Wimal taking revenge on me: Prof. Marasinghe alleges
UNP National List MP Professor Akshuboda Marasinghe yesterday charged that he was forced to step down from his post at the State Engineering Corporation in 2011 as he refused to approve vehicles being released to close associates of former Housing Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
Professor Marasinghe came out with this allegation while responding to a statement by Joint Opposition MP Wimal Weerawansa who called for his arrest in Parliament on Tuesday. “There is no truth in what MP Weerawansa said about me as I never took a single vehicle illegally,” the MP added.
Coming up with more allegations about former MP Weerawansa, Professor Marasinghe said that he did not form the National Freedom Front (NFF). He said the party was formed by former MP Nandana Gunatillake and a few others and Weerawansa was invited to take up a position when he was in the political wilderness after defecting from the JVP. Jaliya Wickramasuriya re-remanded

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickramasuriya was further remanded till February 9 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today.
He was arrested and remanded on charges of misappropriating USD 332,000 from state funds when purchasing a building for the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington.
Prison Authority today did not produce the suspect in court due to his health condition. The suspect is currently being treated at Colombo National Hospital under the Prison custody.
His bail request on exceptional circumstance due to the illness was refused by the Magistrate and said it cannot be regarded as an extraordinary situation to grant bail since Colombo National hospital provides sufficient treatments for that particular illness.
The FCID filed charges under section 5 of the Public Property Act, where a suspect who has misappropriated public properties or assets for more than Rs. 25,000 has no bail relief unless granted due to exceptional circumstances or by a High Court Judge. (Shehan Chamika Silva)

For presidential election held on Jan 8, 2015 SLTB buses were hired in large numbers by UPFA by abandoning the passengers to ferry hired spectators to the meetings whenever Mahinda Rajapakse appeared in them. People have been abused then and even today by them fooling them further.
TOday, I saw some young men marching forward with crotons and jack tree branches in their hands to protest against one member of pc to have just added that eating them could be possible….

Thero is coming back with his crooked theory fooling techniques. Local government is serious challenge to UNP or split SLFP of New King. But if New King stand for EP against Old King, again New King is the one going to come. Because not in the near next centuries Old King can get Minority votes. Leaving him aside, Individual SLFP candidates will be willing local election. When Individual SLFP candidates win election, they are not Old King, but Individual candidates. Certainly Old King has no popularity to win EP election. But New King is scared, because if SLFP is splitted he lose to UNP.

Surely you know all too well a legally constituted Govt in a poor, 3rd world democracy (or what goes as one) in an otherwise ethnically divided country is generally at a disadvantage in its 3rd year. Particularly when it struggles to make ends meet in an environment when the previous regime had squandered – in many instances brazenly stolen the meagre resources of the country – in hideous ways. The electorate with a low memory span is one that has proves itself vulnerable to falling prey to the bogus and cunning promises of much stained political parties. That is what is happening today in this country divided in more ways than one including a much discredited army of activist foul-mouthed Buddhist (or unbuddhist) monks who have contaminated much of the land – unchallenged.
Sadly, it is to that cabal of thieves you are aligned with in your present political avatar while preaching homilies on ethics, good governance and what not. O Tempora! O mores!

Hi Dayan, in Malaysia, last time they had local governments election was
in 1978. Since them all local bodies are administered by appointed officials, and they are doing a fine job of it. Local bodies in the hands of politicians is same like the garlands in the monkeys hands.

I have been view of Nugegoda public meeting, that closed to Half Million of people were there.
All walk of life men and women has been join such meeting.
In my feeling this is protest by public “bad” governances of ruling UNP led by Ranil W….MS and CBK!
Many people are spoken against JVP-Terrorism as well.
And many of public that denied New division of Country proposed by UNP new Constitutional changes. Thai is common of senses of Public.
That is an unique model of democracy of Sri Lankan.

People are now well aware of the issues and their complex nature. The support for Mahinda is very strong and developing incrementally because he sailed the same ship through the most difficult kind of turbulence and pressure but still managed not to give this much suffering to the general public ; it is clear from the crowd and shop-keepers in and around Nugegoda area that this force is now unstoppable. People have lost their faith completely on this government because of:
1. The silly allegations being leveled against Mahinda and JO members, other political opponents whereas Yahapalanists are committing the severest financial crimes.
2. Bond scam (thieves are still high-ranking officials advising the PM and doing business as usual).
3. PM knew the scam (and allegedly supported it); that’s why he took over CB from the Finance Ministry. What an idiotic act!
4. Prez Sirisena is a slow-coach; when he comes to know the issue and take action (closing the stable after the horse had already bolted). Many people now think he knew all these misdoings but kept quiet to safeguard his buddy’s image as Mr. Clean, who helped him acquire power.
5. People compare what Mahinda did with what Ranil+Maithree duo are doing now; when Mahinda gets 90/100, the duo get only 10/100. Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana thero summarized the score card in a few sentences recently and the Prez promised he would work hard to improve it. However, the people say ‘Enough is enough’; go home!
Ranjan Ramanayake with his foul mouth has exhibited the true nature of the inabilities and the major weakness of ruling politicians: no plan at all for the country or nation; his harsh words to a lady officer not only antagonized the entire bureaucracy but all women in Sri Lanka. For bureaucrats Yahapalana ministers/Deputy Ministers are now like mad dogs that don’t understand they are suffering from rabies; some at the Nugegoda rally said: “the country is gone not just to dogs but to mad dogs”
