New IGP Gets Tough, Says ‘Police Will Do Police Work, Not Other’s Work’

Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara last night declared that anyone who have committed a crime will be dealt with, no matter who they are or despite their political affiliations.

Speaking to the media in Colombo on Friday, Jayasundara also announced that the press conference was the ‘first and the last’ and in future only the police spokesman will speak to the media. “Hereafter, senior DIGs will run the show, and all investigations will continue, and you will be informed about progress, whenever and wherever necessary,” he told journalists.

“The police will do police work, and the others can do the other work,” Jayasundara said.Pujith and ranil

He also said that whoever was responsible for any crimes, including that of the murder of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen will be taken into custody. “But everyone wants the investigation rushed, but there is a procedure to follow, we have to gather evidence. Whoever who is responsible will be taken into custody, but it’s a step by step process,” the new IGP noted.

He said that action was not taken against anyone based on a personal vendetta, but instead action will be taken based on the investigations. “Politics won’t matter. They can be anyone, but if they have committed a crime, action will be taken against them,” he added.

He also commended the service of the journalists, saying what they were doing a public service, and no matter what, if they ever have an issue, they can rely on the police to safeguard them. “We won’t let any harm come your way,” Jayasundara assured.

He also added that steps will be taken to further strengthen the Financial Crimes Investigations Division, while also providing all necessary facilities to ensure the division can carry out its inquiries without any hindrance.

Stern words evoking great expectations. “For anyone, it is easy to make pronouncements. Very difficult to act by what one has said”. Kural 1900 years ago.

The same classic said about moving with Kings – in current order of things; Presidents, Prime Ministers and the powers that be – “Be similar to sitting besides the hearth, not too far and not too close”.

What is wrong with this asylum seeker,

Yahapalanaya has lifted all restrictions of the Tiger supporters.

Batalanda PM has even waved the USD Deposit requirement so the LTTers on the dole can now get their duals with a 2500 personal loan.

And even apply for a Mittal house in the soon to be Federal Eelaam and lively happily ever after.

      What more do they want?..

Only in Sri Lanka, can a man shoot himself TWICE in the HEAD.

    http://www.dailynews.lk/?q=2016/04/22/security/79533

This needs publication in Forensic Medicine journals.
This is reported by the police.

Earlier, there have been many reports of alleged criminals – carefully NOT handcuffed – being taken to sites which they reportedly had arms cached – suddenly snatching a weapon and aiming at police, but quickly being shot dead by police.

There have also been reports of criminals jumping out of police vehicles during transport, and dying of injuries sustained due to same.

There have also been reports of men hanging themselves in cells in police stations, though the internal height of cells is only a little over six feet.

Obviously his existence was becoming an inconvenience to some of his agents higher up and he needed to be silenced. Police were tipped off and instructed to do the obvious. I do hope the ballistics show where the two bullets came from!
If he was living so well he was in no hurry to commit suicide!

Let this be the first inquiry that the IGP can initiate – suspicious suicide – the one who made the demand to kill this
witness should be eventually revealed. The Police modus-opeandi
of getting rid of criminals must be placed on record.

Yes, the report actually says “Sagara allegedly shot himself in the head twice.”

I had to read it twice to spot it. Was it a proof reading mistake, or did the police actually claim that to be the case?

        Interesting!

Since I’m not the guy who’s dead!

Rail Mahata openly campaigned in the election that all the crimes committed by leaders will be covered. He refused to sign Rome Treaty. Wijeyadasa covered Avant Garde and refused to resign when Tilak marapana resigned. Champika is still actively doing that. Radhika did it for Udagama commission report. ill he arrest one of them and investigate what they did?

RE: New IGP Gets Tough, Says ‘Police Will Do Police Work, Not Other’s Work’

Yes. That is your job. Do Police work.

    Not Politicians work.

Ask the Politicians to do their own work or get their assistants to do their work.

Excellent pronouncements, but actions speak louder than words, so let’s see how this goes. “Proof of the pudding…”!

I wonder how the new IGP will handle the politicians who try to interfere with his duties, although he says that “Politics won’t matter. They can be anyone, but if they have committed a crime, action will be taken against them”.

    Good Luck to us all!

This new IGP says the current Minister of Law & Order is the best thing next to sliced bread,’ at his first and last Media appearance.

    How cool.

Is he after browney points Or is he sucking the UNP minister’s ass big time?.

Because no police force in the West sucks up to a Minister in such open manner even if they curry favour with him of the side.

So much for the integrity and independence of this Yhapalana Police Chief who was appointed by a committee which is dominated by the UNP leader Batalanda Ranil and his stooges.

Mr I.G.P. brave words spoken in your intention to get your people to do their job: but the pitfalls are many as not all your people are of like mind. Nevertheless, if you set out to put your words into action, true action, then you will have the 100% backing of all law abiding people of our Country.

Let me remind you that our present Govt also came into power promising a lot of things but sadly they have not delivered up to now.
Best of Luck, we are waiting to see whether you will also go the same way OR whether you will deliver.

thank god he is not like his predecessor who was warming his seat to just retire and get his pension. We need people with a passion for their job and love for their country and not just thinking of themselves.Lets hope he cleans up the country of crime just like fonseka cleaned it up of terrorism.

We need fighters who fight to their last breath, not just think of retirement.A good fighter should be allowed to work till he drops dead, not retire and sleep.

The uniform is always a symbol of discipline. Stand by it and live by it. You have an enormous and a uphill task to clean up the image of the police which has been and was brought down due to decadent politics and by those who patronized those criminals. This slide in the image of the department was started during the J.R.Jayawardena government ,with the promotion of the promotion of the police officer who thrashed and humiliated Mrs. Viviene Gunawardena and by Gamini Lokuge who sat on the chair of the OIC of the Piliyandala police and no charge brought against him. There was a promoted inspector to the rank of DIG who also made an enormous amount of money when he was in charge of welfare and buildings.

Fine words from the new IGP, hope these words are not fairy tales to satisfy the politicians and public. There are hundreds of cases before the Police that have been put behind the “Back Burner”due to political influence. The biggest most scandalous is the case of the Thajudeen murder. From day one the ordinary citizen knew that this poor soul was murdered on the instructions of a political powerful family. Now we all know that the poor fall guy the OIC of Narahampita who was instructed by this Well known thug and great friend and the white van boss of Gota, DIG Anura Senanayake was the main white washer and a accomplice to this crime. And how about the Ex Presidents sons the Rugby thugs, Rapists and money lauderers , bogus lawyers and fellows who were involved with the murder of Thajudeen? there is plenty of evidence thru ccd Tapes to show their role. All blanked out till now. Hope THe New IGP bringsthese criminals to justice.

    IGP Pujith Jayasundere,

Congratulations. I hope you will fulfill what you promise. I am waiting to see some fire works during the first month of your tenure.

Please crack down on the corruption and tricks of the Traffic policemen. Yesterday, someone known gave a bribe of Rs.!000/=, on a courteous demand! Further, they stand just behind the first sign board posting speed limits in the approach to a town on the A9 after Vavuniya and fine motorists who have not had the time to reduce speed! There is no consideration for the breaking distance required. It is obviously a trick to collect fines/bribes. Further, innovate a better way for offenders to pay their traffic fines without confiscating their driving licenses and forcing them to run around in search of post offices to pay their fine. This amounts harassment and black mail. Many drivers pay bribes to escape this ordeal. It is also tantamount to depriving the government of legitimate revenue.

      IGP Pujith Jayasundara

You would do well to take on board what Dr Narendran has written. An easy can-do that will win us all over.

Then, set deadlines for your staff to clear out those pending files. There are literally thousands of ‘uncleared’ cases but in most cases police know the culprit and the culprit knows that the police are aware but afraid. In most cases there will be no need even for the traditional use the hot kokis aach’chuwa. (That OIC Perera at Wattala got good results in the old days using that method.)

Please IGP, don’t let us down.

Aathai padukira Paadukkai Kutthiyan Paalukkaluthanaam. (when the mom was struggling with all her troubles, the spoiled brat is still crying for breast milk)

Here goes the Doctor Spin’s worry of the Century! What a beautiful “Choodanai” (framing) of just a speeding case. Without knowing who the hell the school girl Vidya is, the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th…. accused are in the prison until the police catches one who can stand up in court cross examination with the story police is teaching them forcefully. He has not written a sentence of these Yahapalanaya governments’ police brutality.

Watch what is asking; don’t collect the violation money and relax the grip on law obeying taxpayers. Just don’t allow the other lawbreakers the police to compete with the Karuvakaadu status, Doctor Spin’s class lawbreakers. That is all what he wants. I ask this idiot, will he pay the bribe if the police crook stands a quarter mile away from the speed limit sign?

This is the real classic nature of the EPDP. Find a way to provide release and bring impunity to law breakers. How can the law breaking police try to share the total collection benefit with the law breaking Doctor Spins.

Come on IGP. Aren’t you selected by CC council, the rogue-sts in the rogues. Do this as your first step of impunity to lawbreakers.

Your first Duty is to Government’s spin doctors. Please be little bit bending to accommodate our splendid grandeurs like Doctor Spin, Champika Ranaveera….

Please don’t make our Doctor Spin tied on these traffic tickets. He has better job of pushing the Chemical houses to Northern widowed refugees. He just solved the Northern water problem by bringing Saudi Arabia’s desalination plants. He claims he has found so many proofs why those widows should accept those houses, but he not ready to believe any of the provee he is offering and based on them give a written guarantee for the people who are going to occupy the roasting, torture chambers.

(Sorry, I made a mistake, he solved the housing problem by bringing desalination plants from Saudi Arabia.)

Anyway who is man the Doctor Spin? Selfishness is different, some men’s talks are always in a different plane. Hard to guess what an intricate doggers all these Doctor Spins are.

Dr. Narendran: Good proposal. There is a way. Computerize all the vehicle registered plates with the owners details, such as the driving license, permanent address, citizenship number etc. and connect that to the Police. All the Police vehicles must be installed with computers that would give the details no sooner the plate number is checked in. The traffic Police must also be provided with such vehicles and no sooner the license plate is logged in, the Police officer must immediately issue a ticket with all the details of the offense and the fine imposed. That ticket must include a provision to pay it to a Bank, Post Office or any other financial institution within a stipulated time period or failing to do so will be prosecuted. Once ticketed, it must also be recorded in the computer system, so that all other officers too could check the details of the fine and the offense. If this imposition is not cleared withing the stipulated period, the license plate and the registration must not be RENEWED. That information too must be fed into the computer system and it would be available to any Police Officer who does the checking of the vehicles. If that is done, there is no need to “take over” the driving license. The other benefit of this computerizing is: once an officer checks the vehicle license number through the system, it gets then there recorded and the officer has to “account” as to why he did the checking and he is “answerable” to what action he has taken on that inspection.

Mr. Jayasundara, prove me wrong and the people of this country will salute you. It takes a lot from you to clear the name of Sri Lanka Police, which is considered to be very impartial, corrupt, and dishonest.

Treat the minorities also as citizens of this country who have equal rights, as I see most of the comments from minority community quite disparaging about the police department.

    All the best.
