The Eastern University Teachers Association (EUTA) while criticizing the delay on the part of the University Grants Commission and the Higher Education Ministry to take action against the illegal appointment of the Eastern University Vice Chancellor, has urged the authorities to take immediate action against the misappropriations committed by the VC during his tenure which is due to expire on February 12.

Issuing a statement on the issue, the EUTA President Dr. T Jayasingam and Secretary Dr. KE Karunakaran have pointed out that although the main slogan of the President during his campaign was to establish good governance, the government’s delayed action against academic fraud and politicized appointments is disheartening.
They have pointed out that the appointment of the EU VC Dr. K Kobindarajah despite being a Canadian citizen and an official who was under vacation of post should have been probed into immediately.
“His application should have been rejected during the selection process. But instead it was accepted by the Registrar and the competent authority of the EU at the time. Thereafter the former Higher Education Minister SB Dissanayake called for the Council to vote for him although the majority of council members had not even seen him before,” he said.
Earlier the EUTA compiled a document of 160 pages on the malpractices of the VC and of the irregularities of his recruitment process which was submitted to the UGC and the Higher Education Ministry but until this day no action has been taken on the matter.
The academics have pointed out that the UGC needs to be reviewed for its inefficiency, the politicization and for their ignorance of the issues because when the Registrar checked with the UGC whether a foreign citizen can apply,she had replied with a yes.
The academics of the Eastern University have therefore urged the relevant authorities to strip the VC of the position as an illegal appointment and to probe into his malpractices and abuses of power before he leaves the country after his term expires in a few weeks and hold him accountable for the actions.

However a few members of the academics (Use lees fellow – not teaching the students, no proper academic qualification & research) continuously damaging the University and tarnishing the good name of the University. Kobi got the appointment for the Director/computer unit, EUSL: Kobi sent the letter to Karuna stating that “if LTTE wants to give respect to his late LTTE brother,the post must be given to me”. Now he is blamming that others appointment by the influence of the LTTE. Is it shameless…???
He can do whatever he wants….He personally made revenge against the academic staff by the power of VC. The worst one….he sent two academic staff to Welikanda Army camp indicating that those trying to develop problems at the campus and those are against the government. The two staff went there and explained every things. The army personal asked sorry and told them the VC made false information.
As per indicated by the TAEU, the list is short. But the actual list is very long, when goes deep.He played major role to separate the trinco campus from the EUSL, by the instruction of SP Dissanayakae and LRB Dissanayakae). But then he went to TNA members and stated “some people from the campus try to separate the trinco campus from EUSL” (to get political support from TNA).
EUSL is one of the few universities that develop Medical Education at the Faculty of Healthcare Sciences. It was developed by former Chancellor Prof Varagunam and the Deans and staff of that time. The curriculum was developed in such a way to meet the foreign expectations. Gobi came and simply said that department of medical education is useless and trying to close the department. Is the way a VC doing?
He has many financial misuses, administrative failures and sexual harassment. It is a violation in the public system. The latest financial fraud is that VC forcefully imposed to fix the CCTV cameras in one block of the EUSL with the opposition of the staff. He spent 35 million for 10 cameras. Last week he removed all the CCTV cameras. Who bear the coasts? But at the same time students are suffering without proper equipment and facilities to meet daily studies.
Now student are on the road to remove the corrupted VC. Staff also agitated against his behaviour. No more alternatives. He should be interdicted fro his post and a inquiry commission need to be formed against him, before he escaped to Canada.

Present VC/EUSL Kiddnan alias “Komat kovi” you know why? When he entered to uni he did not know how to use the comet and he tried to use the comet as Squat pan then he felt down and he was injured severely and we admitted him at the Batticaloa hospital that why still he couldn’t walk straight. Why I am writing this ? Now he forgot all these and reacts like a white man.
Results :
He got only pass marks then he threatened the Head/Mathematics through his own LTTE brother called Tharan to get 1st class but they refused. After that at the gunpoint they gave the 2nd Upper to him.
Appointment :
Actually selection board selected two Johnpillai brothers to the mathematics department. He threatened the VC Prof Santhanam via his own LTTE brother focusing his “cast” and got the permanent appointment.
Scholarship to South Africa :
Initially Scholarships were given to two Johnpillai brothers by VC Prof GF Rajendram. He threatened VC by LTTE focusing the religion and he got the scholarship
Post :
He had only one post ie acting director CICT. Interview panel including Prof Mookiah, Dr Tharmavasan, Mr SS Manoharan rejected him because of the poor performance at the interview (still we can clarify). Then he threatened VC Prof Mookiah and got that Actg. director post by LTTE using his late LTTE brother’s name.
Other activities :
When LTTE was divided by Karuna, Kovi used some eastern LTTE cadres and chased his own teachers Prof R Vickneswaran and Prof JCN Rajendra to remove the hurdles to have the head and Dean post. Because of that he escaped from Sri Lanka when suddenly Karuna went from Batticaloa to Colombo.
