Journalist Maduka Thaksala Fernando, attached to the Lake House New media department, has been attacked by trade union members of the current government, appealed to the administration of the institution to hold an impartial inquiry into the matter.
According to the letter written by the victim to the administration of the company, Chairman of the SLPP trade union (Pragathashili Sevaka Sangamaya), Chandana Bandara, Gayan Bandara, Chameera Elladeniya, Nuwan Kodikara and Hemantha Depp entered the Resa newspaper editorial and taken him outside and assaulted him and threatened him not to return to Lake House premises.
“They took me out of the Resa editorial office by force and it is recorded in the Company CCTV how I was taken out. Then they took me to a place that was not covered by CCTV and assaulted and threatened me never to come to the premises again,” his letter to the administration says.
Maduka who is a heart patient has been badly affected by this incident.
The victim had handed over his resignation with one month’s notice a fews weeks ago and is required to report to work till the 31st of December, 2019 as per his employment contractual obligations.
According to him a team of about 15 people has first gone to the new media department where his office is stationed. However, once they have got to know that Maduka had gone to the Resa editorial they have gone there before carrying him out to assault him.
