A mosque in the Colombo suburb of Dehiwela that was ordered to stop issuing the call to prayer and conducting prayers in its premises by the Kohewela police two days ago was stoned last night, according to Muslim politicians and residents in the area.
The Masjidul As Shafee at Kadawatha Road in Kohuwela was stoned last night but police had arrived promptly to provide security, sources told Colombo Telegraph.

Earlier this week officers from the Kohuwela Police station entered three mosques in the Dehiwala Area and instructed the religious leaders to stop conducting prayers and issuing the call to prayer five times a day.
Minister Rishard Bathiudeen intervened in the affair and notified the Acting IGP Gamini Navaratne and the DIG of the Western Province Anura Senanayake about the developments after residents informed him of the interference, the BBC reported.
Both Minister Bathiudeen and former Deputy Mayor of Colombo Azath Salley both visited the mosque after the attack.
The three mosques visited by the Police earlier this week were the Dehiwala Attidiya Majibul Hiba, the Masjidul As Shafee at Kalubowila and the Dehiwala Tharul Muslim Centre. It is not immediately clear why the police visited these mosques to make the request.
Meanwhile in Galle, a Muslim owned Jewellery store was torched late last night.

KANCHEEPURAM: Every day at 6am, the seers at the world-famous Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham in Kancheepuram are up and about, getting ready for their gaja puja — prayers for the elephants housed on the premises. Around the same time, the muezzin at the Sunnath Jamaath Jumma Masjid next door can be heard calling to the faithful for the morning namaz.
While the priests at the Peetham go about chanting their slokas, the prayers go on at the mosque next door simultaneously. One does not stop for the other nor disturb the other. The prayers continue in unison. The prayers begin with clockwork precision every day and are a celebration of the harmonious coexistence of two religions.
“It’s been this way since I took over as the Shankaracharya in 1984,” says Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the 69th pontiff of the Peetham.
“I think it is most beautiful and unique to hear both the namaz calls and the suprabhatham at the same time,” says the 76-year-old seer. In nine years, Rukmini Raman, 70, has almost never missed a day of bhajans at the Peetham. She is at the mandapam at the crack of dawn, ready to sing as the main pontiff goes about his morning pujas. “While singing I can hear the muezzin’s call and for me it’s beautiful,” she says.
It is not just in the mornings that the pujas and prayers coincide. It happens in the afternoon, then again at 4.30pm, and finally at 6.30pm. “We share four of the five prayer timings,” says the pontiff with a smile.
Every day, around 500 people pass through the gates of the Peetham. The mosque has around the same number of visitors too, except on Fridays when the crowds at both places treble as Friday is a holy day for Muslims, while the Peetham has two special pujas.
Crowds or no, it has never been a problem coexisting next to each other, says Mullah Rizwan Sahib of the mosque. “We never get in each other’s way. We do not disturb the other’s proceedings and it is wonderful to carry on side by side like this.” Each religion, says Jayendra Saraswathi, has its own beauty and charm and it is good to understand them. “You will find this harmony only here in Kancheepuram,” he adds, perhaps alluding to the verdict on the Ayodhya issue which is due soon.

If clerics in Muslim mosques wanted to call their followers to prayer they should do so through SMS or an FM channel or phone calls or some other means. Because when they howl five times a day through hooters it becomes an absolute nuisance to other people in the neighbourhood. When few Muslims come to a new area they quietly start a mosque but never even make any noise let alone hooters. However, when they breed like rabbits and increase their numbers and overwhelm the area they introduce hooters without any consideration for others. Why? I believe it is to tell others that they are on their way to make Sri Lanka a Muslim country. It won’t be long before we have to follow sharia. Hooters must be banned for everything other than occasional functions.

“We have since found that N.M. Shaheed, an attorney-at-law commissioned by the SLMC to make representations to this commission of inquiry specifically sought for compensation to be paid to the late M.H.M. Ashraff’s mother as well.
Amazingly, the SLMC lawyers did not see it fit to seek compensation for the families of any of Ashraff’s security personnel and party loyalists who died with the SLMC Chief on that fateful helicopter ride.
Even if the commission of inquiry by its terms and references were bound to recommend compensation only for the Ashraff family, surely the SLMC could have pushed the government over the last three years to pay some kind of gratuity to the families of those men who died while on duty with the late leader.
That this had not even been considered is indeed a damning indictment on Rauf Hakeem, Ferial Ashraff and the SLMC.
Meanwhile, Justice Weerasekara took offence when asked if he had been under any pressure to allocate such unprecedented sums of monies to the Ashraff family when other VIP war widows have been paid a maximum of only Rs. 600,000, including the widow of a former president of Sri Lanka.[ MIKE, HAVE A LOOK AT THE COMPENSATION LIST GIVEN BELOW]
“Never in my life have I been asked such a question or my integrity brought into doubt,” Weerasekara thundered, asserting his reputation remains impeccable and he has never at any stage bowed to any kind of pressure, political or otherwise.
He refused to comment when quizzed further and asked if in view of national interest his report should be made available to the public.
NOTE THIS : “Justice Weerasekara also refused to divulge details of attributing causes for the crash, which killed Ashraff and many others asserting that it is the President’s prerogative to do so if she so wishes.”
Amman Ashraff, the only son of the late SLMC Leader when contacted refused to make any comment on this issue saying it is up to his mother to do so, if she so wishes.
Other war widows compensation
The other war widows whose compensation monies are negligible next to that allocated to Ferial Ashraff and her family:
Srimani Athulathmudali was given Rs. 600,000 after her husband Lalith Athulathmudali was gunned down at Kirulapone in April 1993.
Hema Premadasa, wife of the late President R. Premadasa said she too was paid Rs. 600,000 as compensation after her husband was brutally assassinated on May 1, 1993.
Dulanjalee Jayakody, daughter of President Premadasa reiterated bitterly that the government at the time did not even bother to conduct a proper investigation into her father’s killing. [NOW READ THIS WELL :] “It is easy to say the LTTE killed him. But who ordered a military bowser to rush to the scene of the killing and hurriedly wash away all the evidence?” she queried.
“Unlike the late SLMC Leader, to conduct a full investigation into the murder of my father,” Dulanjalee asserted “would reveal too many secrets within government – that would be damning – this is why to date my father’s assassination remains a mystery.”
Both Dulanjalee and Hema Premadasa pointed out that while they were not interested in the quantum of compensation monies paid “it is the principle that matters and in this context it is ludicrous to pay Ferial Ashraff and sonRs. 7 million.”
Srima Dissanayake, wife of the late UNP Leader and Presidential Candidate Gamini Dissanayake said that she too was paid Rs. 600,000 as compensation by the Social Services Department.
“I don’t think it is at all fair that Ferial Ashraff is to be paid Rs. 5 million as compensation for her husband’s killing. What about all those widows who have been left destitute as a result of losing their husbands to terrorism? I firmly believe that the government should make allocations to pay all of them the same amount of Rs. 5 million each,” Srima Dissanayake asserted.
Lali Kobbekaduwa, widow of the charismatic Army General Denzil Kobbekaduwa said she was paid a mere Rs. 75,000 as compensation following her husband’s tragic death. This amount, she said is according to service regulations “which we have to go by – we have no other choice.”
Lali Kobbekaduwa explained that all widows of soldiers, irrespective of their husbands’ rank during their lifetime, are paid Rs. 75,000 compensation if killed while on duty.
Manel Wimalaratne, wife of the late Brigadier Vijaya Wimalaratne posthumously promoted to Major General, also received only Rs. 75,000 as compensation when her husband died tragically with General Kobbekaduwa.
Her son and daughter did not receive any compensation monies as both children were over 18 years old at the time their father was killed. In the event they had been under 18 they would have received a sum of Rs. 75,000 as compensation. “

I think the government should form an inter-religious body to formulate minimum standard requirements for places of worship. All small places should be closed down or converted in to hospitals and schools or vocational training centers etc. Converting lands and houses supposed to be used for dwelling purpose in to places of worship should be stopped in Sri Lanka. Using loudspeakers in all the places of worship also should be stopped.

it is a well known fact that Sri Lanka is a Majority Sinhala Buddhist Country and every one knows that and people respect that, including Christians, Hindu’s, Muslims and Tamils.
However, the extreme nature and the Thuggery attitude shown by BBS and other extreme groups like Ravaya is not the proper reflection of thousands years of Buddhist preaching.
What is disturbing is that the representatives of these extreme groups are thugs, drunkards and drug addicts. When the poverty level of the country increase the poor has no choice but to look at joining extreme forces like this. Unfortunately this also has the politically motivated backing by few including arms dealers and drug mafias who has other motives to create confusion and chaos in beautiful country like Sri Lanka where multi communities from Christianity, Hindusm, Islam and Tamils along with Sinhalese Buddhist have lived side by side.
