By destroying the public’s confidence, with a deceitful impeachment motion against the CJ launched for political reasons, the present regime has further demonstrated its true character; the creation of a free-for-all, everyone-for-himself economy—an economy in which the rich, powerful and organized can take advantage of the poor, unorganized and uneducated.
The need of the hour of the learned people is to discredit the government ethically and philosophically for all the anti-social wrongdoings being committed by it against its own people belongs all ethnic origins.
Who responsible for creating this anarchistic society? The midlevel figures, some of the thousands of ordinary people – all so-called professionals, state officials and so many others who helped create this crisis, often by calculating their own self-interest first. Their tales suggest that, while some of those caught up in the event were crooked or incompetent, many more were people who simply took a narrow view of their responsibilities in return for ill-gotten wealth.
Probably no one has ever witnessed anything like the collapse of morality and ethics in governance in this magnitude. The virus of crony capitalism seems to have infected with the all organs of government and the conduct of the former CJ Sarath Silva vividly demonstrates that not only the values of the executive and the legislature have diminished but noble standards enshrined by the judiciary too.
No one seems to know from where the clean up operations should commence. Lets hope that that at least now the government would understand the greater damage it inflicts to the image of the mother Lanka and restrain from causing any further damage and respect and honour the rule of law.
In the presence of absolutely incapable opposition, the excessive and unjust enrichment, incompetence and dishonesty of top politicians and their cronies can only be dealt with through a independent, forthright judiciary committed to uphold the role of the watchdog for the people and not through a judiciary consisting of timid and submissive judges who would only serve the corrupt Executive and its cronies. If there is any wrongdoing committed by any member of Apex Court, people do not condone such characters by any means, yet they naturally demand their removal only after due process of law that guarantee fair hearing free from any undue arbitrary decision-making by the executive.

A good solution and starting poit would be to prorogue parliment and form national unity government.
Revoke the 18A and abolish the Excecutive Presidiency. Restore the civic rights of General Fonseka.

The executive system should stay with clear separation of powers between the executive, legislature and the judiciary. What is at fault is the hybrid system we have, which has resulted not in hybrid vigour but with everything negative that comes out of inbreeding . The cabinet should not be selected from the parliament. There should be two chambers of elected representatives. We should adopt something akin to the American Constitution. A Constitution Commission of eminent persons should be appointed to recommend a new constitution. Our executive and parliament cannot be entrusted with this task, as they have miserably failed us twice. There should be public debate and discussion both during the sittings of this Commission and until it is approved by parliament, the Supreme Court and a referendum. The public should also be invited to make submissions and appear before this Commission.

Yes the constitution needs to be changed but cannot be done under the present setup. A National Unity Government can overlook this. Executive Presidiency may be retained with much reduced powers not in the current form.

The worst of the present day constitution cam with the 18th amendment. of Rajapakses’. If the 17th amendment was in existence, President would not be able to most of what he does now. So don’t always blame JRJ. Remember both Chandrika and Mahinda came to power pledging to change the whole constitution, but hood-winked the people. Instead Mahinda made it worst.

They both most importantly promised to abolish the Executive Presidency,but once they tasted the power bestowed by it,forgot their promise – “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
MR even gave the promise in writing to to JVP,but once he formed the government with the ‘cross-overs’,forgot about it.
Now,noone even mentions the Executive Presidency, which is at the root of all that is evil, in sri lanka.

Tourist Board (as per today’s ITN News) say only 30,000 Chinese Tourists came to Sri Lanka in 2012.
Could you please give me the Breakdown of the rest of the 970,000 tourists came from.
Their countries and the numbers will be helpful.
Also how much Sri Lanka earned from Tourism in 2012…..

Only a people’s revolution of the likes that took place in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and now taking place in Syria will be successful in kicking out the Rajapaksas’ and their cohorts. MR did not bring in an 18th amendment so that power could be handed over to someone else at the end of 12 years. All this talk about proroguing parliament and forming a national unity government is mere wishful thinking.

President should dissolve the Parliament and appoint a National Government which should have representatives from all parties, all religions (as JHU has Buddhist monks in the Parliament today and Muslim Congress is based on religious basis) and retired Judges and civilians. This National Government should decide on the impeachment of the CJ and changes required to the constitution of Sri Lanka. President Rajapakse who has won the war will then truly be a Hero. No family members of the President should be allowed to hold any position, but they can contest for Presidential election or the general election next time. This National Government should be in place for 5 years. The PM should of the National Government should be elected by a confidential vote by the members of the National Government. No party leader should be given a Ministerial position in the National Government as all of them have failed the people of Sri Lanka.

How come Basil selected a CHINESE WOMAN AS THE MILLIONTH TOURIST IN YEAR 2012 WHEN ONLY 30,000 Chinese tourists came to Sri Lanka (as per ITN news).
Then the rest of the 970,000 TOURISTS WOULD HAVE COME MAINLY FROM ENGLAND, WESTERN EUROPE, INDIA, USA, CANADA AND RUSSIA. BUT THE HIGHEST WOULD HAVE COME FROM ENGLAND. SO HOW COME A CHINESE BECAME A MILLIONTH TOURIST…..AND A POLISH BECAME THE 950,000 TOURIST. CAN ANYBODY GIVE THE BREAKDOWN OF THE COUNTRIES AND THE NUMBERS OF TOURISTS CAME FROM THOSE COUNTRIES IN 2012…..SO WE COULD COMPARE WHO AND WHICH COUNTRY.

Are not CBK, MARA and the hundred others that crossed over to form the criminal 2/3rd majority in the legislature all guilty of CBT (Criminal Breach of Trust)? I remember seeing a public servant named Kulasegaram’s photograph outside the Fort Police station notice board with a WANTED caption over his picture with a sum of money as a reward for capture as he was suspected to be absconding.
None of these above mentioned are absconding and are readily available to the police. Hence is there no place or institution such as ICJ and/or ICC where an eminent and respected group of SL Citizens Committee and/or some reps from the 4th estate seek like the CT seek redress as a test case to publicise their continued and repeated wrong doings for personal and familial aggrandisement under the garb of public service? At the least will it not try to expose them for what they truly are and try to dissuade voters from repeating their mistakes? Or is SL really a land of a permanent majority of deaf, dumb and blind fools longing to be screwed forever and ever Amen.
Is it not time that the CT and other well meaning parties to do something tangible be overtly and/or covertly without mere “chest beating” gorilla like responses or “unburdening their souls” and/or “pouring out their chests” to the this CT website as a psychiatric couch for those banished and e exiled journos and some apologists?!

If the President and the government does not want CJ then there is no power on earth to stop the impeachment process. Who is a CJ after all? If President can appoint a CJ then ipso facto it stands to reason he can get rid of a CJ too. Prabakaran once said that the Sinhalese people have very short memories. Have you ever come across a Tamil who publicly condemns the Tiger terrorists even if they had killed their own family members and fellow Tamils? Answer is no. Look at all the Singhala traitors and big mouthed Pundits who continuously attack our great leader Mahinda. It is the Singhalese way. These Singhalese traitors were very quiet when LTTE and JVP were killing the Singhalese. Now they have come out of the woodwork and abuse Mahinda and his government who saved the Country. The UNP were willing to handover one third of SriLanka to the Sun God Prabakaran and also were willing to make him the Chief Minister of the North and East. Why worry about an impeachment of a dodgy Chief Justice? She was appointed by Mahinda but she was found to be of questionable character. So what Mahinda could not tell before hand the CJ was going to be like that? He appointed CJ in good faith and why blame him for that. Once Mahinda leaves the Presidency the spineless UNP and the extremist JVP will ruin this country and the Tigers will be back and will take over the country. A coward like you with a partial and/or incomplete identity and/or assumed name does not deserve a response yet in the interests of others who read your S*** ask yourself as to what you did to be born a Singhalese Buddhist? Did you choose your father or mother, your birth name, your place of birth, the country of your birth, your race, the colour of your skin etc? You and almost 95 to 98% of us are all mere by-products of two sex starved humans sexual gratification.
What is there for you to be proud of to plead for special treatment over these chance accidents without any effort on your part? What have accomplished with your effort other than bleat like a sheep with the rest of the almost mindless greedy emotional Sinhala Buddhist masses or Muslims, Hindus or any other silly organised religious, commercial or political belief system without any effort at critical thinking or feeling?
Why do you greedily long for and seek advantages under facades of religion and politics for a more comfortable life style by the sheer accident of your birth wanting to be rewarded for belonging to a group of greater prolific copulators who restrict and control the other impoverished groups through family planning, wars and pogroms; when the day is not far off when the ruling elite will gobble you up as well unless you take timely action to rethink your priorities. That too only if you have that capacity though I doubt you having it in your genetic and/or mematics whilst others who read this may benefit, as fools will not learn from the either the wise or foolish whilst the wise will learn more and become wiser from both the fools and the wise.
