Investigations Of Cheques Cashed Close To Presidential Election 2015 Continue, Ranil Assures UNP

Prime Minister and leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the party’s parliamentary group at Temple Trees yesterday, said that the Police are continuing investigations into a large number of cheques in the run up to the 2015 Presidential Election.

Wickremesinghe was responding to a news item published in the Sunday Times on the 15th of July where it was claimed that investigations had stalled.

He explained that according to a complained lodged with the Police by one Disanayake Mudiyanselage Sarath Dissanayake, a total of Rs 1398 million had been obtained by cashing 82 cheques between December 1, 2014 and January 8, 2015. They money apparently had been given to various officials in the President’s office.

‘These include cheques issued by the “China Harbour company”. The special investigation unit of the Police has submitted relevant documents to the Attorney General’s office. Investigations continue under the supervision of Deputy Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda and have not stopped,’ Wickremesinghe said.

Wickremesinghe further said that the Central Bank had sent cheques from Standard Chartered Bank to the CID in 2015 for examination and that the CID is still conducting investigations.

‘There is evidence in some cases and evidence had not yet surfaced in others. Investigations have not stopped.’

Good old Communist China the beacon of hope for the global economy through massive Capital intensive infrastructural projects. Oh wait, scratch that record – shouldn’t that be neoliberal western countries – the beacon of hope to all through democracy and equal access’ yeah right; power and greed corrupts totally. It’s amusing that western (US) commentators trumpet the savior China in one breath as it consumes global resources on uneconomic, wasteful projects yet conveniently ignore the inconvenient truth. The rancid carcass smells more by the day but when will the rats leave the ship. Where once McCarthyism ruled now Charlatans Govern.

These investigations are of the same category as the investigation if Mahendran could be extradited back to SLK, i.e. FAKE NEWS & DECEPTIVE PROPAGANDA. Ranil needed the votes of those cheque recipients to save him from the recent No Confidence motion against the PM. Rogues of a kind, so what investigations!!!

Even in UK a small fry pays the price while the huge shark swims free:

“Rampant corruption during the former Rajapaksa-regime has rocked the British Parliament too and is threatening to undermine the government of Prime Minister Theresa May, according to foreign media reports.

A British MP is likely to lose his seat following revelations that he and his family accepted luxury holidays from the then government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to defend his dismal human rights record.

Legislator Ian Paisley Jr of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) allied with May’s Conservatives, was yesterday fighting to retain his seat in the House of Commons following an Standards Committee recommendation to suspended him till November.

JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament yesterday that the Rajapaksa administration had paid in excess of Rs.45 million to entertain the Paisley family in 2013 and demanded an investigation into who instigated the bribe. – Daily News”

“It was reported in the media in 2009 that a Conservative Party Lord was given undisclosed sums by the Sri Lanka government via a third party involving a Maldivian political contact. When inquiries were made with the parliament, Lord Nesby has disclosed his travel arrangements paid by the Sri Lanka government. But disclosure did not confirm any financial payments made to him by the government.

It was also reported that Sri Lanka government channelled the undisclosed sum through the former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Publication of this revelation was not contested by the former Maldivian President to this date.

On 8 January 2009, when Lord Nesby was in Sri Lanka, he praised the Sri Lanka government’s capability of liberating Kilinochchi causing zero casualties to the civilians when he met the President at the Temple Trees. Lord Nesby assured the President that he will campaign to curtail the activities of the LTTE in the UK.
