Mahanayakes Needs To Demonstrate Courage

By AHRC

It is to the credit of some Buddhist monks that they have taken active role in extending support and protection to the Muslims victim to vicious attacks across Sri Lanka. The attacks began after the Secretary of BBS, Reverend Galagoda-Atte Gnanasara Thera, spoke at a recent meeting at Aluthgama.

Video footage of the June 16th meeting shows this monk using provocative words and gestures, inciting violence against the Muslim community. In one instance, he sought a promise from the crowd that they would smash bags with Halal symbols on the ground. Referring to business premises belonging to Muslims, he threatened that such places would be at “our mercy” (“ape sarranay”).

mahanayaka_therarThe end of the meeting has been the beginning of ferocious attacks across Sri Lanka, sending thousands of Muslim men, women, and children to seek refuge outside their homes. Two incidents demonstrate the nature of the criminal acts of the attackers.

The UNP Member of Parliament Mr. Palitha Thewaraperruma has written about an attack he witnessed against elderly women, pregnant women, and children by a group of people who had swords and wooden poles in their hands. Had it not been for his active intervention, these women and children would have been killed, according to a statement posted on the MP’s Facebook account.

The statement details that among the victims was an elderly mother, a pregnant woman, and other women and children. After the MP took them into his van, the criminal gang attacked the van with stones, iron poles, and bottles filled with sand. The MP’s eyes were cut by broken glass. The van, which was a new one, was heavily damaged.

One of the children, an infant, was hit with a rock. The infant is now in a Colombo Hospital in critical condition. The mother has also suffered injuries after being hit with a sand-filled bottle. The MP has further stated that when all these violence was taking place, the police and the Special Task Force were standing nearby. In fact, they were aiding and abetting the criminal gangs, refusing to intervene to stop the crimes unfolding in front of their eyes.

Reverend Watareka Vijitha Thera, a monk who is a member of the local government in Mahiyangana, and the leader of Jathika Bala Senawa, has publicly expressed his opposition to Reverend Galagoda-Atte Gnanasara Thera and the provocative activities of the BBS. Last night, Reverend Watareka Vijitha Thera was abducted and beaten. This morning he was found near a bridge in the Bandaragama area and admitted to Panadura hospital. He has now been transferred to Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

While the President of Sri Lanka has said that those responsible for violence would be dealt with, there is no indication that either Reverend Galagoda-Atte Gnanasara Thera or other individuals, who are the brains behind these organised attacks against Muslims, will be brought before the law.

It turns out the June 16th meeting is not the first time the Reverend has resorted to inflammatory public statements. Previous speeches of Gnanasara Thera demonstrate schemes to attack places of worship, business premises, and homes of Muslims.

The inaction of the police and the Special Task Force point to directions from above to aid and abet criminals engaged in violence and fail to carry out their duties. If the President is genuine about his promise of protection to the Muslim community, then it is his duty to arrest all those officers that aided and abetted this violence and who failed to carry out their duties as required by law.

It is evident that the BBS and its leadership are engaged in a plan to make Muslim businessmen leave their business premises and also to get Muslim residents to leave certain areas. The BBS has made it clear that all those who oppose them, including any Buddhist monks, will be dealt with severely. The attack on Reverend Watareka Vijitha Thera therefore comes as no surprise.

The Mahinda Rajapaksa government is betraying an incapacity or unwillingness to enforce the law. The primary function of a government is to enforce the law against all criminal elements, and to curb every form of crime. The President is failing in his duty to command his forces to ensure peace and security.

None other than the Minister of Justice has admitted the failure of the government to enforce the law and provide protection to the people. When a government lacks determination to stop violence, it encourages more violence, particularly when riots break out.

Under these circumstances, the leading Buddhist clergy of the country, which includes the Mahanayake Theros, should demonstrate their solidarity with the Muslims under attack and demonstrate moral courage by intervening to stop the violence. Some Buddhist monks have already intervened by visiting Muslim communities and indicating their opposition to these pogroms.

If the Mahanayake Theros were also to step out and visit the places where Muslim refugees have sought protection, it would be a clear indication of compassion towards all sections of Sri Lankan society.

The Mahanayakes need to EDUCATE themselves and then educate the Sinhala Modayas on What the Buddha Taught – the MIDDLE PATH.

Living in luxury and driving around in Benz cars gifted to them by the Rajapakse military dictatorship the Mahanayakas are living in IGNORANCE, Pride and Maya.

Sinhala Buddhism is in need of reform, de-politicization and demilitarization, but the uneducated and ignorant Mahanayakes haven’t got a clue!
Violent, politicized and militarized, Sinhala Buddhism, is an insult to the Buddha and to Buddhists around the world today.

    AHRC,

This demonstrates that BOT ALL the Sinhalese Buddhist Monks follow the Mara, The BBS, The Maras.

The problem is that because they were silent, the Maras, the Mara following BBS and their goons have been able to run amok.

It is high time all the Mahanayakas come out, true to Buddha, and denounce the Terrorist BBS, who have been identified as Terrorists even before the Alutgama disaster.

Only stupid believes lies from gossip monger LeN. Of every new item in LeN more than half is untrue. Just read its earlier reportings and compare with the truth you have come to know afterwards. LeN criticize and attack Buddhism, Buddhists and any politician but Ranil and Mangala. They think they can win that way. Good luck for them.

This excellent speech deserves to be headline news on SILLUMINA, every news paper and media outlet. Unfortunately, our masses are too dumb to understand the gravity of the situation in the country.

The speech made by the JVP Leader Anura Dissanayaka at the debate on the resolution presented in Parliament by the government alleging it’s to get Parliamentary approval to oppose UNHRC mediation in Sri Lanka was appreciated by many Parliamentarians of the opposition as well as from the government.

The amendments presented by the JVP for the resolution were rejected by the government. The request made by the JVP that a vote should be taken regarding its amendments was approved.

The JVP participating in the debate stated it presented 6 proposals to protect the country from interference the country is being subjected to internationally. The proposals received 46 votes. As the government rejected the proposals the Members of the JVP walked away from the chambers at the final vote taking.

So are you MARA Buddhist too?

The whole world is blind and fools? Only MARA and his goons have eye?

If a Rich politician like MR donates a new S-Class Mercedes Benz to Mahanayake, he might agree to go and visit those affected Muslims..
When Buddha was passing his final stage, monks asked him to appoint a MahaNayake, Buddha said there shouldn’t be chief monk or leaderships in monk-hood, “Dharma” should lead. S-Buddhists going completely against this and appoint thousands of Monk MahaNayakas and create more rigid hierarchy than laymen societies.. S-Buddhist MahaNayakas are the culprits of most of ethnic disharmony in SL, is there any point of asking them to resolve those issues they purposely created?

There are Buddhists and Buddhists. Since the Mahsnayake Theros are shit scared of Gonsara Thero of Balu Bala Sena they will not open their mouth. If they do they will loose their position as Rajapakse will abolish the present system of Buddhist nikayas, this message was clearly delivered to the Mahanayakes through Mervyn Silva some time ago by the President.

I am sure Emperor Ashoka must be turning in his grave wondering why on earth did I send my children to Sri Lanka to spread Buddhism!

The Mahanayakas need to clearly and unequivocally condemn the BBS and its leaders and demand that Gnyanasara be arrested and BBS banned for bringing disrepute to Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa the BBS patron and protector should also be arrested.

Buddhism, Christianity are all engaged in violence and terrorism.
Neither the Mahanayakes nor the Catholic & Christian Clergy want to demonstrate courage.

If they did, Sri Lanka would have been a peaceful Island.

          So the question still remains unanswered;

Why are so many Sinhala-gon-modayas still running away to sweat and prop-up ailing economies?

Sihala Gon Modayas only know Dansal, Benz and Kappan therefore it is obvious they and are unable to create opportunities. All opportunities come only via foreign cooperation and when the foreign enterprise leaves the establishment turns into a terrorist den of Sihala Buddhist Turd.

On Poson Poya day, 2014, the Buddha Dhamma died, killed by the Sinhala people under the orders of Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Maha Nayakes will now chant Pirith and give “Sangika Dhana”.

Buddhism was always destined to be destroyed by the Sinhala people who prefer to worship concrete structures, rocks, and trees, light lamps and offer flowers. They have carried out their mission. Mahinda Rajapaksa must now resign having accomplished what he came to do.

The Mahanayakas need to re-read the Suttas and ask the idiots in the BBS to do the same, i.e. go back to school. Their Buddhism and their insane speeches are destroying the country and destroying Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

    Sutta 149 [188 Eng.version] says:

In sooth to every man that’s born
A hatchet grows within his mouth
Wherewith the fool, whene’er he speaks
And speaks amiss, doth cut himself

He who the blameworthy doth praise,
or who the praiseworthy doth blame
builds by his mouth his evil doom
and by that doom he finds no weal.

The president’s re-election takes precedence over anything else.
He cannot afford to lose even a single vote.

Hence there will not be any punishment meted out to the BBS members, their thugs, the police, the STF, the army or anyone else.
The “judicial” inquiries will be a whitewash – a high powered commission is yet to name those who shot dead 27 prisoners in cold blood.

There will not be any compensation paid for deaths, property loss & damage not to muslims & NOT to Sinhala Buddhists either.
There will not be any apology.

Hakim will swallow his shame and anguish.
He cannot resign – other muslim parliamentarians are waiting to take his place.
