Muslim Migrants: A Blowback & Shame

By Ameer Ali

With hundreds of thousands so far, of Syrians, Libyans, Iraqis, Afghans, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, flocking into Europe in waves, the receiving countries are caught in a painful dilemma. While natural feelings of human compassion and love compel them to accommodate as many migrants as possible and cater to their immediate needs the host nations are also facing on the other hand the prospect of a political backlash from ultra-nationalists and xenophobic extremists. Using rising resource-cost as a possible argument there may be ceilings placed on the volume of intake. Such limitations though understandable will not close the door for illegal human traffickers.

In spite of this dilemma Europe should face the undeniable truth, i.e., these immigrant waves are a blowback for Europe’s via NATO’s collusion with the American super power to invade, bomb and destroy parts of the Middle East and South Asia, all in the name of a never ending war on terrorism and exporting democracy. Terrorist attacks continue to shatter peace in Iraq and Libya while sectarian fights and proxy wars make democracy a distant dream if not an illusion.

This meddling with the Middle East by the Western powers goes right back to the break-up of the Ottoman Empire and to the creation of artificial nation states with scant regard to the religious, ethnic and tribal sensitivities of the people concerned in the region. Kings and Sultans were picked from families of minority groups and planted as head of states to rule over the majority. Mostly through hereditary succession or army coups rulers were changed but always with the approval of their foreign backers. Even elections when they were held as in Egypt for example it were a farce.

syrian-refugees-boatSome of these parvenus who got elected eventually became dictators and tyrants lacking any legitimacy from the majority of citizenry. Pure economic and hegemonic interests made the Middle East a hunting ground for the West and Europe has been in the thick of it. The millions of refugees that are congregating at the border of Europe is the blowback of the Great Game.

Millions of innocent people in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan have lost everything they had and have no choice but to leave their home country. Where will they go?

Europe is their obvious choice because it was with Europe that the world of Islam became familiar with through political, commercial and civilizational contacts from even before the time of the crusades. It was from Europe that colonization of Islamdom began and it was to Europe that the local elite and bourgeoisie went in search of prosperity and recognition after decolonization. They went voluntarily but the ones going now are forced out against their wishes. This is the new burden of Kipling’s ‘White Man’.

While Europe faces the painful dilemma what faces the Muslim world is utter shame. What we are witnessing is hijra in reverse. When the Prophet of Islam migrated from a then enemy territory, Mecca, to a friendly territory, Medina in 622, that event, hijra in Islamic terminology, not only marked the birth of the Islamic calendar but also set an Islamic precedent, which later became a religiously sanctified institution that encouraged the Muslims to migrate to Darul Islam or territory ruled by Muslims if they found life became intolerable in Darul Harb or territory ruled by non-Muslims.

Today’s scene is hijra in reverse, from the land of the Muslims to the land of non-Muslims. The so called infidel has become the ansar or helpers and believers the muhajir or emigrants. What a turn around and what a shame!

The irony is that no Muslim nation among the fifty seven members of the Organization of Islamic Congress has the capacity or willingness to receive them. Even if any of them come forward I wonder whether the refugees would prefer to live in another Muslim country because of the parlous state of affairs in the Muslim countries.

For Europe the challenges are many. Accepting the refugees is one thing but how they are treated is totally another. One thing is certain. That is, a majority of these refugees once they enter Europe are not going to return to their home land even IF things improve there. Already xenophobia and Islamophobia are raising their ugly heads in France, Britain, Germany and other European countries. It is heartening to see that at least the government of Germany is taking a tough stand against these negative elements. One should remember that Germany had the least involvement in European colonization.

With sluggish economic growth and rising unemployment and homelessness the refugee population will certainly add to the economic burden. On the other hand if the refugees are left to live in ghettoes with living conditions at bare minimum they, like the Algerians in France, can become the recruiting ground for radical Islamists. All in all it is a tough choice for Europe.

Australian government after with reluctance has decided to take in 12,000 with preference for Christians and other minorities, which implies that the number of Muslims in that total will be a minimum. Paradoxically, Australia is too happy to join the U.S. to bomb a Muslim country but too unwilling to take in Muslim refugees.

In the midst of all this the pathetic attitude of the affluent Muslim nations such as Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States cannot be pardoned. At least they should be generous enough to open their national wallets to aid financially the settlement programs of European nations. After all, the Saudis, Iranians and the Sheiks from the Gulf are significant contributors to what is happening in Libya, Syria and other parts of the Muslim world. The sectarian violence that is raging in these countries and the extremist groups like the IS and Al-Qaeda to name only a couple, would not have arisen without the overt and covert support from the Sunni-Shia patrons. The rich countries stand condemned by the world community.

one of the best writing of Dr Ameer Ali. I too agree with him that rich Muslim nations should have done more to these Refugees but they have not done yet, It is a Hijra in reverse, that is true. it is similar to Abyssinian Hijra not that of Madina. Ironically, it is similar to that in which King of Abyssinia gave a shelter to Muslim migrant. Today, in the same way people of Non-Muslim nations give shelter to Muslim countries are not ready to help them.
There is another economic factor as well. When I was reading I thought Dr Ameen Ali would touch on that. Germany ageing population needs manpower today. Most of migrants are youth and professionals , for this reason, they need cheap workforce. that is one more aspects of it. yet, it is a welcome move .

      Dr. Ameer Ali,

RE: Muslim Migrants: A Blowback & Shame

Thank you for your well articulated summary. However, there is a gap in the understanding by the average Muslim and as to what they have been brainwashed by the Ulamas, Mullahs and the Wahhabis.

However, there is more to it than you have described, including the fundamental split in Islam, and the followers if Iblis, the Satan, misnamed “Islamic State”.

Now there is competition between ISIS, Iblis State and al Aqeda, another Iblis Ideology.

There is a problem in the mainstream Muslims, not calling the Iblis, Devil among them, Devils, Iblis, Satan.

Unfortunately the Muslims in the Middle East will have to face the Iblis followers for some time to come…

How was LTTE Problem solved? By Destroying them. Will this solution work for ISIS and the other Iblis, Shaitan followers.

Leader of al Qaeda belittles leader of ISIS as not worthy

      Thanks for your write-up.

What does it say about Islam, Sunnis and Shia?

Do they follow Islam? Do they follow God, Allah or Iblis, the Devil, Satan?

Do need to go by the Data.

      The Great Game
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Game

“The Great Game” was the strategic rivalry and conflict between the British Empire and the Russian Empire for supremacy in Central Asia.[1] The classic Great Game period is generally regarded as running approximately from the Russo-Persian Treaty of 1813 to the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907. A less intensive phase followed the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. In the post-Second World War post-colonial period, the term has continued in use to describe the geopolitical machinations of the Great Powers and regional powers as they vie for geopolitical power and influence in the area.[2][3]

The term “The Great Game” is usually attributed to Arthur Conolly (1807–1842), an intelligence officer of the British East India Company’s 6th Bengal Light Cavalry.[4] It was introduced into mainstream consciousness by British novelist Rudyard Kipling in his novel Kim (1901).[5]

Dear Ameer Ali (do you remember me after all these years, remember our visit to Kattankudy?)

I don’t it is quite correct to say that no Muslim nation… is willing or able to take in refugees. I dont know if Lebanon is a member of the Islamic Congress (is that the sane as the Islamic Corporation) but she has taken in almost 2 million refugees. This means that approx. 1 in 3 is a refugee. Staggering thought.

At the other extreme Saudi Arabia has refused to accept any at all. I wonder if even any financial aid is being extended to the refugees by this oil rich nation – to Lebanon for instance to help her meet the enormous demands she is staggering under.

In Europe Germany is showing the way but the US – prime mover in the destabilization of the region – has finally spoken of a humble figure of 10,000 over a year – or is it 1000?

Saudi Arabia and the gulf states have given millions of dollars in aid but will not take refugees. There is a delicate balance in the Middle East between diffrent versions of Islam and they don’t want to be sucked into it.

Germany’s generosity is not without self interest. The German population is aging rapidly. It also has the lowest birth rate in the EU. The working population is not large enough to support the huge number of old people who are now living much longer lives. Merkel and her government hopes the refugees will help to solve this problem. Most of them are young and fit. They have had the guts to make this dangerous journey. They will look for jobs, start businesses, work hard, pay taxes, educate their children. Its the story of the US again. Give me your tired your poor…..I hope they succeed. I hope they remain loyal to Germany.

Whatever Germany’s motives, I am sure these refugees would lead a far more productive life for themselves and their adoptive country and I thank them for their humanity in the face of hostility from some Germans.

      Manuel
50% of Lebanon are Christian. Head of state is a Christian by constitution. A decade ago when the population explosion of Muslims tipped the balance a civil war ensued. Today it is settled. Lebanon is called the Paris in the Middle East. It is this Christian component that gives them a compassionate character.

    Yes.

The authors of all these issues are the Europeans, and they sucked the Americans over the past 50 years. Most of the Victims are Muslims.

This catastrophe was further aggravated by the Wahhabis and their clones following Iblis, Satan, aided and abetted by the Americans and Europeans.

The Great Satan? Who is that. This data supports that.

Rightfully, the Europeans must pay the price to accommodate these unfortunate victims.

Americans seem to be getting away from these crimes, especially, during the past 25 years Scot free.

    What a travesty of Justice.

All this happened under the UN Watch.

Iraq was invaded using the lies of WMD, Weapons of Mass Destruction.

    3. “Today’s scene is hijra in reverse, from the land of the Muslims to the land of non-Muslims. The so called infidel has become the ansar or helpers and believers the muhajir or emigrants. What a turn around and what a shame!”

Now you understand why some of those Wahhabi are called, Iblis, Satans, Devil followers.

According to two narrations in Sahih Bukhari, Muhammad asks Allah to bless the areas of Bilad al-Sham (Syria) and Yemen. When his companions said “Our Najd as well,” he replied: “There will appear earthquakes and afflictions, and from there will come out the side of the head (e.g. horns) of Satan.”[1][2] In a similar narration, Muhammad again asked Allah to bless the areas Medina, Mecca, Sham, and Yemen and, when asked specifically to bless Najd, repeated similar comments about there being earthquakes, trials, tribulations, and the horns of Satan.[3][4]

I would contend however that the richest Muslim countries (Saudi, KUwait, the Emirates, Iraq, for example) are happy to invest hugely in the west rather than developing their countries with a view to absorbing the large numbers of displaced Muslim persons.

It is a waste of time blaming the ‘west’ for historical setbacks, when the Middle East has had the last 50 years to resolve their differences and come to amicable solutions. The problem is that Islam is divided, and feral elements are determined to grab the available riches and establish a Caliphate.

NO wonder decent Muslims are running into the arms of the infidels begging for asylum.

So what went wrong with Muslims and Muslim countries?

There was no proper separation of Mosque and State. They opposed the Secular State The Mullah and their cronies controlled the people or those who ran the state.

Europe kicked this habit with the Age of reason. Then they went on to Colonialism and Western Imperialism. Remember the Opium Wars?

Thank you Dr. Ameer Ali for an article straight from your heart. You have rattled the chains of those brainless idiots who’d pronounce you unIslamic without realising the harm they are doing to themselves. As if to rub salt in the wound, Saudi Arabia has offered Germany the funds to build 200 mosques. It would be laughable if it was not so tragic.
