Former Minister G. L. Peiris was grilled for over three hours by the CID over his recent comments that the suicide jacket along with other explosives found in Chavakachcheri was to be transported to Wellawatte.

Peiris was accompanied by Parliamentarians Wimal Weerawansa, Dinesh Gunawardena and Namal Rajapaksa to the CID.
Speaking to the media soon after giving his statement to the CID, Peiris said, “Even the Northern Province Governor, Reginald Cooray has said that he believes that President Maithripala Sirisena maybe the target, so what is more than that.”
Namal Rajapaksa, told the media that it has come to a point where even when people express their concern over the country’s national security, they are summoned to the CID. “This is yahapalanaya,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued today, defence secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi assured that he is fully committed and totally responsible to ensure the public’s security at all times.
“I cannot allow unwarranted publicity that will allow the general public to be driven to hysterical level of panic and fear which is unwarranted at this stage. On the other hand as a responsible defence secretary I have not diluted this particular incident to discourage our own defence experts from performing their legitimate duties,” he said.

I have a doubt; on this is that CID doing for it or you is doing for it for you. I don’t have the complete translation of GL’s interview. But GL has defended nobody, including him, by the above statement. First thing, I have not seen in English or Tamil news that where is the source of GL’s Wellawatte story. He has failed to kill the Yahapalanaya government in the interview and made it to feel ashamed just for harassing him. In contrast, when he came out he is telling even the NPG said similar thing. This is not a constitutional lawyer’s reply. Constitutional lawyers are gold in metals of lawyers. He failed to establish himself who he was in that interview. This happens in nursery schools only. When the teacher asks Tom why he pinched the girl who was next to him, Tom answers in a question that then, why didn’t the teacher ask Dick who pinched the Harry a day before yesterday. GL, as a lawyer, and further, it was a CID interrogation, first should have concentrated to answer fully the question that was in front him instead of turning into a Lankawe politician and looking for chance to put the blame on others. He has failed again to understand what the NPG said.
GL had said the explosives were to be brought to Wellawatte. NPG had said it was to use on New King. GL is claiming that NPG had said similar thing. It is not similar. NPG was, in fact, contradicting GL. He meant the explosives were to be taken to Vavuniya. That is where the New King was to visit. GL was implying that the entire country is back again in precarious situation. But NPG meant the New King ‘s travelling to North was the risky thing. He had said LTTE is not in operation in the North and the defense situation in North is not in jeopardy. How, then, GL is comparing his Wellawatte story to NPG’s story. GL said the explosives were to taken to Wellawatte. That was a statement to public. Now, he has not told the public how he had come to know of it. That was the core matter of CID’s inquiry. He has a duty to public to explain it as he started the story. NPG was concerned of the security of the New King who was about to visit North, though he failed to check the reality of the explosives story. He is a current official and involved in New Kings visit. He can be safe than sorry. No point in blaming him for that. But, when GL said it was consigned to Wellawatta, he did not mean even to gather some political support to Old King, let alone the concern of the security of the country, which is the Son Prince’s claim.
As usual you are confused and you are mixing up everything. You came here to defend GL. But as you too are in coma, you are not showing tendency to be interested in analyzing the real situation. Further as usual you put in your magic hat the words Vellala, Batalanda, Diaspora, LTTE and set fire. But, sadly no cats are flying out of that hat. What came out is your fault talk. Your magic wand predicted because Tamils are a friend of Ranil, the explosives were meant only to New King, so the GL is correct. You two are failing to understand that NPG is saying that were meant to use in North when New Kings visit takes place and it not to be transported to Wellawatta. You and GL wanted to spin the army story. But GL sound like backtracking in that story, you are now only trying to find out missing parts to spin it better. There are couples of young Tamil girls forced into army about three or four years ago. They were humiliated and few even were admitted to hospitals. But nobody was allowed to see them, including the, time minister Douglas. Same way, some boys who were in said to be in the LTTE was forcefully recruited into army. Before any inquiry took place Old King, Brother Prince, and Son Prince have commented as it was deterioration of the country’s security. This implies they know what is going to be the outcome of the inquiry. When the CEB’s transformers were blasted off, the foreign help was brought in to investigate. There were suspicions that it could be internal sabotage. The three have not given a chance for that turn in this story. Their comments completely denying a chance of it might have been an internal sabotage. This indicates that they have firsthand information on this. They are not interrogated so far. So, interrogating GL was only to humiliate him. Everybody does know the truth of his statement. Sunday Times says GLP was accompanied by Namal, Wimal and Dinesh. I can account for Namal – after all he is a lawyer (without delving into how he got the qualifications). What about the other two? If I were to be called by CID, would they allow me to be accompanied by similar characters.
GLP made the mistake of mentioning Wellawatta as the destination for jacket. If he really had any information, as a citizen it was his prime duty to assist the police, rather than shoot his mouth. What has he got to complain about when the police calls him. GLP brings discredit to his alma mater, Faculty of Law and cabinet portfolios he held by this behaviour.
Whenever a person associated with the former kleptocracy is called for questioning, Namal accompanies him and can be seen commenting to the media afterwards “this is yahaplanaya”, sarcastically. Interestingly a Police sergeant, with much less educational qualifications showed him the relevant legal provisions of the Criminal Code and thereafter he was questioned for more than three (3) hours. Whether you like it or not, he used to be an honest and brilliant academic until he turned to full time politics according several of his former students. He has published numerous papers while at Uni.
Politics corrupts, full time in politics corrupts completely.
I am still looking for answers as to why he started drifting from a brilliant academic to a MR b***s carrier. Please keep me posted if you know the answer.
