NMSJ’s Convener and likely common candidate at the upcoming presidential elections, Venerable Maduluwawe Sobhitha thera writing to all political parties, has invited them to contribute to the movement’s goals by being active partners in their movement and thereby realising the aspirations of the people.

As a first step towards initiating collaboration with other political parties for their movement, the NMSJ has requested them to inform each party’s official position on the programme that has been put forward by them to which includes:

– Immediate abolishment of the Executive Presidency / transfer its powers to the Parliament and appoint an MP who commands the confidence of the parliament as the Prime Minister

– Re-implementation of the 17th amendment with necessary changes

– Amend the election system so that the people’s mandate is proportionately represented in the legislature

– Introduction of a detailed road map to achieve the above goals within six months, to which includes:

The draft constitutional amendment that would be released along with the manifesto of the common candidate

The amendment shall take effect on the expiry of six months counted from the date of the Presidential election. The exact date on which the amendment becomes effective shall be stated in the amendment

The Bill for the amendment of the Constitution shall be placed before Parliament within a month since the Presidential election and the exact date on which it would be so presented shall be stated in the election manifesto

The post of President is abolished upon the amendment taking effect. The new (nominal) President shall be elected by Parliament

Fielding a common candidate at the next Presidential election and his/her victory to be ensure by a collaborative effort

Sobhitha thera has furthermore noted in the letter that their programme reflects the broader aspirations of the people and will help Sri Lanka rise above the present unfortunate plight it is in,while helping the country establish an order that ensure social justice, democracy, good governance and equal rights to all citizens irrespective of their ethnicity, religion or caste.

When Sobitha becomes the President at the next Election ( which will be held most probably before the Sinhala Tamil NY)) he moves into the Presidential Palace and demolish himself.

But he will have to wait till the “Nonagathe” ( bad time ) is over and the dawn of the “bath time” and the “job commencement” time for the New Year..

Bath time is specially important when he has to move into the Presidential Palace.

Then he proceeds to Kotte to pick an MP who can get the maximum number of votes from the fellow MPs.

Mervyn , Karu , Ravi , Mangala , Prema, Ranil, Abrahan Anura all have a chance.

Pity Sambadan took a retirement package. from the Party.

Then this MP turned PM fulfils the aspirations of the inhabitants to get social justice, democracy, good governance, and equal rights to all inhabitants.

But no mention of bread or jobs for our Dalits in all Ethnic categories.

May be they are not as important as democracy and social justice for you know who….

Wonder whether Welimuna or the BASL Boss drew this Action Plan of the Political Platform of the 21st Century Srilanka.

Mangala has vanished with his dirty LeN from the seen into obscurity when Sajith was appointed deputy leader of the UNP.

Ven Sobitha’s dream to become the common candidate of all the opposition has vanished as well for Ranil is now the common candidate of the UNP and Anura is the common candidate of the JVP.

As I mentioned before, ven Sobitha could still be the common candidate of Western Embasies, NGOs, evangelists and all that what not. Good Luck!

implementation of 17 th amendment is a prerequisite before the presidential election (LLRC recommendation as per the UN resolution ), if not it will be a 100 X repetition of UVA election campaign.

Dear Brother, people like you have to add more in order folks to wake up.

Today, for no reasons, many are silent. No matter Rajapakshes rape their lovely ones on day light, they would go on voting for them. My aged father is very worried not about his health, but about the future of the country if Rajapakshes would stay in power. He asks where MR would guide the nation. Today, if you google the name of the country – what you got to retrieve would be only about brutalities of Rajas. We the sinahalayas could represent us better if the folks voted for the educated, cultured ethics respected personalities.

No cross-overs for any elected Parliamentarian, except Independent
Candidates. If an MP resigns from the Party, immediate by-election is
a must in the relevant constituency.

MR just “bought” elected M.PP to make his undemocratic 2/3rd majority.

    He is alone in this.

    No one really agrees.

Anyway even if he wins he will not have 2/3 to abolish it. So why bother.

People have bigger problems than executive presidency.
