadn’t had an iota of shame in plundering the coffers of the poorest segment of Sri Lankans.

This man Rohitha Abeygunawardena is just a sprat amongst the behemoths of the monstrous predator clan who have not even been touched so far by the so called Yahapaluwas who are worst than the Ali Baba and the countless number of brigands just sidelined, maybe for a breather.

Mark you, the day would not be far that they will re reign the country to its next real time banana republic.

When they are hand cuffed and taken away in the prison van they wave at the onlookers in reminiscent of a sight where popular freedom fighters are imprisoned. What a pathetic joke cast upon those who voted the present bunch of rogues to office.

Nevertheless, we are pleased to read a few lines from a progeny of a man who stood by his principles, a rare breed amongst political animals.
