By Peter Oborne –
Veteran political correspondents like me recall Michael Morris, Deputy Speaker of the Commons from 1992-97, with a great deal of affection.
He carried off the role with plenty of brio and style. Michael Morris has since been deservedly elevated to the House of Lords, where he has taken the name of Lord Naseby.
As sometimes happens, he has gone sharply downhill since entering the upper house. Most troublingly he has become an apologist for the Sri Lankan government.
There is nothing wrong with standing up for unpopular or controversial causes: indeed it is admirable.

Well said, Peter Osborne. I have met this Naseby chap several years ago and have my doubts about his credentials. Like Subramaniam Swamy
the guy is available at a price – for anyone with the dough. He has some sickening and questionable local contacts; a willing political white-washer who will do anything for a fully paid-up fortnights stay in Sri Lanka during the English winter. To image the once sublime quality of British politics has declined to such poor standards is a pity.

To R varathan
If, as you say Lord N was available at a price then the racist, money laundering, drug dealing, people smaggling Tamils in the UK would have bought him out as they did with C4, AI. The quality of British politics has declined ever since they associated with low class Tamil thugs with their racist agenda. Forget about the war Tamils started and lost in a humiliating fashion, and get a life! Come to Sri Lanka and enjoy the peace!

Whoever reads this article must congratulate
Sajin Vass Gunawaardena. The Chief Buying
Officer of the UPFA. I will not mention his
other titles which begin with the word P…
Brits, once respected for their great standards
and integrity, are dime a dozen. Some of them can
be easily won over. Ask Sajin and he will tell you
how that is done.

Our High Commissioner in London unfortunately used the trick of getting down UK parliamentarians but has been found out last year by a group of investigative journos of the Daily Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/srilanka/10439696/Tory-MPs-banned-from-free-Sri-Lanka-trips.html

Our Ambassador to UK, Chris No(P)nis is an utter disgrace to the Sri Lankan elite in this country.

Oborne’s article carries a nice picture of Tamil Civilians engaged in everyday activities. Worth a look, and negates his whole essay.
/
Davidson Panabokke / June 6, 2014
Lord Naseby is talking about those armed men fighting the govt. How can it ”negate” the essay?
/
Ram / June 7, 2014
The machine guns are in the hands of ‘civilians’, the ones who allegedly were massacred.

To Ram,
What activities do Tamils in UK engage in other than drug pedalling, people smuggling, prostituition, thuggery, credit card rackets? They are a disgrace to Sri Lanka and humanity.

Lal,
Are you describing what is happening in Sri Lanka under the murderous family Rajapakse? What is happening in Sri Lanka is disgrace to BUDDHISM.

“They are a disgrace to Sri Lanka and humanity.”
You should distant the country from these people, put out a big advert, these people are not Sri Lankans. They are Eelam Tamils from Tamil Eelam.
That will do the trick.
/
lal / June 8, 2014
I don’t have to put up a board. The world has distanced itself from (extremist)Tamils – the whining, lying bunch of criminals and no hopers. They have done themselves what you have asked me to do, therefore, no need for adverts.
