Monk Led Mob Threatens And Calls For The Arrest Of Woman Wearing Saree Bearing Buddha’s Face

A woman allegedly wearing a saree with prints of lord Buddha’s face was confronted by a mob led by a monk in Trincomalee yesterday. A video going viral shows two women with a child in the Trincomalee but stand comes under threat and was late taken into custody and later released according to reports.

The monk, when the woman confronted tries to explain in Tamil, threatens her to be quiet.

“You talk too much. Just shut up. You try to argue after wearing the offensive saree. If it was a man I would have thrashed him on the floor but since you are a woman I will not do such a thing,” the monk threatens.

The monk is then seen instructing the police officer who is present at the incident that they should arrest the woman and then produced before courts.

The video shared on social media shows the woman baffled as to the offence she has committed and further seeks forgiveness from the monk who says that no one can do as they please as this is a Sinhala Buddhist country and that he cannot just ignore such incidents.

In May this year another woman was arrested for wearing a Kaftan which was claimed to have the design of a Dharmachakra but was of a ship’s wheel.

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka considering a Fundamental Rights petition of Naomi Michelle Coleman, who was arrested and deported for having a tattoo of the Buddha on her arm, held that her arrest and deportation amounted to a violation of her Fundamental rights.

The woman in this recent incident had been taken to the Trincomalee police station and then later released after changing her clothes. According to sources, she was taken to the police ‘for her own safety’. (By Anuththara Singgapuli)

Perhaps the reporter’s ancestors came from CholaPandya (சோழபாண்டியா) kingdom.

The imprint on the woman’s saree has nothing to do with the Buddha.
The Buddha had nothing to do with Sri Lanka.
The baldie-hooligan has nothing to do with Buddhism.

          Ajay,

But the Para-Sinhala and other Para-clans that arrived illegally from Bharat before the arrival of Buddha, gradually transformed themselves into Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhists”, and claimed that their distorted and adulterated version of Buddhism is Pure Buddhism.

          Q. Why there are hardly any Tamil Buddhists in the Land?

Before the arrival of Buddhism, not Buddha.

If lord Buddha’s prints on sarees are an insult to Buddhism, how about Lord Buddha’s statues on roads and junctions with crow droppings on it.

        K.Anaga,

May be the Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhists” monks are afraid of the competition, Para-Sinhala “Buddhist” imbeciles, prostrating to women wearing sarees with the images of the Buddha or those wearing tattoos of the Buddha, instead of prostrating to the Para-Sinhala “Buddhist” Monks.

      K. Pillai,

” The Tamil lady should not have done what she did “

When did you become the Buddhist Sharia Quasi Judge in Lankawe?

Why in Colombo buses, frequently, Pottu wearing Hindu ladies are attacked? Is Pottu a Buddha symbol?

Can the customs confiscate those saris when they come from India, legally? If yes, please quote the provision from customs list. If not, please explain why they cannot prevent but only internally it cannot be worn.

Did Anagarika Dharmapala Made it as a rule that Buddhists should not wear a sari with Buddha? Who had made a rule that Ashoka Chakra(In Lankawe called Dharma Chakra) should not be on clothes? Is that wrong you print a shirt with Indian flag and attend a ceremony in Indian Embassy, Colombo?

Could you explain why that Tamil Hindu lady should not wear that Sari?

Please if your brain is falling into senile problem, understand that is normal, but do not support barbaric rowdyism as religion.
Ashoka took Cart Wheel as his symbol to campaign his country industrialized with agricultural activities and make it wealthy. Eventually some Buddhist Dharma Quasi judges made the Cart Wheel as Buddha Dharma Chakra. That is even worse than sanctifying Rajasingan’s “Pulipal” as Buddha’s tooth.

        3

        Mallaiyuran,

        “Rajasingan’s “Pullipal” as Buddha’s tooth” ?

Do you mean to say that the tooth is that of a Tiger, and not that of a dog, or human which the Sinhala -“ Buddhists” pay homage to, and the monks keep fleecing the innocents?

Can a Carbon dating or Calcium dating be done and settle this issue one and for all. Then the Temple can be called the Temple in the Hill. May be the monks may have plant a brace of the tree, Sri Maha Bodhi from Anuradapurs.

          Amare,

The Hindu Modayas believes that carrying a feline tooth in their till makes the money multiply. This is more essential for Trader and Ruling classes, who keep a till at home. Others keep in their jewelry box and treat it more holy and precise than their wives Thali Kodi. That is why Rajasingan had one with him. When the Monks demanded, he sent it to Temple, to parade. But it was his private property.

It is too holy substance for the box opened and tested. Alternate method of Some X-Ray tests possible; but not on Gold or Lead boxed materials. Gold and lead are elements with very thick atoms, absorbs all X- Ray Radiation. Even Alpha rays cannot penetrate them. So X-Ray cannot penetrate and make a negative.

Best and easy way is to call Mannar Judge who sent the mass murder site sample to Florida lab. The lab is certainly very good in adding years, and will date it as something coming out of Indus Valley artifacts.

          Amarasiri,

What about Shiva’s private parts, how does praying to a lingam make the woman fertile? Is this the Dravidian version of porno?

          • 2
            4

            CK,

If you do a statistically valid controlled experiment and get different groups of women to pray to Shiva Lingam and striking it, praying to a Buddha statue and stroking it, and praying to a tree and stroking it, then you will know the validity of each claim.

The women may become hot and ovulating, but the variable is going to be their husbands/partners.

No amount of praying will help is the husband is infertile

So, need to go to a statistically valid sample..

I entirely agree: the tamil woman was testing the patience of the Buddhist clergy to see how far she could go and get away with and certainly the Buddhist monk did not show much patience. there are now Muslim women who are trying to wear the niqab to see if they would be arrested or not. generally behind such people are activists who are testing the waters.

Buddhism is a philosophy based on the practicality of life, it has no God, heaven or hell.
it is a lesson in compassion and kindness which are also the two main pillars of the Buddhist philosophy. In Religion there is a prophet who claims to be the chosen one of God to impart His message to mankind. No one knows even the near likeness of God and his prophets or that of Gauthama Buddha, Gauthama mean revered and Buddha means the learned one, Being of royal birth he was known as Prince Siddartha from the kingdom of Kapilavasthu in Nepal, a country in the foothills of the world’s highest mountain, the Himalayas, and bordering India. Whether the Buddha visited India or Sri Lanka is debatable but his philosophy travelled far and wide.
Anyone can be a Buddhist disciple and still go along with their own faiths as they are two sides of the same coin.
I cannot see any reverence or significance to the Chakra ( wheel ) or popularly called the Asoka Chakra.
A wheel is a form of measurement which is a guide to direction or the beginning and end of a cycle. In the modern era the wheel in different forms is in our everyday common usage.
I have no idea how the wheel is depicted similar to ships’ steering wheel. Nepal is a landlocked country and a ships’ steering wheel is somewhat hazy but wheels of the horse or donkey-drawn carriages used during the Buddha’s period is more acceptable as it has been used as a form of measurement in ancient times.
Does anybody know the true or near resemblance of the Buddha. Also can someone explain why the monks are tonsured or clean-shaven of head hair? The accepted statues and pictures depict Buddha with curly hair and tied up like a “konde” which means the Buddha had long hair which questions as to why are monks head shaved.

      Seyed Niyaz Abdeen;
If you Shave your Head and all your Facial Hair, you will appreciate the Amount of Time wasted, in keeping that Hair in a Clean and Neat Condition!
As Prince Siddhartha Gautama, The Buddha would have had Attendants spending Hours and Money, tending to His Hair and Clothing!
It is no Wonder that the first thing the Buddha did was to cut off His Own Hair, and change into a Simple Robe! A Simple Razor would have helped Him to keep His Hair in order!

Why does the monk not abuse the chinese and tell them to get out? There are chinese have colonized chunks of the island and have their sign posts all across the island in chinese speak.Very few of them speak sinhala. English is used as the main medium to communicate with them on the island. So where is the outrage from the buddhist nationalists in SL?

These images on thesefamous Kalamkari sarees produced in Telengana are not the images of face of Lord Budda but the face of Mahaveer Jyanthi , a deity who is revered and worshiped in the Telugu land. It is the face of this deity’s idol that has been printed on these sarees. These are traditional sarees , woven traditionally using natural dyes . These dyes or colours are called Kalam and the person who performs this called Kar or Kari. Hence the saree is called KalamKari. The god Mahaveer Jyanthi is revered by the Telugu people and they do not consider it an indult but a way of honouring this god by printing his face on these traditional handloom sarees. Most Telugus are also Vaishnavites and they consider Lord Budda as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, therefore they give a lot of respect and prominence to Lord Buddha than even in so called Buddhist Sri Lanka. Remember the Telugu country was one of the cradles of ancient Buddhism.

for once you seem to be right. It is shocking how he resembles lord bhuddha and also his father is king siddartha. Now the question is did the telugus copy lord bhuddha or did the bhuddhists copy maveer jayanthi.Your opinion please.Facial image resemblance can be accident, the name siddartha in both coincidence, but when you state that telugu country was one of the cradles of ancient bhuddhism, then it becomes neither accident or coincidence but extends further into enemy action territory.Oops i forgot, both are supposed to be princes too.another coincidence?

Siddarth or Siddartha meaning the one who accomplished his goals in Sanskrit is a common name amongst Hindus and Lord Budda was a Hindu. So was Maveer’ father Lots of Tamil Hindus also have this name. I personally know of a few Jaffna Tamil Hindu Siddarth or Siddarthas. Most probably now Sinhalese Buddhist Fascists will want to ban this name in the island stating it is an insult to Lord Budda. This name has existed long before Lord Buddah was born.

Thullukan . Pillayar or Gansha’s statues were under Bo trees or Arasa Maram in Tami and worshiped there , long before , Hindu Lord Budda or Prince Siddartha was born. The Bo tree is sacred to Hindus and you will find Bo trees in the premises of many Hindu temples. This is why it is called Arasa Maram in Tamil meaning the king of the trees. Hindu Lord Budda also considered the Bo tree sacred, just like all other Hindus and this is why he sat under to Bo Tree to attain enlightenment. Lord Budda is not a Nepali but an Indian Hindu prince , who was born just over the border of what is now considered Nepal. 2500 years ago there was no Nepal and this area belonged to an Indian Hindu kingdom. He would have spoken Maghadi or Magadhi Prakrit , that was the language of the Indian kingdom of Maghadi not Nepali ( if it existed at that time) . Have you seen the Nepali from the plains , bordering India, they look very Indian . Maghadi . Stop posting nonsense . You fake Arab South Indian origin converted low caste

Here you go with that ‘low caste’ talk again. Caste system is a curse. If Sinhalese really are ‘low caste’ converts then maybe it was your karma for your arrogant jaffna caste loving community to get oppressed by Sinhalese today? Has that ever occurred to you?

Fake Tamil Jega , the Thullukan was deliberately insulting all Tamils and Hindus , like he always does. However this does not bother you but you start attacking Shiva Shankaran about caste. As being a Brahmin he is an easy target, compared to the rest of us . What has he stated that is derogatory about caste? He only stated the truth about actual origin of the Sri Lankan Muslims , that they are descened largely from low caste Hindu Tamil converts. Stating the truth is not an insult, as these South Indian origin Thullkans, constantly attack Tamils and run them down , despite being of Tamil ethnicity . on the myth that they are of Arab descent, therefore superior to the largely Dravidian origin Tamils and Sinhalese. They suffer from an inferiority complex with regards to their actual origin , so in their stupid minds think , claiming an Arab ancestry is better and superior to their largely low caste converted Tamil ancestry. Shiva Shankaran is only pointing the truth of their stupidity. This also does not seem to bother you. Even a Muslim Borah has posted an article regarding the true origin of the Sri Lankan Muslims . The same with regards to most Sinhalese. Most of them are indeed , descended from largely low caste Indian Tamil immigrants but claim to be Aryan and attack Tamils again on the basis of this imagined Aryan origin. Someone pointing out the obvious truth is not an insult. If you think being descended from a low caste is an insult and bad then it is your problem and not Shiva’s . You are also suffering from an inferiority complex and attacking the messenger. Go get a life fake Tamil Jega.
Noticed you did not attack the Ceylonee when started to say all sorts of derogatory racist insults with regards to all

Thullukan was a derogatory term given by the Malayali to ethnic Tamil Muslims who migrated from Tamil Nadu and lived in Kerala for centuries. They largely lived in South Kerala . Native Malayali Muslims, who largely hailed from central and north Kerala , were called Mappilas. Derived from the Tamil word Mapillai ( Son in law) . Many of these Thullukans were forced to migrate from Kerala to Sri Lanka, as the Malayalis did not want them in their lands. This name stuck to them. Low caste converted Thullkans loved to wear the Turkish Fez cap and be associated with the pre first world war Turkish Ottaman empire and claim to be part of them , just like they now want to claim to be part of the Arabs , despite the Arabs stating Thullkans are actually converted South Asians, Soothirana Untouchables. This is why the name Thullakan was given to them .
Vellalar and other upper Tamil castes, as well as other upper South Indian castes like the Nairs, Chetties, Reddy, Naicker etc are called Saath Shudra meaning pure or clean Shudra, They position was equal to the Kshatriya or Vaishya Varna classification in North India. Eg: Vellalar/Naicker/Nair/Reddy will be Kshatriya and Chetty will be a Vaishya however not your low caste , untouchable ancestors, they were impure and untouchable Shudra. NOt that the ruling upper castes in South India accepted Happy, When was India under the Turkish empire? Thukkukan? In your wet dream? Little knowledge makes Indian origin Ceylonee very very stupid .

If Sri Lanka is a land where Buddhism thrived more than in land of where Gautama Buddha born & lived. It is land where Buddhism is going to killed, simply because the core of Buddhist doctrine is misconstrued by the mass, including the monks. The mass just follow the saffron robed monks whom are mostly illiterate and from poor background. It is for survival they join the so called “saint hood”, free food and other pleasure seeking activities, all for free. No need to sweat for anything.
The question is how the intellectual mass puts up with this. If there any “Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero”?

One simple question. Has any of these Sinhale morons or anyone for that matter seen Lord Buddha or at least a photo of him? What a bunch of BIGGOTS. I was in Polonnaruwa recently. It was about 8 pm and we were walking close to GalVihare. Suddenly we heard the most vile and foul language being screamed at a Muslim family with two small children walking through the Vihara grounds. Obviously foreigners admiring our history. The reason for the abuse was that these people had their slippers on. They were ignorant of the fact that they were in sacred premises. It was a shocking attack as they had no idea why they were being abused until another visitor pointed out to their footwear which they immediately removed and profusely apologised to this vile man who kept up the abuse for a few more minutes. I’m glad they could not understand the language but the kids in my group did. Is this what the Buddha thaught? No. It’s what the so called Sri Lankan Pseudo Buddhist monks teach us. Who was the greater sinner on the day? The ignorant innocent Muslim family or the biggot who used foul language in a sacred place? Same as the mob who attacked this ignorant woman.

CK, lingam and yoni worship is like worshiping the power of life. It is where basically life starts. Our entire life in centred round lingam and yoni. Without both no life, no race not even Buddha. So it is a mark of respect like how we worship our parents, sun, moon, water, wealth, food, etc., to name a few. All these go to form life’s existence.

Incidentally they have some facts about the so called Dutte Gamini’s shroud but it is kept a secret because it is a con. Buddha’s tooth too is mere imagination and not a fact like Siri Pada. These blind faiths and beliefs may be harmless provided they don’t try to con and try to be superior and create bogus history.

There seem to be a significant proportion of the Buddhist clergy who are now aspiring to a higher status than mere ‘venerable’ and are actively joining the ranks of the political class, which has now acquired infamy as a parasitic group of corrupt rascals. This is evident in the many forays of their kind into mainstream political issues that concern community relations, criminality, ethnicity, religion and so on. The behaviour of the saffron-clad man in the video brings much shame to ordinary Buddhists who follow the Buddha’s sublime teaching of pacifism and tolerance, equanimity and joy of giving. The clerical hierarchy must take punitive action against these people, if the police feel they’re above the law. Otherwise, ordinary Sri Lankans will be reviled around the world, for how they treat their own people.

Sharma, one can take a horse to water but cannot make it to drink. Your explanation about Bo tree is perfect but the guys who cook up history will not understand that. In the north of India the two most shade providing trees are Bo Tree and Banyan tree. First is Ficus religiosa and the other ficus bengalansis. As the name goes bo tree related to Hinduism and Buddhism while the latter (Aala Maram in Tamil) from the region of Bengal. For some one to rest from the Indian summer heat they have to sit under one of these two trees. Other tree Ficus Glomeratum (Athi kai in Tamil ) is uncommon in the north of India. Occasionally there are “Rain tree”, Enterolobium Saman ( Nilal Vahai) in Tamil but yet it is less common. This is very common in SL. The rest are mostly shrubs and thorny plants. Invariably Bo tree and Banyan (Aala maram) co exist due to birds excreta spreading the fruits and seeds. One who travels widely in the north of India will see this. Buddha was born in Lumbini, a town close to present day Uttara Pradesh, located in the present day Nepal. Of course as you said no Nepal then. Nepal is an ancient Hindu kingdom, even today the same. Buddha died in Ayodya, a town in northern part of UP close to Nepal border. This is also the location of King Rama and the kingdom. I really do not know why our Sinhala brothers turn and twist the history and thus create bitterness and worst distort Buddhism and its origin. Buddha died of probably pork curry poisoning in Ayodya. Or may have died of enteritis or even MI. Unless we look at this world with honesty truth will always be hidden and worst ignorance will prevail.
