It is the People’s Opinion that Makes and Breaks Governments” – President

Nobody can win elections only by working for the country alone and it is the people’s opinion that makes and breaks governments” says President Maithripala Sirisena – (Daily FT 2nd April 2016)

Yours Sincerely,

Political scientist Harold Lasswell once noted, “The open interplay of opinion and policy is the distinguishing mark of popular rule.” “Public opinion plays a number of important roles in a representative democracy. Leaders can take public opinion into account when making laws and formulating policy. Public opinion can act as a check on leadership, as the members of the public can express their dissatisfaction with politicians who refuse to take their opinions into account and vote them out of office. Opinion polls provide a mechanism for succinctly presenting the views of the mass public to government leaders who are making decisions that will affect society. Leaders often monitor the public pulse when making policy decisions, especially when they face an election campaign.” – Harold D. Lasswell, Democracy through Public Opinion (Menasha, WI: George Banta Publishing Company, 1941), 15.

The President, the Prime Minister and Government are therefore best advised to assess public opinion on the “Delivery of the Promise of Democratic Transparent Good Governance over the last 15 months”.

In addition to a generic opinion on above, the government will benefit immensely by testing public opinion on the undernoted specific issues and actions;

5. The Central Bank Bond Issue Controversy purportedly involving the Governor of the Central Bank and a close family member

6. High level appointments to State Institutions and the Foreign Service, purportedly tainted by Nepotism

    Sri Hettiarachi,
    You are unhappy with the 13th item being listed as last.
    I’m not happy the 12th item is not the first if the list has an order of priority.
    Because smart patriot DJ and Associates had hatched a dangerous plan in a hotel in Talavathugoda to go along with Maithiri for 2 years to bring back MaRa regime after 2 years.
    By doing this, DJ & Associates want to hoodwink the international community and wants the status quo to remain so that minorities can be kept at their 2nd or 3rd class status. Also their plan is to make item 12 is not implemented at all.
    At the end of 2 years win the elections and then from an army government under GoRa.

    It is the amount of money poured in by the US, India, and other countries with vested interests in our elections that makes or breaks governments. People, social media, and whatever other surface solution has very little to do with it.

    It is that the minority votes decide the ruling party. But exceptions can be there where single party get big majority of parliamentary seats. In that too the minority votes may play a role. It is important for those who move the porn, to keep the minority sound and safe. Increase the percentage of the minority votes and population for a good impact. Keep them strong and safe . Protect their habitat, protect the younger generation, prevent their destruction. The surreptitious war against the minority girls and boys which continues at more speed now than before. Prevent the owners of vine shops, brothels and betting shops becoming MPs.
