Lasantha Murder: Sri Lanka’s Commitment To Law And Order Under Watch

The Criminal Investigation Departments revelations to Mt Lavinia Courts in connection with the assault, torture and kidnapping of Keith Noyahr and the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge has stirred a hornets nest internationally. Many donor nations and others with whom Sri Lanka has Trade agreements, Human as well as other rights are keenly observing the outcome of the above mentioned investigations.

Lasantha

President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe have no or little option but to let the Criminal Investigations Department continue the investigations unfettered. Sri Lanka’s image and commitment to respect Law and Order will be tested on the outcome of these investigations.

The inquiries conducted thus far and reported to Court show a clear direction coupled with a definite line of command. Inquiries also reveal clearly, the perpetrators who carried out these crimes did not know the victims. Reports to Court reveal that the Rajapaksa regime including Gotabaya Rajapaksa had six years from 2008 to conclude these inquiries. They did not for obvious reasons.

The evidence before Court must necessarily end with charges being framed against the suspects not withstanding how high up the ladder it may lead. Sri Lanka’s commitment to Law and Order and her International image depends on it. The killing of ACF employees did not go away and the Nation was considered a pariah State until the Government changed in 2005.

No State is Independent any more. They are all Interdependent. (By Suranimala Umagiliya)

Now some attack this innocient man to have been killed by Gotabaya.

And Gotabaya has louded it not once several dozens of time, that Sarath Fonseka should have killed him.

Latter is not acceptable since Sarath Fonseka as we know is well disiplined- honest person.

But Gotabaya s honesty is smilar to that of a prisoner in Guantanmbe Prison.

To my knowledge there had been one Sunil – from Wanathamulla who narrow escaped from getting killed by Gotabaya KILLING WHITE VANNING squads.

This particular man in Wanathamulla will reveal a lot. And there are lot more examples to prove the killing tactics of Gotabaya and his former men.

RE; Lasantha Murder: Sri Lanka’s Commitment To Law And Order Under Watch

Who is a hero? Who is a murderer? Who is a killer?

      Sri Lanka: Abduction Island
Once a weapon of war, abductions are still happening in Sri Lanka. Is there justice for the nation’s disappeared?

      https://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/101east/2018/05/sri-lanka-abduction-island-180510041107399.html

Sri Lanka has used abductions as a way to instill fear since the days of civil war. In the last three decades, 60,000 people have gone missing. Many families continue to protest every day under makeshift tents in towns across the country’s north.

They hold vigils in the hope of getting justice and answers on their missing loved one’s whereabouts. The conflict is now over, but critics say authorities are still kidnapping citizens who speak out.

Kulasegaram Geetharhanan, a UK lawyer, represents 52 Tamil asylum seekers in London who say they fear for their lives under the current regime. One of his clients, Milton Thusanathan, says he has been abducted twice since 2016.

“They’d lay me on the ground and beat my back and feet. They’d burn cigarettes on my back and thighs. They used a bottle to sexually abuse me,” he says. Now, the Sri Lankan government is opening up an Office of Missing Persons to investigate and give reparations to those affected.

But families of the disappeared are sceptical. The government has held several similar commissions in the past, but all have failed to address the issue. Can this new commission finally bring answers to the families left behind? On this episode, 101 East investigates Sri Lanka’s enforced disappearances.

I believe, with the lowlevel COURT investigations in the country,
I dont think anything serving the justice would be fullfilled in this country.

We are no tamils or muslims, we the sinhalayas considering as SRILAKENS ourselves the majority of this country are fed up lanken court investigation and their indifferent nature.

And we are also fed up of MEDIA mafia run by Derana, Hiru and Sirasa.

We perfectly know there are political figures behind printed and elec media of this country. They work for agendas.
Rajapakshes are covered Ranil and OTHERS are attacked.
But TRUTHS will come to surface sooner than later.

We also want ABUSIVE journos of various nature to be subjected to moral and ethical codes.
They should not be allowed to keep the people in darker.

Didn’t this New King these days is crying through his nose that if he had lost, they would have killed him. If that is true, and in fact if he knows of such sure about the criminals, why didn’t he punish them so far? In addition to that, Ranil had told in Parliament that he knows who (meaning Old Royals) killed Kathirgamar. Earlier they attempted to kill Ponny for standing against them in election. Isn’t it he protecting them by blocking Ponny becoming as LaO Minister. Even Hirunika said her life will be in jeopardy. Rajitha, Mangala, Chandrika all are saying the same thing. But in reality only one person working Old Brother Prince coming back to power is New King. Thero De Silva has now changed his stand; he said it is Old King will be deciding who will stand for EP (meaning not Old Brother Prince). Even Prince Brother, Old King has said that it is he has to decide who (only Son Prince) can stand for election.

It is the western world and india that provided sold weapons, provided money and even now provide reisdence to those LTTE brigadiers and fund raisers. Now you Evengelists who get help from those countries want ones those who did what everf to be prosecuted.

Evidence shows that 2020 PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL – GoTa ordered and supervised most of the killings during his brother MaRa’s regime. GoTa is worse than Bokassa of the Central African Empire. GoTa directly or indirectly killed over 50,000 innocent civilians including journalists, school children, political opponents. GoTa has perfected the art of killing and hiding evidence.- and is not second to Bokassa who was notorious for canibalism. Matale Mass Grave, Welikada prission massacre, Rathupaswala massacre, disappearance or killing of over 80 journalists demonstrate the unquenchable thirst for blood of this murderous man called GoTa – the uneducated moron and the well known Gas Station assistant in US. Who wants this known murderer to be the President of Sri Lanka?

      6

Maharage man don’t talk nonsense, the Mathale grave is from a time even before Gota’s father was born, and while we are talking about mass murders what about the JVP killings and the government killings in 88-90 who is going to investigate those? And you keep yapping about working in a gas station..just read up man most successful people in US had at one point worked at minimum wage, even India’s Modi was a tea boy at one point.

“the Mathale grave is from a time even before Gota’s father was born,”

Dr Gota sent the remains to China so said many media reports, some said skeletons were sent to Smithsonian Institution in the USA.
Do we know what is in the final reports?

Yeah, yeah yeah, we know what did happen between 1987 and 1990. Do we know anything about April 1971 or 30 years to 2015?

Aren’t you being a selective grave digger trying to bury truth of what had happened in 1971 and between 2005 and 2015?

“And you keep yapping about working in a gas station..just read up man most successful people in US had at one point worked at minimum wage, even India’s Modi was a tea boy at one point.”

According to my Elder Gota was employed by a firm which dealt in IT. My Elder has no idea whether he worked for 7 to 11 or Petrol bunk. He well could have. It is not the issue. The issue is during his life time he has caused murders, mass as well as individuals. Why are you trying very hard to deny, defend, distract and bury truth?

Here is some news for you:
        Read, contemplate, then deny:

HUMAN SKELETAL REMAINS FOUND AT THE DISRICTGENERAL HOSPITAL PREMISES INMATALE
        The Report on Forensic Archaeology
        Prof Raj Somadeva

        Excerpt:

        Page 46 – 47

        Conclusion
In the above discussion, an attempt has been made to synthesis empirical data collected from a study of the burial ditch and its surroundings to present a possible interpretation of the time and the space of the inhumation. The nature of the burial event is straight forward as suggested by the forensic investigations in both the anthropological and archaeological perspectives. The relative time periods that have been proposed were accorded stylistic comparison with the artifacts as well as the data pertaining to their depositional micro-environments.

As suggested by the dates of the manufacture of artifacts, this inhumation has been carried out at a time not earlier than the year 1986 and not later than the year 1990. Here I have used the concept of ‘chronological sandwich’ (Renfrew et al 1991) to frame the burial event within two temporal polar ends viz. the earliest date of manufacture of the artifacts found and the latest possible date of their abandonment.

It has to be mentioned here that the artifacts used in this case to assume the relative age of the inhumation have been recovered mainly from the two garbage pits that are spatially associated with the burial ditch.

Apart from outlining this time bracket, it is difficult to make any further resolution to assign that event to any particular year within this range and to fulfill such a requirement; it is necessary to obtain a couple of absolute dates to the samples collected from the burial as indicated in section 10 above.

HUMAN SKELETAL REMAINS FOUND AT THE DISRICTGENERAL HOSPITAL PREMISES INMATALE

        Excerpt:

        Page 46 – 47

        Conclusion
The modus operendi of the entire burial shown by the arrangement of individual skeletons suggests that it is not compatible with the accepted cultural norms of treating the dead by any ethnic or religious group living in the country. Some of the physical deformations visible on the skeletons (see Jayasena 2013) advocate that such were results of neither a natural
disaster nor an epidemic. They were forcibly induced and non-reflexive.

Finally, I would say that there is no physical evidence that remains in the burial ditch I have investigated to formulate a complete narrative about the agency and the motives of the inhumation. But, thinking beyond my professional horizons, I am personally inclined to feel that, in this case, by whom so ever for whatever reason there has been an infringement of the fundamental right of 154 individuals to demise themselves on their freedom of will.

Why make so much fuss about a traitor. Now nobody talk about thousands and thousands of civilians massacred by LTTE. It looks like the life of this guy is worth more than those thousands massacred by LTTE to those keen on slinging mud on Gotabhaya. Those murderers are running around free in Sri Lanka and in western countries.

    • 2
      0

It looks like the life of this guy is worth more than those thousands massacred by LTTE to those keen on slinging mud on Gotabhaya.
      Hawk Eye,
It appears you missed many a substantial amount to material in CT. They cannot be repeated but let me give you the essence of it.
“Yahapalanaya could not win Sinhala votes enough to come to power. They needed Tamils’ votes. In that process they needed Sampanthar and Sumanthiran to scoop North East Tamils’ votes. For that they needed the West. So they told to the West : ‘If the TNA support Us (Yahapalanaya), then we will sign UNHRC resolution 30/1’. It all happened and now they are in power, by winning the election with Tamils’ support. Then, as like it was from 1958, they want to say to the West that they did not sign Resolution 30/1. Unfortunately, it is not that easy. Whether Yahapalanaya say it or not, the West may like to return to its position of Old Royal’ end time. i.e. They want to drag Appe Aanduwa to ICC. To avoid this, Ranil came out with two part one marvelous idea. That is (acting like) implementing all what is in resolution 30/1 without implementing anything. 1). Instead of devolving power with Tamils, he would go for secret solution, but Sampanthar has to keep it secret and should not let Sinhalese know it. Sampanthar agreed for Secret Solution. Secret Solution took a long walk went up to parliament’s door, knocked on it, but immediately collapsed, fell down and died. Now they don’t have to talk about secret Solution because there is no 2/3 with Government. Having that hurdles cleared, Ranil is focusing on the other part. 2). Prosecuting 42 OISL war criminals, who committed 150,000 murders in five months, but not in regard for war crimes .

    • 1
      0

They brought in two or three high profile cases against Brother Prince, instead of the 42 listed. They took in accomplishes to consult & train them that they can deny at the court that nothing had happened. You may remember how they dealt with Ravi Raj Murderers. Now the Consulting & training job is done. But if West (or UNHRC) go on its way to deal with war criminals, they will let accomplishes go free to teach a lesson to the West. Until that, unfortunately Brother Prince’s case will remain in grey. You may have heard Rajitha said that Because America is holding a Lankawe Ambassador beyond diplomatic immunity; his government will not arrest an American citizen in Lankawe. Now to keep Lankawe Ambassador not arrested in America 1).Lankawe has dropped out his cases in Lankawe. 2). Lankawe has sent his wife and other family members to USA, so he needs not to be alone. 3). Lankawe restored his diplomatic immunity. 4). Lankaweyans are keeping this guy and maintaining the Luxurious life style still in USA even after he resigned in July 2014. You can notice how hard Yahapalanaya is trying to avoid arresting Old Brother Prince.
So as per Rajitha’s explanation, arresting Old Brother Prince or releasing accomplishes will make previous Ambassador arrested in USA. So, you can understand, Appe Aanduwa will not act on this. They will wait until election and see who is winning. If Old Royals come to power, it is their job to hand over the Ambassador to America and let accomplishes free. If Yahapalanaya comes back to power, it will be under a different deal with West. Then you have to ask Yahapalanaya at that time if they will let accomplishes go.”

Sri Lanka justice system is corrupted to the core. International community can watch as long as they want but nothing is going to change unless and until the international community get actively involved.

Just a few weeks back we heard that a Judge had to be treated with lime just before he gets on the bench to disperse justice and the dumb ass is too drunk. We don’t allow a laborer to come to work drunk we are having judges showing-up drunk.

Look at Lasantha’s case and the people now taken in for questioning and the others who are suspected but above the law. These are people who were supposed to uphold the law.

Medical examiner is supposed to be a professional with ethics but in this case according to the CID he has been part of the cover-up.

This failed state cannot uphold the law using kangaroo courts its time to allow foreign judges and persecutors.

    AFP/Colombo October 2016.

Sillysena royally screwed the Yahapalanaya govt that was created with the best of intentions. This guy is crooked as they come but like all crooks hides behind a white garb and Buddhism.

“Sri Lanka’s president yesterday accused top anti-corruption officials of launching politically motivated prosecutions against former military leaders, putting himself on a collision course with his own unity government.
Maithripala Sirisena took the unusual step of publicly condemning criminal charges brought last month against three retired admirals and the former defence secretary, the brother of his predecessor, Mahinda Rajapakse.
Military commanders who led the successful campaign to crush separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in 2009 should not be humiliated in such a way, said Sirisena, who ousted Rajapakse in a bitterly fought election in January 2015.
“I condemn the actions of FCID (Financial Crimes Investigations Division), the CID (Criminal Investigations Division) and the Bribery Commission,” he said at a meeting in Colombo.
“They should not work according to a political agenda. If they do, I will have to take stern action against them. I deplore their recent actions and I want to express my disgust.”
Analysts said the remarks signalled a rift between Sirisena and the national unity government led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, which oversees the FCID and the CID.
The two men are from rival parties, but made common cause to topple former strongman Rajapakse, whose entire family and closest associates face allegations of corruption as well as murder.
The three former admirals and ex-defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse stand accused of causing a loss of 11.4b rupees ($78mn) to the state through a private arms deal. They also face money laundering charges.
Anti-corruption activist Keerthi Tennakoon said Sirisena’s remarks signalled a widening rift within the uneasy
    coalition.
“Saying that ex-military men should not be prosecuted is something that is shocking,” Tennakoon said.”

Politicians rob billions and get promoted to Cabinet this poor sucker gets nailed for 15k.

“The Colombo High Court today sentenced a former officer of the Inland Revenue Department to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of bribery.

The accused, a former Assessor at the department’s Anuradhapura District Office, had been arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a businessman in 2004 for a reprieve in a tax case.

Colombo High Court Judge Sampath Vijayaratne also imposed a fine of Rs 9,000 and a penalty of Rs 15,000 on the defendant.

He had accepted the bribe to favorably resolve a case filed against the businessman for failure to pay taxes. “

All this BS our leaders keep serving us everyday has to end. And we following their words blindly should stop too.

It will end when we the common citizens start to reason as humans.

We have to realize that what affects a Tamil citizen will affect a Muslim the same way and will affect us Sinhalese in the same way. The laws are common, and so are the market forces and economics.

We should be wise enough to see how the law deals with all of us with extreme prejudice as common citizens and the same law is so flexible and soft on the leaders.

As a nation can we continue to get hoodwinked day after day? Is it not time to hold the politicians accountable for their words, actions and non actions? These guys keep us deceived with a rudimentary age old trick, DIVIDE AND RULE, and we fall for this crap everyday. Result is the common man fighting each-other while the leaders we have appointed enjoy all the perks.

It is time to call their bluff and demand Justice and Equity for all. We need to separate emotions from our thinking process and use our brains instead and understand our common plight.

We will then be able to demand what is good of all.

We need to keep politics and religion separate.
We need to keep ethnicity and equity separate.
We need keep social standing/ Economic standing and Justice separate.

We can then start to build Sri Lanka as a nation with our heads held high.
We deserve an environment for us to pursue our goals and achieve our dreams.

There are highly appropriate and valuable comments following each and every report published by CT.

Unfortunately, it is like dogs barking at trees or the moon.

I would like to wonder it aloud whether there is a practical way to put the noble expressions (words) to good use instead of them being hot air????

Lasantha asked for it and SarathFonseka complied. Is anybody else asking for it ?.
There is a pistol packing MP Bandara who will oblige. He is getting things done by pulling out his pistol. He may achieve miracles by shooting down stubborn people who oppose him!

Courts should stop protecting Gotabaya from being arrested. Like any other ordinary citizen, if he has done wrong, and the police feel that he has to be arrested, then the courts should allow him to be arrested without protecting him.
