If Necessary Shoot, But Use Rubber Bullets And Aim Below The Knee: Mangala

Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera suggested to Cabinet today that if the planned protest by the Joint Opposition tomorrow (September 5) gets unruly and if there’s a threat of public property being damaged, the Police should not hesitate to shoot but they should use rubber bullets and aim below the knee.

Earlier IGP Pujith Jayasundara stated that necessary and not minimal force would be used to protect people and public property.

The Joint Opposition’s protest, ‘Janabalaya Kolambata’ (People’s Power to Colombo), will see thousands of people from all parts of the country coming to Colombo tomorrow, according to organizers. They have complained that the government, wary of a possible show of considerable force, has gone out of its way to make it difficult for the organizers to arrange transport.
