Mahinda – Oyā Ehumkang Denna

By Suranimala –

It is with sadness and incredulity that I peeped into the morning newspapers from above. Since I will not be able to meet you deep down below anytime, I need to ask you to hark back to January 8th, 2009.

Recall my epitaph?

Well then,

I consider it pretty rich coming from you, if the article published in The Morning of 24th October 2026 is true.

I quote,

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has urged his son, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa, to trust the judiciary and refrain from political revenge, in a letter written while Namal remains in remand custody.

Recalling his own experience in politics, Mahinda advised his son not to hold children responsible for their parents’ actions and not to target people who received employment opportunities under his administration. (unquote)

The wheel has turned, a full circle you now feel the heat. I guess it matters nowt to you how my parents and siblings felt on the fateful day in 2009. I would remind you that there are scores of parents who felt the same during your and your brother’s regime. Ekneligoda, Wasim Thajudeen, Keith Noyahr, Upali Tennekoon, and do not forget the many who suffered the same fate in the north and east.

Many say it is more painful to live and suffer. I need to ask you for an answer to that question. You have not done a single day’s work other than being a politician. We know how much that earns. That is if one is honest. Your children too, have not done so. I do not consider your son’s stint in the Navy, as it is being questioned. Your wife, well, she was never employed
either. So, where does the wealth come from?

Politics is a dirty game, you said to me. I now understand what you meant. You meant it was for the people. You are now……..people.

It is now right for you to repent and ask for forgiveness from your maker. I shudder to see you struggling, even in the evening of your life, to place your son on the throne. Thanha. Nothing but Thanha.

Ides of March is nigh. Hark back to the period when you and your despicable brother ruled the roost. How many journalists died? How many disappeared? How many were tortured? It has stopped now that you and your brother are not in power. Do you ever reflect on your past?

There are lessons to be learnt as to being a civilised human being. You and your extended family paid scant respect towards civility. Naturally, your children too followed in your footsteps. One wishes to be the President of the country simply by virtue of being a son. One was thrust into a commissioned position in the Navy and sent overseas for training in double quick time, despite not having the required qualifications for entry. The youngest hallucinates
that he is a rocket scientist. Excuse me?? You were responsible for that charade.

The people of Sri Lanka are surely but steadily learning that education is the key to a better living. Parents have learnt not to depend on politicians anymore. Children in rural schools are learning English. They do not wish to become a daily- wage earning worker, or to follow in their father’s footsteps.

Let the law take its course. Yes, the law states that one is considered innocent until proven guilty. Considering the trust placed by the people in hoisting you to the highest office of our Nation, it would be wise if your family proved their innocence.

I dare say that you would not be charged in court. You and I know the reason. Why stir a bee nest if preventing your family from plundering the country in the future is the intention?

Rest Mahinda, rest. Be in Peace. In Peace. Rest Gota, rest. Be in Peace.

Mahinda and Ranil both destroyed the SLFP and UNP in two different
ways . Mahinda created a new party and Ranil cut UNP into two . Both
stand today in front of the world rejected and dejected but foolishly
and arrogantly trying to put a smart face thinking the country is still
in its seventies . Mahinda worked hard but never dreamt to reach the
heights he reached because of Anura but Anura missed it , Same is the
story of Ranil . Ranil was never groomed for leadership and Gamini
Dissanayaka was . Gamini planned it out and worked for it . Like D B
Wijetunga , Ranil too was ” Dunnoth Baragannam . ” Whoever of these
or any other , their next move would have been only their family and
the rest would have been ” Sereppu soup .”

UNP and SLFP are the two institutions that destroyed this island. These institutions are owned by few families (less than five families). They made the people are fools. They are well British trained educated families. You cannot blame only thiose two. It is the system they got it from their masters.

I understand the ‘Mental Agony’ MR is going through now. Imagine his Wife, three sons, brothers, their children, and many other relatives (except Gota’s son) in deep trouble due to allegations of corruption, fraud, and other crimes.

MR: It is too late. Too late to ask your sons and wife to rely only on the Judiciary. However, I am glad you have asked them to rely on the Judiciary. Had you been a ‘Good’ father, husband, brother, and a relation to all your relatives, don’t you think you would have been a great ‘Leader’ to the country, the people, and your family?

You have missed the bus! Sorry.

      Douglas ,

MARA writing to his son is nothing but a ploy . He is imitating
leaders like Nehru writing to his daughter Indira . Cheap publicity
stunt here . These father and son are a lesson for future politics in
the country for what not to do . Contents of the letter is already out .
Why ? Why do we need to know what’s in it ? MARA’S street
politics . Drama kings and queens and their princes . We are in full
      supply of jokers .

        WW,
As you say, Mara, street politics seems common to AKD as well. The way he practises the politics of popularity looks no different to my eyes. Yesterday’s incident, in which a self-organised group was allowed to make a YouTube video about his trip, only reinforces this perception. His Presidential Media Unit appears to have people who manipulate information to enhance his popularity, behaving more like political thugs than responsible public communicators. Looking back at the past 26 months, AKD has achieved little that genuinely deserves praise, despite the absence of major disasters apart from Ditwah. Even the damage to roads and other infrastructure caused by the disaster remains largely unrepaired, leaving victims in temporary tented shelters a year later.

        cont.
Yet minister Bimal Rathnayake (some assume him to be a bastard offspring of MaRa) claims that sufficient funds are available for housing and other projects, while blaming administrative obstacles. If the money is available, why are vulnerable people still left to suffer? Why continue making excuses when people desperately need support? Problems seem to be accumulating across almost every sector. I was also struck by Chathuranga Abeysinghe telling the Indian press that corruption no longer exists in Sri Lanka. Can anyone honestly make such a claim, especially when questions of alleged irregularities in coal procurement have been raised by an appointed commission? Political popularity cannot substitute for accountability, and public relations cannot erase legitimate questions about governance.
