A complaint calling for an immediate probe into the recruitment of Rajapaksa ‘prince’ Yoshitha into Sri Lanka Navy, is due to be made today by the JVP.
JVP Western provincial Councillor Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa addressing the media yesterday had said they are urging the Defense Ministry to conduct a probe into the following aspects of Yoshitha’s recruitment to the Navy:
The process of his recruitment- How he was able to receive a scholarship to study at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, UK
- How he was declared the batch-top despite failing to successfully complete the academic course at the Dartmouth university
- His conduct whilst being a government servant upon being appointed as an officer of the Sri Lanka Navy
It is said that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s final act as the President was to relieve Yoshitha as an officer of the Navy.
Meanwhile, the JVP also urged the public to provide them with information regarding corruption and injustices committed by the Rajapaksa family, their henchmen as well as state officials during the Rajapaksa regime in order to conduct their own probe.

How about investigating the heir to the throne, Namal’s law degree? It would be good to know if he genuinely passed the bar exam or not. Also it would serve the Sri Lankan people well, to find out where their luxury fleet of cars are, and how they purchased it all. The new government does not have to purchase new cars, the fleet owned by the Rajapaksa’s would be sufficient to go around. They wasted our money, so better put it to good use.

Yoshitha effectively stole the scholarship from a young promising SLN cadet of that bach.
Rumour is that it was the bach top of that intake to SLN. From Rajarata area. He obviously had excellent performance, but not good enough connections.
If Yoshitha was a Gentleman with a backbone he would have refused to occupy that poor chap’s slot to study at Dartmouth Royal Navay College.

I would not trust the new “defence minister” on this issue. Ruwan is a product of political nepotism in this country as well. Just like Yoshitha. Ruwan is only there due to his family links. No other reason.

There is also doubts and gossips Re Namal passing the attorney at law examination conducted by the law college. There was some confusion about the manner the law college principals son passed the same examination a couple of years ago and we understand there was fraud in that as well and whilst the principal was removed from the law college and his son’s results were cancelled and barred from these examinations for a certain period. It is tge same principal who was attending to when Namal set for the exam.
There were news at that time that Namal was received by the Principal with betel leaf and was given a seperate room for doing the examination. It would be worthwhile immediate investment on this as well.

The Rajapakse wheeler dealer Sajin Vaas Gunawardena lived in a large house down Manthri Place off Park Road Colombo 05 for about 3 years. At the time the place was guarded by secret police. There is a big wall around the house .There were many cars parked there. The neighbours used say that Mahinda rajapakse used to come there late night to meet with lady friends. Now this place has a board saying Road Development authority. Please investigate who the owner is , what is the rent and what goes on there. I also wonder what part the Brits played in it. Surely they knew that Yoshitha was MARA’s son. Surely they knew that MARA was corrupt and should have declined to admit Yoshitha. Are the Brits complicit in the whole saga? Did they actively encourage putting Yoshitha forward as a candidate.
Did the naval officers still serving in the NAVY promote Yoshitha over others? They need to be dealt with.
Did high ranking career Naval officers with war experience feel comfortable having to kowtow to a brat called Yoshitha.
It is a good opportunity for so many unpalatable issues to be confronted, wrongs redressed and professionalism restored in all armed forces.
