The protest, organized by the Youth Wing of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by MP Namal Rajapaksa, agitated against the proposed ‘separatist constitution,’ selling of national assets, protecting those accused in the Central Bank bond scam, the exacting of political revenge, attacks on the Buddhist clergy, imprisonment of ‘war heroes’ and imposition of new taxes, and drew crowds from all parts of the country.
The event was headlined by the presence of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as all JO parliamentarians including those from the National Freedom Front and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, SLPP representatives of local government bodies, and the ‘Group of 16’ who recently reneged from the government. Another notable attendee was the former president’s brother Gotabhaya Rajapaks, a man touted to be the presidential candidate of the SLPP.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa stated that the demand was for a better and effective government which will also ensure national security. He endorsed the leadership of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa and laughed off leading questions regarding his political future.
The crowds filled all roads leading to the Lake House roundabout once the location was announced a little after 3 pm.
Spokespersons of the SLPP pointed out that the government had gone to great lengths to thwart the demonstration. A bus allegedly carrying persons planning to attend the demonstration was attacked in Badulla, which road construction work had been suddenly commenced in Nittambuwa causing heavy traffic and long delays along the Kandy-Colombo Road, a main artery along which crowds were to arrive from the Central and North Western Provinces.
Anticipating unruly behavior, security was tightened at Temple Trees, the President’s House and the Court Complex. The organizers however insisted that it was to be a peaceful demonstration.
Milinda Rajapaksha, CMC Member (SLPP) and spokesperson of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, tweeted at 7.30 pm that a ‘sathyakriyawa’ will be held at the Lake House roundabout. Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing the crowds said that the protest will continue until tomorrow morning.

This is not an election rally. This is a protest march against the government’s tyranny, sale of assets, tax burden, sale of lands to foreigners and many more.
After the British colonial era where Sinhalese held many protests against them, this is the first most successful protest after independence not to mention how peaceful it was.
Even office workers in Colombo took leave or went home early. Others joined. Parents didn’t send children to schools. Offices were empty. Roads were empty. If anybody wants to count heads, they should add those numbers too as it was a sign of support to Mahinda’s protest march.
The previous day MR called for a peaceful protest march and expressed his regret if any convenience is caused to workers in Colombo.
Not a single soul in the entire country complained about the protest march or any inconvenience caused.
That is the greatest achievement Mahinda received yesterday.

But he wanted to go against the constitution and changed through 18th amendment through bribe the MPs. What was the intention of 18th amendment? Purely greediness. Why couldn’t he ask some one in the party to contest for presidency after 18th amendment? Why he wanted to have that election before he finished his term? All highlights his greediness. To those who saw 30,000 to 45,000 in the Big March when only there were less than 5000, I can explain how the illusion was created. Like everything else involving the great Shit man, it too involves SHIT. Here is how it was done.
Every participant was given a meal parcel and a bottle of booze. A little bit of Aralu was added to the meal. We all know that aralu is a good purgative. As a result, by the time they arrived in Colombo every bus travelling marcher was ready to GO for a shit – actually multiple shits. As dusk approached, they started going one after the other – every half an hour or so- and at such high speed. If you know Aralu, you would know what I mean. Thus to the drone cameras, every single marcher appeared to be 10 separate marchers in Brownian motion. How much is 5,000 X 10? I think it is something like 35,000 to 50,000. To those who got boozed up and then had Aralu, like Mahindananda and Weerawansa, it looked like 200,000.

For example, in Pocono Mountains in the State of Pennsylvania they are called Pocono Potties and contain disposable pots (mutti) to collect the ‘stuff’.
