Maithripala Sirisena On A Slippery Slope

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

The economy will keep sliding back while big egos of big people keep clashing in this manner in an appalling unleash of greed. The Curse of Kuveni is on….’

‘Counter-Revolution’

I was in Sri Lanka and just returned after having my eyes and ears closer to the sights and sound of ground politics over there. Ever since Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated in the “revolution of January 8th,’ the political scenario had been volatile. Bitten by the desperate existential need to save themselves from jail, the Rajapaksa family and cabal went on a campaign of destabilising the new yahapalanaya government. With court investigations into serious  allegations being held up on the excuses of due process, the ‘counter revolutionary’ forces had a field day of blustering its way along with political displays that seemed to create the ambience of fear and doubt that the former regime might claw its way back into power. When the  impact of displays began fading, trouble was created with the backing of organisations like the GMOA that enjoy untrammelled blackmailing power. I wouldn’t count out the former  regime from the petroleum crisis that I witnessed.

New Window for Sirisena?

The exposure effect of the prima facie cases of murder and theft attributed to the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime eventually scuttled the ‘Mahinda Sulanga’ movement. It was too much to bear as far as the public consciousness was concerned. Provoked and deceived by his  largely crooked SLFP cohorts, Maitripala Sirisena (MS) perceived a new window of opportunity for him. The two-year period of cooperative agreement with the UNP and SLFP had ended and hence MS could not be troubled by public ethics. His deal-making brother Dudley, a businessman, was also a force to reckon with as far as MS was concerned. It is rumoured that Dudley is close to Gotabaya, who is Mahinda’s former powerful brother.

While I was in Sri Lanka, there were hush – hush rumours that something was brewing. MS was no ‘neutral,’ outsider; he had been and is a thoroughbred political animal since his days of being a Grama Sevaka. Mahinda had blown up his image but Gota in non- convict status can blow the trumpet  of southern Sinhala Buddhist nationalism. The public myth of Gota is more real than the reality of Gota. Here was a new good brew for the voting public: A Third force from within the ranks of the former regime forces. The new force will carry the slogan of  ‘reasonable nationalism,’ ‘democracy,’ and governance that can deliver.

As Dr. Jayadeva Uyangoda, writing in the Ravaya has pointed out, Sri Lanka is now facing a tri polar situation that replaces gradually and imperceptibly the initial bipolar scenario of the YP government versus the Mahinda Rajapaksa former regime forces. I would speculate that if alleged “Sirisena plans” work out, the former regime forces would be reabsorbed eventually into the newly conceived Third Force. Gota and Sirisena will work out some arrangement given they win the battle of power politics.

Ranil?

What of Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe? If the Third Force succeed in its plans, it would not be difficult to oust him and his United National Party for the second time since President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratung. The JO-led and orchestrated scurrilous rumours of Ranil’s alleged involvement in “the bond scam,” has tarnished the latter’s image of Mr Clean. Ranil is still ‘Mr Vision,’ nevertheless. On the  hand, if the Commission findings exonerate him the clean image gets restored and he derives strengths from that.

Not Speculation in the Air

Now, the above developing new scenario isn’t mere groundless speculation in the air. Remember  how, some months back, President Sirisena made an angry speech critiquing attempts to arrest Gotabaya Rajapaksa? He even described Gota as somebody who gave heroic leadership to the anti-LTTE war. The attorney General has completed his investigations on most Gota’s charges and he is awaiting President approval for some months now. It was inappropriate blaming the Law and order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka, while the responsibility is firmly cast on the President.

The then Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe acted on the same vein with regard to Gota. He had admitted in Parliament that he had prevented Gota’s arrest as the latter was “a war hero who saved the country.” Simultaneously, Wijeyadasa openly backed the controversial Avant Guarde that had been Gota’s creation. Wijeyadasa would not have quit had the UNP backbenchers not pressurised him to do so and had social media, the wider public opinion and civil organisations not gone against him. The UNP’s attempt to have Wijeyadasa removed from the Justice Minister portfolio during the reshuffle had been allegedly stymied by President Sirisena who cited the opposition of the Maha Sanga or some elements of the latter. Mark my word: Wijayadasa would be one of the first to join the new (alleged) Sirisena/Gota-led political force. He is waiting outside until the call and he is behind many machinations of the new force. Wijeyadasa has Machiavellian  craftiness. He is a smooth talker and smooth dealer and can given a public impression of being ‘reasonable.’

Senasinghe’s outburst had been in context.

Bond Controversy

It is small wonder that many in the UNP accuse that the Bond Controversy had been hatched by Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and that President Maitripala followed up with a Commission. Much  of the success of this Third force would depend, however, on the findings of that Commission. In this connection, Ranil Wickremesinghe’s late overture to the Commission to cross-examine him was a master strategy. I was watching the media covering that event and I saw how the cameras had focused on Wickremesinghe and waited long for his Right Royal arrival. That was a spectacle to watch. That had been a Mangala Samaraweera media creation. No wonder that lecherous-looking bloke Dilan Perera  grumbled about the media attention to Ranil. With Mangala on their side and if the Commission clears the UNP the Third Force will not have an easy path upward. Many significant figures of the former regime are still with the UNP.

The Gamble

Besides, it isn’t any easy gamble for President Sirisena. It can put him on a dangerously slippery path that can surprisingly slide him to disaster. He has to acknowledge that he had enjoyed thus far the cooperation of his UNP partner that had carried out their part of the agreement  in good faith. As for Ranil Wickremesinghe, the latter has befriended Modi in India and the two get along perfectly. It was, however, sad to see him implore the bellyful-God in the Tamilnadu Kovil, once again. It seems God is the only hope. Did that God grant him his  request on the previous occasion?

Ordinary People?

For the ordinary people, however, even God is no hope:This isn’t any good news. Power struggles at the centre can deflect foreign investment-something the island desperately needs to restructure its economy. There isn’t any patriotism in such power struggles. People remain mere foolish goats that must go when pulled along. Life becomes more and more desperate for these poor masses. The country will keep sliding back while big egos of big people keep clashing in this manner in an appalling unleash of greed.

Indeed, this is Shimon is a Tosh Artist!

Ranil needs to be sacked from the UNP and impeached by the President. UNP needs a new generation of honest young leaders to rescue the party from Ranil who has corrupted the grand old party and country almost beyond repair.

Of course not Sujeeva Senasinghe who is a crook and liar or Sajith who flunked out of LSE or footnote clown Harsha or corrupt Kabir or Highway robber Kirella who should all be impeached for the Bond scam and attempt to cover it up. GO Home Shimon

What do you mean by Tosh Artist?

No point impeaching just a few. You must go the whole hog and deport everyone back to their ancestral homeland in South India. I love to see you on first boat.

If the entire article is a joke, then laugh, don’t moan and groan.

Please cite the part you consider is full of assumptions and that part you think is lies.

You can be sure of one thing. No one will go to jail.

Rajapakses will not go to jail. Infact the Maha Sanga has requested Sirisena not to arrest him. This is the status of law and order in this country. Maha Sanga has no clue on Constitutional affairs and have objected to it. They had objected to certain proposals in the budget as well. Next year the budget may have to be passed by the monks and not in parliament !! Is Sirisena the President or someone else?

Ranil and clan will not be charged as well since the whole bond commission is to buy time. In fact Tie Caot wearing Ranil is bare bodied at Thirupathy India yesterday. Is this what we expect from head of state ?
What is going on? Haven’t we for God sake learnt a lesson from Astrology pundits now. On top of that we have Chandimal cricket captain saying that we won against Pakistan due to some mysterious woman blessings and wish she had taken the field in the on going test match in India where we are going to get thrashed !!

All the thieves are roaming around as to nothing has happened. Law enforcement has gone to the dogs.

Welcome to reality in Sri Lanka.

    We have no hope.

      Jagath,

“Maha Sangha has no clue on Constitutional affairs and have objected to it”

How the hell you know that Maha Sangha has no clue on Constitutional affairs. Some of the Maha Sangha who comment on constitution are Professors (not only on Buddhism) and many of them have doctorates. Do you thing the NGO crooks who thrive on Green Backs from the west have a clue on constitutional affairs. They are just mouth pieces for their pay masters. So why should we take what they say seriously. They do not care damn about this country.

In Sri Lanka every other person is a doctorate, GL Pieris, Wijedasa (double), Mahinda (LLD), Gota (DSc), ………………………………. Do you think doctorate in Pali, Sinhala, Prakrit, …. make them expert on constitution?

What is your problem with NGOs and their employees. Have they ever refused employment to you? Were you employable?

    Shaymon Jayasinghe,

RE: Maitripala and Sirisena on a Slippery slope.

Let’s see what they have in common besides being on a slippery slope.

    1. They are the Presidents and Prime Minister in a Land where the mean IQ of the inhabitants, have been measured to be 79.Can they, or other Paras perform better than what can be expected from the mean?

    https://photius.com/rankings/national_iq_scores_country_ranks.html

The intelligence scores came from work carried out earlier this decade by Richard Lynn, a British psychologist, and Tatu Vanhanen, a Finnish political scientist, who analysed IQ studies from 113 countries, and from subsequent work by Jelte Wicherts, a Dutch psychologist.

2 They both are Paras, like the populace, (except the Native Veddah Aethho), who came illegally to the Land of Native Veddah Aethho. Both show the characteristics of the Paras, lying, cheating, deception, stealing, low IQs, even though both are supposed to have attended “Royal” colleges.

Mitochondrial DNA history of Sri Lankan ethnic people: their relations within the island and with the Indian subcontinental populations

    https://www.nature.com/articles/jhg2013112

    Journal of Human Genetics (2014) 59, 28–36 (2014)

Through a comparison with the mtDNA HVS-1 and part of HVS-2 of Indian database, both Tamils and Sinhalese clusters were affiliated with Indian subcontinent populations than Vedda people who are believed to be the native population of the island of Sri Lanka.

    Shyamon Jeyasinghe

It is very frustrating to read some articles in the CT and to make comments on them because it is a never ending saga of problems in Sri lanka. The 30 year civil war, the Ethnic issue which has not been solved after nearly 9 years have passed since the war ended, the problem of missing persons who surrendered to the armed forces during and after the war, the Tamil political prisoners. Then comes the power struggle among the major parties and the joint opposition, then the Bond Scam where the main person of the legislature is fully involved , either failed to accept his mistake and resign. Then again the New constitution with no solution for the minorities in the North and East. Racial tension between the Sinhalese and the Muslims. Hard-line Buddhists and academics creating more problems to destabilise the country.
It is the peoples idiocy to elect these people to the legislative body. The Tamils were foolish to elect Sirisena as president as he is no better person to lead the government. He did not make any promises to the Tamil people personally although he sought their support to elect his as president. it was the TNA who promised the Tamil people on behalf of the President. Although he has done a few things, he had not done enough of what the Tamil people demanded. Rajapaksas, Sirisenas, Wickremasinghas and Sambanthans are all the same. These people are not patriotic. Let Sri Lanka sink, we will look after ourselves attitude. There is no future for Sri lanka and its people as time is running out.

Shyamon Jayasinghe as usual is trying to be an intellectual, analyst, a yahapalana Ranil supporter. but, actually has become a clown. You just say, I went for a vacation. Just BS. You have not seen anything in the country other than what you explained.

Yousuppu, since when is Wikipedia making people intellectuals? People become intellectuals by the strength of their work and Shymon certainly can’t claim intellectual status based on his boot licking of Ranil and the UNP. He is simply paying back for past favours. Pity you.

There is only one force in Poya Day economy Sri Lanka; The Saffron Force; . what you are refferring to as third force and second force are in fact the torch bearers of the saffron force. their objective is to carry the torch and in the mean time amass wealth for themselves. SO whoever carry the torch the poya day economy and politics of Sri Lanka is not going to change.

I have coined the phrase “Poya day Sri Lanka” ; I invite the readers and writters to use it freely . Who knows, similar “Aiyo” which is now in the oxford dictionary , poya day sri lanka may one day makes it way. That would be a great achievement for sinhala sri lankan poiliticans

Eagle eye, it has been proved geologically, archaeologically, linguistically and genetically that Tamils were present in Srilanka very much before Sinhalese. In fact Sinhala race started with the arrival of the first historically recorded Kallathonies, Vijaya and his 700 criminal gang. You are indeed a Tamilian with Malayalam and Bengali mixture, and for you to be left alone please go to Kerala or Bangladesh, and be with them. If you remain in Srilanka, you will be subjected to Kuveni’s curse

Why don’t you invite Professors Gananath Obeysekere, Sudharsan Seneviratne, H L Seneviratne, Osmund Bopeararachchi, ……………… with you? In fact you would be able to teach all of them a thing or two.

When all heard Sirisena’s campaign speeches, and the one at his inauguration all thought a Nelson Mendala or a Martin Luther King or a Ghandi was reborn in Sri Lanka. He was brought to power by all the forces which were against MR & cabals, and the SLFP. The moment he became the leader of SLFP and embraced all those SLFPer’s who worked against him, he hit the shit buckets, and he proved himself to all that he too another Sri Lankan petty politician. People within the country and internationally know who he is now, that’s the reason even though he was short listed but he didn’t get the Noble Prize. All his high words and deeds gone to high winds and wast. His, his near and extended families’ and cronies only desire is power at any cost. Man who said, he was only one time President and would get ride off the executive presidency, after tasting power, wants to stay in it as long as possible. He is like a saint says that he wants to get ride off it but he pushes all his catchers in SLFP to demand it’s continuation in order for him to hang on to power. Only obstacle for his this project is Ranil and his UNP, and that’s the reason he is working hard with his dispical lot to do the utmost damage to them. Corruption from any one or from corner should be condoned, and all those who guilty should be brought before the law. But in the case of bond controversy the COPE done it’s job, and the report should be given to AG and relevant law agencies to nail the culprits but here he has commissioned a comic commission to the throw shit around all direction wasting public money.

    cont….

  • 5
    1

(Part 2)That too the AG’s lawyers are givin so much power and they behave as real macho men where as they don’t have that as far as the cases concerned MR and cabals, and act like timid cats, all these are because of the strong order from the top. Sirisena is going to get himself aligned with MR and his dispicable lot, and going to learn the lesson of his life for by heart MR and cabal know he is the number one betrayer of them, and would never ever forgive him. They are keenly waiting for their next opportunity to take revenge on him. All these dramas would put the poor people and the God bless country into untold sufferings and hardships, and God should save them.

The article, well-written indeed, is a string of speculative assumptions no doubt. But that is political analysis in a situation where one cannot take any chances. Had Mahinda’s men done these assumptions, the Sirisena betrayal would have come to light in time. Even Dayan Jayatilleka missed it all.Sirisena may betray again? Can’t he? Done once, he can do it again. As confirmed by international expert teams, the economy has begun looking upwards. GSP Plus is working. However, all these are things that will take time. Will the economy reverse again? The writer raises critical questions worth considering.

    • 3
      2

Viduropola have you had. A dream. Which international expert team said that the economy is looking upwards? Look at the national accounts which will show that the economy is going backwards. Do you know what GSp plus is? It affects only garment exports to the EU and marginally so as the export market is competitive. It is one thing to be loyal to your political party and quite another to make pronouncements based on abject ignorance.

Shyamon Jayasinge: You are back in Australia having had got insight into “ground realities”. I am in S/L presently experiencing the “ground realities”. I recently attended a wedding ceremony at a Holiday Resort by the beach in down South. The wedding ceremony belonged to a party from the little far away village from the Beach Hotel. Next to where I was seated along with a few of the known elders were a group of young lads. After a while the young group got engaged in a discussion centered on politics, mind you that was after a couple of “Shots”. It began in Sinhala and escalated to Sinhala combined English. I cannot give the Sinhala in its original form because of the restrictions on “Comment Policy” of CT. This is how it began: “Ado Ranilaya mara gemak ne deela thiyenne. Mooi, uge hathikerai ekathuwela mulu Central Bankekama gilala. Another lad intervened and said: ” Mokakda do, Sirath boruwa dagena innawa kal mara mara. Sirath bayai Mahindayata. Another one joined: ” Mun okkoma ekai. Me sare ape ekkek arimu ban hedila enna. Untath chance ekak denna onene. After a while another round of “Shots” flowed and what happened after that was further interesting. I do not wish to report except on one final conclusion they all agreed: “Me sareth okun avi bothalui, tyarui, sevili thadui, kudai, caps aragena. Ganilla hama dema. Habai apith demu okunta me sere niyama gemak. Did you get that message from the “Ground”. I don’t think so. One thing I learned from this episode was: After a couple of “SHOTS” our people get awakened to the REALITY and speak out quite intelligently. That is the present REALITY. So bring down the price of “Arrack” for some time at least so that intelligence can prevail. Did you see that Mr. Jayasinghe?

We could cite some points, but them only mere points. Our object can only be lime lighting issues. We cannot be with that point or against another point, because they only mere points. Further anybody if gets a glimpse by the lime lighting need not to see the same anatomy we saw. But that need not to be the circumstances for other commentators or writers. So it may be good, suitable, or even needed to the Spinners of the parties to stay with and defend their points. Then those write ups necessarily become political analysis, irrelevant of the character or properties, or association of it. Our path does not allow or even afford to be trapped in a job of detangling a well-orchestrated mega serials, the Muslim-Sinhala governments political Dramas. Our confidence limit is within the Caspian Sea and not to test the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Once we have clearly focused up to where we would be going, we can take a look in Shyamon Jayasinge analysis.

There is no question Shyamon Jayasinge is a hard core UNPyer. But, is that deserve to compare him to Thero De Silva?… or even to discount his writing to equalizing Thero’s Castro Purana? I do not know!

Recently we saw few Comets lurking in the political horizon of Lankawe. But, is that means all the shaking on the political lands are earthquakes? We do not know if all these are for to escape from UNHRC investigation and the IC pressure to change the constitution to devolve power. If the Yahapalanaya splits on EP’s future authority, neither devolution nor investigation needs to be completed to fulfill the international obligation of the Yahapalanaya. But that will still obligate the IC to bring back Yahapalanaya to power because that is the only way IC can ensure Yahapalanaya gets a second chance to give try to satisfy its desire.

If a constitutional change has to take place, it has to be multi party agreement. In that case 19A cannot be out done. Then that fate is cursed on National Unity too, whether it is a Yahapalanaya or Ayahapalanaya. If this is right, it is telling whether Secret Solution coming or not, EP’s power changes or not, but Yahapalanaya is not changing and it has to there even after EP and General Election. We need to understand clearly that this is possible because the sequential order i.e is Squabbles for Secret Solutions, Multiparty Unity, 19A and Yahapalanaya – But not Multi Party Decision, Constitutional Change and National Unity government- The later sequence only imaginary and not a practical one for Lankawe.

  • 0
    0

Let’s look at on different angle. How hard can one try to push in a constitutional change to fit into this ever changing political agenda? By constitutional change, we mean devolution, fair election modifications, moderate or no EP. Any hard can it be, but not push will be with any luck. (The whirring currents here are only Chaos and uncertain. It is mind boggling to think how the 8th grade politicians are inventing, floating, swimming across and reaching the shore to reap their benefits to become multi-millionaires in no time. ) New King needs Ranil and Tamils to win the coming election. Even the war crime hero Old King lost without those two. Unless a coup materialize as Dinesh predicted, the EP election will be first and General Election will be after that. Ranil doesn’t need New King for General election and in the last election they all stood alone; UNP-SLFP-TNA. Here New King is challenging UNP and expecting the UNP to fall on his knee before the EP election. Here Shyamon Jayasinge is banging on his theories; not allowing any fissure to guess that this is cannot be true but only UNP-SLFP electioneering drama for IC.

Shyamon Jayasinge is writing up that there will not be any constitutional change; there will EP election; Brother Prince will be Challenge standing above Son Prince.

Even though some in this group failed to understand the real truth of what is happening in Sri Lanka today, your article is a brilliant analysis of the the present situation. We can excuse native veddha as his English knowledge may be not so advance to understand the words you used to describe the situation..New addition to the Constitution prevent president removing PM before 4 years 6 months unless he resign from the post.
The game Sirisena is playing is very detrimental for his good health as UNP hold 105 seat against SLFP 96 seats in the Sirisena’s group and Mahinda’s group. If SLFP withdraw from the government UNP can form a government with TNA and others and then you can say good buy to the Yahapalanaya.
As you explain Sirisena is in a very slippery slope and he should take some advice from Constituional Experts about getting thrown out from his position with the majority plus the Mahinda group. President Sirisena as the President should think about the future of the country above his party deals.

Shaymon sees “Yahapalanaya- Joint Comedies” structure as election mechanism, not as or in addition to as a ruling mechanism”. (My belief is SLFP-UNP identity has to be there as separate units to 19A materialize.)

So he viewed there only one force in that and now assembling, plugging some out of Yahapalanaya and plugging some from Joint Comedies, the third force. This automatically is making him to upgrade JC to a genuine, existing force but not a mirage. Our assumption is Joint Comedy is only a camp of failed lefts warming them up their cold end in the anti-minority camp of Old Royals, nothing more specifically not a coordinated force. He is claiming SLFP is no force now, but will be the third soon, once Dudley attaches his plugin there. He is seeing in, separately in Old King and Brother Prince, two forces strength, but labelling the Old King as the spent one.
He though reserving brother Prince to make in future turns, now sees Brother Prince only as a marketable star, but has not naming him for any current political turning taking place. He did not see the current turmoil as the fireworks of Old King under camouflage of Joint Comedies. Neither has he acknowledged Joint Comedies existence is only to capture back SLFP. All what he doing is, in the eve of New King is challenging for the 40 consecutive years of Mr. Clean title from Ranil, he presenting Brother Prince as the Mr. Clean in between that competition.

Practically, one can take his theory as there are four forces(UNP, SLFP, Joint Comedy Under Old King and Brother Prince) and two are come closer(SLFP & Brother Prince) to merger and to walk on the path to victory.

My Guess is New King is not goofing thinking Brother Prince can bring victory for him instead of Ranil.

    • 0
      0

All his endeavors are, to keep Ranil supporting him, he has keep Old Royals in the SLFP camp. That only can balance the SLFP with UNP and bring Ranil to the negotiating table. (We know most of the essays in CT are spinning rather than explaining. Author may not be willing to clarify which aisle he intended to place his display. If author is trying to discredit New King’s intention and boost Ranil’s power, author is not going to accept that tweaking. Brother Prince is not high School boy go after any beautiful girl his friends point at, abandoning his family. He has to end up recognizing Son Prince to come up in life through his family’ fame)

When New King appointed Old King as the election head in the last election, he had taken proper political advice. But Old King didn’t, when he went to lead the Joint Comedy. So he never got gut to form a party and challenged SLFP.

So far Dudley has not got into the politics. In that case the claim, behind the scene, he is or he is capable of splitting Brother Prince is has to be supported with hard evidences. No common sense leaders, who is in War Crime mess will be believing, leaving Old King not saved but save only Brother Prince and draw him to his side will make the that hurricane turn it course not to land on his land.
I thought, leaving at a point- but not predicting the outcome out of serious of competing misdirecting propagandas, would give you space yourself to parse and understand the article, along with what is really happing in the land. But you, appears to be, are crying when every time when Shaymon taking time to refill the spoon.

In this country most of the Political leaders come from feudal backgrounds
The Hamu status dominates while other leadership qualities become secondary
The likes of Shaymon J hail the Hamus whatever happens
    It is their mentality
A public servant is always better than a shy schoolboy who has not shown any outstanding performance from then till late in life other than to be god fathered by some influential family relative.
His third grade comment about Sirisena being a one time grama Sevaka shows his mentality
He appears to have forgotten the SL he lived in before where university graduates were either job less or employed in very Low ranks while nincompoop s and good for nothing Mr Beans were pushed up to high places due to political patronage
The country is very happy to have a man from the grass roots at the helm rather than card board heros created by the likes of Shaymons with lot of painting
Mr SJ seems to have forgotten the fact that his worshipped hero failed again and again to stand and rise up on his own against the odds to become an elected leader
Today he is there as the PM because of the sacrifice made by that great proletariat Sirisena and what is happening today is those who attempt to ride his back to have many bags full sorrounded with hooligans masquerading as clean mans supporters stand exposed beyond resurrection due to their cravings to rob the public in a mighty hurry!
Good that the likes of you have left us alone by migrating and pity the damages that may be caused to an advanced democracy where prime ministers ride a bicycle due to the mindsets subdued by outdated influences of such migrants

‘To implore the belly-ful God’, is not humour; it is disgusting journalism. I feel repulsed by your ignorance. You didn’t have to offend others to make your point. You are asking for a bellyful of criticism from Hindus.

What a shameless attempt to denigrate President Sirisena because he is taking on the battle against UNP corruption? The boot lickers have forgotten that they came to govern on the back of Sirisena who carried the ‘hero’ who lost 29 elections (Ranil’ge’ man). He did not know at the time that Ravi Karunanayake was a proven thief and Senasinghe will sell his grandmother to get ahead in politics. Ge Ranil is now left only with boot licker Simons who still owe him debts for past favours. They can bugger with Ranil.

Instead of governing the country with Yahapalanaya Sirisena is engaged in a power struggle. He promised that he will see that corruption will be ended and that the Rajapaksa will be put behind bars. However, as things are he has even failed to Mahindanadas, Rohithas, and the lot. Pathetic. Sirisena should forget the SLFP and work towards achieving what he promised. We did not vote for the SLFP or the UNP. We voted for Sirisena the COMMON CANDIDATE. You owe it to the 6.2+ million who voted you into this office. Sirisena you without any doubt digging your own grave.

    Shyamon Jayasinghe

So nice of you to update us with your post-visit take.

When has our president not been on a slippery slope?

Every Sri Lankan president takes office, watching his back, ducking and diving, looking out for all the slimy slippery buggers looking for the main chance. It is the first thing in his job description; keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer. All those many ministerial jobs are necessary to keep his supporters on side, with gravy. No ministerial job is given on the basis of competence, just on the degree of loyalty.

This has been the standard in the last twenty years and shows no sign of changing.

Politicians however principled they may be eventually fall trying to protect members of their families who misuse the “reflected” power. Even Robert Mugabe – that most astute of politicians who lasted for 40 years – finally fell because of his young wife’s ambitions. Mahinda has a full-time job trying to save his kith and kin from the State boarding house. The recent ferocious reactions of the President to certain criticisms indicates that the arrows have found their mark. Looks like a good man has been compromised once again by the actions of his kith and kin – and like the article says, he is now on a slippery slope.

How much more desperate can Jayasinghe get ? RW is no longer Mr Clean, but he is Mr Vision !

Me think Mr. Jayasinghe has better vision than RW. After all ,even after RW became PM Jayasinghe decided to stay put in Aussie land !

Surely you should credit us with more intelligence than this Mr Jayasinghe .

Someone has done a hurried trip to Colombo to grab his share of the loot before the whole yahapalana fiasco crashes down. Unfortunately there are paid hacks who will sell their motherland just for a handful of dollars. Pathetic. Old age should be better spent.

Shaymon Jayasinghe [Ranil is Mr. Vision]

Not when its come to his mate Arajuna Mahendran and rampant corruption he is blind as a Bat. I to was in Sri Lanka few weeks back what I observed is most people I spoke to agree MS RW cabal has taken the corruption one notch up to dismay & envy of Rajapaksa cabal.
If you have a chat with MS RW supporter’s they are willing to look the other way on corruption . Same apply to Rajapaksa supporter’s. One of the more hilarious comment that came from a Rajapaksa supporter was that if Rajapaksa was still in power Sri Lank would have pass Singapore by now.
