Mr President, Hang Him Or He Will Hang You

By Granville Perera

President Rajapaksa’s attempt to re-enter high office through parliament spells doom for the fragile coalition that has evolved after the Presidential elections of 2015. Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe probably doesn’t command the majority in parliament as is evident from the 114 signatories to the John Amaratunga no confidence motion presented by the UPFA. This probably is the beginning of the end of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinge’s short-lived premiership and dissolution of parliament is inevitable. A section of the SLFP and leftist parties of the UPFA would propel Mahinda Rajapaksa to make his bid for the next premiership.

Mahinda MatugamaRemember, President Rajapaksa is a street fighter who would not rest until he has finished you off, for being the traitor that he considers you to be, for eating his hoppers and betraying. You may both be rural boys, but the game he would play is no Elle. He knows to play only with fire when you would, at the most consider throwing a pebble.

President Rajapaksa cannot live without the pomp and pageantry of high office that he got used to during the last 10 years. He had 3000 crack commandos guarding him not because he genuinely felt the threat to his life, but like every dictator, this was his form of intimidating everyone around him. From a lovable character to a monster, is what he turned out to be during his two-term presidency, and it is not just for himself that he amassed such brutal power and wealth, but also for his entire family. The greedy Basil Rajapaksa amassed all the wealth for the family, the violent Gotabaya Rajapaksa became the most feared killer, the playboy Namal Rajapaksa had all the young chicks under his Nil Balakaya to fill his modern day harem and the trigger hungry Yoshitha Rajapaksa adorned the naval ribbons, medals, badges and pins which no other mortal could have worn in his rank and the little Chicchi brat who drove around in illegally imported best brand motor vehicles in races where no one else should win. 10 years of such pleasure cannot be given up, not because of a usurper from Polonnaruwa as he considers you to be. What he failed in his attempted coup would be achieved in the next election, unless you ensure that Sri Lanka will not have the repeat of his curse.

The casino kings, drug and ethanol dealers who thrived during his presidency would propel him to the premiership with the support of the bootlicking leftist stooges who cannot survive without the ministerial privileges they enjoyed during the last 10 years of the Rajapaksa presidency. It is disgraceful that a son of Phillip Gunawardena, the ‘Lion of Boralugoda’ (‘Boralugoda Sinhaya’) too has become a kitten in the Rajapaksa home.

The threat to the current presidency of Sirisena is real and Mahinda Rajapaksa certainly has the capacity to act decisively. His brutal ability and craving for absolute power was well exposed when he got General Sarath Fonseka arrested and carried out of his abode by petty soldiers, who would not have dared to stand in front of him only a few weeks before. What was his crime? He was harbouring deserters from the Army. Today, Mahinda Rajapaksa could be charged for harbouring a naval deserter in Yoshitha Rajapaksa. The same yardstick could be used to charge him for the same crime as Sarath Fonseka. Is president Sirisena chickening out because of the huge fear he had of his dictator, when he was Mahinda Rajapaksa’s General Secretary. No, Mr President, you wield the same powers as he did, and your firm resolve to act will save yourself from the gallows that would be in store for you, should you not act decisively.

The people of this land did not vote you because you had the ability to govern us out of the tyranny that was unleashed by the Rajapaksa clan, but because you became the symbol of change. Ranil Wickremesinghe who has the ability to get the country on the road to recovery would never have been a winner.

It is time that you pulled out the real files of the Rajapaksa clan and cleansed this country of their brutal era – for good. It is time that the platform promises of bringing the corrupt and plundering Rajapaksas’ to justice are delivered by you. Failure to act now will make you face the possibility of becoming a lame duck president held hostage by a hostile parliament under Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Even if he doesn’t win a majority, he will, with his ill gotten wealth buy over crossovers, as he did in his last term as President and make your life miserable.

Mr President, you need to make the choice of ridding the Rajapaksa plague, and not just for your sake, but for the majority of Sri Lankans’ who gave you the Presidential seat to drive away the Rajapaksa clan for ever. We pray that you will not betray us.

Well, every second counts Jim. Already, he is playing the sympathy card. Ada Derana had a headline “mahinda Goes to Jail” when he visited the rouge Tissa in the prison hospital. It had the biggest hit ever. If action is not taken immediately, he would generate sympathy as the government is pussyfooting the criminal charges. It is time Ranil is sent home and Rajitha, Champika or Anura Kumara is seated at the helm of parliament to permanently unseat the Rajapaksa clan from any political activity

It is truly a amazing that 67 years, “Appe Aanduwa” has degenerated to this state of affairs where some people are clamoring to hang the former president Rajapakse.

Watch out all those who advocate hanging him!

When Mahinda comes back, which he is for sure, as Ranil and Maitri have promised to protect him for his services to the country, he will hire white vans from Gota and transport those clamoring to kill him to Heaven!

What a disgraceful proposition from an old advocate of democracy and good governance!

So denying the majority people’s choice (as was done on 8 Jan) is your version of democracy, “Granville”? You think your version of sectoral vested interest deserves to be imposed on the rest of us who hate the values you represent and the UNP as a cobra would detest “undukola”.

      Shame on your hypocrisy.

      Dear madam CBK ,

since we are having identical two gentleman brothers (MY3 and RW)at the helm nothing drastic can be expected , despite MY3 being the president of SL he will always be your obedient “Golaya” and certainly more than willing to listen to your advice ,hence let me put forward few straight requests for you to consider in implementing ASAP.

      1) Getting rid of newly appointed Rajapakse stooge ,defense Secretary (Basnayake something ).
      2) Getting rid of newly appointed Rajapakse lackey ,crook , president Secretary (Attanayake something)
      3) Getting rid of the current army commander , Navy commander and the air force commander.
4)to have an accelerated inquiry of the alleged coup attempt by MR.
      5) a special commission needs to be in place to find out Gotabaya’s all the financial irregularities , extra judicial killings , abuse of power .

as the author correctly identifies , the danger of going back to dark , old Rajapakse days are getting closer , there are enough grass eating two legged bulls/cows waiting in SL to hand over the steering wheel back to MR to drive all of us to living hell again , Dear CBK , you are the only hope , please act swiftly.

PS: it has been reported that Ranil was willing to negotiate with Mohan peris to relinquish his duties for a diplomatic post , this is the exact style which Ranil would see to solve burning problems , we don’t need any back room deals , let Ranil run the economy and stay from the law & order.

” , there are enough grass eating two legged bulls/cows waiting in SL to hand over the steering wheel back to MR “

Your derision for the Sri Lankan citizens is known. It is their country and it is upto them to ELECT whoever they wish to lead them forward, not yours alone (even if you live in Sri Lanka).

Ha ,Ha …… you seem to be getting really worried about the democracy , don’t you ?

If we to go by your theory , Today MR would be running the country for the unprecedented 3 rd time , wouldn’t he ? it didn’t happen , precisely because ,informed citizens didn’t let the grass eating majority to lead us , all the right thinking people came forward and volunteered themselves to educate the illustrate ones , as a direct result of that , all Sri lankan people are reaping the benefits , as expected those who were solely depending on Rajapakses and other racist scums were badly hit by the new regime , bad luck my friend , all the Rajapakse stooges will have to find a new way to survive , that stupid old slogans ” western conspiracy , Tamil Diaspora , Mawbima , Deshappremi ” etc bullshit won’t work anymore !

With more than 50% voters and more than 100 MPs in parliament supporting Mahinda Rajapakshe, it looks like Ranil Wickramasinghe will be a Prime Minister only for 100 days.

Granville Perera should be commended for this timely article. Both Maithree and Ranil should read this. Most people were speculating this may happen but nobody bothered to write. This should be considered as an Urgent warning.

In the case of a coalition (especially a national government), the President should have the right to decide/appoint the Prime Minister. It may or may not be from the party that wins the majority votes. Do not wait till April to amend the constitution and expedite the process of bringing all the culprits to book before the election.

My prediction is that Ranil will survive this and also be the next prime minister. Mahinda will not contest, but may come on a national list if the loud mouth Wimal can make it.

No, wait and see – we dont need Astrologers to predict – if CID would do the job properly, let alone from today – Duminda will have to reveal long held secrecies. One behind the other, each of them will be seen as connected to Mahinda Rajapakshe s direct mediaton through his brother with executionist mentality-Gotabaya. There this march or courage will have to be ended. So, in between Interpol would have to address issue directly with Basil for the funds that he intentioally abused from the treatury – 3 trillions or more- to be gotten back through sale of all his properties in the US. SYNERGY OF ALL THHES WILL HAVE TO KEEP MAHINDA FROM BEING JOINED TO ACTIVE POLITICS.

Shoot First, or be shot at.

Question: what are the crimes for which Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa is responsible for, and a line goes to him?

      Prove it and punish him?

If he is free, let him go, and let those directly responsible be punished.

Of course, he is ultimately responsible, and he was well aware of the the crimes vcom, mred, and who committed.

Did Eichman know? Dis Hitler know? Did stalin Know?

Did Mahinda Rajapaksa know? at least we know what Velupilllai Prabakaran knew.

Granville Perera sounds like a hard core supporter of the UNP Christian Faction lead by the current PM Ranil Wickremasinghe.

I am glad Sira’s brother has unlocked CT Website,

Now the few Sinhala Buddhists who were mislead by the Abiththaya will start thinking about our inhabitants future.

I mean the future of the great majority of the inhabitant population who didn’t want Ranil Wickremasinghe. and his Golayas, Galleon Ravi, Taylor Boy, Kiriella an Alfonsa Leo to fuq up what ever little they now have in their villages and town centres, thanks to Rajapaksas….

      Mr Sumanasekera,

Please leave out religion. What you have said is offensive even to others.

The discussion at hand did not merit the response you gave. We live in an enlightened age. Let us not refer to caste, race, creed, religion or status of a person when we can easily refer to the case in hand without such reference.

Each of those types – different caste, different religion, has a right to live in this land, if he is a citizen. That is the country we need, that is the way forward, that is the balm to heal all wounds.

It would be a victory for civilized behavior and conduct if we can learn to accept logic, and not be partisan or extremist in our thinking or sayings. In case you are wondering, I am a Buddhist and a follower of the most compassionate and enlightened one and I totally reject your uncalled for comment.

I don’t know Ranil Wickremasinghe from Adam, and you may not like him, but would you or would you not agree that he is light years ahead of any other, now in parliament?

If someone is good at his job, for God’s sake let us give him the chance to perform. That is not as a favour for such persons but only because this country deserves the best in the right places. We have wasted long years precisely because we didn’t do so and now everyone around us is overtaking us.

Just think where we were in 1948 and where we are now. That is, if you are capable of logical thinking devoid of emotion.

If you don’t agree with what I have said of Ranil W, just compare the incumbent Prime Minister with his predecessor. Is there even the remotest possibility of a comparison?

C’mon, let’s give the devil its due!

      Mr. KA Sumanasekera,

When you cant digest the fact that MR is a cunning politician who will carry one what the author suggest, you seems to immediately pull the trump card. THE TRUMP CARD YOU AND YOUR LIKABLE PLAYED ALL THESE YEARS ARE ” RELIGION and ETHNIC” cards. IT is so sad that you people are not changed even in the 21st Century. Everyone is human and there is only two religion. The RIGHT and the WRONG.

Did the gods of Buddha and the Gods of Jesus know how to design a man with 46XX or 46XY chromosome in the hell or heaven ?

We created these religion and we kill people for the name of unknown GODS.

Try to be a HUMAN at least.

Sumanasekera, the telecommunication regulatory authority is not under Sri Lanka Telecom as you assume. Sirisena’s good governance appointment of his brother to chair telecom has nothing to do with unblocking websites in Sri Lanka. This has been done because CT and other sites were the only source the opposition had to voice their dissent to the murderous Rajapaksas. Gota ensured that every newspaper was silenced. The took over Tiran, and the Fredica’ by getting Asanga to buy the Sunday leader. It is time that the government investigates the wealth of Asanga Seneviratne, how he took over the Sunday leader and Hevelocks spots club etc. These were not Asanga’s money, but Rajapaksa look recycled and white washed to make their loot legitimate. First and foremost, the navy boy should be arrested for deserting. That will hurt the street thug and then take madam for stealing the gold of our Thamil brethren. That will start the ball rolling for the Rajapaksas to save their souls and run for their lives. The VAT commissioner got 102 years for stealing 4 billion. The rajapaksa’s stole over 400 billion. Work out how many hundred years they deserve behind rusty bars.

I fully agree with the author of this article.

Underestimating the ex-dictator would be a fatal mistake. Sri Lanka made a similar mistake with VP. We know the consequences.

Criminal bullies of Rajapssa’s nature must be dealt with decisicely and quickly.

Lack of urgency shown by the new GOSL on dragging in Rajapassa himself & his criminal entourage is to commit Harakiri.

Sri Lanka must not short-change the magnificient revolution we just achieved. Against all odds.

Ex-dictator is busy manipulating already. He is bloody good at it. Meanwhile, RW is busy backroom deal making and horse trading.

Prosecute Rajapassa, his criminal clan, cronies & henchmen now. Period.

    Cheers!

    Hang on Granville,

Before we hang MARA, shouldn’t we take a good look at ourselves. It is we who voted this monster to power. Don’t you think we need to be hung first before we hang him. At least shouldn’t we hang our heads in shame in puttig our trust in this Tsunami hora who stole the money from the pathetic hands of helpless tsunami children.

I agree with you Granville, MARA is not finished yet. Our culturally backward ‘wakutu veyang’ society need tyrants and tyanny so that they could wakutufy to the utmost. There is a very real chance that MARA will be drummed back to power again as ours is the society that fits the proverbial, ‘gahanna gahanna wandina ekas’.

Well said. Good governance could be done after you first rid of these rouges and their henchmen from top to bottom who had infested the polit and state systems. He should have sacked all the political appointments first, cause they never expect to stay. Then install good system with good people. And then start Yaha palanaya. While keeping these cancerous people inside the government organizations is a hindrance to the forward motion of parliament. At least during first 100 days he should exercise the executive powers to do the necessary changes. I am sure Chandrika gets this danger lurking in the shadows. But John is in the bag with MR regime. Since he scurries the water for his leader by his own actions.

The government seems to be too slow in action to pin down Rajapakse and his siblings on charges of corruption and other crimes. This slowness will surely pave the way for his return to power in no time. The government should ACT and should lose no more time to do so!

If the Parliament is dissolved then the President should appoint an interim government and govern until April 23rd. During which time the President Maithreepala should appoint a Presidential Commission and investigate corruption of the Ex-President, his brothers, sons, wife and the Senior Ministers of Rajapakse regime. This should be done.

Well written, couldnt agree you more. The 114 signatures tells it all, what was to expect.

As you wrote, it is very very hard to forgo all the things MR and Co had used to. Every minutes are cruicial, unless their shaddy deals and hidden money were brought out made public for people to see and charged, they didnt know. Leaving for 100days to pass thinking effect of such action might get some smpathy votes to MR would only help him gain popularity, as common folks dont know.

The momemnt the election is declared, the playing field at level, open media is there to put whatever every one says, and he will put out twisted stories as if he had evidence that MS and USA/UN haveformulated an agreement, only waiting for this election to end and to hand over him to Hague and etc. His political shrewedness has no limits nor fairness. No doubt, he will hang you all, under treason. Dont blink. Prision/Malakada is still a posibility.

Had MR won you Mr President would be behind bars. Is there a sinister motive for your inaction?.. There is ample evidence of corruption at a massive scale and you do nothing. The people of Sri Lanka voted for you to get rid of the Rajapakse regime once and for all and you do sweet nothing. If one Bribery Commissioner cannot handle the numerous cases appoint many retired judges and get them done as soon as possible. This should have been done on the first day you were elected. At the moment you look a lame President. I am sure people who voted for you must be wondering what the bloody hell is going on.

This New King, when he came though Ranil, that the old King willing to surrender power in exchange for Ranil’s cheating of the investigation, said that the airport will be closed to make sure the Old King is not escaping. But the things changed, right after that. He promised to the Old King his fate will be decided by the SLFP party, not by any courts. Ranil said to James Porter even not to think about coming to Lanka. The same man authorized the Chinese government to build a new Casino Island, where Lankan Sinhala Intellectual will be needed Visa to go. Chinese Yuvan can buy anybody! Soon people will be praying the Old King to come back and remove the New King to save them. Finishing him can become detrimental who advocate for that.

Friends, it is no secret that the present government has to work with the corrupt machinery available. Can they get rid of them overnight? Besides, some of those writing here criticize the steps taken against Mohan Peiris. Police force is number one when it comes to corrupt officials. We can see the lethargic attitude of the Police Department in dealing with the Drug Mafia in Sri Lanka even after collecting sufficient evidence against a Prominent MP and a former IG. Then there is a case of submitting fraudulent documents to obtain two Passports by the wife of Big Talker Weerawansa. There are a large number of Complaints pending in the Bribery Commission whose Chairman, a well known Rajapakse henchman, has even a complaint against him not probed yet.

It will be a sad day for the country, when those who embezzled, cheated, and got away with their ill gotten gains, are back in power, and this time with a vengeance. It will be back to square one, and the end of this country. Racial tensions, silencing of the media, luxury cars, citizens missing, national airlines losing billions, and our debts to China mounting like the Himalayas, back again. We would be seen as foolish citizens, if we voted for these criminals again.

There is every legal recourse to send the entire clan to gallows. There is enough evidence on the killings at temple trees by MARA, and the brutal murders by GOTA, and the killing of the lovable ruggerite by Yoshitha for a stinking pussy. Why on earth are the people not getting on to the streets to bring justice to the people who were victimized by the entire rajapaka clan

Mr, Perera, i believe you are a responsible journalist. But firstly, there’s only one President now, It’s President Maithripala. in this case, MR should be the Former President ( refer your article again) Secondly, if this so called “Bad guy: MR” had done all bad to the country, but no good, i wonder how we still survive in this country with no fear ( at least last 5 years). Thirdly, if the current government & the current president is the so called “good guy” who brings the so called “good governance” tot his country, I believe there’s no way he will hang him…People toppled the government for a change, not to repeat what the former regime did. So pls be a responsible journalist, citizen & a human, before you expose anything baseless!

    • 0
      3

Harshini, MR should still be addressed as President Rajapaksa and so would be for Chanrika. So, no issues in calling him President. Good governance does not mean you have to forget all the bad that has gone past. Every bit of it needs to be inquired in to and those responsible punished so that there would bot be a repeat of it by anyone. The only way to do is not take the law in to your own hands and deliver jungle justice as was done by MR and GR, Proper mechanisms need to be installed and due process should be followed. In the case of Maithri-Ranil duo, they are slow at setting up the process.

  • 3
    0

You can hang him or do any thing after the due process of the law takes place on the allegations made. Sirisena must not make the same mistake of abusing executive powers as MR allegedly has done. Two mistakes do not make a right. Sirisena has already created doubts on his credibility towards good governance and use/misuse of executive powers by appointing RW as PM and the reinstalling of the CJ Shirani and sacking of CJ Mohan. Good governance must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Political vengeance must not be the hall mark of Sirsena. He should be different and that is what we expected from the change. Unfortunately he is under pressure from his backers for various things.

Mr President are you digging your own grave ?

Rajpaksa is a man who will take revenge on you ,and all those who were responsible for his defeat with lethal venom,if he comes to power again, there is no doubt about it.

The people gave you the victory ,so that ,there will be peace and freedom for all communities, in Srilanka.
If you are complacent you are breaking the trust the masses placed on you.
So keep the trust and rule with a iron hand.

If Rajapaksa had won just imagine where you ,Chandrika ,Rajitha and all those who did not vote for him,be?

He would not do anything to Ranil because ,Rajapakssa can twist Ranil the way he wants.

Dinesh Gunawardena s anger may be because he is hiding something.
You must investigate his actions too.

So take heed ,and act before it is too late .

Rajapakssa and his family and his yes men and women, his goons should not be allowed to raise their heads again.

Absolutely, if this govt. is inactive in this manner, there is a strong possibility that MR will bounce back to he well protected Glory. His aura and the charisma is untouchable by anyone in the present Govt. You are already losing the election, people will either decide on JVP or Sandanaya. Do it fast and in an effective manner.
Show the people all the Money found in Temple trees open the palace for public and line up with all the vehicles, art effects found all over. Also the election propaganda items like wall clocks, etc.
This lukewarm approach especially Ranil’s will take the UNP and the architects of this win to the drain.. Act fast. your time is running out.
