Issuing statement a short while ago the US secretary of state said; “The Sri Lankan people deserve great credit on the successful conclusion of their elections. They turned out in great numbers to exercise their democratic rights and every vote was a victory for Sri Lanka.

“The United States applauds the Sri Lankan Elections Commissioner, the security forces, Sri Lankan civil society, and the candidates themselves for making sure this election was not marred by unrest and for ensuring a significant drop in campaign-related violence. It will be important for that effort to continue in the coming days.

“I commend President Rajapaksa for accepting the results of the election in the proud tradition of peaceful and orderly transfers of power in Sri Lanka. His words tonight about accepting the verdict of the people and moving forward are important.

“I look forward to working with President-elect Maithripala Sirisena as his new government works to implement its campaign platform of a Sri Lanka that is peaceful, inclusive, democratic, and prosperous.”

Hindian embarrassment at all cost was the calling.
`Goo`ta did the double after first threatening the US – `if you stop the training I have China and the Chinese confirmed instantaneously with an exchange.
The Submarine was the biggest catastrophe.- he may take exile at Tel Aviv as an american national. He has done it before at 7/11 but now with his wealth and no extradition treaties its hot spot for little lion –

The war would not have ended without him and that is what is bugging the Tamils, while not counting the devilish `hole in one` fatso Voodo Parayan more than the journalist who lost their lives limbs and family get together.

It was VP won the previous two elections for MR. He is no longer there to ensure MR’s victory.

What is the Hindian’s budget for this elections?

The dollar is getting stronger and oil is going to $40 a barrel.

While Lanka has a undervalued dollar favouring imports.

Now lets see how Cabral works this out before more loot is pulled out of the basement and siphoned across the seas.

Colonial folk aren’t the idealist Japanese Germans to break their backs to rise from ashes- it would easily take more than a generation of conscientious work to be one with the rest of the world which too is moving in positive directions like a sail.

Tissa T is an unlucky guy. The UNP never won so long he was in the Party – most as GenSec. The moment he joins MaRa, the so called “Strongman of Lankan politics” loses. Little doubt this guy’s political future will soon be behind him.

Maybe, but the question is who will take them?. No democratic society would accept a bunch of corrupted, ignorant thugs. Let them face reality, (Damma) where they were born. They were the most patriotic Sri Lankans existed for centuries so make them work with the rest of the population who wanted the ‘change’.

    Thank you Kerry/Obama.

The US and Britain most surely had a quiet word with Rajapaksa on the consequences of not stepping down.

@Palmsquirrell …..ya when they sent war ships to SL coast to save the LTTE Terrorist, and the pressure thank god MR did not listen and stood his ground.. Today we see the results a peaceful election where every part voted.. (unkie in Afganisthan).. And you think a word from UK and USA did it.. Fool Not everyone has a APE Like mentality when it comes to the west Like you.. This is a tradition we had since 1948..

The West played a crucial role in assisting GOSL in defeating LTTE. GOSL could never have done it without Western support.

Rajapaksa paid VP to prevent Tamils from voting so how are you crediting Rajapaksa with today’s voting by everyone. Rajapaksa also failed miserably to bribe and intimidate Tamils in the NP council elections.

Just as with the NP council elections, the West was watching Rajapaksa this time too .

I think the USA can take some notes from Sri Lanka on voter turnout. The USA has plenty of their own troubles to deal with right now in terms of curbing racially motiated violence. So let’s not assume anything, I believe Sri Lanka achieved this on their own too feet without the meddling of anyone else..let’s give credit where credit is due.

Couldn’t have turned out to be any better for our country, from the outcome of election results (narrowest margin of victory), the graceful acceptance of defeat by the incumbent and a swift swearing in ceremony to take over the reigns of leadership in a very much divided nation. A show piece for the rest of less democratic countries. Congrats is due to all who made it happen.

For the soothsayers and astrologers who are made kingpins in all decision making process it must be a bitter sweet pill to swallow when their predictions go awry. To depend on them to run the country is the most backward and foolish thing to befall this nation. In this instance, calling for elections two years earlier and falling a cropper is the hardest defeat to endure. When closely analysed all decisions made by MR since the racial riots of 15th June 2014, turned out to be wrong and misjudged, which eventually led to his own downfall within just 6 months following same. The voting patterns will further prove my point. Now is the time to heal the scars and unite the nation, and the newly elected leader MS, on whom we place great trust and hopes must not fail in fulfilling that part of his obligation.

Mabrook, Best Wishes and Jayawewa to all of Sri Lanka and its people. Lets enjoy a little kiribath and sweets for a while, whilst we take in the joy of this great victory for our new leader MS. We all wish to see him to succeed to see thru his 100 day program and still remain supreme, without carrying the weight of executive powers and administration burden.

to believe this is talking shop when Passa first announced his decision to conduct elections were taken at India and his brand of `The Hindu` journalist plus The Hindu backed think tanks at South Block were the first to receive the tweet.

Passa just embarrassed Hindia very dangerously with his China card submarines and Xi even snarled at Modi at Fiji.

BTW you would have heard of `waas kavi` like the `seth kavi` – both do the yakka dance like the pirith nool- beware of lemons on train seats of hindia.

Thank you Mr. John Kerry for the timely telephone call to MR – to avert a
3rd world war! Gota may have been admitted to Mulleriyawa Hospital by

Looks as if John Kerry is trying to take credit for the smooth transition of power. Far from the truth. The U.S. cannot be trusted, and beware Greeks bearing gifts! Rajapaksa left because he had no choice.

Now this poor MR is not usefull to either China or India or even to US. Politics is a dirty game- fools only get caught or die for politics. Now no one is with MR, nither tamils nore singhalese, proved again a modia. Now MR or Gotha can not go to EU or US – they both earned millions of enemies worldwide. People defending him in the past here with false names are not going to help. Now it is a waste of living in fear all the time. Dead sprites of tamils will not allow him to live piecefully.

What a pathetic piece from the US Secretary of State! The statement commending Mahinda Rajapakse for accepting the results of the Election implies that there was a fear or the possibility that he might not have done so. Even if there was that possibility, it is not something that you should be saying in an official statement issued by the US State department. I am sure the UK Foreign Office, whatever the reservations that the UK government has in regard to Mahinda Rajapakse, will have been so undiplomatic. But, then, the US knows no such sophistication; nor has Secretary of State, John Kerry shown great diplomatic skills.

When I first heard Mahinda Rajapakse had conceded defeat, I was flabbergasted, not because it wasn’t expected, but I was certain the Supreme Court, full of his cronies, would have found a clause in the Constitution for him to remain President for the two remaining years of his term. Also, with Gotabhaya with his Army cohorts would have engineered a coup, but I am so glad I was wrong in both cases. I give them credit for their gentlemanly exits.
